Hi everyone!

Well, I got my BFP on Friday morning and it is only just starting to sink in! According to my dates I am due 2nd Feb and I thought it would be nice to have a Feb babies thread, where we can all share our news/worries/excitement!

Cant wait to hear from you

My parents left this morning which is really sad as I don't know when I'll see them again. Then we took the dcs to friends' little boy's birthday party at a bouncy castle place. Only my two and next door's two turned up. I know it was hot, but it is poor not to bother RSVPing and not coming.

I'm feeling quite nauseous and like I have to keep eating. Have told my inlaws who seemed quite pleased. That's a relief as I'd imagined they would disapprove as noone in their family has more than 2 dcs. That serves me right for thinking negatively.

Hope everyone has a good day. Am going for a second blood test tomorrow to see if the pregnancy is still viable. I feel it is, but wish me luck, please.

smallblackflowers · 13/06/2010 22:27

I've just found out from the family grapevine that my cousin is pg and also due in Feb. Quite a funny situation as I've not told anyone in my family yet, as when I got a text message from my mum saying - news flash - dc is pregnant, I was very tempted to reply - news flash - so am I. Obviously I didn't as that wouldn't be right

earlgreyismynectar · 13/06/2010 22:45

Good luck tadjennyp I was looking out for you on here after you were feeling rough and bleeding. Hope all is well.

smallblackflowers funny coincidence huh?! Ooo I would have been so tempted to do a right back atcha text there! Good for you exercising control!

Welcome to all of the mid feb mama's!

I'm at the start of the 6th week and feeling whacked, even my muscles ache if I do a staircase! I so need to work on my stamina, yoga at home is do-able! Have an almost permanent queasy feeling & I'm generally off most kinds of food, cups of tea are getting me through! No sickness yet, hope it continues...

Have a great week everyone!

sweetnitanitro · 14/06/2010 08:30

Good luck tadjenny.

Tabby, just spoke to my surgery and they said I could see a GP if I wanted but last time all he did was congratulate me and book me in with the MW so I just gave my details to the receptionist and she's going to book me a MW appt. The MW visits on Mondays at my surgery so presumably it'll be next week which will make me almost 6 weeks. I think that's how far along I was last time.

Just trying to refresh my memory on what foods are verboten. Last time I was told no peanuts but I think that's changed now. Must buy some caffeine-free tea.

Honeywitch · 14/06/2010 08:59

Has anyone told their parents yet? My partner wants me to wait till 1st trimester done (1st August), but I want to tell them sooner... Not sure I can hold out that long!

sweetnitanitro · 14/06/2010 09:14

I've told my mum and dad and we're going to phone the in-laws tonight, but we won't tell anyone else until the first scan. It's nice to have some support in the early stages but it's up to you! It is very hard trying to keep quiet

smallblackflowers · 14/06/2010 09:23

We're planning on telling ours after the viability scan I have booked for next wednesday. Worried that it's going to be a bit of a bombshell as DH's work situation isn't very reliable and am guessing that people will think we ought to wait. I'm 34 though and hoping that this isn't going to be our last, so the clock is ticking.

smallblackflowers · 14/06/2010 09:25

Oh, and I'm feeling very sick today [happy]. Going out to buy a car today, think I need to get it done as guessing that the sickness will get worse before it gets better.

tabbycat76 · 14/06/2010 09:30

Morning mumma's to be!

Thanks sweetnitanitro for letting me know about the GP. I think if that's all the GP does I'll wait till the end of this week when I'm free and let him know then. At least then I can forget about it until I get contacted by the mw.

Foods to avoid/be careful of: if I remember correctly from my midwifery days:

  • no liver
  • no unpasturised egg products like maionnaise
  • not too much oily fish as it has vitamin a in
  • no seafood
  • peanuts are fine unless you have a family history of allergy
  • soft cheeses
  • make sure all chicken and meats are cooked thoroughly

I think that's it. If anyone knows of anything else, please add to the list!

We've not told our parents yet honeywitch. We've confided in only one close friend of mine and everyone else will be told nearer 12 weeks. I'm petrified I'm going to get to my first scan and they say we're sorry but it hasn't grown past ? week. Is that a completely irrational thought or are others feeling that too?

By the way, folic acid girls!! and also Government recommended pregnancy vitmains which contain either less or no vitamin a in. You can't take normal vitamins during pregnancy! Keep off Vitamin A!

Right, enough from me, hope all have a good day!

Grannyapple · 14/06/2010 09:35

Hi folks-just phoned dr's thinking it would take a few wks to get an appt-said they could see me today-was in shock!! I'm still trying to get used to the news!

Anyway I told them it was still early days so now have appt for next Monday morning-now have butterflies as it might all get a bit more real after that!

tabbycat76 · 14/06/2010 09:44

Wow grannyapple - that's quick! Let me know how it goes. I'm going to phone up at the end of the week.... may the reality kick in!

nicb79 · 14/06/2010 09:52

Welcome to sweetnitanitro and rusty06 and the 'due 16th Feb club' (I bet some of us will have our dates changed after the first scan).

Why is it so long until the 12 week scan...feel in limbo.

Does anyone know if you can take cod liver oil/fish oil vitamins in Pg??

Hope the G.P goes well today Grannyapple

Thinking of you today tadjennyp

I'm getting a bit addicted to his discussion page. Its taking over from Facebook for me!

Have a good day everyone. xx

sweetnitanitro · 14/06/2010 10:57

Tabby my main fear for the first scan was that there wasn't going to be anything there at all! It's totally normal to be worried, at this stage when you can't feel the baby moving around or if you don't get any definite symptoms then you can sometimes think the worst. I'm sure it will all be fine though

grannyapple hope your appointment goes well!

angels1 · 14/06/2010 11:10

Hello all,

I went to the Doc this morning - 4 weeks so too early I know, but as I may have mentioned, I've been super worried about dealing with work and sickness together as I was so ill last time (b4 miscarriage)and my job involves food and cooking. Doc has signed me off for the rest of school term (until early/mid July) as she says it will be best to reduce stress for me and give the baby the 'best chance' after mc last time (can stress really cause mc???). I feel like a complete wuss getting signed off when everyone else deals with it and keeps going though.

I now have to tell work. She's written on the form hypermis something or other (servere sickness in pregnancy) so if they can read her dodgy writing and know medical terms, they'll know what's wrong with me, but should I tell them in the initial email I send today to them why I've been signed off? I will need to tell 5 people as a bare minimum, and given I'm only 4 weeks, it seems so early to tell anyone...unsure what to say to them.

caramellokoalalover · 14/06/2010 11:13

Hi there everyone, can I join? I got the faintest of faintest positives on FR last Friday and same again yesterday. And AF is about 3 days late I think, so am assuming I'm pregnant . Still feeling nervous that AF might arrive at any second and am knicker-checking like a nutter .

I've been reading the thread over the weekend, hoping I could join, and there are some lovely stories - congratulations to everyone! Loving the stats too thanks to newdad. I'm a spready nerd as well so right up my alley!

As for the stats: I'm about to turn 32 and have a DS who is 18mths, so this will be no. 2. I had hyperemesis with him, with 10 luvverly visits to the hospital from weeks 6-14 until I found meds to get in under control...although still spewed daily right up to and through delivery, bluerghhh. So I'm happy to be pg but also terrified that I might be the same again.

Oh, and think I am due 22 Feb.

Enough rambling, I'm off to continue feeling alternately queasy, excited and nervous

sweetnitanitro · 14/06/2010 11:18

angels1 not everyone just gets on with it, morning sickness is rubbish and if your job involves working with food then it's best not to do it, partly because of hygiene and partly because it might make you more sick hanging around with food all the time.

caramel Congrats! I had a crappy pregnancy the first time around as well so I'm dreading this one in some ways. The labour is the only part I'm not worried about

caramellokoalalover · 14/06/2010 11:19

Just read your post angels...much sympathy from me. Don't know what to advise about telling people at work. I wouldn't if you can avoid it. Only because I know the reaction I got from my work. Whilst people were sympathetic to my face I think they thought I just couldn't cope with morning sickness, as if I just felt a bit off colour and should eat a cracker or something! That upset me and made me feel crappy about myself, which can't be good for stress levels. If you can avoid all that, then all the better.

So sorry, it's such a horrible situation to be in . Hopefully rest will help though. Will be thinking of you.

angels1 · 14/06/2010 11:36

Oh, and just an afterthought - will I get paid for my 3 weeks I've been signed off for does anyone know? I know you can self cert for a weke without doc note and get paid where I work, but never done anything longer so don't know what happens after that.

And my DH told me they might take the 3 weeks out from my maternity leave later on..I told him this was rubbish but he claims his brother (who is a HT and has had teachers take maternity leave) told him this. I thought this was only the case in the last trimester if you had time off.

I felt so pathetic after telling DH I'd been signed off work. All I got back was 'well, you could try it and see how you go' and 'they will take this out of your maternity leave, are you sure you want to take the time off?' hmmmm, it may be as I'm overemotional but it made me feel stupid and small

caramellokoalalover · 14/06/2010 11:41

I'm not sure about the pay and maternity pay questions, sorry angels, I wasn't in the UK when I took the time off so not sure how it works here. Am sure someone else will come along though. Or try posting a new thread on the pregnancy board and I'm sure someone will know.

That's rubbish that DH is not being more understanding. Try sitting down with him tonight and telliing him how it made you feel. He might get it then and be a bit more sympathetic.

PDR · 14/06/2010 11:47

angels you're right it's rubbish - your BIL is referring to if you go off sick in the few weeks leading up to your mat leave - in this case you can be foced to start your mat leave early.

You'll need to check your employment contract with regard to sick pay but I would have thought if you've been paid for periods of sickness before then you must be entitled to it. There is normally a annual cap on the number of weeks sick pay you are entitled to.If you're not entitled to sick pay through your employer and If you pay enough NI you should be entitled to statutory sick pay (not much though).

angels1 · 14/06/2010 11:50

yes, I'll try that thanks caramellokoalover. Last time I was pg he was like the ideal DH - did everythign for me, lots of cuddles and back massages. Then I had mc. I think he's probably just not wanting to get emotionally involved in this pg yet as he doesn't want to get hurt again. Which I understand. It's just it's easy for him - but hard for me when I'm the one getting all the feelings in my body.

I told my parents this morning and I got an excited response until I said how early I was, then it was just a 'oh, it's too early to get excited yet, we didn't tell anyone about your sister until we were 3 months along'. I just feel so overwhelmingly alone and upset and a weak person today I now keep thinking maybe I should just try work despite the doc telling me not to as it is the best thing for me (

JustOneMorePlease · 14/06/2010 13:24

Hi all..

Thinking of you tadjennyp, hope all goes well.

I am feeling soooo emotional. Have been bursting into tears all weekend. Sad i know, but even cried watching the Peter Andre programme!!!
My little sis went home to Northern Ireland last night I was quite hysterical, she is back in 4 weeks and we speak on the phone a few times a week.!! Think she thought i'd finally lost it!!

Then Ds2 left me his fav teddy to sleep with coz I'd been sad and that set me off again.!!

Consequently look a complete mess, am sure some of the school run Mums are going to guess soon.. there will be no fooling the experts!

Going to the hospital for an appt for Ds1 this afternoon so hope all goes well or i may end up blubbing on the floor!!!!!!!

Booked a dr appt for beg of July when i'm 8 weeks, will need refering for cvs. Then when thats over and hopefully all is well we will really start to enjoy our last preg..

Take care all.xx

claire196 · 14/06/2010 14:02

Hello ladies can I join please? I've been lurking for a while but not wanting to tempt fate. I'm 26 and this is my first, due feb 13th.
Congrats to everyone here, here's hoping we all have an enjoyable trouble-free time of it!
Angels sorry to hear how bad you feel - I think you're doing the right thing taking time off work. you absolutley must not let yourself feel bad for it or pathetic, many women get really sick during pregnancy, just remember what your doc told you, they're the only one qualified to make this judgement after all! maybe try explaining how you feel to DH. Women go through so much to create a little person and sometimes men could do with being reminded! (I've got football rage - cant stand that the tv has been taken over by world cup)

Someone a while back was asking about fish oil - from what I've read you should NOT take normal cod liver oil as this contains high levels of vit A, but you can get fish oil intended for pregnancy. I'm taking a pregnacare vit supplement with fish oil.

angels1 · 14/06/2010 14:23

Thanks Claire 196. I sent the email to work about 45mins ago saying I won't be in for 3 weeks and am yet to receive a response. Will probably feel better when they have acknowledged it and kinda give me the nod that they are OK with it (not that they get a say...), oh, and congrats

I think the 1 good thing with being sick at home is that I'm hoping to be up to watching bits of wimbledon - the only sport that I like watching - I'd have tennis over football any day ;) sadly I don't think I will be able to stomach the strawberries and cream though...

Deliaskis · 14/06/2010 14:48

Hello all,

First post here as just got a surprising (in a good way) +ve Clearblue test this morning. We hadn't really been 'trying', just stopped using condoms and first month have a BFP .

Am confused though, the Clearblue test says 2-3 weeks, but online it says 4-5 weeks, and based on when I think it should have occurred (I was away a bit in the past few weeks so can be pretty accurate about when 'it' happened) I would be 2-3 weeks from conception. Which would be 4-5 weeks from date of last period. Does this sound right?

If so, it is of course very early days yet so I am kind of scared of thinking it's real in case it doesn't last. I think this is where I am confused re implantation because I don't really understand if on the trackers I am 2-3 weeks or 4-5 weeks. it's confusing that there seem to be different ways to track it. Anyway, they are putting me at either DD Feb 10th or 17th depending on what I look at.

But anyway, hooray, I think, getting to this stage was at least easier than I thought it would be...

Hopefully will be able to confirm properly after drs visit this week.

Fingers crossed for you all that all goes well.
D
