Morning all,
Just had my 31 week check up! SOOOOOO Excited now as she has just told me that the chances are that I will be being induced at 38 weeks! Which actually means I am imposing on this thread as it might well be September! Am like a kid at Christmas keep smiling don't know why 2 weeks makes that much of a difference! But just really excited that I get to meet my little girl! Quite spooky as I always said that I thought she might be born on my Mums Birthday!

Have asked one of my friends to come join us on this site so big waves if she does join us! :)

Saartjie- Moving in 16 days can't get over how quickly that comes really good luck if we don't speak to you before you go and KIT!

xxx

YummyMummy1208 · 10/08/2010 12:30

yea me too Jenko77, suddenly tired again which is slightly frustrating as it seems id only just stopped being tired all the time!

We went to a car boot sale the weekend and managed to get a few nice things - a baby sling and a baby bath seat - a real nice pink one so i was quite happy with myself! - so much infact that we have arranged for my mum to watch DS1 whilst i go with OH this weekend again as bless him DS was so bored - we bought him a toy lawn mower thing which he pushed around happily but wouldnt actually let us stop to look at anything on the stalls as he's be off down the way mowing the grass!

Any reply's on the breast pump thing - electric or manual, what do you think ladies?

babybunting2010 · 10/08/2010 12:37

I went with Manual as it felt less like a milking machine! But think it's much of a muchness and is just easier if it's electric!

Hevster · 10/08/2010 12:48

BabyB I would be excited too if there was any possibility of DD2 coming early Envy have second opinion with a consultant on Fri to beg for c-sect so panicing at the mo and frantically trying to prepare my arguments.

Raining here too and no ideas about the breast pumps as I bottle fed DD and will bottle feed DD2

JazzieJeff · 10/08/2010 12:52

Aaaah! Thank goodness for Mumsnet, was starting to get slightly concerned about the level of flakiness taking over my nipples... anyone know what it is? At first I thought it was my over - zealous cake baking in the kitchen last week and that I'd just got a bit of flour down my top... what is it though?

yummy I've got a Madela swing electric one, my friend recommended them because when she had her prem baby, they had one in the hospital and they loaned it to her... she said it was really effective and gentle. Also, in my head I had visions of being able to do it in front of Eastenders and plug myself in Grin

On my summer break at the moment, and then starting my maternity leave straight after that so I've finished work now until mid - March. I'm so bored already, there's only so many times you can clean things...

Not been on here for ages, we've moved house just last week and I also have a bit of a problem... in all the mayhem I totally forgot to book myself a midwife appointment at 28 weeks. I was feeling fine, and to be honest it being Cornwall, they don't take bookings at the doctors until two weeks before because I don't think they have a computer system for booking you in i.e. it's all done on paper. Anyway, totally forgot about the whole thing in amoungst the move and racing to get stuff done at work before I left on leave. Now I'm almost 32 weeks and I'm too embarrassed/scared to book myself in again, in case the midwife thinks I'm a total incompetant mother. She's a bit scary as it is, and I'm feeling a bit low at the moment so the last thing I want is to be told off... Hmm Any ideas off anyone? Feeling rather rubbish actually and I can't place it Confused

YummyMummy1208 · 10/08/2010 13:58

My midwife just rang me to arrange my 28wk check - dont all midwives do this? Sounds like i should be really lucky with our midwife unit here as everywhere else seems either too busy to fit you in or just doesnt have that special touch - like ringing me to arrange my appointments etc.

im not seeing the midwife now until 34 weeks (second baby) so by the time i get to that point itl almost be over! (yay!) or maybe not as ill no doubt have a horrendous next year coming up if shes anything like DS1! I am praying she will be the total opposite to him - not that he was all bad, just wouldnt sleep thru properly until around 2yrs, we thought it a good night if i got out of bed 3 or 4 times in a night up until he was 1 to 1.5 so i was slightly zombie looking seen as i was working and doing my maths degree all at the same time! lol

Hopefully second time round will be much easier and she will sleep like most 'normal' babies do! Even if she is more hard work during the day ill take it as long as i get my sleep back soon!

I had a manual pump last time round and it was fine but i just remember my hand aching so bad from pumping all the time! i would buy a second hand one off ebay if i bought electric cos theyr so expensive brand new if im only using it for a few months. Might go have a look at that Madela one if i get chance..

Hevster · 10/08/2010 18:42

Jazzie wondered where you had got to, welcome back and be brave, take the plunge and phone to make an apptmnt with the scary midwife. Know how you feel, I really don't like mine and when I turned up this morning for my apptmnt she didn't have me on the list - was so tempted to say thats fine and do a runner but managed not to! You will be fine and just think, we don't have many more appointments to go to and then you never have to see her again!

yummy DD still doesn't sleep through on a regular basis and she is 3 in Oct! Normally it is only once a night but last night she was up from 11:30 - 02:30 and I struggled to stay patient whilst removing imaginary animals from her room!!!!

DillyDora · 11/08/2010 13:38

Hi All,

Welcome back Jazzie! Hope the new house is lovely. Thanks for the breast pump recommendations, ladies. I'm a bit low/tired/teary as well for the first time (well, I was tired the first 4 months!). I'm off work this week but just totally overwhelmed - a friend has just been staying with her toddler and baby, lovely but so much work! And so much cleaning and washing and they were only here 2 nights! And now loads of social things for the rest of the week, including shopping with my stepma in John Lewis tmrw and I am dreading all of it! I sound so ungrateful but I just feel completely overwhelmed (and so do my ankles which have swollen right up!). Sad Humph, don't know what's the matter with me...

Hey, I never thought there could be such a thing as flaky nipple envy...that's very Confused!

KFW · 11/08/2010 17:57

Hi girls and welcome back jazzie.

I think I am a bit hormonal today. I decided to risk it in the AIBU section. (why?!) No one seems to agree with me, but I have - so far - avoided personal attacks Smile and to be honest it's all a bit of a joke anyway. I hope they don't start being mean though!

Hevster / yummy - Please don't mention children not sleeping through the night. I don't want to think about that today!

x

JazzieJeff · 11/08/2010 21:18

Hiya girls,

dilly nothing's the matter with you. I've been up and down myself this past week; if I'm around people then I'm annoyed by them, but if I'm alone then I'm whining that I'm lonely!

KFW don't forget, everyone's babies are different... yours will probably sleep through now you've said that Grin Also, it's probably different when it's your own. What's your topic on AIBU? I'll go and give you some moral support, I'm unreasonable myself most of the time so we can be unreasonable together

I don't know about anyone else, but there's a few of my friends who's kids I find seriously irritating. They're raising Holy hell and their Mums are just like 'oh look, he's pulling that little girl's hair/running around in little circles screaming... isn't he the cutest?' Hmm

Yummy your midwife unit sounds lovely, I think mine have time warped in from the 60's... Confused

DillyDora · 12/08/2010 08:57

Hiya, thanks for the support Smile KFW you're brave going on AIBU! I too am unreasonable so you're in good company.

Jazzie if you've been baking how come we haven't had any cake, eh?!

O and yes, I do find other people's children really annoying sometimes no matter how much I love my friend - was having such a laugh about this yesterday with a mate who has 2 small children - she understood me completely

Saartjie · 12/08/2010 10:24

Morning,

Arghh, so can I have a moan. Just heard on the news that they are balloting for strike action at 6 uk air ports for the bank holiday weekend. As we are due to fly out to SA on the 26th Aug, if the strike goes ahead we will most certainly be affected. I really did not need this extra stress and worry now. Checking the news online every 5 mins as the results of the vote should be made public sometime today! I am so sick of all these strikes. I know it's a right bla bla but it does my head in. Keeping fingers crossed. End of moan for now.

YummyMummy1208 · 12/08/2010 11:06

Morning! I have actually been busy at work thismorning - thanks to moaning like hell yesterday that i was bored but now my work is done and i have nothing to do but to sit on here talking to u guys Grin what a shame!

I actually got to lie in all the way to 8am thismorning! it was one of those 'do u think he's ok?' moments with OH as DS1 is rarely ever asleep past half 7. but then my SIL did the whole 'ur always bigger second time around' thing about me being huge and now im pissed off again! No ur bloody not always bigger second time around! argh! I wish people would just shut the heck up commenting about my size. I want to just be able to enjoy my pregnancy not be worried all the time i have to compare to how i was 1st time around when quite frankly im not bigger than i was first time round - everyone has just forgotten! Angry

So thats my moan over for thismorning, 7 weeks left at work, again this week has flown by which is good. mind u, the thought of being home alone with 2 of them under 3 is quite overwelming right now...i have another 10 weeks to get used to that idea i suppose!

TizzyNo1 · 12/08/2010 14:23

Hello! Haven't been on for yonks - how is everyone?

It was me blathering about the bra extenders - anawiz do em, through Amazon I think...bubs has moved down a bit now so feeling less need.

Been getting stuck into NCT classes and breastfeeding workshops etc - fun fun fun!

Bit pre-occupied by the fact that my bosoms (ooer matron) haven't changed in size at all, never been very tender and don't look any different - does this mean they might not be changing and therefore not producing milk?! Sad Has anyone had similar? I may have had a bit of colostrum (looks dry though, apologies for TMI!) but I'm not sure...any thoughts gratefully received pleased!! xxx

JazzieJeff · 12/08/2010 14:26

Hiya girls!

Saartjie Sorry to hear about your flight troubles... I'm pretty sure though that BA have to find you a replacement flight within a reasonable time, I heard something on the news last time they were on strike. Might be worth getting in contact with someone at the company and seeing if you can find out what your rights are? That sucks though, it must be the last thing you need Sad

Yummy I sympathise entirely. People seem to think you're public property, don't they? I mean, I was in a shop this morning buying a thousand boxes of raspberry leaf tea and the woman behind the counter informed me (very confidently, I might add) that I was 'small for my dates'. Cheers love. Cue loads of worrying and half the morning googling tips on how to measure your bump at home.

My Mum also sent me a text saying she thought I 'looked pale' when she saw me last weekend, and that I should get myself out in the garden on the sunlounger Confused Yeah, thanks for that... so when junior comes along I'll get him under the sunbeds and get him tanned up to the max, shall I? Just to stop him looking pale... This coming from the woman who slathers herself in baby oil and goes and sits in the back garden to bake for 6 hours.

Ok, rant over Blush I feel better now...
[goes back to slurping raspberry leaf tea] Wink

FutureMum · 12/08/2010 16:35

Hi Saartje,
Sorry to hear about your strike problems, I can sympathise because when we last went on hols overseas I was four months pregnant and with terrible MS - and we caught the BA strike on the way out & the volcanic ash on the way back. The airline had to put us up for four nights (inc. meals) in a very nice hotel because there were no flights available at the time, so it's worth talking to someone in the airline & push for your rights. Make sure they look after you!
Yummy Mummy - I started with a tiny bump that has grown quite large since mid June at a very fast pace, cue lots of people making comments, or talking to me but looking sneakily at bump. I tend to try very hard and ignore them... it's only a temporary thing. To be honest, I am quite surprised that for someone who is usually concerned about her weight, I have been quite relaxed about the whole bump/ weight issue. Only thing is that it feels a bit heavy when I try to sleep or slouch on sofa.
Six weeks and a bit and counting, feeling v. impatient, has anybody else started their Parentcraft classes?

DillyDora · 12/08/2010 16:35

Hiya, just a quick update - dreaded shopping trip with stepma as actually fine - she was v restrained and we actually have loads of the same views about babies, baby stuff and parenting Shock Have been sooo spoiled - have buggy now AND bouncy chair, changing mat, some sleep suits and muslins - so spoilt, what a bonus.

Saartje sorry about the strike - it will put the kaibosh on our trip to Germany as well - bah. Bit much when you're trying to emigrate though.

Re the size issue yummy and Jazzie seriously, it's like people have Tourettes and they literally cannot help commenting, it happens to me all the time, I don't even let them finish the sentence now. Seriously, bump size doesn't even predict baby size! Only a scan can do that! Leave it to your mw to monitor it. So sorry though as I know what a pita it is.

Hevster · 12/08/2010 20:51

woman in Waitrose told me I looked small for my dates and I was feeling so huge I could have snogged her, but thats just how I feel today, on another day I may well have been tempted to thump her.

Saw senior midwife today to talk through previous birth and can happily report that she was not a bootfaced biffa and was actually fairly sypathetic and listened to me Shock off to see consultant tomorrow am so will now spend the night sweating about that.

Dilly glad the shopping went well, I got carried away and this week invested in nappy buckets, a few reuseable nappies (what a f*ing minefield they are) and randomly a quilt that can't be used until age 1!

Saartje pisser about the strikes, hope they resolve the issues before you need to go and can't believe the time has come for you to go already - it's so quick.

Saartjie · 13/08/2010 09:08

Thanks all. Well none the wiser really. Apparently they will not give any definite dates until possibly Monday (idiots). Just spoke to my airline to find out what their procedures are in these sort of circumstances. All they could tell me was that they were waiting for the dates and until then they did not know what their policies would be? Ridiculous. So I have resigned to the fact that I will have to spend the whole weekend worrying about this. Keeping my fingers crossed that the strike will not go ahead or if it must then that it will start after I've left. We were supposed to spend the weekend seeing friends and saying good bye but now I just feel like spending the weekend under my duvet feeling a bit sorry for myself:(

Off to midwife appointment this afternoon so fingers crossed all is as it should.

KFW · 13/08/2010 10:03

Hevster - I am pleased the midwife was OK. Good luck with the consultant. I am sure it will all be fine.

Saartjie - I really feel for you. It's the last thing you need on top of everything else when you are pregnant. However, if I were you I would try and ignore it. you will drive yourself mad being on hold listening to music and trying to get through to someone. Further, in my experience, once you do actually get through to someone they usually just give you some flannel (probably drafted by their lawyers, which I know you'll understand!) to keep you quiet without actually telling you anything. I know it isn't much help, but I'd sit tight for now. If you want to look into alternative travel providers, you could do that, but I really wouldn't stress yourself out with your airline. These things often get resolved at the 11th hour anyway. You will be fine. You will get there and it isn't the end of the world if it is a day or so later is it? (Not tying to be unsympathetic - trying to be constructive)

Chin up love. I bloody hate strikes too (recognising of course the need to permit them in a free society etc etc) Smile

I hope everyone has a good Friday. I started celebrating the weekend early by having a pie and chips for lunch yesterday and then I went and spent £11.50 on chocolate Shock Not eaten it all yet though. Obviously Grin

YummyMummy1208 · 13/08/2010 12:55

Well what an evening i had after work last night!...a huge red rash has now appeared all over my belly from the constant itching which has been getting worse over the last few weeks so i popped to midwife just to check it was ok to have this rash, she said it looks fine but go see doctor to get some cream for the itching.
So off i went to the doctors for him to say the dreaded sentance ... 'now ill need to take some bloods...shall we do this today?' absolute horror runs through my body - this is me, who hates needles that much the midwife jokes my blood is like gold - when she gets some out of me its a rarety!, i only had my 28 week bloods done a week ago and usually need a good few weeks to prepare myself for needles...i had about 2 minutes before he shoved in a horribly huge needle into my arm with no kind/reassuring words like i normally get from the one midwife whos allowed to take my blood, just shoves sed huge needle in and steals my blood. Sad so i was totally traumatised last night and now have the worry of waiting for the results as it may be obstetric cholestasis, a liver condition which can cause baby problems. Im sure it isnt but still worrying.

Needless to say i went home and got as much sympathy as i could out of my OH, then had a horrendous nites sleep as the itching just kept me awake for 80% of it. not looking forward to tonight as it gets worse each day.

Other than that - its Friday (yay!) which means i have 2 whole days with my baby boy, not sure what we will do tomorrow mind.

Hope everyone is having a nice Friday...thanks for listening to my woes! Grin

Hevster · 13/08/2010 20:13

Poor you Yummy I had mass itching in my last pregnancy and it was hideous. All they could do was give me piriton and tell me to keep my moisturiser in the fridge!
saartjie joping you manage to gain some pleasure from the weekend, fingers crossed that all will be well
KFW oh pie and chips and chocolate - sounds good, I sampled the new milky bar with biscuit and raisins today and it was good!

Jacksmybaby · 15/08/2010 17:17

Sorry to hear everyone's woes.

Yummy I HATE needles too but in some ways it's better if you don't have time to work yourself up into a state about it beforehand! If I ever see a GP who says I need to book a blood test I always beg them to just do it there and then instead.

Hevster did u see consultant on Friday? How did it go?

Saartjie it must be so stressful worrying about this flight, do hope it gets sorted.

Had a sort of unofficial goodbye do on Friday at work as although I have 2 more weeks left almost all my colleagues will be away on annual leave until Sept now. Have spent the weekend feeling a) pretty sad to say goodbye to work friends for a long while and b) suddenly terrified as it's made me realise how close it all is!!! My DH must think I'm mad as I keep bursting into tears for no apparent reason Sad.

anythingwithagiraffeonit · 15/08/2010 19:50

Hi everyone!

Kt's getting very close now isn't it - with people leaving work etc :)

I just got back from 2 weeks in cyprus and am so thankful to be home!! One day it reached 46 degrees and I thought I was going to die.. it was all I could do to just sit on the pool steps all day long :p

Then they questioned me getting on the flight home, even though I had a letter!!

Anyway!

Hope everyone is okay! 32 weeks almost now, but measuring 34 :S

Is anyone else going to do perineal massage / raspberry leaf tea?

xx

Hevster · 15/08/2010 22:34

Raspberry leaf tea is gross!
