not sure if this is the right place for this but I just wondered

  1. How long did you take to get pregant?
  2. Did you do anything different if you were trying for a while?
  3. What were your first signs?

I am 32; size 16, have regular periods, 31 day cycles. I came off the pill 10 months ago and ttc. On 11th month.

Just looking for a bit of hope.

DD1 - 9 months after coming off the Pill, did nothing different, just had that feeling

DD2 - first month and one shag only (DP was relocating a month before we did so that wa shis goodbye present so I know it was only the once) first unprotected sex since DD1, again knew straight away

DB3 - first month of ttc, worked out my fertile time and concentrated having sex around that time,

DD3 - first month of ttc after mc of DB3, again just had sex at fertile times, think we had a regime of CD10, 12, 14 and 16 seems to work for us

DB5 - first month of ttc, again just the even days sex

1&2) 2 years and 3mc's with DC1. Already had 2 step kids so to save us anymore heartache we decided to give up and be happy with our lot as ovulation checks, fertility testing and having sex because the timimg was right rather than because we wanted to, was all beginning to take its toll. (also had several gynae problems, cysts adhesions etc)
the following month, I was pregnant. I guess just relaxing and not trying so hard allowed nature to take its course!
DC's 2-4 all unplanned was breastfeeding with dc2, had mirena coil with dc3 and on pill with dc4 (am currently 36+3 weeks)!
It seems after all the effort to get DC1 there was nothing capable of stopping me getting pregnant again and again!
3) DC1 - passed out in pain and was rushed to hospital with (yet another) suspected overian cyst. Cyst turned out to have arms and legs. found out at 3 weeks pg by HCG test so no symptoms til 7 weeks when sickness started.
DC2 - just knew I was pregnant. Woke DH up in middle of night to tell him I was pg only for him to accuse me of being mad. Had +pg test next day.
DC3 - no symptoms or signs found out when had routine pg test at surgical pre assessment for planned sterilisation! was 9 weeks pg
DC4 - again just knew, on pill and waiting list for 2nd attempt at sterilisation and tried to ignore gut feeling but knew had to face reality when I tried to drink glass of wine and could not bring myself to swallow, gag reflex took over! Did test and early assessment scan showed I was 10 weeks!
Hope this helps?!
Good luck and I hope you get the result you are looking for very soon but try to relax and not stress out everytime you get your period. Sometimes it is just easier to conceive when you are not trying so hard.
xx

3 months. I would really recommend 'Taking Charge if Your Fertility' by Toni Weschler. Reading that book was the only different thing I did that month compared to the other two. Really, really helped me to pinpoint my ovulation!!

Good luck

MrsMc82 · 16/01/2010 00:10

Was shocked and delighted to get lucky on our 2nd cycle of trying....
Was using a persona too and had been for about 12 months as wanted to give my body a rest from being on the pill...... When we decided to start ttc we just swapped to having sex on red days and rather than green ones and especially on the days the ov sign showed....
First symptom at 3 weeks (before i know i was pg) was weird mild dizzyness and also puking in street while on a hen night after only 2 drinks (truly mortifing!!) x

BlackLetterDay · 16/01/2010 01:50

Dd was an erm accident lol, ds1 on the first month. However took us 7 months to concieve ds2 with one very early mc the first month of trying.

Don't think we did anything different, I get ovulation pain which is useful, feel the pain do the deed. I would concentrate any sex on days when you have ewcm (if you do), although the month I conceived ds2 was a really odd cycle, as was the one before. Really long and with no obvious signs of ovulation etc. I thought I was pg the month I concieved ds, sore boobs and feeling odd (af was due), but I think I was only ov then (and obviously managed to catch that egg) mucked up my pg dates no end.

first signs with dd were sore boobs and extreme tiredness. With ds1 I had no signs at all, with ds2 I had given up testing as my cycle was so long. But
I felt really dizzy and faint whilst shopping one day and decided to do one last test to put my mind at ease (had been testing loads . Got a boots own brand test and lo and behold it was positive. No sore boobs or sickness mind.

How long did it take you to get pregnant?

First time- 8 years (30-38), after 6 years of trying naturallt and 3 IVF attempts (unexplained infertility.

Second time- first cycle of trying (39). Used a Clearblue fertility monitor, Pre-seed and Instead sofcups (to keep everything where it should be- sorry if tmi!). We were scheduled to do IVF again this month, but I was desperate not to have to wean DS (would have had to for IVF), so decided to try everything we could think of for a few months. Luckily for us and DS,it worked! Due in May.

Signs- none really until the positive tests.

Georgimama · 16/01/2010 06:39

Nearly two years.

What did I do different when it finally worked? Had been diagnosed with PCOS and taking Metformin. DH had also had sperm levels checked and took Wellman supplements for three months prior to conception - convinced this sorted out his low sperm count.

Has your DH been checked out?

Signs - incredibly sore boobs. Horribly heavy and painful to the touch. Very tired - going to bed straight from work. "Knew" I must be pregnant as felt so different and delayed doing test as dreaded it being negative in spite of those symptoms because I thought if I wasn't pregnant I must be ill.

Have had 2 miscarriages since DS was born and in neither did I have the same level of symptoms. First one no symptoms at all - MC at 5 weeks so "chemical pregnancy" really I suppose. Second was at 7.5 weeks and although I had some of those symptoms, nowhere near as much. DH tried to comfort me prior to the MC that perhaps my body was just used to pregnancy and that was the reason not so tired, not so sore etc but I knew I was going to lose it and I did.

  1. DD was not planned.

  2. Didn't notice any signs.

  3. DC2 was conceived on third month (I say month but but cycle is 37 days).

  4. I charted my temperatures as per FAM method outlined in 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility'. I also tried to cut down on alcohol, tea and stress. Oh, and stayed lying down after the deed (missionary).

  5. Mild period cramps, pain on right side, exhaustion and the ability to smell a fart at a hundred paces.

Georgimama · 16/01/2010 07:43

Oh yes, sense of smell - I'd forgotten that one. I couldn't cook spag bog or chilli con carne until I was about 15 weeks pregnant because until then the smell of frying minced beef actually made me vomit. Love meat, never had such a problem before or since.

first1 · 16/01/2010 07:56

Fell pregnant first month of trying.

I looked up my fertile dates and we happened to be in sunny Greece during that time, so reckon being so relaxed in holiday mode must have helped.

I had no signs or symptoms until 1-2weeks after positive tests.

Good luck!

MummyTumble · 16/01/2010 09:58

First month everytime. With first dc used ovulation kits for a few months to check when was the 'best' time. Sex every other day leading up to ovulation. Twice coincided with holidays so that was fun

Also had DH on vitC & zinc tablets as i'd read they helped the sperm.....

nikkisbump · 16/01/2010 12:23

We were using protection as I did not feel ready to get pregnant again after my miscarriage in June. We got.. ahem.. carried away on holiday in October and I missed my period 2.5 weeks later. I knew around 1.5 weeks after conception as I was extra crabby, really crampy and had the sorest boobs. I'm now 17 weeks pregnant!

hippopo · 16/01/2010 13:16

It took 22 months and I am 33, I am now just over 15 weeks and due 3rd July.

Both me and my husband worked very long hours and I found my job v stressful and I was ok most of the time but tended to get upset for about one week every month (week I was on my period) and rest of the time felt quite positive.

In August we made a lot of changes and in our mind were giving ourselves 6 months and then looking into fertility treatment. So it may sound quite hard core but it felt like I was taking some control back and husband and I were really commited to it.

So we both changed are diet to 80-90% organic, took supplements recommended by nutritionist, gave up caffiene, alcohol, changed all household cleaning products and beauty products to chemical free, took up yoga, lost 1-2 stone in weight. Went on a fertility detox retreat (highly recommend this). All I took a 6 month sabattical from work. Something worked because two months later got pregnant!

Not saying everyone needs to do this but I am so glad we did as not only did it result in BFP but we are also both so much more healthy, calm and balanced. Part of me thinks maybe I wasn't ready in my 'old' life.

Waited until was a few days late before taking test as I have wasted so much money oon these early tests! it helped thinking well I have done everything I can this month and what will be will be,

good luck

When I fist started TTC for #1 I was 26y. It took 15m, early mc and then a furtehr 14/15m I was 29y when DD was born.

I have been TTC for #2 for over 5y with no success. I did have Asherman's Syndrome following the cs with my DD though, so had two ops to sort that out in this time, and 6m of Clomid.

I have int he past trying temping, monitoring CM, OPKs, etc.

hettie · 16/01/2010 14:16

well I was 31 when we first started trying- didn't really do anything but removed the contraceptive implant.... took 6-7 months, but resulted in an ectopic. Lost my right tube and then had to wait 3 months post surgery (for safety reasons) within 2 months of that was pregnant (had given up thinking of it as consultnant had said that with only one tube it could take a year or so). With number 2 tried for 8-9 months (but was starting to get a bit stressed about it) (now 35, so age played a part in my worry). That pregnancy ended in miscarriage, 2 months later was pregnant (again had stopped worrying/thinking about it) and now 36 weeks.
So for me that thing that 'worked' was giving up trying ifkwim. Interstingly I worked in a psychology dep that specialised in looking into the effects of stress on fertility, the research is fairly confidently showing that stress (for example worrying/obsessing about getting pregnant) negatively effects fertility. Of course it's easier said than done to just chill out about it. Some research is showing that a talkign therapy may help with this in some women.....

Heathcliffscathy · 16/01/2010 14:17

2 and a half years for my second (10 weeks now) with one miscarriage in between. hard and rocky road. i have one recommendation. get your progesterone levels tested.

MumNWLondon · 16/01/2010 18:35

not sure if this is the right place for this but I just wondered

  1. How long did you take to get pregant?

tried for 6 months after getting coil out but it didn't happen.

  1. Did you do anything different if you were trying for a while?

was made redundant so used non hormonal contraception for 6 months and had acupuncture, lost weight (about a stone down to slim size 12), did foresight vitamin programme. got pregnant on first month when started trying again

  1. What were your first signs? very travel sick on a work trip by train from liverpool I am 32; size 16, have regular periods, 31 day cycles. I came off the pill 10 months ago and ttc. On 11th month.

Just looking for a bit of hope.

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 17/01/2010 19:45

I got pregnant first month with DS, then first month by accident and MCd and then 1st month with my current pregnancy which is a girl.

I have always raised my bits after sex to make sure it's running the right direction.

MrsTriangle · 17/01/2010 19:57

We seem to get PG very easily (I know we're lucky).

We have sex every other day (just once) starting from day 8 of my cycle to about day 16 as some months you can ovulate on diff days and also having sex only every other day, the sperm count is higher.

For me, I know I'm pregnant because I become a bit more insular and less alert as it were and also have a dull pressure in my lower abdomen.

Fibilou · 18/01/2010 09:56
  1. IUD came out at the beginning of April. I got pregnant while in New York 3 weeks later
  2. N/a
  3. Really sore boobs.
kitcat1977 · 18/01/2010 10:40

Just over two years for us - conceived naturally after two failed IVF cycles (PCOS and low morphology).

I lost 2.5 stones in that time (big size 16 to size 12) and I'm sure that if we hadn't been rushed into it, we'd never have needed the IVF.

Felt very tired, but that's about all. Haven't had MS throuhout pregnancy - lucky me!

porcamiseria · 18/01/2010 12:53

1 year but once I peed on the stick, 2 months!!! def try it

SkaterGrrrrl · 27/01/2010 14:24

9 months after coming off the pill. It finally happened on holiday when we were super-chilled.

Cicatrice · 27/01/2010 14:28

Took about 6 weeks at age 36.

Coffee started to taste "wrong" to me, and I was very tired. Thought I was getting flu.

lovechoc · 27/01/2010 14:38

got pg with #1 within a month, was 22yo.

took two years to conceive #2. didn't really change anything, just forgot about trying to get pregnant and it just happened. got fed up waiting after the first year, and thought 'sod it' and got busy with other things in my life then 'bang!' found out I was pg as a surprise.

good luck, as other have said, it can take a couple with no probs, about 1 to 2 years to conceive the first time round. wishing you all the best OP
