Thread 12!

I can't seem to carry over the clicky links in the OP of the last thread. Can anyone else?

If anyone is annoying you about the whole flu thing (when it's not even bloody flu)

news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-italian-doctor-says-fighting-covid-19-outbreak-is-like-war-11954229

I'll be popping this on lots of FB threads over the coming days I'm sure

Orangecake123 · 10/03/2020 11:18

I'm British but study in Prague .With 40 cases- all schools and universities are closed from tomorrow. All lectures cancelled today.

rhij86 · 10/03/2020 11:20

@orangecake123 hope you are keeping well. What is the general atmosphere there? Sounds like it is being taken seriously, which is good.

Readyme · 10/03/2020 11:20

@PurpleCalm can you get in contact with them? I would ask if they wanted soap, long life milk, a loaf of bread in freezer, a bag of pasta and rice in cupboards alongside some butter, cheese and long life meat for the fridge.
If they say no I would leave them too it.

itsnotjustflu · 10/03/2020 11:20

....and to add it makes really frightening reading BUT I'm glad I finally have a sensible article full of reality that I can share with the narrow minded folks of the UK

Neome · 10/03/2020 11:23

If this is the start of a year of homeschooling so be it.

From the Guardian just now:
10:56
The start of the UK peak of the coronavirus epidemic is expected within the next fortnight, England’s deputy chief medical officer has said.

Dr Jenny Harries defended the Government’s decision to delay closing schools and the introduction of other stringent tactics, saying experts are assessing new cases on an hourly basis to achieve a “balanced response”.

I can’t believe the start of the peak is officially so close now and Boris is just washing his hands of all concern about those most likely to die.

I have looked at some epidemiological studies about the balance between the resilience of society to bounce back and the risk to individuals. For example this. I’m not convinced it’s a blueprint for how to get through this pandemic and wasn’t intended to be. It does look like the kind of thinking going on though. I may well be mistaken of course.

Hooray for Rory Stewart being willing to object publicly.

inmylifeIlovedthemall · 10/03/2020 11:29

Regular poster on this thread, but namechanged.

My solution to the concerns about coats etc indoors is that mine are all being stripped off and left in the car.

I am then venting the car by opening all the doors for a few minutes before using it.

Not ideal I know, but does reduce my worries about what I am bringing into the house.

Mrsemcgregor · 10/03/2020 11:29

Does anyone know if my DS’ secondary school place for September would still be there for him if I deregistered him from Yr6?

PurpleCalm · 10/03/2020 11:42

Thanks for the replies.

No idea about the 2nd cruise. We spoke last week and they asked if the govt. had brought in any travel restrictions. I can text them and ask if they want any extra supplies.

I feel bad for considering not seeing them for the 10 days they're home but i'm sure they'll understand. We are the only family they have locally though!

itsnotjustflu · 10/03/2020 11:46

@Mrsemcgregor I'd ring the local authority. They are usually really helpful. My son is in an under subscribed school and I just want to apply to HS but DH wants to just risk the fine as he think they won't fine us...yeah right.

ChilliMayo · 10/03/2020 11:46

If you have a traditional hallway, you could create a dirty zone for coats and shoes, outdoor clothing by using a telescopic curtain rod and a shower curtain, with alcohol gel inside 'the zone'. Parcels could also be left here. The important thing is to have a visible 'prompt'to make everyone stop, think, do the necessary.

Mrsemcgregor · 10/03/2020 11:53

Thank you itsnotjustflu I will give them a call. We’re not quite there yet but it’s good to know the options.

itsnotjustflu · 10/03/2020 11:57

Yes we're not far off. We'd said 1,000 cases or someone infected in our town

Orangecake123 · 10/03/2020 12:09

@rhij86

I feel like they've been way ahead of the UK in general because we're so close to Germany. With prepping too,the shelves started being cleared out on the 28th of feb- before we even had confirmed cases.

Does anyone know where I would stand taking my foundation age child out of school until the Easter Holidays if she recently turned five and therefore isn’t officially of compulsory school age until after Easter? Husband could easily do his job from home but his boss is one of the it’s just the flu brigade.

Posharmchairs · 10/03/2020 12:30

@84TinsOfBeans mine is a callow machine. Sits on top of our fridge when not in use. Has 5 trays and does the job in a two bed terrace for family of 3.

itsnotjustflu · 10/03/2020 12:33

@16943389ao We took our son out of school for two weeks when he was in reception (we went to the USA). He didn't legally have to be at school so they didn't fine us. We took him to Florida and they knew that. But if she is 5 now then surely she's of compulsory school age?

NatoPMT · 10/03/2020 12:33

Boris washing his hands of everything... singing happy fucking birthday as he does it - raaaaage

The dettol question... I posted yesterday that co-op bathroom and toilet wipes are higher concentration at 0.5 than dettol wipes at 0.4

Ok - my friend.... just saw his gf walking the dog. He’s at home with her now not at his parents. She’s not self isolating but told her she needs to and now. Just as I said it, she stroked my damn dog!!! Just wiped dog down with said co-op wipes.

The clinic he went to was private she said, And he paid £550 and now has been told he wasn’t tested for Covid19. I’m so confused!!!

She called the private clinic this morning and was told they weren’t allowed to test for Covid19 so what he paid for, I have no idea!! Why didn’t they send him to the right place? She hasn’t spoken to 111, was in a queue on the phone for 57 mins and gave up. He now has an appointment at the GP surgery this aft, but hasn’t told them what it’s for directly as they will be told to call 111. They shouldn’t go to the GP but she’s saying she’s desperate because she can’t get him seen any other way

What a MESS

Deregging in year 6 shouldn’t impact secondary place but I agree to call local authority @Mrsemcgregor

@Neome - argh a “balanced” response. I’d how many people can we lose to save the economy

itsnotjustflu · 10/03/2020 12:33

sorry not sure why I said 'she' as you said child

pemberlyshades · 10/03/2020 12:33

I'm really hoping that after today's sage meeting and tomorrow's cobra meeting Bojo and co put some clear plans into action. I don't know how much "hand washing and hope" I can cope with!

Still got my bastarding dry cough. I feel like it's settled in my chest and my chest hurts too now.

rhij86 · 10/03/2020 12:38

@NatoPMT what an absolute shower of shit!! What is your friend going to do when he gets to the GP? is he going to stay outside or go in? He really shouldn't be going but I also understand the desperation for him to actually be seen and taken seriously.

What did his gf say when you told her to self isolate? where is the baby?

NatoPMT · 10/03/2020 12:39

@pemberlyshades - I hope you’re feeling better soon

I forgot to say, my MIL had her appointment yesterday and she needs 2 heart valves replacing. She has to wait for a hospital app then the operation date which delays things, I’d rather she didn’t have it now if it’s not urgent. I’m actually wondering if I should have a Covid19 party at my friends house to get it over with in case I need to look after her, but I’m actually scared if going through the illness seeing how ill my friend is.

And today he can’t breath properly, he can only half fill his lungs 😫

rhij86 · 10/03/2020 12:41

@NatoPMT oh god he needs to be seen by someone, and taken seriously! (I know you know this). I hope your MIL is ok and not considered urgent Flowers

NatoPMT · 10/03/2020 12:45

@rhij86 - innit!

The baby was with her on the walk, he has been to her parents (where her grandmother was visiting and going through chemotherapy, plus stayed with his own parents - both late 70s) plus if I told you where he was working while I’ll, you’d all have an aneurysm

None of them showing symptoms so fingers crossed

She’s tried to isolate him in the living room but he’s been holding the baby

Honestly, I just can’t get my head round how reckless he’s been. Both of them really. Even if it’s flu, he shouldn’t be near the baby 😫

Covid19 might be less dangerous for the baby, I don’t know

I told her to call the gps and tell them. Many if the gps in that surgery are past retirement but still working too. There’s young ones too so at least the surgery can make a decision (which will be official protocol)

When I told her to self isolate she nodded but not with conviction

I stood 10ft away from her but my dog loves her and was all over her

itsnotjustflu · 10/03/2020 12:45

@NatoPMT scary on both counts. sorry to hear that. Does he have covid 19? I thought you'd said he hadn't....sounds awful
