Hi everyone!

Well, I got my BFP on Friday morning and it is only just starting to sink in! According to my dates I am due 2nd Feb and I thought it would be nice to have a Feb babies thread, where we can all share our news/worries/excitement!

Cant wait to hear from you

VV I'm surprised you're showing as much as you say, wow! Maybe you have more than one in there eh?!?! ;) I must admit tho, last night at work I did think my lil pod belly was a little bit more defined and poddy! haha

Is anyone going to be using any oils to help prevent stretch marks?! A friend of mine who's due any day has sworn by bio oil but suggests using it from day one. What do people think on this???

GinaFB · 22/06/2010 15:14

My SIL swears by bio oil and she barely had any stretch marks after 2 pregnancies. I have lots anyway from being large when young and then suddenly losing a lot of weight in my mid teens so I know I'm going to suffer badly with them!

tabbycat76 · 22/06/2010 15:17

GinaFB - yeah I know pretty much the run of likely events and I know given a blood disorder I have I'll be shared care and all that malarky but sometimes too much knowledge is a worrying thing! I think I'm going to be a neurotic pregnant woman! I didn't work at the hospital I'll be booking at unfortunately so no special perks for me (like side rooms!!) And I don't know the midwives either, but I think I'll be their worst nightmare, ex midwife and current nurse! Hahaha, oh dear!

tabbycat76 · 22/06/2010 15:20

Right, Bio oil it is! Cheaper to buy over the net guys, either amazon.co.uk or chemistdirect.co.uk Boots are double/triple the price apparently.

angels1 · 22/06/2010 15:24

stretch marks? bio oil? do we need to start doing that now? I hadn't even thought about it. Have never used it in my life, so presume you just rub some on your stomach every day? I've noticed today my body is more wobbly - my arms and tummy, but I think that's just as I'm so hungry all the time so have been eating more (not junk...just more) and it helps stop that sicky feeling.

will look on amazon for bio oil

tabbycat76 · 22/06/2010 15:33

Yeah you have to start using it early on to help your skin adapt to the changes and become a little more pliable (is that the right word to use in this context? But you know what I mean)My friend used it every night before she went to bed, just massaged it into her tummy. She said it took AGES to absorb in but needs must guys! I guess you'd apply it anywhere you get stretch marks, so boobs, thighs, tummy etc. Haha, maybe our partners will like assisting in that one! hahaha, sorry!

GinaFB · 22/06/2010 15:33

angels don't forget your boobs!! they will need some bio oil too!!!! sorry if TMI!!! xxx

GinaFB · 22/06/2010 15:36

tabby aren't all pregnant women neurotic!!!? I am a "goooooogler" which I think are another hated type of patient! I come to my GP and midwife apps armed with printed web pages!!! I can see their faces fall when I walk in and they spot the "folder" and know how long they are going to be answering questions!! ooops

GinaFB · 22/06/2010 15:37

My niece has chicken pox and we are supposed to be seeing the in laws on Friday as some are visiting from NYC. I have had chicken pox so I think I and the bean are protected but should I be worried and avioding them does anyone know?

tabbycat76 · 22/06/2010 15:39

Hahaha, you're funny GinaFB - every midwives worst nightmare! Hilarious!

tabbycat76 · 22/06/2010 15:42

Just 'goooooogled' chicken pox and exposure in pregnancy. If you're sure you've had it you should be immune so not a porblem. If you're not sure and you're exposed you could risk causing harm to the baby so best to avoid contact but ask your mum too, she'll remember.

varicoseveined · 22/06/2010 15:46

Tabbycat76 yep I heard that second pregnancies often whow earlier and I had a little tummy but even DH commented on my belly this morning! Will keep you all posted of there's more than one in there, lol

Feel a bit tired, acute sense of smell and occasional queasiness are my symptoms at the mo.

GinaFB · 22/06/2010 15:48

tabby I am pretty sure I had it when I was 13. I still have a pox scar on my face! I have called my GP and am waiting for a call back but when I googled it said the same as you.

Its difficult to know, I am reluctant to take too many risks even statistically small risks after previous history...

judyjiggles · 22/06/2010 15:54

I'm getting worried because you guys all seem to having loads of symptoms and even visible ones! I think I'm three weeks pregnant (conception) but the doc said five weeks (from last period). Am I way earlier on that most of you on here? The doc gave a birth estimate date of 20 February 2011...

I don't have any symptoms apart from sore boobs at the moment...

Its my first time pregnant so I don't really know what to expect.

Angels1, VV and tabbycat76 how many weeks are you all if you don't mind me asking?

angels1 · 22/06/2010 15:56

thanks for the bio oil hint ladies - have just got some from amazon. It's great to have this messagboard where we can keep upto date and not feel alone whilst we keep everything so secret.

tabbycat76 · 22/06/2010 15:57

Fear not judyjiggles, I'm 5 weeks and 6 days today and have next to no symptoms. You're not alone! Everyones different so I think we should be blessed (at the moment!) ;) By my period dates I'm due 16th Feb

KnitterNotTwitter · 22/06/2010 16:15

judy everyone will count from the first day of your last period, even if you know when you concieved! It's then 40 weeks from first day of last period to due date...

I'd be happy with the sore boobs symptoms if that's all you have - none of the others are that great/desirable especially morning sickness! that said MS normally kicks in at week 6 so maybe Thursday morning.....

With my DC1 my boobs and feet grew a size overnight and as a result I got ingrown toe nails which were a huge hassle to sort out while pregnant as you can't have the normal drugs. Ended up going to a fancy Harley Street Toe Man - ooooh!

judyjiggles · 22/06/2010 16:18

Ah ok Tabbycat76 thanks - that's reassuring!

As for the bio-oil thing: isn't bio-oil just a more expensive version of almond oil? you can get almond oil quite cheap online - i get mine from i think 'essentialoilsonline' - i got a massive litre bottle which should keep me going for a while :-/

Does anyone have any opinion on actual essential oils (rather than carrier oils)? seems like they're a no-no but can't really understand why! I'm gutted too - I like wearing patchouli oil (old hippy smell) but it seems that's out for the next eight months......

angels1 · 22/06/2010 16:21

yes, I'm 5 weeks and a day (since first day of last period) but I'm super bad with hormones in general, so started getting odd symptoms a week before my period was due...which I don't think is particularly common. The books that I've got seem to talk about it all kicking off usually from week 6, so I'm sure you've got it to look forward to! ;)

tabbycat76 · 22/06/2010 16:27

You lot crack me up on here -
knitternottwitter - MS normally kicks in at week 6 so maybe Thursday morning..... I'll let you know! ;)

Are we supposed to be using nut based oils during pregnancy? I don't know

judyjiggles · 22/06/2010 16:29

Ok thanks everyone. I'm not complaining though - I would be quite happy without the symptoms! its just so hard to gauge things at the moment because its all so new isn't it! even for those of you having your second, third or fourth babies - I guess its slightly different each time round...

Ouch with the toes knitternottwitter!!!!

KnitterNotTwitter · 22/06/2010 16:30

FWIW I used bio-oil enthusiastically when pregnant with DS and still had hideous red stretchmarks all over the underneath of my bump - grrrr. Still I'm pre-stretched now so they can't get any worse... can they....

judyjiggles · 22/06/2010 16:42

Are you guys posting from work? I'm having a hard time cos every time I open the page 'mumsnet' flashes up and I have to try and minimise it

why did i have to have a desk that people walk past all the time

smallblackflowers · 22/06/2010 16:44

hi all, I've just found a good website which tells you what antenatal screening your LHA provides fetalanomaly.screening.nhs.uk/localscreening

Am really pleased as it looks like I'm going to get the NT screening on the NHS, and can now afford to go to a spa day that I've been invited to.

My belly is looking and feeling bigger, my boobs are bigger and droopier, but have only put on 1 lb.

sweetnitanitro · 22/06/2010 16:49

I read somewhere that stretchmarks are largely genetic, so if you get them you can blame your mum I didn't get any until the last couple of weeks but they faded quite fast and are so low down that I can still get away with a two-piece if I'm feeling brave! I did use bio-oil anyway and it is nice and relaxing to rub it all over your bump, it's a nice way to bond with the baby too

Still not having too many symptoms, lots of stretchy crampy sort of feelings though. Man, am I ever glad my boobs aren't sore! DD has got some teeth coming and all day she's been climbing on me, lifting up my shirt and saying 'booby, booby!'. There's no way I'd cope if my boobs were sore!

Banana good luck with your scan, fingers crossed x
