Hi everyone!

Well, I got my BFP on Friday morning and it is only just starting to sink in! According to my dates I am due 2nd Feb and I thought it would be nice to have a Feb babies thread, where we can all share our news/worries/excitement!

Cant wait to hear from you

judyjiggles, re tea drinking, I really can't stand the taste of de-caf tea. I know lots of people say it tastes the same, but to me it tastes rank!

Am drinking lots of fruit tea and other weird and wonderful things...

D

GinaFB · 22/06/2010 10:26

Deliaskis I am a fruit tea junkie but have stopped drinking most of them and moved to decaf earl grey! I know that some of the fruit teas have rasberry root which can start labour so am being super careful! Which ones are you having? G

Diamondback · 22/06/2010 10:55

I'm taking lots of supplements - the boots mum-to-be advanced, which includes omega and probiotics (I'm a bit prone to thrush) and the other day I added the Mumomega supplement as I've already got really bad baby brain - so bad I had to go into Boots 4 times, because I couldn't remember what I'd gone in there for!

I'm also now fully stocked on snacks - under my desk are a six pack of wheat bites, six pack of twiglets, fruit bars, granola bars, panda licorice, a malt loaf and two packs of Starburst (I find having a couple of sweets helps when I start feeling dizzy or sick)!

So, that should get me through the next couple of days

KnitterNotTwitter · 22/06/2010 12:06

DiamondBack for thrush have you tried Grapefruit Seed Extract? I had evil thrush when BFing DS1 and it did the trick for me. Actually you've reminded me that I should get some more in preparation for next time round! The stuff I got was Biocidin Forte

www.revital.co.uk/BioCare_Biocidin_Forte_Grapefruit_Seed_Extract

but shop around as that isn't necesarily the best price...

morning all,
wow I go away for a long weekend and there are pages and pages to catch up on ! Well went for my early pregnancy scan (with Babybond) on Friday, thinking I was 8 weeks. Had a normal ultrasound (with a full bladder) and she found the sac but couldn't see anything.

She was great and had warned us in advance - especially when I told her I had a long and erratic cycle (32-36 days) this might be the case as I might be earlier than I thought (LMP 23 April so my calculations made me 8 weeks on Fri 18th June. I then had to go and pee (thank goodness) and she tried again. Some vague flickerings but she decided the internal scan would be best.

Definitely wasn't looking forward to it but it is one of those things that the thought is far worse than the reality. Nothing like as invasive (ewww) as a smear test and not sore or in any harmful to the pregnancy at all (for anyone who might have to have one).

So with the internal she saw the sac, and a tiny embryo ! So by her measurements she thinks I am just 6 weeks and delighted as I am that everything looks OK so far (heartbeat a little slow but it can be apparently and gets faster every day) I'm a bit gutted to be back 2 weeks if that makes sense. Sounds silly but I'm sure some of you know what I mean.

So we're going back on the 2nd July for an 8 week scan where fingers crossed everything will be progressing well and normally...

Got my booking in appointment tomorrow on the NHS so will be interested to see what the midwives have to say about it. The sonographer gave me some pictures and also notes to take to my booking in appointment...and how great is this - the follow up Babybond scan next week is free ! Was very surprised at that.

applecharlotte · 22/06/2010 12:31

Dee36 - I'm glad it went well for you... it must have been a bit of a rollercoaster whilst you were there though. Thank god for that little embryo - v happy for you. How come the second scan is free?

I'm booked in with babybond in london next thursday (7+6) so i'm glad you had a good experience.. makes me feel less nervous.

KnitterNotTwitter · 22/06/2010 12:35

Dee36 Great news that you saw you baby - and that the next one is free. I had a 5 week scan and they could only find the sac on an internal scan. It was a very long two weeks until I went back for my 7 week scan. Let us know when you've got a revised due date and we'll update the stats!

Deliaskis · 22/06/2010 12:47

GinaFB Oh no I am now panicking about fruit teas. The ones I am having are raspberry, cranberry and elderflower. No raspberry root in them though?

I just can't stand the taste of de-caf, although haven't tried de-caf earl grey. If I get some and don't like them though, that will be 3 boxes of 'funny tea' that I won't be drinking!

Deliaskis · 22/06/2010 13:03

Just having a mini-whoop as I can't do this publicly, but I have just discovered, quite by accident, that my company's mat leave policy is 6 weeks at 90% and then 6 months at half pay! I thought it would be SMP after the 6 weeks.

Am over the moon!!!!

Dx

banana87 · 22/06/2010 13:10

Hi ladies,

Although I have not been posting in the last week, I have been watching!

Congrats to all the BFP's joining us

As for me, I have a private scan tonight at 6:30pm and I am dreading it. I have gone through every possibility of outcome over and over in my mind but I am just dreading it. Not helping is that I feel absolutely rubbish and a half with morning sickness and tiredness, no appetite, blah blah blah. Was sick yesterday for the first time and a very near miss on the train on Sunday. Slept 24 hours between yesterday and this morning so feeling alot better but still laying on the sofa as not to upset anything!

Anyway, please if you can, cross your fingers for me for tonight. I will update as soon as I can.

sweetnitanitro · 22/06/2010 13:11

That's good news about your mat leave Delia!

Never heard of raspberry root tea ginaFB, do you mean raspberry leaf? More info HERE. I took some raspberry leaf tablets the first time around (apparently the tea is minging) when I got to about 36 weeks, not sure if it made any difference though.

I can defo tell the difference between decaf and caf, Clipper organic decaf is quite nice though (must visit my mum more often!).

If you google 'fruit tea and pregnancy' there are load of results.

KnitterNotTwitter · 22/06/2010 13:16

banana Thanks for updating us - will definitely have fingers crossed for you at 6.30 tonight...

GinaFB · 22/06/2010 13:45

sweetnitanitro yes you are right I did mean rasberry leaf!! (baby brain kicking in)

GinaFB · 22/06/2010 13:46

banana keeping my fingers crossed for you xx

canoe · 22/06/2010 13:51

Fingers crossed for you Banana, hope it all goes well.

Gina you have my sympathy with the dog - we've just got a puppy, she's about 2 months old, and isn't quite house trained yet, she needs to go out twice a night - once at about 1230, and again at around 4. DP usually takes her, but he's away at the moment so i'm having to.

Also I'm really struggling with her smell, i asked DP before he went if he thought we should wash her, and he said that he couldnt smell her at all. Think it must be my pregnancy nose playing up!! But it means i don;t really want to play with her, or stroke her or anything. Feeling v guilty as all she wants is a cuddle...

tabbycat76 · 22/06/2010 14:14

Hello everyone!

Well! It would appear people at work are starting to guess and I'm having to find excuses not to tell them as my boss doesn't (well does now!) know! Worked a night shift shift last night and the ward was excruciatingly hot!!! I made some complaint about how uncomfortable it was working in that heat and they said "you had a funny turn a few weeks ago, I bet you're pregnant!" Well that rollercoasted into "do a pregnancy test!!!" (we have access to testing kits on the ward!) But, like I would tell them before my husband if I hadn't of known at that point! Anyway, I've since come home to sleep as I should be working tonight too, and I've woken up with nasty abdo cramps. Apparently it's quite normal in early pregnancy according to search engines on the net but still worrying! No bleeding and the pain has since eased up thankfully. I do suffer with IBS so it could have been that. Anyway, I thought I'd better phone in work and ask them if they think I should go in tonight..... who should answer the phone but my boss (a hard faced stern ward matron!) so rather begrudgingly told her my news over the phone!!!! Needless to say she didn't sound best pleased and said to stay at home tonight. That's what I wanted to hear but feel absolutely awful that I had to inform her over the phone, I mean, how crap is that!!!!

I'm expecting a call Thursday from the mw to arrange a booking, so I'm going to push for an early dating scan and mention these cramps. I'm at a point that I realy need reassurance tho I know I should feel lucky at the lack of symptoms. I guess we're never happy with our own circumstances!

On the drinking front - I'm drinking decaff coffee and have done for years, I can taste no difference between that and normal so it works for me, thought I'm not drinking massively. Maybe I should start to as I've heard that combined with regular gentle excerise can hold off ms!

jackinthebump - my husband too is a bit older, 38, and apart from worrying that he'd be the oldest dad at the school gates, isn't worried that much. The only thing I have heard is that the older the man the higher risk of having a child with behavioural problems like ADHD or Aspergers etc. I don't know how accurate that is tho. But then like judyjiggles said (welcome and congrats to you btw judyjigs) if Charlie Chapline can father a baby in his 80's, and so did ol' Des O'Connor too didn't he?!?! then I think us older parents should be ok.

As I'm writing this out my cramps are easing - much relief!

Sorry for waffling but had a lot to catch up on!

GinaFB · 22/06/2010 14:31

Thanks canoe!! Our own dog is 2 and perfect in her night time routine also she doesn't shed so its a bit of a shock to the system to have to get up early and have hair everywhere (plus the smell OMG!)!!

tabby sorry to hear about the cramps, I hope they get better soon & your matron is ok when you see her next!

sweetnitanitro I also quite like Red Bush tea,its naturally caffine free. Have to be in the right mood for it though! I had some fantastic Lychee loose tea from Hong Kong from a friend but figured I didn't know what was in it so better to give it a miss for a while!!

tabbycat76 · 22/06/2010 14:33

Haha, I just tried to read back my post once I'd posted it and couldn't find it where I thought it'd be! It would seem I have missed reading 2 whole pages of thread! My God this thread is getting soooo long to catch up on! And so many newbies.. welcome to you all and much congratulations to you!

Good luck with the scan at 1830 banana. I'm almost tempted to broach the option of having a private scan myself. I'll wait and see what the mw says Thursday first tho. How cool to see your embryo at 6 weeks! Amazing isn't it!

I worked as a midwife for 7 years and it still never ceases to amaze me how fascinating the human body is with re to procreation! I'm finding it completely different tho when YOU'RE the one pregnant, so much more to learn and worry about!

GinaFB · 22/06/2010 14:43

tabby are you still a midwife?

tabbycat76 · 22/06/2010 14:52

GinaFB no I quit 3.5 years ago. Too much politics in it but great job!

varicoseveined · 22/06/2010 14:55

I'm only 5+1 but absolutely huge! Anyone else? I'm thinking that there's little point in not telling people before 12 weeks at this rate

tabbycat76 · 22/06/2010 14:57

I've got a little pod belly but then I've been blessed with a pod belly all my life that couldn't be shifted with any amount of exercise! We're trying to hold out till closer to 12 weeks but it's getting increasingly difficult ie with work

KnitterNotTwitter · 22/06/2010 15:05

tabby love the idea of a pod belly

I'm huge and wondering how I kept it a secret until 16 weeks last time...! Although I guess it was easier when it was winter and I could swamp my bump in cardigans and big jumpers...

I looked particularly huge when I was wearing my maternity trousers and top on Sunday! I guess maternity clothes allow you to pop-out more!

GinaFB · 22/06/2010 15:06

varicoseveined I am 7+3 and I feel HUGE my hips and tum have already increased in size dramatically and my boobs are a cup size up alrady! I put it down to ZERO tummy tone!!

Am going to try and get away with 12 weeks but don't think I will if I continue to grow ar this rate!!

GinaFB · 22/06/2010 15:10

tabby know how you feel about work politics! Good at least that you know the ropes and I guess the midwives!! I find it very confusing about what I should and shouldn't be getting re scans and care etc as each MW team seems to work differently dependent on the NHS Trust!!
