Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

the bbc said last week that there would be a Christmas toy shortage due to China shutting down factories

I missed that! We have just ordered a few things to squirrel away.

Also ordering next size shoes and coats. We can do hand me downs for the most part but they go through shoes and coats like something else.
Our eldest DS is 15 and I dread a growth spurt. 😂

Thanks to a PP mentioning respirator masks.
I didn't think to get one before but as we are renovating at the moment and in need of one anyway I've bought a P3 respirator. I don't know if this is actually any use against the virus? There is a global shortage and got the last pack of filters in my area. We do literally just need them for renovation ...

Re nappies. My dd has decided she wants to go dry at night and has only had one accident so far. I still bought her pull ups as normal as I figured if she gets ill she might relapse to bed wetting. As my kids grow out of PJs etc they all get passed o to my nearest big county hospital. So it's no loss if she doesn't use them. Someone will

3rd patient has died at North Manchester General Hospital, a man in his sixties with “significant underlying health conditions”.

@rhij86 That’s interesting. I am dreading to send dd morrow to school. This taking chances and sending younger kids to school thing is horrible for parents amidst covid fears. I feel kind of guilty as it feels like I’m not doing enough to protect dd who trusts me with all her heart but I have to send her just because the school & government says so.

Staff member in a local school in Hackney has tested positive for the virus.

Ach but @Legoandloldolls there is research that has come out of China that explains the nature of this virus and how false negatives are possible- it lies low in the respiratory tract so early swans are negative, other findings also show this virus has some characteristics of HIV. In the way the virus binds to receptors.

@MoonlightMistletoe @BanKittenHeels That’s sad isn’t it.. what underlying conditions .. even if there is something irrelevant like chronic eczema it can be classed as underlying condition.. why wouldn’t they say any details .. there is no transparency in anything here in the U.K. .. it’s getting scary ..

Thank you to the person who said to look in office suppliers for hand sanitiser. I’ve been struggling to get any and due to being in a high risk group needed some. After searching for a while I now have some ordered to be delivered Tuesday.

Oh that’s brilliant. I’m so pleased for you. This is what I love about this site and in particular the preppers. Being able to help each other.

@Posharmchairs try running warm water over the back of the ice cube tray. It should melt the edge enough to slide out, without melting the whole lot. I have some eggs to try freezing. Was going to see how 2 at a time whisked and then poured into a silicone muffin tray works.

@Puppycorn they all seem to say underlying health issues however it's making me doubt their transparency because they feel the need to repeat it so often.

It's sad my heart dropped, I am an over sensitive person but even not knowing them personally still makes me upset knowing how terrified they must have been.

I have a underlying condition - controlled and medicated high blood pressure so that does put me at high risk. I'm mid forties with 4 kids, youngest is five. So I'm officially middle aged woman with underlying health conditions. I feel no comfort in the underlying health conditions angle

For people using eggs -Saw there are liquid long life egg whites, pasteurised egg yolks, powdered egg yolks etc online. Won’t they taste the same? (Sorry I have no idea - I don’t eat eggs)

I read on the last thread that someone was looking at buying an oxygen concentrator.

Has anyone looked at these or other medical preps beyond first aid kits etc?

It's quite frightening that we may have no medical care for CV or other conditions at all. I am concerned about my children breaking a bone or getting appendictis and there being no help available especially for anything that could normally be corrected via surgery. It seems all the anesthetists would likely be required for CV patients and theatres become ITUs if we follow Italy.

I don't know how to prep for this.

We caved and bought a second freezer so FINAL Tesco shop coming tomorrow as fully expecting life to change at some point this coming week. Also just bought more sanitary products....thanks to those who mentioned it. I had a decent stock but just bought a few more... and no not enough to cause an issue to others. I have got some soap on the order which now says I can't change the quantity. I hope we get it as we are running low.

Italy sounds terrifying....all those people that left before the lockdown had better hope they're not infected.... and so had anyone they come into contact with.

Sad news about the UK's third death :( yes they like to be sketchy about what exactly was wrong with them

Nervous for the week ahead

@Legoandloldolls yes, same with me. I am in mid thirties and have diabetes - I understand the risk is higher but does it qualify for a middle aged woman with underlying conditions.. I feel no comfort either. This is insane I just want my normal days back 😞

Re the idea a few threads back about having a Christmas dinner if the UK does a lockdown. I'm thinking that would be a really good idea. I love Christmas. I even bought two little Turkey crowns at Christmas as I didnt want one ginormous bird to cook. I have one in the freezer! Got bread sause, a pudding, stuffing, I think cranberry sause too. I'm sure it all goes out of date before December. I might meal play for that one day. Let's hope I can still buy streaky bacon and mini sausages. Turkey lasts for two weeks right?!

@YoursTunbridgeWells I haven’t even thought of oxygen concentrator or to measure saturation for that matter. The thought of it is scary and I think I am still in denial for few things happening this way.

@Puppycorn @Legoandloldolls also have underlying health problems, mid/late 20s however diagnosed with Lupus. I am more worried for my Nan especially with two family members flying in and out of the country one has just gone to Italy because her mother is sadly dying. Everything's a mess.

I have a blood pressure monitor at home because I needed it in pregnancy. I was debating getting a blood O2 monitor but I think its outside of my comfort zone. We might buy a generator later this year as we do have power cuts often. We are rural so never a priority to reconnect

Speaking of monitors, does anyone have a fit bit ? I have one with a heart monitor on, not sure if they are accurate but could come in handy.
