Hello everyone!
Well! It would appear people at work are starting to guess and I'm having to find excuses not to tell them as my boss doesn't (well does now!) know! Worked a night shift shift last night and the ward was excruciatingly hot!!! I made some complaint about how uncomfortable it was working in that heat and they said "you had a funny turn a few weeks ago, I bet you're pregnant!" Well that rollercoasted into "do a pregnancy test!!!" (we have access to testing kits on the ward!) But, like I would tell them before my husband if I hadn't of known at that point! Anyway, I've since come home to sleep as I should be working tonight too, and I've woken up with nasty abdo cramps. Apparently it's quite normal in early pregnancy according to search engines on the net but still worrying! No bleeding and the pain has since eased up thankfully. I do suffer with IBS so it could have been that. Anyway, I thought I'd better phone in work and ask them if they think I should go in tonight..... who should answer the phone but my boss (a hard faced stern ward matron!) so rather begrudgingly told her my news over the phone!!!! Needless to say she didn't sound best pleased and said to stay at home tonight. That's what I wanted to hear but feel absolutely awful that I had to inform her over the phone, I mean, how crap is that!!!!
I'm expecting a call Thursday from the mw to arrange a booking, so I'm going to push for an early dating scan and mention these cramps. I'm at a point that I realy need reassurance tho I know I should feel lucky at the lack of symptoms. I guess we're never happy with our own circumstances!
On the drinking front - I'm drinking decaff coffee and have done for years, I can taste no difference between that and normal so it works for me, thought I'm not drinking massively. Maybe I should start to as I've heard that combined with regular gentle excerise can hold off ms!
jackinthebump - my husband too is a bit older, 38, and apart from worrying that he'd be the oldest dad at the school gates, isn't worried that much. The only thing I have heard is that the older the man the higher risk of having a child with behavioural problems like ADHD or Aspergers etc. I don't know how accurate that is tho. But then like judyjiggles said (welcome and congrats to you btw judyjigs) if Charlie Chapline can father a baby in his 80's, and so did ol' Des O'Connor too didn't he?!?! then I think us older parents should be ok.
As I'm writing this out my cramps are easing - much relief!
Sorry for waffling but had a lot to catch up on!
