Hi all,

Just back from the Hospital! Isabelle was just being a lazy girl and scaring me! All is well heart beat nice and strong, was strapped to the Monitor for an hour to check she was ok!

Just totally wound myself up! Oh and to top it off after about 30 mins on the machine she started kicking like a trooper! :S

Was a little embarrassed but over the moon that she is ok!

Thanks for being there all!

*lulabelle8 a boy - hurrah, sorry about the crappy health issues, pregnancy is pooh innit!

babybunting2010 · 09/07/2010 09:05

Hi all,

Well not sure if LO is just having a lazy time as she still isn't moving much. Haven't really slept and everyone round me keeps telling me to stop being silly as if I can help but worry! Pregnancy is rubbish! Feel rubbish.

Lulabelle- congrats for your little boy! The health issues sound horrid but hey only a few more weeks left! Well a couple of months but even so light at the end of the tunnel!

Hopefully going to be able to concentrate on work today can't wait for the weekend now though it's been a long week!

xxx

DillyDora · 09/07/2010 09:30

Hi babyb great news about your result yesterday - did they say anything about what it means if LO doesn't move much? Or, if you phone the MW now will she be able to reassure you?

COngrats on your boy lulabelle! Sorry about the cysts and all. I was talking to a woman at yoga yesterday who told me she'd gained 2 and a half stone and honestly, it must be all bump as apart from the bump there's nothing of her! Sorry about the SPD - ugh

KFW · 09/07/2010 14:18

Hey babyb. Mine was a real wriggler and puncher and then didn't for a while, which made me freak out (and I came on here about it). Now she has some very active days (and nights) and some very lazy ones too. I was told not to worry about it. In fact, I have realised that I think she spins round and kick inwards sometimes which is much harder to feel. If you are worrying, you could get a doppler? I have used an angel sounds one (£30 from amazon) and have managed to find the heartbeat very easily each time. Very reassuring if you are a worrier like me. DH loves it too.

I am signing off now as going on holiday for two weeks

Lulabelle I hope all health issues magically disappear whilst I am away.

Hugs to all!

DillyDora · 10/07/2010 17:48

Hey there,

I am finding my little man is a bit lazier in this heat... don't know why.

OK...copied from the other thread here is something v useful I heard yesterday:
wanted to share this bit of wisdom with you. we met up with friends last night, one of whom is an obstetrician and, after telling me I look radiant (why thank you!) commenting on my small bump (sigh, people just can't help themselves) he told me this, which bears out what I'd heard from some mws.

If you want a natural birth and really don't want interventions, you need to manage as much of the first stage of labour as possible at home because once you're admitted to hospital you're on their clock and if you don't 'progress' at the rate that they have decided is medically appropriate (and is the same for everyone) then the interventions will begin. So...why not hire or buy a TENS machine to use at home? He said it's a really good idea to help manage the pain and helps you buy time. By all means of course if you're worried or just in too much pain of course go to hospital but a lot of women go and get sent home, and he was saying if you really don't want intervention then go home and wait a while. He reckons you can hire TENS machines online from boots.

I thought this was such a helpful bit of advice for anyone wanting to go the natural route at their local birth centre that I'd pass it on...

balletmoo · 12/07/2010 14:03

Afternoon all! How are we doing today? I'm working from home because I've suffered terrible heat exhaustion over the last few days and I just couldn't move this morning...

I've been trying to decide what buggy / travel system to get but the decision still remains unmade. Soooooo unprepared!!

x

babybunting2010 · 12/07/2010 15:34

Afternoon all,

Hope you are well. The MW just basically said that they go through little periods of movement and the more used to them we are the less likely we are to pay attention to the little kicks and things! But all in all nothing to worry about. She is now wriggling like mad and I love every second of it!

Think I might end up being a slightly over reactive mother if I am not careful.

Hi Balletmoo, don't think I've met you before, so to speak! we went to a big mothercare and tried them all out, the people in the stores are so helpful that they can answer pretty much any question!

It's very quiet on here all of a sudden! Think we need to liven it all up! So.... A question for you all.....

What are you most looking forward to with your new DS/DD????

1.) Our first Christmas as a family! Even though she is going to know nothing about what's going on! It makes me want to cry with emotion when I even think about it!!!!

RooBear · 12/07/2010 15:38

hello guys, been away for a few days. I can't wait for christmas this year bb I get choked up too, esp. as its the first child in our family full stop. (well since me anyway!)

babybunting2010 · 12/07/2010 15:48

Same here on DH's side of the family, so they are all dead excited. I have 7 neices and nephews though so on my side there has been quite a few children round about but doesn't change it for me!

Does anyone else have really sore nipples every now and then????

x

balletmoo · 12/07/2010 17:00

Ooooo yes, Christmas!! I was just talking to my Mum about it. There are some "family politics" to resolve, but I'm determined that nothing at all is going to spoil my little boy's first Christmas!!

And Babybunting2010: Yes!! I also have REALLY sore nipples!! A lot, in fact!! Driving me nuts...

x

Hevster · 12/07/2010 18:19

I have been waiting for Christmas since I found out I was pregnant - will be the first time DD1 (nearly 3) will get the whole build up thing, we will have DD2 and she will still be a novelty to the family, no one will expect me to cook the lunch for 14 due to new baby (1st year off since 2004) and I can go out with the girls and drink!

no sore nipples but they do itch sometimes and I have also remembered that they will prob start to leak in a month or so!

JazzieJeff · 12/07/2010 18:31

Hi all! babyb, glad to hear all was well with your little girl after last week's fright.

Dilly my baby's been really slow recently as well and I think it's the heat. Yesterday all I got were little flutters from about 3 o clock onwards, although that's not such a shock; he usually doesn't bother until about midday when lunch comes on the scene. A few more digs in the ribs today but only because I was leaning forwards hope this is a sign on things to come

Good advice about the TENS machine, I was thinking of buying one because they're not much more to buy than to hire from a lot of places and well, I heard you can use them to help with afterpains too.

babyb my nipples get really sore at the most random times; it feels like an ache. It always happens in the yoghurt aisle at the supermarket

I'm definately looking forward to Christmas; I can't wait to show him the tree and the house all lit up so prettily! DH went out and bought a cot mobile for small yesterday, and when he showed me how it wound up and played a little 'plinky plonky' tune I got all teared up

DillyDora · 13/07/2010 08:26

Hi All,

Yes, we're really looking forward to Christmas too - have told the family outright that we'll be staying at home and people are welcome to visit but don't expect Christmas dinner!

Just recovering from horrible stomach bug, threw up all day yesterday and just feel grim. I can't remember ever being sick like that before in my life! Also been diagnosed with SPD so I'm a bit in the wars

Ha ha yes I get sore nipples too, I told DH they felt like they'd been shut in a door and for some reason that just cracked us up

Saartjie · 13/07/2010 10:10

Hi all,

Been off line for a while.

Baby girl is kicking like crazy still although I do have days when I don't feel her at all. I think this depends upon how she is laying.

I am also looking forward to Christmas. Although it will be a hot Christmas by the pool I am still looking forward to sharing it with DH and our new baby. My mother in law usually prepares a wonderful Christmas bbq with lots of sea food and the whole family comes around so yes I cannot wait.

Starting to find it difficult to move around. It feels like wherever I turn the bump is in the way. Going for my 25 week check up on Thursday, fingers crossed all is ok. This will be my last check up before we leave and my GP will hopefully sign my 'fit to fly' health certificate.

We finally bought a baby sling/carrier, the Baby Bjorn Air one, I love it. All my friends who have had babies have used one and say that it is fantastic.

My parents are coming to visit in two weeks. Haven't seen them for 6 months (we live in different countries) so really looking forward to that.

How is everyone?

YummyMummy1208 · 13/07/2010 15:51

I have just bought a TENS machine on ebay - a Mama TENs unit which is supposed to be quite a good one- it better be been as i paid £30 for it! and i do agree u may as well buy one second hand and then sell it on after using it to make some of ur money back as to hire they cost around £25, wen u can get them on ebay for the same price.
I used one in my last labour tho - in those first hours at home and i dont think i would have got thru labour the same without it. it didnt cross my mind not to get one second time round.

I am really excited about Christmas, altho we cant decide whoes parents to have dinner at his or mine, as its our last christmas before moving to Canada we cant decide what to do! i was originally planning on cooking (before i knew i was pregnant!) and was really excited about it being DS1's best christmas so far as he will be nearly 3 and will be all excited himself about his presents..bit phased by the thought of having a newborn to contend with as i dont want the attention taken from my little boy being his first proper Christmas but i cannot wait to put her in a cute little christmas outfit on the day! i already have a cute pink dress to put her in, and i bet she will have about 3 outfits just for Christmas day!

ive been having stomach pains today - and a few twinges thismorning which had me wondering thismoring what it could be. ofcourse im presuming its normal pregnancy pains but i do like to worry myself. the stomach ache has gone now but its so hard to walk around today - as tho i have sat at a buffet and eaten around 10 plates of food and cannot fit another thing in there u know?
i am planning on buying a breast pump soon...altho i dont know wether to buy an electric one or a manual one - any recommendations?

DillyDora · 13/07/2010 16:16

Hi yummy it's really good to hear all this stuff about the TENS machines, that they were such a help and all.

Maybe the tummy thing is wind? It can be so so uncomfortable. Hope you feel better soon.

YummyMummy1208 · 13/07/2010 16:36

i thought i would add i did actually have the tens machine strapped to me throughout the whole labour - all 26 hours of it! not just thge first stages, i just increased the level as the contractions got worse.

Helped so much i would recommend it to anyone.
i dont know what it is but christ i feel so uncomfortable! 15 weeks to grow yet aswell!

babybunting2010 · 13/07/2010 16:37

Hi All,

Saartjie, I am so with you on the hard to move around thing! I am really struggling now and Yummy, I often feel like you are describing and after a bit of belching (Sorry tmi) it seems to calm down, or randomly it might be where little one is sleeping and when she moves off whatever it was she was sitting on I suddenly feel more relieved. I keep getting a really sharp pain down by the top of my right leg which I asked the MW about and she just basically said get used to it! (Not quite like that! Obviously!)

I think I will start doing some TENS Investigation as tbh thought it was all a bit of a con didn't realise they actually worked!

I have purchased my reusable nappies now, they arrived last week and I have to say they are sooooo cute! I am not pressuring myself into only using reusables but will use as much as I can to save money more than the environment. Did LOADS of research and used my Sisters website for inspiration and went with the Littlelambs stuff as no one seemed to have a bad word to say!

Is anyone else really struggling with focussing at work at the moment? I am sooo tired and big that all I want to do by about 4 is sleep! Bearing in mind I start work at 8 and don't tend to finish until 6 it's a long old day!

xx

YummyMummy1208 · 13/07/2010 16:42

no they definately help, just the whole tingling sensation even makes a big distraction from the pain. and having to concentrate on pressing the buttons helped distract me aswell.
im a tad bored at work today - have plenty to do but like u sed baby bunting i just cant concentrate properly! handed in my diploma submission yesterday so i feel so much more relived now knowing its all done and i cant rest my brain again.

excuse my thickness but how exactly to reusable nappies work - i mean, i know u obviously wash them but when baby does a poo - is there a layer in there that you take out and throw away or something? how does it work?? never really read much into re usable but theyr starting to sound more appealing.

babybunting2010 · 13/07/2010 17:23

Basically it has different layers depending on the babies age and what they are eating, there is a paper layer first which works once the poo is more solid more than whilst the baby is being breast fed where it tends to be a little too squidgy although you can still use a paper layer I guess. This is a thin layer like the thin inner layer of a disposable.

Then there is what they call a booster, which is for if you are likely to leave the baby in the nappy for longer, like if you are out and about or at night times. This is made from Bamboo, cotton or a microfibre, depending on the style you want to go for.

The next layer is pretty much like a fitted and velcrod terrys nappy, it basically looks the same as a disposable but made of again Bamboo, Cotton or a microfibre. This is sort of similar to the middle cotton wool type stuff that's in a disposable nappy.

Finally you have what they call a wrap, this is a bit like the plastic outer layer of normal nappies.

When the baby needs changing, you would throw away the paper bit, Wash the booster and the actual nappy and re use the wrap (Usually lasts a fair few changes before it needs cleaning as it's waterproof and obviously therefore wipeable!)The different materials that I mentioned are all slightly different with their own sets of pro's and cons. Bamboo, really absorbant, excellent material but takes a long time to dry. Cotton, Medium absorbancy, fab material, usually slightly cheaper, medium drying time and then microfibre, not so great absorbancy (Still probably better than disposables) But dries pretty much as soon as it's out of the washing machine.

You can actually buy tester kits and things from the websites. if you wanted to buy one to look at. A kit of 10 reusables with boosters, 3 wraps, a pack of paper liners (Think it's 200) plus a bin to store wet nappies in is around £115 at the moment from littlelambs or "greenabubs"

Hope this helps a little bit! I used my sisters website of "clothnappytree" which has really helped me to get my head around it all!

Hmmm..... not sure if I've just rambled on for ages now sorry all!

xxx

anythingwithagiraffeonit · 13/07/2010 19:06

You are very informed :p I feel about guilty about it but don't know if I have the dedication to do reusable nappies :S

About the things we're looking forward to... Christmas Eve is my DH's birthday and every year my whole family, and his whole family get together in the afternoon at a restaurant and have a lunch.. last year my SIL was there and pregnant and everyone was fussing over her, and her 2 year old, and my other nephews..

This year i'll have my baby there and it just feels like this massive milestone! I can't wait... I know in reality she will probably cry and cry, but in my head, its going to be AMAZING

In other news, went for a Glucose Tolerance Test this morning, and felt fine, other than slightly hungry so I hope that comes back negative :S I'm supposed to go on holiday in two weeks and need them to give me a fit to fly letter!!

Hope everyone's well! Some of us must be going into our third trimester now?
