Hi,

I saw this group just before my miscarriage in october, and much to mine (and my hubbys)delight we would like to join your group.

I am 5 weeks now, due the 3rd August so still panicing at every little twitch and pain.

So great to know I am not mad!!!

[grin --- mine is a lot wider than this at the minute!!!

Alys

scarlotti · 05/12/2009 17:21

Alys welcome and congratulations on your news. Feel free to share any panic moments as we've all been there.
I am now looking at my 4 week old who was knicker checked for ages after the 2 m/c we'd had on the way, so hang on in there.

MaHobbit · 05/12/2009 21:41

Congrats Alys.

I'm on reverse knicker check, on and off. Sprout2 -The Revenge was more coooperative. Face and heart fine. Placenta still low lying. Mostly am philosophical and believe I'm one of the 95%where it moves OK. The rest of the time I'm knicker checking and dreading a big bleed.

Mainly I think this is probably the last time I will be pregnant (cos I expect it to turn out well and 2 rugrats is plenty for my old body thankyouverymuch) and no silly test result is going to rob me of the chance of enjoying it.

Buckler · 06/12/2009 11:07

love the thread name!! Am constantly expecting to see something in knickers, i'm on third pregnancy two previous miscarriages, this one has to go well, scared though. I'm nearly six weeks anyone in the same boat?

lal123 · 07/12/2009 11:20

Hi all - just checking in while Maia's having a sleep For all those new to this thread - good luck, hope your knickers remain boring and you have uneventful pregnancies.

I can't believe that Maia is nearly 8 weeks old now. She is an absolute darling (apart from the continuous being sick - DD1 calls her Maia McBokeBoke) Poor wee love has her first immunisations on Wednesday - calpol is at the ready!

Scarlotti - if LO is putting on weight at 12 oz a week missing hte odd night feed will do him no harm!!! (congratulations by the way ) Maia was putting on wieght at same rate when she was 3-6 weeks - slowed down a bit now, but still going well.

Did I ever say thanks to you all??? Your support and kind words really helped me through my pregnancy - it was wonderful to have somewhere to go to talk to people who understood what I was going through. THANK YOU!!!!

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 07/12/2009 12:50

Rosa good luck with everything! Pop back whenever you can we'd love to hear from you. I think 18 weeks was about when I began to believe that I might actually, really, honestly, truly, maybe, perhaps be having a real life baby

And there's no escaping the fact of DD

Buckler welcome to the thread, I love to see newbies joining, wishing you a boring pregnancy

alys congratulations to you too. Hope you have a long stay

vino welcome to the thread, it's a lovely place with lovely ladies all being lovely

lal scarlotti alana cornflake syd how's it all going?

ciara and blondieminx not long now! Hurray!

I know my brain isn't functioning on full capacity and I'm sure to have missed someone. If I have then it's because you are especially special and should just automatically know that I want to know how you are (that's my disclaimer)

Sending sticky thoughts across the internet to you all.

Thanks for being so welcoming and congratulations to everyone celebhad a six celebrating their babies arrivals. I had a six wk scan which confirmed a viable pregnancy with heart beat and everything so hey one decent scan for once lol. Am trying not to be too positive as a long way to go yet, nxt scan boxing day it's dragggiiinnggg.

Ps Feeling sick is a good sign right? Only i had sickness with the last two for a couple of wks then went on to lose them.

scarlotti · 07/12/2009 17:54

lal, crunch lovely to hear from you

lal Maia is 8 weeks already! How is she doing sleep wise?

Buckler great news on your scan. Symptoms don't seem to be an indication either way so don't worry if things appear or disappear!

Ioan is doing great, 4 weeks yesterday! Feeding in the day is still going well, just the night time one keeping me guessing and stressing! Other than that though he's proving to be a really placid happy boy I'm still having good and bad days, but they seem to correlate with how much sleep I've had!

alys78 · 07/12/2009 19:49

Hi,

Thanks for all the warm welcomes.

Buckler I am nearly 6 weeks too so due around the 3rd August.

I am feeling so ill this time round, tired sick, irritable, you name it!! but I am enjoying every minute of it.

Trying to think positive and not keep thinking when will it happen again.

Thanks for the kind words

Alys xx

alana39 · 08/12/2009 11:26

Hello everyone, welcome to alys and buckler (buckler you share a name with my favourite brand of French alcohol free beer, seeing your name took me back to lovely holidays when pregnant!).

Scarlotti - sympathies as we are having similar problems here - day times are lovely too, but still having 2-3 hours of feeding at a time at night. Apologies to Blondie and Ciara for saying you get more sleep after the baby arrives - now have to amend that to say that in 2 out of 3 cases it has been true for me. This time I am definitely getting less sleep than the last few weeks of pregnancy but still feel much better for not being the size of a house, and at least when I am awake I'm holding a lovely baby instead of lying in the dark feeling crap.

Have just put on the first washable nappy having hit 10lb last week and finally got round to washing them - now have another thing to stress about! I'm not sure they aren't still a bit too big - probably not the best time to also start him in the sling when he won't settle but at the moment he's not producing too much in terms of quantity of poo so thought it might be better to get used to them before he ups the ante.

Glad to see everyone is having an uneventful time - and seeing lal pop in reminds me I probably haven't said thanks for all the support over the last 9 months so thank you everyone

Ciara11 · 08/12/2009 14:20

Buckler and Alys welcome to this thread, you will find, like i did that it is very helpful for those little worries that you are going through, make sure you post on here and we will all help in anyway we can

Good to hear for you lal and crunch and see that things are settling down for you and your little ones, although im not too keen on Alana not agreeing with the "more sleep after birth" option - i will have to keep my fingers crossed eh?

Not long now to go, only 4 weeks til his due date, but still 2 and a bit weeks left at work, i cant wait until christmas and then i know that little one is almost here and work has finished (well for the time being anyway)

Hope you are doing well Blondie

Hugs to everyone

blondieminx · 10/12/2009 00:14

Hello lovely ladies, sorry for lack of posting recently.

MaHobbit glad to hear you are feeling more chilled about things, like you say stats-wise the placenta is likely to move fine

Rosa on the offchance you pop back for a glimpse - hope things go well for you!

Ciara hi hun, how's it going? I honestly can't believe how quickly this trimester is going, we are nearly there

Alys and Buckler welcome to the thread, I hope your stays are loooong and uneventful! Fingers crossed for you both! FWIW, there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to the sickness thing at all, it's different depending on the person and the pregnancy. Take each day as it comes and hang in there.

Lal Scarlotti Crunch and Alana lovely to see you... and thank you all for hand holding me when I was new to the thread! I'm looking forward to joining you all on the postnatal thread in a few weeks time!

Hi to anyone lurking or who I may have missed, the ombination of blonde and baby brain is noooo good sometimes!!!

I finish work next Friday and can't wait, am pleased with handover etc and have applied for a promotion for which I had the interview on Monday (don't think I'll get it because of the timing - but I don't want them to assume I'm happy to be parked on the "mummy track"!). Midwife said head is starting to engage and have I packed my hospital bag so I finished that at the weekend. Got another scan tomorrow (cos of thyroid prob they monitor for growth) - am taking DH's 80-something grandma who on noticing my tummy twich said "oh I wish I could see what's going on in there" so I said "well come with me on Thursday then!". Apparently despite 4 kids of her own and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren she's never been to a scan. So that should be nice! Oh and my best friends threw me a baby shower at the weekend - got spoilt rotten, and am finally starting to believe that in a few weeks time there will be a real actual baby here

alana39 · 10/12/2009 11:59

That's a lovely thing to do Blondie with DH's grandma - I was talking to someone's gran at school last week who had been taken to a 3D scan by her son and DIL and she was over the moon about having seen it all. I bet your baby shower was great - despite being a bit about the whole idea before my sister's MIL (who's American) threw her one, I was of course secretly jealous when I saw the present .

Very excited here to find out that even nappies with poo at the edges can be washed to look brand new. Anyway, a big thanks to those of you on here who convinced me it wasn't too much of a hassle - was it Tamlin and Cornflake maybe? And apologies to anyone I've forgotten.

We're midway through school Christmas concerts here - I am normally a bit of a blubber at those kind of things (crying as opposed to whale fat, although plenty of that too at the moment as I continue to scoff Lindor like it's about to be banned) but must be extra hormonal at the moment as I started within minutes of the first song yesterday. DS2's is tomorrow and will no doubt be even worse

chukles · 10/12/2009 20:57

Hi there everyone, a good friend recommended this site because it appears that i am officially a knicker checker. I had a mc last june at nearly 12 weeks and am now nearly six weeks pregnant. Terrified is an understatement. To me, the idea of growing a bump and then having a baby seems virtually impossible. I'm trying to think positively but fear I might go a bit mad before my 12 week scan. Sigh.

ozbride · 11/12/2009 09:19

Hi, I'm 5 weeks 5 days into my 5th pregnancy (none successful) and I feel like I'm going to go mad. I just can't see my luck ever changing. I thought things might be different this time as although idont feel sick, I have been put off my food and couldn't find anything I fancied. I never had symptoms before. The last three days I have been able to eat and I am worried it's a loss of symptoms. I had an early scan at 5 weeks 1 day and there was just a sac. The doc said it would be too early to see anything else but I'm not convinced. I have another scan on 21st and I'm terrified. My boobs are only sore when I poke them.

Sorry this is a bit of a self indulgent first post, I've been lurking on and off x

alana39 · 11/12/2009 10:25

Hi chukles and ozbride and congratulations. You're in the right place - I found the support here was really great especially for that awful first trimester which seems to last for much more than 3 months. Hope you are both here for long stays.

ozbride try not to read too much into symptoms, they are often very unreliable. Know how you feel though, I remember all too well prodding boobs regularly to see if they still felt sore . Perhaps we should be knicker checkers and boob prodders anonymous.

mrsseed · 11/12/2009 10:37

I love the name of the tread, its so appropriate. I go to the bathroom to check at the slightest thing. (4th pregnancy, 1 DD, 2 M/C this year) I'm 6 weeks pregnant now and suppose should check in with Doctor, but trying not to get to involved with pregnancy and stay detached, seeing doc would make it formal. Having said that name a symptom and I've got it so can't be that detached!
Symptoms for me are not indicative. I get them at the slightest hint of pregnancy. I knew I was pregnant 4 days before period due and tests were showing negative and all the way through to conclusion wether its 6, 13 or 40 weeks.
Best wishes and good luck to all fellow knicker checkers, I'll race you to the bathroom.

MrsGazebo · 13/12/2009 23:34

Yeah! I'm not mad! LOL
I'm currently 6 weeks, early scan showed heartbeat, this will be my 6th pregnancy.
I'm taking part in a double blind trial for uNK cell research so I hope I'm on the steriods rather than placebo. We've not got a heartbeat before so even though we've a looooonnng way to go it's looking brighter.
I'm so glad I'm not alone with the Knicker checking! I feel like I'm going crazy!
BIG sticky baby dust to you all xxx

alana39 · 14/12/2009 14:34

Hi mrsseed and mrsgazebo congratulations and welcome - hope you have a long stay here. It's not usually this quiet, must be the time of year. I had just come onto the computer for a catch up in the first lull of the day, but can hear DS3 stirring (loudly!) as I type.

Health visitor has just suggested dummies - have managed to avoid them with my other 2, but this one is just so sucky I can't get him off me. Has anyone managed to use them temporarily with success? The problem is probably my attitude to them, think I'm worried about having a toddler sucking a dummy rather than trying to talk (DS2 was like this only with a muslin - yuk) but would like to try something to get a break. At the moment I'm feeding all day and it feels like all the down time is spent clearing away the excess that's passed out the other end .

mrsseed · 16/12/2009 10:46

I had the same attitude and fears to you to dummies. Mine was sucky too, so used one, but whipped it out when I figured she'd had enough or had gone to sleep. essentially ration its use! I used it as an aid for sleep mainly (apart from first few months when really sucky). After that it stayed in the cot with me removing from her mouth once asleep but leaving it next to her in case she woke up. Got rid of completely on 2nd birthday when put her into 'big bed' and said big girls dont use dummies -took about 2 minutes longer than ususal for her to get to sleep!
Essentially there is a big difference in their use and a lot more 'hidden use' such as mine than you realise. I suspect the todlers using them during the day is more because of the parents not being bothered than the kid wanting it (I may make some enemies by saying that, but I'm allowed my own opinion)

MaHobbit · 16/12/2009 15:55

Erm, used one and it helped. Sprout still has one for sleep times only (hands them over when we go downstairs after nap/in morning (21 months now). Can't yet say how giving up will be but we use them on limited basis and apart from a short phase when he lost them and needed help to find another in the night they have been great. He breastfed to nearly 14 months too - was gonna say no trouble, but actually only the usual stuff.

scarlotti · 17/12/2009 13:38

alana have used them with all 3 of mine, keep it to sleep times only when they're bigger, the dummy lives in the bed and isn't allowed out. I can't stand (sorry to anyone!) toddlers wandering around with one in their mouths. We then leave it out for santa to take for the babies, who then leaves a cuddly toy to help them get to sleep. I suspect there are a lot of children who have them for sleeping that you just don't know about as they don't have them in the day.

Welcome to all the newbies I too found the help and support on this thread invaluable, especially through the first 12 weeks. It is a long stretch but do post here with any concerns as it's so much better to share and know it's not just you in that boat.

Buckler · 18/12/2009 12:05

Had scan today 7 wks and 4 days and everything normal!! Still a long way to go!! Fingers crossed for the next five weeks.

Allthe8s · 18/12/2009 12:54

Can I join you knicker checkers??

Good luck to all you ladies out there!

Got BFP on Tues, 4+3 I think. This is my 3rd. DD1 is 3yrs and lost DD2 MC @ 21 week in May this year

I am excited but anxious. This is the earliest I have found out and the road seems so long ahead!

mrsseed · 18/12/2009 13:55

Got the guts up to go and see the doc today and ask for an early scan (7+weeks)- he is going to ask midwife to arrange - then got bullied into booking in with midwife and to start believing this could work! (Bullied in a nice way!) Still a bit hesitant but I guess its formal now.
