Anyone due in August?

I am due my second baby boy on 18th August. Just went to midwife on Thurs and was told he is breech - panicking slightly, as I thought by this stage (34+ weeks) they pretty much stay in the same position! Midwife tells me there is plenty of time for him to turn, so fingers crossed!
Would hate to have to have c-section as I found giving birth to my first little boy naturally 16 months ago very painful, but the most rewarding and fantastic experience I have ever had.

Hi everyone. Eva, I can't believe you are making us wait for a sequel to find out what happened next!! But you sound cheery enough so I hope it wasn't too bad.

Still here, no twinges, no nada. Two days over and trying not to go nuts. Have just stocked up on RLT and have drunk 4 cups which has succeeded in giving me heartburn....
beccaroll, I do feel for you. 9 days over!! maybe tonight...

Beccaroll · 01/09/2003 21:33

Well done Eva3!! Looking forward to part 2!

Still nothing from me Although im feeling a fair bit of pelvic pressure (have had to wee every 10 minutes all day), feeling some tightenings that are starting to get a bit painful but not proper contractions.

Every movement is painful now! All the space is full I think..

Ive been drinking raspberry leaf since 36 weeks - I ran out the other day and havent bothered to replace it, not sure if I should get some more, cant harm I suppose!

PPH if it's any consolation I felt buggerall till my waters broke and I launched into labour. Well, apart that is from the usual aches and pains of late pregnancy, and vague period-style cramping (for several days) but seriously nothing even resembling a contraction.

You could always, she says queasily, try sex...

bunnyrabbit · 01/09/2003 22:32

Shhh!! My DH is in the other room and doesn't know he's about to get attacked by a beached whale!! It's the only thing I haven't tried....

Glad I've only felt this uncomfortable for the past week, can't imagine what it must be like to feel this awkward earlier on in pregnancy.

Congrats Eva, but I too can't beleive you're making us wait! Well, at least it gives me something to take get excited about. Soooo fed up! And why do people still keep phoning. Wish they'd all just sod off!!!

PPH the race is still on then?

princesspeahead · 01/09/2003 22:42

my dh keeps suggesting sex but frankly I think I'd rather just keep the baby in for a few more days! I'll let bunnyrabbit attack her dh tonight and if she goes into labour tomorrow I'll think about it...

Beccaroll · 02/09/2003 09:39

I tried sex last night!!! Anyone else?? It was v uncomfortable and all I could think was "Hurry up, get those hormones out" LOL

Needless to say I havent felt anything yet though so possibly a waste of time - we'll see eh!!

Im trying desperately to be positive today - Im starting to lose perspective on this whole thing, keep having to remind myself I WILL get a baby at the end of this LOL

How are you peeps feeling??

Oh dear, feel for you. Its so frustrating just waiting.
Never did pluck up the courage to do the test drive once labour started, now I can't drive for 5 more weeks!

My little milk monster is calling so best be off.

Best of luck you guys. It is sooooo worth it in the end. I'm totally besotted by my little one. Hang in there. Hopefully by the time I get a moment to log on again you'll all be there.

bunnyrabbit · 02/09/2003 14:31

Didn't manage to jump him I'm afraid. He's actually not feeling too well, and after he'd taken some pain killers I felt a bit guilty so I left him alone. Truth be known, once I got to bed my indigestion was pretty horrific so wasn't really up for it after all.

Went to Costco with my parents hoping that the incovenience would be too tempting for baby bunny, but know go. MW is coming tomorrow and will hopefully do a sweep so watch this space....

Beccaroll, have you had a sweep? How much longer will they let you wait before they induce?

BR 40 + 4 and counting

trudles · 02/09/2003 14:44

Im 40+3 and mega pissed off dd aged 4 starting school on tuesday therefore wanted to be there for her hoping to have had baby early instead of everything being uncertain. Having stretch and sweep on saturday, my birthday what a lovely way to spend it hope it works other wise having an induction on the 12th babies head floating free from brim of pelvis. feel like an emotional wreck.

Beccaroll · 02/09/2003 15:41

Trudles youve come to the right place!! Thats about how Im feeling too!!

Im a bit concerned about the whole sweep business actually!! I was last seen at 40 weeks and the next time I see anyone is at 42 weeks for my induction!!! No checks on baby or me in between and certainly no chance for a sweep!?!? Do you think I should do something about this? Or is it standard?

bunnyrabbit · 02/09/2003 15:52

Beccaroll,
After 36 weeks you should have been seeing someone (MW or Dr or consultant) every week. As far as I am aware this should not change. I saw my MW at 39+5 weeks and will be seeing her again tomorrow 40+5. If I were you I'd asked to be seen to check baby's position etc and talk to someone about a sweep. My MW suggested to me that she try this so I don't see why you shouldn't have the same oppotunity to avoid induction if possible.

BR

Beccaroll · 02/09/2003 15:56

Yeah I was being seen every week from 36 weeks. The last time I saw my midwife was 39+3 and she didnt bother to make another appointment because I had my overdue appt at the hospital the following week.
Not sure if I have mentioned before but I had a very complcated time earlier in the pregnancy whereby I bled constantly from 6 weeks all the way through - throughout the pregnacy I was told I wouldnt go to term and baby may be very premature - the problem was a hematoma on my placenta that continued to bleed and risk the placenta.....anyway, this all sorted itself out thankfully Im no longer high risk BUT because of all this I dont think my midwife was expecting me to be late and thought the hospital would induce me sooner rather than later.

I bet none of this makes any sense!!! I think Ill give her a ring and see what she says.

My induction is booked for Friday.

trudles · 02/09/2003 15:56

I think it depends on local health policy and protocol but it is recomended by the commision for health improvement and gives you more of a chance of going into labour naturaly rather than being induced( no good at links read it inwww.parentcenter.co.uk)

trudles · 02/09/2003 15:59

labour is supposed to start in24-48 hrs in 50% of women I think Im a bit worried that the head hasnt engaged so if my waters break I will have to go straight in hospital

Eva3 · 02/09/2003 16:11

Well, here is the blow by blow account for those interested....

Went for 3rd attempt at sweep on Wed Aug 27th at 1.30pm. Huge change in cervix, now soft and a little dilated. DH and I went off to Peter Jones to get last minute car seat as the one we had borrowed needed to be returned... full on contractions in the middle of the store, went home anyway. Had clary sage on a towel at home and some lavender, contractions coming every 5 mins consistently. By 8.30pm felt we had to go in. I wanted to try to stay at home as long as I could as with previous scar, I would have to be tied up to the monitor. (see VBAC and CFM thread for more discussion)

Midwife elderly and winey, saying things like "poor you" and "this isn't fair", totally unhelpful but well-meaning. After about 45 mins she examined me and I was 5cm dilated already. OB called and by 10.30pm I was 10cm and dying to push but anterior lip still remained. Huffed and puffed and resorted to gas and air which helped but made me puke. Lovely. DH back rub a god send. Very hard rub on lower back, my tens machine was totally useless for me. OB examines afer 20min, still not allowed to push, after another 15mins, finally I can start. After 2 hrs of pushing, head only descended slightly. OB now informs me that the baby has turned its head and is not progressing. "There is no sign of this head moving down." All of a sudden, after such a positive and fast start, lots of people enter the room, I get a drip and the epidural. It had to be inserted twice and hurt much more than the contractions, remember being rather rude to the doctor... Wisked off to theatre for an attempted ventouse. After lots of pushing the OB corrected the position of the head and she came out, she was very quiet for a long time, but absolutely fine. LArge and 95% head....so perhaps no wonder. I was not torn too badly, but placenta yet another problem. It would not come out and had to be manually removed. (this happened to my mother with me, and I wonder if there is a genetic connection, am going to look into it) Thank goodness I had the epidural in for that ! SO antibiotics is was and a 2 night stay. The baby is gorgeous, feeding extremely well and I am very happy !!

Good luck to all overdue Mums, it is an agonising wait but you WILL have a gorgeous baby at the end of it all.

princesspeahead · 03/09/2003 10:31

wow eva, I'm not sure what manual removal involves but it doesn't sound very nice. hurrah for epidurals!
anyway delighted it is all over and you are back at home with lovely madeleine. hope the feeding etc is going well.

becca and bunny, are you still there?

I've decided that this one is going to be 2 weeks late and so I am going to be filled with zen-like calm until 14 September. Well, that is my intention, anyway....!

bunnyrabbit · 03/09/2003 10:44

Hi PPH,
Still here and what's worse the MW is stuck on labour ward so looks like I won't get my sweep today.

Sooooo depressed now. Oh and I managed to leave my DH's anniversary present on the bed so he saw it, instead of ignoring it he came downstairs to ask me about it. What a pratt. It was all too much and the emotional turmoil I've been nicely hiding for 40 weeks overboiled. Basically I got very annoyed at my self for being so dumb and burst into tears. Well I suppose it's only 4 days early but annoying all the same as I'm usually not that crap.

I wish I could be as calm as you PPH. I wish the world would just leave me alone until this little one decides to come out.

BR

princesspeahead · 03/09/2003 10:53

oh poor you bunny!!
Don't worry about the anniversary present - just think, by the time you have your anniversary you'll probably be in labour or looking after a 2 day old or something so it's better he got it now!!
I'm not really calm, I'm just telling myself I should be. You should have seen me yesterday when a friend of my husbands phoned - conversation went like this.
Me; "Hello?"
Him "Is this a phantom pregnancy?"
Me "Hello, [name]."
Him "I have decided you are not really pregnant at all. There is no evidence that you are, really. I had a black labrador like you once - kept going under the stairs to trick us into thinking she was going to whelp. Have you been going under the stairs recently?"
Me "Very amusing, bugger off and stop phoning".

If he phones today I'll scream.

princesspeahead · 03/09/2003 10:54

ps I think your hormonal reactions are a good sign - aren't you meant to get v premenstrual before labour??!!!!

bunnyrabbit · 03/09/2003 14:55

Dunno... My father has also suggested phantom pregnancy and he and my brother have been constantly asking me for 6 months "are you fat yet". I suggested one or two things to my father, similar to your suggestion to your friend's husband. He didn't seem very keen, although some of them may have been physically impossible at his age!!

MW has been and have had stratch and sweep. Not all that pleasant, but bearable. Am bleeding for England now (sorry!) so hopefully something will come of it...

How about you PPH? Anything at all yet?

Beccaroll, you're quiet. No word since yesterday pm. Does this mean you're on your way at last??

BR
PS. I have made a resolution to stop being rude to people!!

Beccaroll · 03/09/2003 14:59

Im still here!!!!!!!!!

11 days over now

Have spent the day in town for some retail therapy - im feeling really guilty tho, bought the babe a lovely outfit but didnt realise the price til I got to the til and bought it anyway!!!

My back was agony in town and stomach like a big rock but still no contractions!

JeniN · 03/09/2003 15:02

Hello. Good luck to everyone else. I'm now 8 days overdue. MW tried to do a stretch and sweep yesterday but it failed - cervix in wrong place or something - which she said means nothings gonna happen for a while. Anyway, induction booked for next week, so trying to mimic zen like calm but its not really working. The two hour wait at the hospital yesterday didn't help a lot. Poor DH under strict instructions to come up with programme of entertainment at the weekend so i don't go crazy. Consultant said that with first pregnancies inducted labour doesn't usually start until the second dose of pessary is given - anyone got any experience of this?

bunnyrabbit · 03/09/2003 15:05

Oh and I was so hoping you were in labour!!

So sex didn't work then? MW just told me to have loads of sex! think that would be a bit yucky at the mo. Your booked in for Friday aren't you? Hope you make it before. I'm booked in for next Teusday....

I think retail therapy is a great idea. Anything to keep your mind off it... think I might buy myself some makeup tomorrow and pay a visit to mothercare!

Curry again tonight....

trudles · 03/09/2003 15:17

bunnyrabbit · 03/09/2003 16:12

Hang in there trudles.... have periods pains now too.. but probably due to stretch and sweep.

I think having a 'clear out' is a good sign. I know of at least two people whom this happened to just before they went into labour with their babies. For one of them it happened all 3 times.
