Hi everyone!

Well, I got my BFP on Friday morning and it is only just starting to sink in! According to my dates I am due 2nd Feb and I thought it would be nice to have a Feb babies thread, where we can all share our news/worries/excitement!

Cant wait to hear from you

Hello and congratulations to all the new mamas-to-be!

I feel exhausted! All I can do is sleep, and when I wake up I just feel travelsick. I work freelance from home, and have had to tell various 'employers' in the hope they don't just think I'm being lazy!

Booking appointment tomorrow, very excited. Just collected my 30-page 'Personal Maternity Records' and wee sample pot (first of many!). Bring it on!

Hope everyone is well and happy X

Hi Everyone!

Angels1, you should have a chat to your HR person at work. My understanding is that in the public sector (which I'm guessing you are) you get up to six weeks on full pay, although it also depends on how long you've been working there, what kind of contract, etc. Definitely don't let anyone else stress you with conflicting advice - go straight to your line manager or HR and ask.

On the subject of what you can't eat, MN has a good section under 'Pregnancy: Dos and Don'ts' that tells you what's what and also includes a link to the Food Standards Agency with a full list of what you should eat, what you shouldn't eat, how much alcohol/caffeine/oily fish is ok and also a list of things people might tell you you can't eat, but are actually fine - genius!

You can read it here: www.eatwell.gov.uk/agesandstages/pregnancy/whenyrpregnant/#cat226049.

My boobs feel like they're trying to escape today..

sweetnitanitro · 14/06/2010 15:08

Argh, I'd forgotten about all the wee samples! They are such a pain!

Congrats Deliaskis is this your first then? There is a due date calculator on mumsnet, if you know the date of your last period then it will tell you your due date, although a dating scan is more accurate. The mumsnet one puts me at 17th Feb but I have checked a few other sites and they all said the 16th. Will have to wait a few more weeks to find out!

Deliaskis · 14/06/2010 15:20

sweetnitanitro yes first time - so I'm a bit thick about all the details at the mo, can't believe it actually happened that quickly TBH!

Thanks for your help, that calc is putting me at 13th Feb, so in between 10th and 17th. I guess I must be unusual in knowing pretty much exactly the date of conception, but not really knowing my normal cycle (although I do know the date of my last period).

I guess I'll wait for a scan to be sure, but I would like to know where on the trackers I am, in terms of what is happening in there now!

D

sweetnitanitro · 14/06/2010 16:06

Don't worry, just when you've done it all once and you think you've got it sussed they go and change all the rules DD is only 20 mo and I just got a call from my MW saying that a few things had changed in that short space of time. Still, I have my booking in appointment on the 9th of July! I thought you only had to do medical history questions the first time.

Delia, make sure you know a bit about the medical history of your immediate family so that you don't sit there going "don't know, don't know, never even heard of that one, don't know...." like I did the first time around

Deliaskis · 14/06/2010 16:47

Thanks sweetnitanitro, good advice re checking immediate family history. I know mine but not much about my husband's family.

I think I am going to take a step away from this thread for now.

I had a scan today which the sonographer told me she could see the heartbeat, then after some more fiddling said she actually couldn't see it, leaving me completely in limbo for the next 2 weeks. I will be going private next week but trying not to get my hopes up and am rather depressed to be honest, on top of horrid morning sickness creeping in, possibly just to be mean to me and not because things are as they should be.

sigh

Best wishes to all of you.

Banana

JustOneMorePlease · 14/06/2010 18:09

banana87 thinking of you and have everything crossed that next week there is a heartbeat to see.

Hope to see you back with good news soon.

Take care.

Hi everyone. For the past 2 days i felt nauseus and felt really sick all day and night. I havnt been sick yet but really feels like its going to kick in. I never felt this bad with my others.I am going to try not telling anyone untill 12 week scan but my belly already looks swollen so i think im going to have a bump early this time.

suzym1984 · 14/06/2010 18:29

HazB your post could have been written by me! I am EXHAUSTED and felt like I was going to cry at work today. Also, I feel just like I have travel sickness, constant queasiness and stomach churning! And...I have my booking appt tomorrow too! What a coincidence!

cler I too am thinking I might have to tell people at work, as I am feeling so rubbish, no energy and my mind is like mush!

banana Fingeres crossed for you x x

Also, does anyone keep getting a feeling in their tummy like when you have a tummy bug? Sort of a few pains, think you might need to rush to the loo and then it goes? very weird and a bit awkward when at work!

Thinking of you too banana.

Had blood test this morning but haven't heard from doctor yet. I'm 8 hours behind you all so it's around lunch time here! I am absolutely starving as usual. Will update as soon as I hear anything, which being America is usually quite quick.

Honeywitch · 14/06/2010 20:08

Thinking of you, banana87. Suzym1984, YES! And very uncomfortable tummy at night! I've also had to but maternity trousers for work, because I can't bear anything on my tummy and all my jeans and work trousers are too tight. Anyway, I'm a bit embarrassed because I shouldn't need them this early and my partner reckons it's cos I'm a bit fat in the tummy area atm (I'm 11 stone ad should be 9-10) - he's probably right but it's still annoying!

Anyway the clothes are blissfully comfy and I bought a maternity bra from Mothercare and that's really soft and lovely too. I didn't realise they had so many pretty colours there!

clareanna · 14/06/2010 20:46

oh banana I really hope all is ok - good luck

nic - avoid fish oil supplements that are cod liver oil (too much vit a) but DHA / fish oil may be helpful in pg. You're supposed to get your 2 portions a week of oily fish, but morning sickness can sometimes make that impossible. Last pg I couldn't even LOOK at salmon for 9 months...
fish oils are supposed to help with brain development so from 5 months plus you may want to consider them. Quite a few of the preg vits now come with a combined fish oil supplement for this reason - I'm taking the Boots one - hope this helps

Deliaskis CM preg tests give you a no of weeks after conception - so 1-2 weeks from conception, but the doc actually counts from the date when your last period starts (so counts the two weeks before conception when you're not actually PG) I've always found that slightly odd.

re telling parents etc - I told mine last time because I felt so ill and it was over Xmas that they couldn't fail but notice something was seriously up, and I needed their help with DS. Sadly that Pg ended in an MC and I needed their support even more then. I was glad I wasn't in the position where I just had to tell them out of the blue that I'd had an MC, with no warning I'd been pg. My mum would have hated to have thought I'd been through 3 months of something without her knowing or being able to help.
When you are a mum it really changes how you view your relationship with your own mum that's for sure!

earlgreyismynectar · 14/06/2010 20:46

Good luck banana87 thinking of you x

good luck with your results tadjennyp

I hope everyone is feeling ok. Ditto hazB and suzym, I'm shattered & this morning dragged myself out of bed to put the kettle on and was overcome with nausea so went straight back to bed! My uber healthy breakfast of All Bran & fruit (in prep for the constipation!) went out the window as DD's Cheerios seemed like the better option and the pure sugar hit made me feel instantly better (along with a cup of tea). Hope this isn't the start of it. My booking in appt isn't till I'm 10 weeks in mid July! Doubtful I think that I'll have my scan at 12 weeks :-( All depends on each local authority I suppose!

Hope you're all well and welcome to new mama's to be!

debka · 14/06/2010 21:00

Angel don't let anyone make you feel bad about taking the time off work. This baby only gets one chance, as my aunt said to me this evening. You are not being a wuss. Pg is seriously hard work.

Banana how awful to leave you hanging. Thinking of you. xxx

Any other experienced mums know whether you balloon quicker with #2? I can't do ANY of my trousers up now, but cannot possibly wear maternity trousers for 34 WEEKS!!!

suzym1984 · 14/06/2010 21:13

earlgreayismynectar I too had cheerios this morning, shunning the healthy fruit and yoghurt that I had planned! I seem to have to eat what I want, when I want it. I was shovelling cheese and crackers into my gob when I got home from work, half an hour before tea

Honeywitch yes, my tummy is usually worse at night, feel crampy and windy (yuk) and I have also taken to wearing a bra to bed too as my boobies are so sore!

tabbycat76 · 14/06/2010 21:49

Wow what a lot of post to catch up on! I go to work for one shift and I have 18 posts to read! You've all been busy! And welcome to the newbies and much congrats to you!

Banana - really thinking of you. I think it's quite cruel to leave you hanging in limbo for a couple of weeks, like you're not emotional enough than to be worrying about that too! I'm thinking of you and wish everything well.

Honeywitch - I'm suffering with wind STILL and a bloated feeling quite often. I know it's my gut tho and nothing else cos I suffer with IBS but I thought in pregnancy, your digestive system was supposed to slow down and get sluggish, mine seems to be going on overdrive and crampy!

Anyway, I now have a new dilemma - I wonder if anyone is in the NHS and might be able to help me with this. I had a needle stick injury at work Saturday night and although I'm up to date with all my vaccinations I can't help but worry about any affects on my pregnancy. Does anyone know about this?!?!? Maybe I'll just leave it to asking the GP Friday when I make contact and report my pregnancy. It's so worrying me esp when the pregnancy is so early and everything is forming and developing still.

Almost had to tell work about my pregnancy today too - but phew didn't have to. I think if you're sick and nauseous fair enough, but otherwise, no thanks, keep it secret, early days and all.

Still no pregnancy symptoms today - am I really pregnant?!?! The lack of a period suggests so, so perhaps I'm a lucky one, though I did read in my pregnancy book that morning sickness often kicks in from 6 weeks so we'll soon find out! 1 more week of symptom free pregnancy! Yay!

pipsicles · 14/06/2010 22:06

Thinking of you Banana - hope you get good news next time.

I bought a massive mummy bra at the weekend I don't really like it as it's a bit big at the moment - I'm not going to be able to get to town for a few weeks and wanted something that would definately last, but I can appreciate that it's more comfy than being squished in some lacey underwired number!

Finally told my head teacher today, which went better than I'd expected. She's retiring at the end of this term though, so I expect she could be pleased for me because she doesn't have to deal with my mat leave!

Following on from Debka's comment, is anyone finding some clothes tight already? I wore trousers to work today that fitted me fine last week, but I looked three months (or more!) pg today!!! I have had a bit of a tum on me for some time now and think it is more likely to be that than actual baby, but it is a bit of a worry that they are that uncomforatble already! Then I thought it might just be because I'm eating too much, but weighed the same on the scales as last week. I'm quite a tall person too, so kind of thought that my bump would take ages to appear. I don't know, I guess we're all different? Plus (this is a rather embarrassing question coming up, as I fear it should be obvious), does the bump come from your tummy or your groin? All the pictures I have in my book, the woman has her hands over her bump so you can't really see! Sorry if I'm a right thicko - my science gcse seems a long time ago now!!!

Right, I'm going to go hide whilst you all laugh at me!

P xxx

P.S. Are any of you first timers buying father's day cards for your new daddys? I just got a Tigger one today because he is just as excited as me and I want to make him feel just as important. He'll probably tell me I'm silly though!

tabbycat76 · 14/06/2010 22:15

pipsciles - I think a fathers day card is a fab idea, I hadn't even thought about that! When is it? I think I will do the same, it's important to make them feel special too and a part of it.

Re where your bump comes from... you can expect your bump to grow from the bottom of your belly button, like just above the hair line and it'll soon expand up. Does that make sense?!? No question is too weird or silly, isn't that what we're all on here for?!?

I'm finding my pants a bit tighter at the mo, my husband said yesterday that he thought my bum looked bigger, how dare he!!!!! Thought that was a bit uncalled for personally but it's made me wonder now.Not ready just yet to go shopping for bigger pants tho, haha!

loveablebunny · 14/06/2010 22:21

I have clothes that are already too tight :-( hoping the diabetes diet means they won't fit after either if you see what I mean :-)

was wondering where bump emerged too! Have a bit of a belly which dh has decided to start talking to!

Have already bought dh a card, thinking of buying him a pregnancy book for dads to be too or am I too soft?!

Also, is anyone finding they are really emotional? I just blarted all through the glee season finale!

MissTFied · 14/06/2010 23:20

So sorry to hear your news banana87. I really hope they find a heartbeat at your private scan. Maybe the first sonographer was inexperienced?

tadjennyp · 15/06/2010 01:26

Waited all day for the test results but they seem quite pleased with them! Hurray! Hope everyone else has had a great day. I feel a little more relaxed now!
