Anyone due in August?

I am due my second baby boy on 18th August. Just went to midwife on Thurs and was told he is breech - panicking slightly, as I thought by this stage (34+ weeks) they pretty much stay in the same position! Midwife tells me there is plenty of time for him to turn, so fingers crossed!
Would hate to have to have c-section as I found giving birth to my first little boy naturally 16 months ago very painful, but the most rewarding and fantastic experience I have ever had.

Due on the 18th, so just over 2 weeks to go! The time seems to have flown this time round.
The news of next weeks heatwave went down like a lead balloon at our house - I'm irritable enough at the minute as I just can't seem to sleep at nights. Which is why some of the postings from me on here are at v. strange hours of the morning!

Oh well, good luck all!

Any news Katherine? None from me. To be honest, I've just about lost sight of the fact that there will be a baby at the end of this - it just feels like a bad dream! Oh well....you can imagine how happy I was to watch the weather forecast and see temps. of 30 degrees and above - just what I was hoping for!

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Wills · 02/08/2003 17:26

I'm due on the 24th but fully expecting this one to be late enough to get to September if it is allowed its way. Agree that the temperatures for the coming weeks look gross - and to think that I went out of my way to have a summer baby .

princesspeahead · 02/08/2003 18:01

oh dear musica, I was hoping you'd be communing with your newborn by now. Well, my (rather hippyish) midwife says that lots of babies are born with a change in weather so... fingers crossed!

Wills · 02/08/2003 19:13

pph - did she give any reason why?

Katherine · 03/08/2003 12:27

HI Muscia - nothing to report either. Feeling really fed up - I just can't imagine going into labour anymore let alone having a baby! And I feel like I've always been this shape. Everyone keeps hassling me about days out and family coming over and I just want to be left alone to get on with it. Even DH is grumpy with me because I won't go out with him and do things with the kids. At least with the hot weather back the kids can play outside so they are happy but I can already feel my feet swelling

Frogling · 03/08/2003 15:27

Hi all, I'm due on the 6th, and am really hoping not to go overdue as have had enough of carting round a wide load in this heat. I'm also suffering with SPD and am looking forward to being able to getting rid of my sticks!
Had a scan last week, which indicates a 9.5-10lb baby - eeekkkk!
This will be my second - already have a dd of 14 months, and we know we're having another little girl. Definitely not planned - always been told I couldn't have children, and that dd1 is a miracle. Still, at least I've avoided all those adoption forms and interviews now!
Had emergency caesar first time as 8lb 13oz, and lying back-to-back. I'm only 5ft and no amount of pushing would encourage Emily to arrive 'au naturel.' Still, am going to try VBAC with this one and see if I can do it.
Good luck to everyone expecting - Musica, you must be so fed up, I hope the baby comes soon.

musica · 03/08/2003 15:56

Hello - still here - still pregnant - still hot!!! Hope this heat goes away soon - hope you're all doing ok, and not suffering too much in the heat. I couldn't face going to church this morning, because of the prospect of everyone saying 'not had it yet then?' - I feel like everyone is annoyed with me for not getting on with it! Katherine - take it easy - put your feet up with an ice cream!

Wills · 03/08/2003 16:23

Musica - my sympathies. What will happen tomorrow - will you be "allowed" to go longer - looking at your posts 40 + 14 is tomorrow yes/no?

Katherine - we can form the fat feet brigade. I'm finding it difficult to bend mine they're so gross now.

Good luck to everyone!

musica · 03/08/2003 16:56

I'm 2 weeks over tomorrow, but seeing the doc on Tuesday - don't know what he will suggest - one problem is dh is going away for a week next weekend, and if babe isn't born by then, don't know what will do with 2 year old ds...! I thought it would be easily born by now! Anyway, hopefully might come before Tuesday.

Wills · 03/08/2003 17:09

Musica - I think you're brave that dh is even contemplating going away leaving you with ds and a new baby!

motherinferior · 03/08/2003 18:32

Musica (and the others!) my midwife said so too.

And Musica, really, you will have a baby. Honestly. Although I can completely understand your doubts.

pupuce · 03/08/2003 19:45

Musaic - baby will come this week.... just relax !
If you need support - keep posting !

LucieB · 04/08/2003 09:19

Quackers - thinking of you. Take it easy this week and remember we are all here for you.

bunnyrabbit · 04/08/2003 11:05

Are we all enjoying the heat ladies??

Can't wait to get home to my paddling pool... only testing it out for the baby!!!

Musica.. I'm definitely thinking of you this week....

Katherine... any news??

Just thought I would tell you a bit more about dd's birth now she is asleep and ds is in the garden with dh. Sorry if this seems self-indulgent - but I was really pleased with how it all went, and want to encourage particularly homebirthers, and overduers!

I was due on 21st July, so yesterday was officially 2 weeks over - was due to see consultant today (5th August), but yesterday morning, woke up at around 6:00 - had one or two pains which I thought were probably contractions, but didn't want to get my hopes up! So I got up, and by about 7:15 I was more convinced that this was the start of labour - the contractions were getting much closer together and stronger. Something that surprised me was that the spacing very quickly moved together - i.e. contraction2 was after 20 mins, contraction3 after 10 mins, contraction4 after 5. So I woke dh up, and still wasn't totally convinced, so had a bath, and then thought we really ought to call the mw. So we phoned her at about 8:15, and she arrived at about 9:30. (This seems a long time, but the shifts were changing at 9, and we wanted to wait for the mw who I'd seen throughout, since this was an option.)

Ds went off to play with friends, and when mw arrived I was 10 cm! So she instantly called for the other mw. I hadn't really planned to do the whole thing without entonox, but having got that far on my own, and also having a bit of a phobia about feeling sick/whoozy it seemed like a good idea. Having said that, I was being totally pathetic, and to every question such as 'would you like to move/have pain relief' was just whimpering 'I don't know....!' - not very helpful for the midwife! In the end, I managed to move off the bed into the position I'd planned for, which was kneeling by the side of the bed - this really helped with the 2nd stage - moved from no pushing urge to dd being born in 2 pushes. I'd definitely recommend it if you're thinking about what position to labour in. You can also bury your head in the bed, and whimper if you're like me!

Dd was born at 10:10, and just needed a whiff of oxygen , but was otherwise absolutely fine, weighing 10lb 2oz. She fed really quickly, and is very peaceful. I had a little tear, but no stitches needed. I'm really really grateful to our midwives who were so fantastic. And I'm SO glad we went for the homebirth option.

Bizarrely, although she was 2 weeks over, she had the appearance of a slightly early baby - vernix etc. and when examined by the GP, he hadn't realised she was late, and was really surprised. So do hold out for your instincts, if you feel that you don't need to go down the induction road.

Hope this isn't too long and boring - I just thought I would share the experience - I'm so glad it went the way it did, and I hope those of you awaiting births have some good news very soon. Thanks so much for your support!

princesspeahead · 05/08/2003 18:58

musica, that sounds absolutely wonderful! you complete star, no pool, no gas and air and a 10ob baby - bloody hell!
thanks very much for posting this, it is exactly how I hope my homebirth would be (except I want the gas and air, and a baby about 2lbs lighter, thanks!)
many congrats, and enjoy the lovely new one.

bossykate · 05/08/2003 19:48

not long and boring at all! well done! it's good of you to write down your experience here as encouragement for others

WideWebWitch · 05/08/2003 19:56

Musica, thanks for sharing your story - it's not boring at all, it's very encouraging to those of us thinking about home birth. To be at 10cm within 3 hours is great, I really hope mine's like this, except, as PPH says, a couple of lbs lighter would be nice! No stitches is also most impressive, wow! I'm really grateful to you for letting us have the full details here, thanks!

Oops, sorry.

Gem13 · 05/08/2003 20:30

musica - thanks for sharing your birth experience. It sounds wonderful, just the thing for someone like me who had a horrid time last time and is wondering whether home might be better this time.

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter. It all sounds wonderfully chilled in your house - no wonder she arrived with such ease. Welcome to baby musica!

janh · 06/08/2003 10:59

musica, you make it sound like the easiest thing in the world! Congratulations, you are a real star! LOL at you moaning "I don't knoooow!" to every question - bless!

I am so interested in what you said about delivering kneeling on the floor leaning on the bed; I have only had caesarians, so my experience of childbirth is second-hand off t'telly, but I always think it looks so uncomfortable and unnatural when those poor women are flat on their backs with their legs in stirrups - the way you did it seems completely logical.

Hope DD stays peaceful for you - she sounds lovely!
