Anyone due in August?

I am due my second baby boy on 18th August. Just went to midwife on Thurs and was told he is breech - panicking slightly, as I thought by this stage (34+ weeks) they pretty much stay in the same position! Midwife tells me there is plenty of time for him to turn, so fingers crossed!
Would hate to have to have c-section as I found giving birth to my first little boy naturally 16 months ago very painful, but the most rewarding and fantastic experience I have ever had.

Best of luck, everyone.xxxxxxxx

Dh has just gone to drop ds off at his Grandma's as I am now in labour too!

Went out for tea earlier and felt a bit overly moist 'down under' - checked in loos and I was having a proper 'show' (bloody). Needless to say even though labour can be miles off from then we couldn't eat for excitement!

Quite painful contractions in my lower back are now coming every 5 minutes.
Just had to stop typing for a particularly bad one! God, now I remember this!!!!!!!!!!!

So this is it!
Gotta go, post as soon as I'm able,
love Neen

Good luck labouring ones! Looking forward to some good news....

bunnyrabbit · 27/08/2003 22:53

Well guys, I hate to be a copy cat, but just been down to labour ward as my strange pains are definitely contractions. Every 4 minutes or so but not very strong or long.

MW said it was OK to come home but have to call her when it gets painful and she says I don't have to go straight to hospital, she'll come and visit me first if I want. Nice huh!

So I may be online later on if I can't sleep....

Looks like the race is on. Neen, Eva, if you read this, I'll see you on the other side.

PPH, what are the odds like now??

princesspeahead · 28/08/2003 09:52

bloody hell! not fair, not fair, wait up...
clunk
(sound of PPH falling at the water jump as the others sail past her....)

mears · 28/08/2003 10:35

Something must be going on eh?

mears · 28/08/2003 10:36

Do something really nice for yourself today PPH

Beccaroll · 28/08/2003 10:40

Is it just me and you PPH thats not in labour?

Katherine · 28/08/2003 11:01

Blimey you guys really took the race thing seriously didn't you. Wow!

Never mind PPP and Becca - your time will come VERY soon - and at least you can still post on mumsnet

bunnyrabbit · 28/08/2003 11:02

Bother and blast... still here guys.. very uncomfy night... now have achy legs and sore ears from all the tossing and turning.

Still getting some contractions but not at all painful. Oh well at least was here to take delivery of new matress for carrycot and replacement cot. I'm also having carpet fitted in the babies room today instead of leaving it till next week so I suppose it's not all bad.

Then of course, that means it's likely to all go off in the middle of the fitting!! Worse thing is we decided DH should go to work today, so if anything happens, does that mean I have to call my mum to help me with the TENS machine!! perish the thought, I think I'd rather suffer the pain!!

Just going to hoover upstairs then mop the kitchen and bathroom floors...

princesspeahead · 28/08/2003 11:49

just made a rather delicious smelling apple cake with my dd. feeling rather Nigella (not her recipe I hasten to add - my grandmothers - ohh, feeling even more Nigella now!)
wouldn't have been able to do that if I'd been in labour...!

sorry to hear about your setback bunnyrabbit - the tops of my legs have been hurting since my exciting night a couple of nights ago - strange, hmmmm?
beccaroll, are you baking?!

Beccaroll · 28/08/2003 12:03

No baking from me!

Im actually doing some work!? - Id rather be in labour to be honest!

After finish this work, Im going to do some exercises to try and get this baby turned round from posterior!

What an exciting day!

bunnyrabbit · 28/08/2003 15:48

Funny.. I bought some baking stuff last week with the intention of making an apple cake!! I have a bramley apple tree in the garden... only difference is it's my mum's recipe!! Scarey stuff... of course, I haven't made it yet. Does this mean we're nesting? Cool....

Beccaroll, I was told yesterday that baby bunny is also lying almost op, just off to the left-handside. Hence hoovering and cleaning floors. Silly isn't it, as soon as your tummy gets so low that it's uncomfortable to sit forwards, that's all your allowed to do.

BR

princesspeahead · 28/08/2003 15:51

bunnyrabbit - mine was with homegrown bramleys as well! great minds...
I highly advise it. If I'm not going to be in labour, then the next best thing is stuffing cake in my mouth IMO

princesspeahead · 28/08/2003 15:55

RIGHT I'M BORED BORED BORED

house is spotless; baby's room is organised to within an inch of its life; birthing pool room all ready and waiting, stacked with towels, lavender oil, camera etc etc etc; cake is baked and half eaten; daily afternoon nap has been taken; Lansinoh cream and breast pads ready to go in my bedside drawer.....

AURHGHGHGHGH! What am I going to DO with myself now? I could have another fortnight of waiting!

Children are playing at a friends house so I can't even entertain myself with them. And if I hear one more word about the hutton inquiry on radio 4 I'll scream.

bunnyrabbit · 28/08/2003 15:57

Right .. well I'll definitely have to make it now then.. tomorrow I think.

Carpet is laid in baby's room and it's lovely, but no action on my part.... contractions again but not enough to put on TENS machine.

DH has booked a hair cut for tomorrow afternoon near where he works so things are bound to happen half way through that as it'll take him about 1 1/2 hours get back from St Pauls!!

Oh and I was a bad little bunny at lunch time... had scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. 'Spose that's OK as the salmon gets cooked.

Yawn

princesspeahead · 28/08/2003 17:42

i'm planning scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and bagel for breakfast! haven't had smoked salmon for ages but I figure - bugger it. are you sure we aren't the same person??

just spent the last 2 hours completely sorting out DD and DS's clothes - they have grown out of EVERYTHING. Now have lovely sorted piles of loft, charity, rubbish. Feeling most satisfied...

SoupDragon · 28/08/2003 17:47

So, what's the recipe for this/these fantastic apple cakes?? I too have a (very small) bramley apple tree in my garden.

bunnyrabbit · 28/08/2003 18:06

Mum's is very simple. You make a very sweet pastry using the following:

6oz marge/butter
6oz sugar
1lb sr flour
2 eggs
almond essence
splash of milk

And line the base of a greased tin with a third of the mixture. slice 2lb of apples and place half on top. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon to taste then add another layer of pastry. Repeat.

The second and top layer of pastry you sort of make flat bits out of chunks so you don't necesarrily have a complete layer. Makes it more interesting. You can also put a layerof your favourite jam ontop of the pastry. Mum uses sultanas too... but DH doesn't like them.

Bake for 1 hour on 180c.

What's yours PPH?

This is my first baby so don't know how you manage it with 2 already!! But I have carpet in the baby's room and DH was going to put up blinds in our room and curtain rail in baby's tonight, but there's a signal failure at Liverpool st, so he's gonna be late, and if I did it I'd never hear the end of it.... so bored now I think I'll eat something.

I s'pose Neen and Eva have won the race.... still getting contractions though.

BR

princesspeahead · 28/08/2003 18:07

just emailed it to you soupy. but for the benefit of everyone else....!

2 eggs,
8oz sugar(castor).
3 3/4 oz butter
1/4 pint fullfat milk
6-7 ozs plain flour
2 tsp (rounded)baking powder
3-4 large Bramleys.

Whisk eggs and sugar together till whisk leaves a trail when lifted out of the mixer. Bring to boil, just, milk with butter and stir the hot mixture into the eggs/sugar. Mix baking powder and flour and fold it in above mixture until there are no lumps. Pour mixture into large buttered and floured pyrex (about the size of an A4 piece of paper).
Thickly slice peeled and quartered apples and lay carefully over the batter in overlapping lines. Sprinkle with some caster sugar and bake at gas 6 or 200C or 400F for 30minutes. Let it cool in the baking dish.

Enjoy!

bunnyrabbit · 28/08/2003 18:09

Ooohhh I'm gonna try yours tomorrow. Sounds far more exciting.

BR

princesspeahead · 28/08/2003 18:10

oh we overlapped BR! yours sounds completely different and very good.. maybe I'll try that on the weekend.

my dh is caught up by a buggered up piccadilly line. some things in life are reliable... the crapness of the tube for one!

jealous of your contractions...

motherinferior · 28/08/2003 18:44

Both cake recipes look utterly fab. Enjoy (says woman too knackered to contemplate any sort of baking) and GET SOME SLEEP!

WideWebWitch · 28/08/2003 20:10

You lot should print out this thread for your memory boxes I think, it's such a sweet little record of the waiting and wanting...very homely too, what with the apple pie recipes and all! Looking forward to finding out final race positions

princesspeahead · 28/08/2003 20:55

It is a bit Little House on the Prairie, isn't it? We should set up a quilting circle too!

Longing to hear from Myers the Cat, and Eva, and Neen....
