October 2010 babies?

1001 replies

Hi, I am a first-timer Mum to Be and Baby has been given a due date of 1 October. Very early dates still, so nervous and excited I cannot think about anything else! Planning not to tell family and friends till the first three months are over, but it's going to be tough!
Anyone else expecting an October baby out there?

OOps that was meant to be hope everyone had a nice weekend!

KFW · 22/03/2010 14:00

Hi ladies. Good to hear so much excitement. It's nice to feel positive about these things - i am used to feeling so negative. Hubby and I had a seriously stressful weekend as I bled heavily on Friday. Went to A&E and they couldnt scan me but just took blood and examined my cervix (unnecessary and unpleasant!). I went for a scan on Saturday and they said that I had a subchorionic haematoma. I freaked out (because I had one just before my second miscarriage). I contacted the prof who is managing me for recurrent miscarriage and I think he freaked out too. He called me in this morning (can't believe I have had two scans in 48 hours) and, amazingly, the haematoma seems to have resolved itself already. And there was the bean, happy as can be and doing crunches! Phew. I am going to get grey hairs at this rate!! I am 8+4 and wondering if i will EVER make it out of the danger zone!

Dayne - thanks for your comments. I am pleased for you that you are at 11 weeks! I have also had a zillion tests done and nothing appears to be wrong. Frustrating, but also pleasing in a weird way.

JazzieJeff - all best wishes for your scan!

OH MY GOODNESS!!

Had a rant on a new thread but thought I would let you ladies know what happened to me today.

Still no word on my scan so phonned the Dr's surgery. Where I was told that my referral lettter had been written and was waiting for the midwife the come and pick it up. They said she usually comes in on a Wednesday but they couldn't guarantee it would be this wednesday! I'll be 11 weeks on Wednesday and if she doesn't come this week I'll be 12 weeks before I'm even referred!

Am I wrong or is this not acceptable? My letter has been sitting there for 3 weeks and could be another 2 weeks before it moves any further!!

I feel really badly let down but just can't make a song and a dance as its just not my way - I feel like crying though!

Hope you're all having a better day!

KFW · 22/03/2010 14:38

Mummybeth that's terrible. I am also not one for making a song and dance.

However, it might be a good idea just to ask them whether they can send it to the hospital. Why does it have to wait for the midwife to pick it up? (are you having a home birth?) If I were you I'd probably write a note and drop it in to the surgery explaining your concerns and asking them to send it straight away. You dont need to complain and can write a gentle note, but people take things a bit more seriously when they are in writing. I'm a lawyer and am always a fan of recording things in documents!

DillyDora · 22/03/2010 15:53

Hi All,

babybunting congratulations! I was getting worried as we hadn't heard from you overprotective!

Jaysus KFW that's awful, poor you, your nerves must be shot to bits. So, it's ok now? Flip. Hang on in there, girly.

So Jazzie how's your bean-o?

Waterbabemum, I know what you mean about the clothes, they do make the sicky worse. Ugh. In leggings today - oh the loveliness. But have actually been so, so much better this weekend, less sick, more energy - long may it continue. O, and my boobs are growing at last - hallelujah!

Thanks for the info on brandyballs MummyBeth I may try to procure some...

Big love everyone, enjoy the rest of your day
xx

babybunting2010 · 22/03/2010 16:09

Mummybeth, that's awful, I would actually phone the local hospital and ask to speak to someone in the Early Pregnancy Unit. That's just not fair of them to leave you hanging!

KFW what a horrid weekend you seem to have had! Stay strong and take it as excuse to rest more and eat more! Have everything crossed for you for the next few weeks!

DillyDora, thanks hun, meant to try and log on at the weekend, but ended up spending Saturday at Mothercare!!!!

Daynee · 22/03/2010 16:51

babybunting - YAHOOOOO!! Wonderful news!! Hearing this makes me even more excited about my own upcoming scan...still NERVOUS but very hopeful!

KFW - My goodness...I'm so happy that you and baby are O.K. What a nightmare that must have been! Good news though...

Mummy - So sorry you have to go through all this "red tape." It's ridiculous . I'm here in the U.S. so I don't have this referral issue. The only thing I can suggest is, Can you go somewhere else?

I'm 11+2 now and I'm feeling less tired...still managing to sleep quite a bit, but not as groggy at work today. Anyone else have this?

Have a wonderful day ladies!!!!!

nomorewine · 22/03/2010 17:00

Poor you, KFW. Sounds really scary for you. Will also have everything crossed for you.

Congats on your scan, babybunting - it must be lovely seeing your little baby. Mine is next Tuesday & I feel quite nervous. Can't believe there is really something growing inside me!

How are you all feeling?
I have felt quite well over the last 2 days & my midwife said today that the good days should start becoming more frequent now. I will be 11 weeks on Thursday.

Midwife came to my house to do my booking in appt today & it was all done & dusted pretty quickly. She has taken my notes & will return them after my scan next week.

Jazzie - hope your scan went ok today.

Hey Lulabelle, welcome and congrats!

nomorewine, it doesn't feel anymore real to me at the moment, except every now and then I look at the scan picture and wave...I know a bit silly! It has excited DH and we spent about 3 hours in Mothercare Saturday!!!

Jazzie... How was your scan? I hope everything is ok!!!

Daynee: Thanks hun, yeah it's nerve racking as hell, when the picture came up I panicked because the baby didn't look like it was moving, but then I giggled with nerves and saw it kind of bounce across the screen then it kind of waved, It was awesome!!!!

Get to have another scan on the 6th of April to check that something has moved into the right place, but the midwife said not to even worry about it!

PLUS I seem to have finished with the feeling crappy stage.... No more morning sickness. Am still shattered though but feeling a lot more human. Am 11 weeks tomorrow!!! There is hope for us all!

Have a nice day all.

xx

nomorewine · 23/03/2010 12:11

My crappy stage seems to be finally passing too, babybunting. I will be 11 weeks on Thursday & since Sunday I have definitely felt a lot less queasy & more human. still can't stay awake much past 10pm though & still can't drink tea, but a big improvement!

Daynee · 23/03/2010 12:59

Congrats lulabelle - What exciting news!

nomorewine - My scan is also next Tuesday. I will be 12+3 ( I hope and pray )...I'm so nervous to look up at the screen...

I've also been feeling better - not as much nausea or fatigue. I am still very tired, but not quite as much as before! I can manage to get through my work day without snoozing on my desk!

Of course, this was worrying me too...like every little thing, I'm like, "Uh-oh, not a good sign!" I'm way too paranoid...Anyone have a fast-forward button I could borrow??

I know the feeling. I have been very anxious during this pregnancy & cannot see past next Tuesday. I feel more anxious about this scan than I did with my other two, but maybe because of my age now. (I am 37 this time)

I would be panicking about symptoms calming down if it hadn't been for my midwife telling me yesterday that I should start to notice more & more good days now.

babybunting2010 · 23/03/2010 15:08

Yeah totally exhausted all the time but other than that feel fine, Haven't got much of an appetite still either. Which is hilarious as I am usually a complete ganit, now that I am pregnant have to force myself to eat.

Has anyone had any cravings at all? I still haven't am interested in seeing whether I get one at all!

Also does anyone else know what are the old wives tales on whether you are having a boy or a girl???

xx

Daynee · 23/03/2010 15:29

So, I've been eating A LOT of ice cream and normally, I NEVER eat ice cream!

I don't know about the wive's tales but you should check out the Chinese baby calendar here:
www.webwomb.com/chinesechart.htm

It was right for my friend, and if it's right for me, I'm having a boy.

Daynee · 23/03/2010 15:36

Nevermind - thought it was the age I conceived but it's the age I'll be when I give birth...so I'm having a GIRL. ?

babybunting2010 · 23/03/2010 15:48

Just been looking at them and half of them say age at conception and half age at birth. I was 25 when I conceived and was 26 3 weeks later!!! So I can't tell!

But happy as larry either way!

xx

nomorewine · 23/03/2010 16:09

Chinese gender chart is a load of piffle! Is wrong for DS1 & right for DS2 so 50/50 I would say! Also, if the Chinese could predict gender so easily, they would all make sure they conceived boys & there wouldn't be all those unwanted baby girls in China.

Daynee · 23/03/2010 16:38

UGH! nomorewine - Good point!

nomorewine · 23/03/2010 16:44

There is another gender prediction website called fortune baby.com, which claims to be scientically proven, but won't give you the result until you part with £15!

The old wives tales I know of are : the wedding ring test, where you dangle your wedding ring over your belly & if it moves in cirles it is a girl, or back & forth for a boy. Can also do this over the palm of your hand & it is meant to show how many children you will have & their sexes.
Also, they say if you are very sick you are more likely to have a girl, but my mum wasn't sick with either pregnancy & had two girls! If your hairs on your leg grow slower it is meant to indicate a girl, faster for a boy. Neat bump = boy, put on weight all over = girl, and so the list goes on! Not sure there is much evidence to back much of any of them up though!

nomorewine · 23/03/2010 16:47

Also, how do these gender pridictor thingys explain boy/girl twins?!!

nomorewine · 23/03/2010 16:47

Predictor even!

waterbabemum · 23/03/2010 19:47

glad people have been feeling better an less tired post 10- 11 weeks.

Im 11-3 now and i was getting a bit worried that feeling better was a bad sign

brockleyD · 23/03/2010 20:41

I am getting worried too, I have been feeling a lot better since 8 weeks but I wasn't that bad before, just gagging not ever actually sick. Fingers crossed its not a bad sign. Good luck ladies with all your scans, I can't wait for mine.
