The government has updated its guidance for travellers who have returned to the UK from Italy in the last 14 days.

This advice applies to the whole of Italy and not exclusively to the northern regions.

For full details, see below 🔽 t.co/i3lM7QX4lb

Another tip: make a note of the coordinates of your spawn point incase you die or get lost.

I was just about suggest this. My dad once spent days trying to find her house after getting lost 😂

@JustMeAndMyTins which place. London? Dh had to go to London today and freaked out so much (thankfully he had a non peak hour meeting). He wore so much of handgel etc. Came home , entered via back door which I opened for him, removed shoes jacket hat bag, then did a hand wash there sprayed the shoes, jacket hat bag, removed everything worn and put straight into the washing machine except for the boxers, ran to the shower upstairs and soaked the boxers in dettol and soap water in a bucket, then took shower. I don’t think it’s practical if he is going to do this everyday. 😫

BlackeyedSusan · 05/03/2020 18:34

At least he is thorough.

magicrainbowbeans · 05/03/2020 18:41

I am rather late in doing it but planning weekend activity to make sure my DD who just turned 6 can cope if I'm incapacitated. Apologies if this has been covered before but thought it could be useful to share ideas and maybe collect some.

-treat it as a game, what would you do if...
-with treats for reward, maybe skittles (my DD responds to food)

  1. What would you do if mummy was poorly and you needed to get help so
*how to get out of the house *once outside, road safety *once outside, where to go (neighbours) *calling 999 and what to say, and opening the door
  1. What would you do if mummy was poorly and you had to get your own food and drink?
*step ladder for kitchen *how to get glass and water *how to get food like Cereal, bread, snacks

Anything else vitally important? - I don't want to overload her, so not aiming to show her how to use the washing machine or anything yet. Just really basic stuff.

Legoandloldolls · 05/03/2020 18:47

PuppyCorn - I wish my sons was as worried. I dont think the 12 yo has showered in weeks. Poor Dh.

Also sorry about your dd book day. Why cant Elsa be Indian with white hair? Its white from.the ice magic, not her Gene's ( ok so its Nordic area but it could be ANYWHERE). I saw a advert for skin tone coloured plasters to other day and that really hit home how things are lagging in certain areas.older Indian ladies with long white hair always look stunning. Such a lovely hair colour on a darker complexion. She would rock the Elsa look

Legoandloldolls · 05/03/2020 18:52

With younger kids dont have one cereal container full with cereal. Bitter experience. They drop them easily as its heavy and have 2kg at each sitting!

Have a few containers half full

NatoPMT · 05/03/2020 18:56

@JustMeAndMyTins - how are you feeling? It’s going to be unnerving knowing you’ve had Confirmed possible contact with such a nasty little critter as covid19

Hope you’re ok

What’s the next steps for your office? Are you working from home / awaiting information? I assume a clean up and self isolation for the colleague?

I really hope children being less impacted shows itself at Alder Hey. My friend sits with a teenager with cystic fibrosis and I have been thinking about her. She gets horrible anxiety knowing she’s so life limited - hurts to think about what she must think about

Puppy that’s some skilled operation!

NatoPMT · 05/03/2020 18:59

@magicrainbowbeans - thanks for the ideas. I will start following this up too. Mine is 8 so quite capable time to start being proactive with teaching her independence. Mine could do all that so I’ll do some dry runs with her preparing food / calling for help etc

magicrainbowbeans · 05/03/2020 19:00

lego thank you. My kitchen is so small (think, standing space for 1 adult) is hard to put things where DD could reach if she needed to, including Cereal usually on top of the fridge. I'm reconsidering the storage arrangements.

BloomedAgain · 05/03/2020 19:01

@magicrainbowbeans I wonder if you could put together a few things nearer ground level for her in a large cardboard box and make it a game? E.g. juices, fruig, bottled water, non refrigerated snacks, like a 'picnic box'?

NatoPMT · 05/03/2020 19:03

Oh I forgot, I have a friend in San Francisco who sent me the email inc the zinc lozenges advice, she knows the person, said it’s a parent from her local school. I’m gonna fan gurl 😂😂

Bat flu famous!!

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 05/03/2020 19:04

@magicrainbowbeans and others with young DC - our local Aldi has packs of children’s individual fruit smoothie cartons that don’t require refrigeration until open.

NatoPMT · 05/03/2020 19:04

Sultanas would be good for the picnic box!

fnej01 · 05/03/2020 19:11

Been following/lurking for a while, and prepping some stuff. My big worry is if we shut the schools, how do we keep the nhs staffed? We are both nhs workers and without school one of us needs to be off work? Most of our colleagues are in a similar position including docs, so if schools close NHS will have major staffing problem!?!

Do we know how other countries are managing this?

FuckThisWind · 05/03/2020 19:11

So I came home from work today, first responder outside my neighbours house. Followed by Ambulance. 2 people in each vehicle. They went in then came straight back out. Heard sirens. Fire appliance turned up with blue lights. 2 firefighters went inside dressed in full gear with little black briefcase things. I had to leave for school run then. No doubt it was something like suspected carbon monoxide poisoning, but my god did it all give me the Willie's. We have 10 cases here. Hospital with Mum to see consultant tomorrow. 2 more scans next week. What a fucking time to get cancer!

Sorry if this is feeding into the 'all preppers are hysterical' line from earlier unwanted visitor to the thread, but I have never seen that before. I feel I'm going through the Adjustment Reaction that someone mentioned this morning. But twofold. Once with Mums cancer diagnosis. And again with this virus unfolding. (And Boris wanting it all out of the way quickly in case it spoils his greater plans!)

JustMeAndMyTins · 05/03/2020 19:14

Thanks, @NatoPMT. I’m ok. It was always coming. I have no idea who the colleague is right now but the confirmed case met with them in our office so there’s an extra element to it there. We don’t have many details other than that we have to work from home for the foreseeable future and the office is being is deep cleaned. It’s probably going to reopen on Monday unless we get a confirmed case or the numbers drastically increase.

MinesaPinotPlease · 05/03/2020 19:15

For those with young children - how about buying the small multi pack variety cereal packs. The ones we only ever got in hotels as kids :)

They would be easy to pour into a bowl and there would not be waste.

I would also do some fire awareness training with young ones. There have been several cases where young children have started fires by accident (playing with matches) and have then hidden in their rooms out of fear of being told off and with tragic consequences.
Sorry to mention it - but maybe if you are working on “what to do” scenarios this one is important too.

This is why schools are being kept open

Sugarmirror · 05/03/2020 19:23

@Puppycorn that’s ridiculous

MakeLemonade · 05/03/2020 19:24

What to do with the children of healthcare workers can’t be an issue that’s unique to the UK, other countries that are shutting schools must have a plan or at least thought it through?

FuckThisWind · 05/03/2020 19:26

@MinesaPinotPlease totally agree with fire training. For one, the house next door to us blew up in flames last year. This left 8 year old DD with anxiety. And also my cousin when he was about 12 started a fire with a candle. Threw it under his bed thinking he would get told off and burned the house down. Not scaremongering. Just sensible prepping and being precautionary.

MoonlightMistletoe · 05/03/2020 19:27

Perhaps that's why they have mentioned bringing back retired health care workers and also students who haven't fully qualified yet?

NatoPMT · 05/03/2020 19:27

I think we need to employ tumbleweed protocols for ill manners

MoonlightMistletoe · 05/03/2020 19:29

@NatoPMT such a small world we live in and the pros of the Internet!
