Abortion tablets

I recently found out I was pregnant after splitting with my partner and have decided to have an abortion.
Due to covid, I've had the tablets posted out to me..

I had the first tablet today and will be taken the next 6 tomorrow but I've read in the booklet that you can either put them up your vagina or put them in your mouth however the mouth option can cause more sickness / diarrhoea..

Just wondering if anyone did the mouth option and how they felt and how bad the side effects were etc..

Hiya, I haven't done the mouth option but I have done the vagina and it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I went to the clinic a couple of months ago for the first one and the nurse said the 6 can make you feel sick so I didn't want to risk throwing them back up. Hopefully someone who has taken them orally will be along soon. Hope you're okay.

gingerbeerandlemonade · 28/04/2020 06:49

Should clarify first one meant first pill.

QuirkyUsernameHere · 28/04/2020 09:26

Thank you!

I think I'm just nervous about actually putting the tablets up there 🥴🙈😂

Ah well.. needs must!

@gingerbeerandlemonade
Sorry.. did you have all 6 put up at the same time or did you have them done at different times?

sorry if TMI but the booklet I got says use four and then do the other two 3-4 hours later. I've done the first four but have since started bleeding and don't really feel comfortable putting the other two up.

I've emailed the nurse I spoke to and asked her but.. just wondered how it worked with you x

How are you doing OP? Did you get an answer from the clinic?
I’ve collected the bag of medication today. Planning on taking it later this week....
I’m terrified and really hope I can go through with it.

Hugs x

QuirkyUsernameHere · 28/04/2020 16:36

@sunandrose I did thank you!
I ended up ringing that aftercare line and she got a nurse to call me back.

She advised with the last lot, of you are bleeding to put them in your mouth as they may come out with the bleeding.

They also send out codiene to help with the pain but when I've taken it twice before (either codiene or cocodamol, can't remember which one) I had a bit of a funny turn so was quite apprehensive about taking it but after about 2 hours of taking the 4 tablets, I had to take it as the pain was quite bad and I had been sick.

But since I took the codiene it's been okay, very little to no pain. I've just swallowed the last two so I'm presuming there will be another spike it stuff happening and some pain etc.

I hope you're okay and you're sure that you want to do this.
Luckily it was a no brainer for me.. I was quite worried about doing the 4 tablets up instead of orally.. but I manned up.

If you need anything, drop me a message ❤️

How are you both getting on?

I took the second lot of pills (vaginally) yesterday afternoon. I had a lot of cramps, clots and bleeding last night. It seems to have calmed down to more like a heavy period this morning (in terms of pain and bleeding). I’m hoping the worst is over

Look after yourselves x

QuirkyUsernameHere · 29/04/2020 07:50

@TingTastic I've just woken up to no pain.

Just before I went to bed I started feeling the cramps again so took two more codiene.

It's just so annoying when you go for a wee because you spend 10 minutes afterwards just wiping and wiping 😂🙈

If I worked everything out correctly, I was only about 5-6 weeks so I think that's why it wasn't that bad

Hope you're all okay ❤️

Also just want to add.. although the booklets and stuff you get say that if you take the tablets orally you're more likely to be sick / have an upset stomach..
After I did the last two orally, I was fine.. no sickness and no diahorrea.. maybe it is just if you take them all orally?

OP posts:
TingTastic · 29/04/2020 08:04

Completely agree with the wee thing. Really glad you’ve woken up to no pain, it’s a big relief isn’t it

I was 9 weeks because it took over 3 weeks from having first call to getting the tablets!! And that was with me taking the first available appointment each time (it took nearly a week for tablets to come in post)

I seem to have been quite lucky though, very little pain this morning too and morning sickness has gone. Hopefully it will get better from here

QuirkyUsernameHere · 29/04/2020 10:40

@TingTastic oh really?! I spoke to my doctor on the 17th.. and then he gave me a number for BPAS and got an appointment with the nurse the following Wednesday and received the tablets in the post by the Saturday but didn't take them until Monday and Tuesday this week so mine was really quick to be honest.

Luckily I had no morning sickness or anything.. I just felt bloated all the time. The only time I've been sick was yesterday after I used the first four tablets and that was only once luckily.

OP posts:
TingTastic · 29/04/2020 14:44

I should have tried BPAS. I went direct to Marie Stopes and didn’t realise it could have been so much quicker. The wait was absolutely the worst bit

How are you feeling today? I’m feeling better this afternoon than I have for weeks and the relief at it all being over is good. I think it helps that I was 100% sure of my decision the whole time

Bleeding is just normal period level now and basically no cramps / pain

QuirkyUsernameHere · 29/04/2020 15:32

I've never heard of those..
I just got referred to them from my GP.

I feel great to be honest. I slept through last night for the first time in about 5 weeks and I was in one of those really annoying, bored, good moods earlier 😂😂
Whether that's psychological that it's over and done with.. or that the codeine knocked me out and I slept for once.. or what? 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Yeah I'm the same now.. it's just like a slightly heavier period
Glad you're feeling okay now x

How're you feeling @sunandrose x

OP posts:
northnorth · 29/04/2020 21:13

Hi all,

Sorry to jump on the thread. I am in the same position.

I have a telephone consultation tomorrow. Can I ask QuirkyUsernameHere how long it took for you to receive the pills once you had the phone consultation?

How is everyone doing? I’m really nervous about what’s to come.

QuirkyUsernameHere · 29/04/2020 21:19

@northnorth don't worry.. we're all here to support each other!

I first spoke to my doctor on Friday 17th April who gave me the number for BPAS.
I rang them straight after my call with the doctor, and she took lots of details and asked a few questions and then arranged a phone appointment with a nurse the following Wednesday.

When I had the appointment with the midwife, she said she would be posted out the tablets as I was about 5-6 week and I received them by the Saturday but she did say that it would be Saturday, or Monday (this week) when I'd receive them but I had booked the Tuesday (yesterday) off work as I knew I would have the tablets by then so didn't take the first one until Monday and then the next 6 yesterday x

OP posts:
northnorth · 29/04/2020 21:24

Thank you @QuirkyUsernameHere - I rang Marie Stopes this morning and already have a phone consultation tomorrow so everything is moving very quickly. How are you feeling now?

QuirkyUsernameHere · 29/04/2020 21:29

@northnorth oh that's good.. someone else said they went through them but took about three weeks but I'm glad it's going quicker for you!

I'm feeling fine now to be honest!
I was sick once yesterday after about 1.5 hours of using the first four tablets (putting them up rather than orally) and then just after I was sick the pain started to get quite bad, like constant bad period pains so I took two codeine and after that, I had no more pain, other than a few niggles before I went to sleep so took two more codiene just to be safe.

And then today it's just been like a heavy period. I'm not usually that heavy so it's abit unusual for me but as a whole it's been a lot better than I imagined it to be.

Touch wood.. my mental health has been okay as well so far but I've always been adamant I don't want children and if an accident happened I always knew I'd have an abortion so it's been quite an easy decision to make but I know for some people it isn't always as straight forward

OP posts:
TingTastic · 29/04/2020 22:31

@northnorth just a word of warning with Marie Stopes. I rang on Sunday evening and had a telephone consultation on the Tuesday. I then had to wait 2 weeks for nurse telephone consultation. She posted the pills out on the Wed and I got them the following Monday, so it was a really long process. Apparently it is normally much quicker though and I was just unlucky that they were really busy (and had people off sick)

Otherwise my experience is basically the same as the OP

All the best x

northnorth · 30/04/2020 09:42

@QuirkyUsernameHere glad you’re okay, thank you for coming back to me. Sorry to ask but how is the bleeding now? I have two children and wondering if I need to send them to their Dads for this.

Thanks @TingTastic I am going to see what they say for timescales today and if it’s a really long wait maybe contact BPAS? I don’t want to prolong the pregnancy. I think I’m 6 weeks now.

TingTastic · 30/04/2020 10:17

They will set up the appointment today so you will know how long the wait is. If it’s going to be a long time I would recommend ringing BPAS (I regret not doing this)

I would also recommend picking pills up from the clinic if possible. They told me they were sending out first class and the wait for the postman every day was excruciating. They actually sent second class and it took nearly a week!

QuirkyUsernameHere · 30/04/2020 11:00

@northnorth I'm not usually heavy on my period but this is quite heavy. I'm probably changing a pad every time I go to the toilet though, and On a morning it seems to be worse when I first get up, or if I stand up after been sat / laid for a while.
Not sure if that's gravity or me just been weird 😂😂😂

OP posts:
northnorth · 30/04/2020 11:11

Thanks @QuirkyUsernameHere and @TingTastic !

I will ring BPAS depending on the wait .

Oh and @QuirkyUsernameHere I usually have heavy periods (sorry for TMI) and gravity does indeed play a part 😂😂

QuirkyUsernameHere · 30/04/2020 11:16

@northnorth you're welcome!

Oh it might not be too much different for you then.. or it could be even heavier? 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Who knows.. hope everything goes okay for you x

OP posts:
northnorth · 30/04/2020 12:13

I’ll keep you guys updated - love to you all x
