Failed abortion at 10 weeks. Very difficult to access abortion post 10 weeks

Has anybody else experienced a failed medical abortion (the one which you take pills for)?
Mine failed after rather painful contractions and passing of a big clot. I was still feeling very unwell (severe pregnancy sickness and high blood pressure: my reasons for not being able to continue with the pregnancy to begin with) after the pills, went back to the clinic who confirmed I was still pregnant.
Places readily offer the pills 10 weeks and under but after that date is has been so HARD to get help with a surgical abortion. Places wait weeks to get back to you just to say they don't receive funding for surgical abortion (which is required after 10 weeks) or their nearest clinic is in Bolton... I'm from London.
Something very weird is going on here and I am so unwell.... GP's can't do anything as its all dealt with by outside organisations now. I'm now 13 weeks 5 days and, as I say, desperately ill being told my blood pressure is so high I have to go to A&E and living off prochlorperazine to stop the sickness and NOBODY is helping me. I'm doing all of this with a bouncy, autistic 4 year old and I don't know what to do 😪
Anybody else experienced this? Any advice?

Thanks, Mums ❤

so the clinic confirmed you weee pregnant but didn’t offer anything further?

BaselineDrop · 03/07/2024 07:45

How strange. You’ve contacted BPAS, NUPAS and Marie Stopes?

Bemusedandconfusedagain · 03/07/2024 07:46

Has the clinic confirmed that there is still a heartbeat? Because if not the EPU would be able to help you arrange surgical management. If they've not scanned you the walk in EPU at St Thomas's is excellent. I think it would be worth a visit to them regardless as they should be able to signpost you if nothing else.

And I said I needed to think about what to do next as I was in shock. I called them after a week to which they said it would need to be surgical as I was over ten weeks and they (NUPAS) didn't offer that.

NuPAS don't help past 10 weeks

MSI and BAPAS haven't got back to me

So what did BPAS say?

ChefsKisser · 03/07/2024 07:53

That’s very strange I used to work in london (not long ago) and there was a central booking number with the aim to complete terminations within a couple of weeks even for surgical. Try this number 0345 300 8090 the recent ‘reviews’ seem to say it’s quick and MSI is well known. I’d be flabbergasted if at that gestation they said there’s nothing they can do.

LadyWhistled0wn · 03/07/2024 07:53

It's not new, I had a surgical abortion many years ago and had to travel 200 miles away.
Could you get the train? Sorry they're being so useless. You'd think London would have loads of clinics.

Thanks, but I've been waiting on BPAS for more than a week now 😔

You may need to go private if none of the above are helping.

I had a surgical termination of a multiple pregnancy just after 10 weeks several years ago and there were multiple clinics in London that offered it. There are absolutely clinics that do terminations in London much later than this. What exactly are you being told?

I beg your pardon?! I needed the go ahead from my GP regarding surgical procedures due to my chronic illnesses and new ones from being pregnant. To which NUPAS said, get back to us. Which I DID. To which they said they cannot help.
.again, how DARE you. I will be reporting this.
Unacceptable behaviour for munsnet
