Is there a thread for the old birds who are pregnant and over 40?

I'm on a fab thread on the ttc section but am now 7 wks preg .

I know it's early days but I wondered if there was a thread on here for the older pregnant woman who might be experiencing all the same things as me.

God, I hope I'm not tempting fate by coming over from the ttc side!!!!!

I didn't have the nuchal scan this time (I did for my other 2 dc ) as I thought it would just come up with such a high risk that i didn't think it would be helpful. I think this was possibly because I'd had the 2 nuchal scans before and basically ignored the results and knew I'd do the same again. i saw the consultant at 16w (for being over 40) and he was very worried about it and thought i was going to refuse the 20w anomaly scan which of course i wasn't.Have to see him again at 37w to discuss induction at 40w. The thought of induction horrifies me so I hope this one will turn up early like the other two did.

Hello ladies. Just having a quick look to see how everyone is. I find it very encouraging to see all you 40+ ladies getting preg.

Also, i had a quick look at the list and there I was - not forgotten. Made me go a bit blubby if the truth be told.

Sincerely, hope to be back with you one day.

look after those bumps.

Had my date scan today and I am 9w+4d, so my due date is 19th Dec (hmm could be a Christmas baby!!!).

I was blown away by the scan. I was expecting to see a tadpole, but we clearly saw the head, 2 arms and 2 legs and there was a good heartbeat. I am so thrilled and feel positive this baby is going to be OK.

Roll on 10th June for my 12 week scan and I just know everything will be OK - I feel it in my water

Thanks all for your support - I look forward to reading how all us 'oldies' are getting on.

ande · 19/05/2010 20:19

Thats great MamaBubs

Kathsunn · 19/05/2010 20:20

Congratulation, MamaB! I'm due in Dec. too (26th). Can hardly wait for my scan in 3 weeks to make sure all is well and start telling everyone.

Great news! Really happy for you!!

LooL00 · 20/05/2010 10:02

Hi everyone.

Brilliant news mamababs, you can relax a bit now I hope. Can't believe all these Xmas babies! The best time in the school year as well! (thinking ahead just a little....).
I'm feeling hot and sluggish and can't face doing anything at all, 33 weeks today.

ButterflyChild · 22/05/2010 12:34

Hi, may I join you please? I've just found out that I'm pg, and must be 10-12 weeks, obscured by bleeding (which I'd thought was perimenopause). Anyone else in this situation after a lifetime of unexplained infertility?

I can't wait to tell dd(6) but won't until all tests have been completed.

I hope this isn't tempting fate, and I've only told one very discreet friend. It's great to know that I'm not alone...at 46! All advice very very welcome, please.

Congrats to you all, too.

ande · 22/05/2010 15:50

Congratulations on your pregnancy ButterflyChild!

Haven't got any useful advice to give, just wanted to welcome you to the thread.

MamaBubs · 22/05/2010 17:19

ButterflyChild - welcome and congratulations to you!

I was told by my Doc that I was going through the menopause last Aug after years of infertility, then 3 weeks ago I found out I was expecting! Biggest but happiest shock of my life! But being 43 I do have some concerns but after having a dating scan earlier this week and seeing my little baby on the screen I am feeling calmer and walking around with the biggest grin on my face

We too are still waiting to tell people and I can't wait for that - so many are going to be shocked.

Good luck to you, and look forward to the story swapping in the coming months xx

justbeme · 22/05/2010 22:14

Havent caught up, but havent posted on here for AGES!! Where did this thread disappear to?
Am 39 weeks now!! and STILL can't quite believe that I'm having my third!
Have found this pregnancy hard work - Definately more aches and pains and haven't really enjoyed it. (I loved being pregnant when I was 26!!)
Saw that John Travolta and his wife who I think is 47 are expecting again - so that made me feel young at 41!!

KiwiKat · 22/05/2010 23:01

Evening all, back from holiday, hence my long absence. Welcome to all the newbies, great to see so many of us on here, and that everyone is doing so well.

Am having a dating and screening scan on Monday, when I will be 13 weeks, then a visit with the consultant the next day, due to my advanced age, IVF and the fact that I had obstetric cholestasis with ds1.

LooL00 · 23/05/2010 11:13

Welcome butterflychild. Good luck with the scan Kiwi, I had to see the consultant due to my 'advanced age ' too but he just signed me back to the mw. he said they like to induce the oldies at 40 weeks but I'm trying to forget he said that and hopin g we don't get to 40weeks. Keep us posted justbeme and good luck!

Persnickety · 23/05/2010 14:48

Hi everyone. Just checking in. I'm 9 + 1 (or something close to that) today. So, still very early. But, really lookin forward to the end of the first trimester. And, like others, looking forward to the scan when I can then stop hiding my fat belly and not care who asks about it.

Hello, Kiwikat. I've changed my name for pregnancy relaqted posts cause I'm not quite ready to announce my condition to the world. But, I sat next to you a Patara a few months ago when we had a girly night out. I am not the one who was trying to get pregnant. But here I am. oops , but .

CAT me if I have totally confused me and I tell you my other name.

KiwiKat · 23/05/2010 22:17

Persnickety - congratulations! If you are who I think you are, are you American?

negrilbaby · 24/05/2010 14:31

Hi All
Haven't posted for a while but am now 33 + 5 and feeling huge. I have a growth scan booked for 36 weeks and a further meeting with the consultant to discuss birthing options. I really feel I'm going to ask for an elective cs. DS was 9 lb but had a rather large head - which never quite made it into the birthing canal - and ended up having an emergency cs with him following induction on my due date (hospital didn't want me going over because of my age). The consultant has warned me that second babies are usually larger than the first and looking at the size of my bump I think this may well be the case. I have also developed gestational diabetes again - so this increases the liklihood of a large bub.
Hope you're all coping with this heat. I found that getting the paddling pool out for DS and sitting in the shade with my feet in a bucket of water a great way to spend a sunday afternoon. In a stifling office today and the ankles are starting to disappear!

LooL00 · 24/05/2010 15:50

Hi negrilbaby I'm 33+4 and positively waddling. I've got to see the consultant at 37 weeks about induction on due date which is something I'm really against.Hopefully this on will arrive earlier than that as the other 2 did.If you want a c section then ask for it, and make a fuss if you don't get it, but, by the way dc2 was 2oz less than dc1 so you won't necessarily have a really big one.

KiwiKat · 27/05/2010 22:57

Had my 12 week scan (at 13 weeks) and it's amazing how everything becomes very real at that point. It's no longer about me being pregnant, suddenly there's a real, live baby in there! Have allowed myself to feel excited at last.

LooL00 · 28/05/2010 11:08

Brilliant to hear that Kiwi. Me and DH were both welling up after the '13' week scan.So exciting.

Elena67 · 28/05/2010 19:47

Hi
I am 37+6 and VAST so had a presentation scan in the week with a guess at the size. It seems pretty big but they can never be sure and the registrar (do consultants actually exist or are they imaginary and represented on earth by their registrars?)seemed extremely relaxed about the whole thing. I'd been told very early on (by yet another registrar) that they won't let us old birds go over the 40 weeks but she said they wouldn't induce til 40+14, (just like normal people!!) although they recommend a sweep at 39 weeks just in case they can get things going. I suppose what I am saying, amidst all the waffle, is LooL00 I don't think that a term induction is inevitable if you don't want it - stamp your feet (you never know, it might bring it on!!)

schipo · 31/05/2010 16:17

I'm happy to be able to announce that I got there. I'm now a first time mum at 40

Our beautiful little boy was born on Saturday 4.40am after a twelve hour labour. He was 7lbs 13oz and twelve days overdue. I'd tried every sort of natural induction method, but gave in in the end to some prostaglandin gel and it all kicked off 5 hours later.

Good luck to everyone else! how is it going ande?

ande · 31/05/2010 19:06

Congratulations schipo, fabulous news!

I'm still here, still very much pregnant.
Have tried everything to try and kick things off, but although I'm getting grumbling pains for hours sometimes it's not progressed.

Infact I'm sitting here with lower back pain and bump tightenings and feeling sick as I type this. No doubt it'll be another few hours of "is this it?" and then nothing!

Do you have a name for DS? - we still haven't agreed on one, and after 3 DDs you'd have thought we would have one for a DS

Big congratulations again

xx

KiwiKat · 31/05/2010 22:24

Schipo, splendid news!

LooL00 · 01/06/2010 09:22

Congratulations schipo brilliant news!

Thanks elena i think I will be stamping my feet if thet 'threaten' induction. I'm hoping that the whole situation will not arise (DC1 38w, DC 39w) and am planning a homebirth.(by planning I mean I've bought some sanitary pads and am thinking about getting some plastic sheeting at some point).
