opps pressed send before I had finished!

Anything wow that was hot in Cyprus - I have found it a bit too warm here today let alone the kind of heat you were in.

Jacks - saw consultant on fri and the good news is still sinking in - have a section date of 5th October and am so relieved that I haven't stopped grinning all weekend Grin

hope the rest of you have had a good weekend

Jacksmybaby · 15/08/2010 22:42

Hevster that's great news!!! You're the day before me!!! How exciting. Smile

Hevster · 16/08/2010 07:04

Jacks I thought I was the day before you but was too lazy to scroll back and check Grin! feels rather real having an exact date, I seem to have gone into a bit of a get organised mode and have started decluttering the house!

DillyDora · 16/08/2010 12:40

Morning all! Glad everyone is well/cool/has their ELCS date Wink

Remind me what I want raspberry leave tea for? Also...is perineal massage going to hurt? (Says she who has to give birth which IS going to hurt!!!!)

Yummy what were the blood results? Sorry you're in so much discomfort - I remember well the horrible itchy rash I had waaaaay back at about 12 weeks - ugh!

Hello everyone, back from my hols and finally in the 30wk zone! hope all is well, I'm back to work tomorrow but its my birthday so hopefully someones bought me a cake!

PatsyIsPreggers · 16/08/2010 15:18

Hi all

glad to hear everyone is ticking along nicely, except your itching yummy which sounds unbearable. hope the test results come back ok. Also lula, hope the baby turns. Sorry I've got no advice to give you, but I remember reading somehwere about reflexology or some other type of foot massage being quite good.

We've been away for a couple of weeks hence not posting, and now back for the final stretch in work - only 7 weeks to go, and I'm taking every Friday as holiday so quite excited about working 4 day weeks! Grin Now I just need to plan what to do with my lovely days off.

Quite envious of those of you with ELCS dates, as it would be lovely to know what day the LO will arrive, but I think that's just the control freak in me wanting to plan every last detail!

Oh well, should actually go and do some work while I'm still here...

anythingwithagiraffeonit · 17/08/2010 00:59

Hi all..

I have a question for those of you who already have babies, or who know about this kind of thing !

I was buying 0-3 clothes for ages before being told off by my mother for not having any newborn or new baby sized clothes... So I bought some, which on some of the labels say go up to 7.5 lb...

Now i'm being told that our DD is quite big, in the 95th percentile...

Are all the newborn sleepsuits a complete waste now?

thanks :p I am so clueless!

xx

JazzieJeff · 17/08/2010 09:18

Hi everyone!

I'm supposed to be online sorting out our car and life insurance, but I got really peeved with that really fast so I decided to come on here instead. Good option!

anything I got loads of 0-3 months bits and bobs and only a few newborn babygros. In some places they do things in 'up to 1 month' as well. My thinking behind it was that even if he comes out a bit on the chubby side... well, not to put too finer point on it but he's going to be a bit squished up for a few days from the whole birthing process anyway isn't he? Alternatively, keep the tags on all bar one newborn item, then if your DD doesn't fit her things then you can always get someone to take all the other items back and exchange them for bigger sizes. I was 7lb 7oz when I was born and my Mum said she was folding back the sleeves on my newborn sleepsuits for a few days because I was all squashed up like a parcel Grin

lula hope your baby turns for you, you've got a while to go yet though haven't you? I've heard of people sitting in certain yoga positions to help the baby engage, maybe you could check it out online?

Dilly raspberry leaf tea is a uterine tonic and helps tone the muscles to supposedly make your contractions in the active phase of labour stronger, and more effective. My friend tried it with her first baby when she was born a few months back and that's how I heard about it. She said that the midwife realised that she'd gone to 10cm dilated really quickly, and told her to get on the bed and lay down because she was standing over the bed to keep active at the time. Anyway, my friend says; 'ok, I'll just have this next contraction and then I'll get on the bed', and in that next contraction her baby's head was born. She still had her knickers and a t shirt on apparently! Now, she told me she didn't know how much of that was down to the raspberry leaf tea, but she did say the her active phase of labour was really short. It was her first baby and the midwives were expecting her to take a LOT longer, hence why they left her and didn't realise she was fully dilated until she was there. She also said the contractions felt like they did the work for her, she didn't really try to push it just happened on its own. So there you go... I don't really know if it'll work for me, or anyone else but it's got to be worth a try Wink

Hope everyone has a good day Smile

babybunting2010 · 17/08/2010 09:32

Morning all,

Haven't been on here for a few days and my how active we have been! :)

Hev- Glad you have your date set and things (Also very jealous!)

Saartjie- Any news on flights?

Jazzy- Long time no see! (Waves) I thought we weren't meant to take Raspberry leaf tea until a certain amount of weeks??? (Am often wrong so please ignore me if I am!) Is there anything else that's worth doing?

Can't remember who said about the perenial massage thing, but got given a leaflet at my active birth class about it, but been too scared to read it yet!

Anything- We are nearly the 100th percentile now according to yesterdays scan (Have been booked in for another one at 36 weeks and am hoping to God that they will induce!) Baby already weighs 5lb 6oz!!!!! OUCH! But you will still need a couple of newborn suits so would say to use them at the hospital, don't forget they stretch as well! But I would ask anyone who is looking to buy you stuff to get outfits for 3-6 months and above otherwise you'll be inundated with stuff that you only use once! (Once again could be wrong here, this is just what I am doing!)

Feeling a tad fed up at the moment, think I am just exhausted and fed up of being in limbo, not able to start new life as baby not here yet and old life is far too tiring! :(

Moan over I promise!

In other news, packed my hospital bag/s at the weekend, so feels very exciting now!

Will be out purchasing raspberry leaf tea at lunch time I think, any other suggestions much appreciated! :)

xxx

DillyDora · 17/08/2010 10:41

Morning! Right you are then, raspberry leaf tea it is. And ...ulp...perineal massage...

Cor nice big baby Babyb hope they induce at a reasonable point.

I've still got sigh 9 weeks to go till my due date....ho hum...suddenly getting much bigger, and much more breathless (though this may well be due to my mat bras being too small Hmm)

No news from yummy .... Hope she's ok.

Jacksmybaby · 17/08/2010 10:50

Morning everyone.

Re clothes sizes, IMO it's nice for vests (the kind with poppers at the crotch) to fit quite snugly, also the fit of them obviously doesn't depend on the length of your baby's limbs, so I would get quite a few of those in newborn size. With sleepsuits it doesn't matter if they're a bit big, but they will squash baby's legs up if they're too small IYSWIM, so better to only get a couple in newborn size and mostly go with 0-3m for those.

Have taken my own advice and am putting together my emergency hospital bag today! (The aim, as I've said before, being to have a SMALL carriable bag with just the absolute essentials in case you need to get to hospital quickly and/or on your own.)

In case anyone is interested here's what's going in mine:

cash, hospital notes, small pack maternity pads, small pack nappies, small pack wipes, 2x ready-to-use formula filled bottles, 2x baby vests, 1x sleepsuit, 2x BIG granny knickers, tracksuit bottoms and long-sleeved t-shirt.

DillyDora · 17/08/2010 10:52

Cheers Jacks re maternity pads - I was in Boots yesterday and couldn't find them ...what am I missing? Are they in a secret place?!

Jacksmybaby · 17/08/2010 10:53

They are usually with the baby stuff (nappies etc) not with the normal sanitary towels, tampons etc.

babybunting2010 · 17/08/2010 10:59

Yeah I got a load from Mothercare, they actually have a set which is specifically for the first week afer having the baby!

I packed mine on Sunday, was very exciting seeing all the teeny clothes again! Need to go get some more money ready to pay for the car parks etc...

x

DillyDora · 17/08/2010 11:06

Cheers Lovely, I kept coming upon the Tena Lady and running away...

How many weeks are you guys?! I'm only 30 weeks and haven't even washed Toby's clothes yet (in fact most of them are still in John Lewis' warehouse!)

Jacksmybaby · 17/08/2010 11:14

Keep doing your pelvic floors and hopefully the tena lady will never be needed! Grin

31+5 today.

DillyDora · 17/08/2010 11:19

OK, I need to get organised then (and not just with my pelvic floor....)

Jenko77 · 17/08/2010 11:37

I'm 31+5 too, and blooming knackered. I had hoped it was just a blip last week, but am officially still shattered. Still have just short of 6 weeks working/commuting to get through. Thinking of bottling out early though.

Re hospital bags: I'm planning on BF, should I take a couple of bottles just in case I can't for any reason? Also, I read that with maternity pads, you need about 24 for the first couple of days, and about 48 for the first week - yikes Shock!!

I've also been saving pound coins like mad for the hospital car park over the past couple of weeks.

DillyDora · 17/08/2010 11:51

Jenko me too, I am shaky leg tired... trying to wfh as much as I can.

RooBear · 17/08/2010 11:58

i'm 30wks too dilly and have done nothing getting panicky now as your all so organised! I'm getting the cot and dresser on bank holiday weekend and the car seat and pram too. Then I'll start washing clothes and packing the hospital bag. I have 8wks of work left (sigh)...

KFW · 17/08/2010 11:59

Hi ladies

I am 30+4. Had GP appointment this morning and all seems to be growing which is good.

I am also really tired and not sure how I am going to get through almost 8 weeks more work!

I haven't started on the hospital bag yet, or perineal massage (ewwwww, but I guess if it might help it's worth doing!).

We are still buried in plaster dust and I am wondering when it will end. After 4 more weeks of this I will be going mad! At least it means that home isn't actually any more appealing than being at work!

Jenko bottles/formula etc is a really tricky one.

Firstly it's worth finding out if your hospital will provide them if you can't/end up deciding not to BF. Mine doesn't.

Secondly if you are planning to give BF a good go then you need to decide whether the "back-up" of having formula will be more likely to be a comfort to you and help you carry on trying to BF knowing you have a back-up, or whether it's likely to make you give up "too easily" and later regret it. It's such a minefield and a very, very emotive and personal subject!

Thirdly, don't forget you can always send your DP/family members etc out to buy stuff after the birth if you need to.

(FWIW, after a really negative experience trying and failing to BF last time I am thinking about not even attempting to this time hence the bottles. But that's just my experience and I'm in no way suggesting this is what I think others should do etc!)

DillyDora · 17/08/2010 12:38

Good point on the BF/bottle thing Jacks also I have really noticed this sensation of OMG how will I get anything I need after the baby comes?! I am even scoping out which local pharmacies have which products Blush need to chill out and remember DH has done this before, er...and so has my mum so....
