Hi again,

I have been lurking because I'm not sure how to feel at the moment. I had an early private scan Monday after a spell of spotting at around week 5. I am now 8+4. I don't think I have ever been so terrified as I was when I was waiting for the image to appear on the screen adn for a second I felt like I'd made the whole thing up! Anyway, I have been told it is all fine. They detected a heartbeat of 178bpm which sounds very high but they said is normal. They were at pains to say this didn't mean everything would be fine just that it was ok for this stage of development. So good news but will feel more confident when I've had the 12 week scan. So not ready to graduate to the air passengers list yet.

I hope everyone else is doing well.

vinocollapso · 19/11/2009 20:43

Middledaughter - that's great news, and I really understand your anxiety. I guess we're not called the gusset watching brigade for nothing!

Would you mind if I asked you a couple of questions? Did you go for a private scan at 8 weeks?

Only I was told by my GP today that I wouldn't be able to have a scan until 12 weeks due to them being very busy - despite the EPU assuring me I could, to put my mind at rest.

My last pg ended at 11 weeks, with the estimated death of the little fella at about 7 weeks. Understandably a scan at 8 would really reassure me! Especially before Christmas.

Also, when did you start getting morning sickness, if at all? I've had some mild sea-sickness/wooziness but not much.

Sorry to drone on...it's the anxiety!

Vino x

Middledaughter · 20/11/2009 09:37

Hi Vino,

yes I did have a private scan. I went on the recommendations of a friend and went up to London to the Feteal Medicine Centre on Harley St. For £100 they do an 'Early Viability Scan'. They check the heartbeat measure the head to bottom and some other stuff but the really nice thing was I didn't have to wait at all.

I was incredibly nervous and they called me in for my appt exactly on time.

It has really helped me but I still don't feel out of the woods until the 12 week scan. I was very pleased I did it.

Good luck.

Middledaughter · 20/11/2009 09:38

Sorry Vino I also meant to say I have felt very queasy but have never actually been sick. I certainly didn't feel queasy until about 6 weeks. I am completely knackered all the time though!

alana39 · 20/11/2009 12:07

Hi Vino and good to see you back Middledaughter. I had a private scan this time as my nhs appointment still hadn't come through by 12 weeks - although it was the only time in 3 pgs I was kept waiting (for an hour, with a full bladder but still worth it for some temporary reassurance before I started worrying again.

On the sickness front I had 2 pgs with no more than nausea, so if you're lucky it won't go onto the full scale vomiting everywhere I had with DS3.

Hope everyone else is well, haven't as much time to sit in front of MN all the time now - not on 3 1/2 hours sleep anyway. DS3 has his most wide awake period between 1am and 3am unfortunately.

Ciara11 · 20/11/2009 12:50

Crunch Yes your right, not long now, cant believe it, it seems like yesterday that i had just found out i was pregnant and now 6 weeks to go

The sleep is the main problem at the moment, trying to do a full days work when having broken sleep is not easy, Oh well only4 and half weeks at work [hmmm]

Hope you and Polly are doing well.

Welcome to Vino and MiddleDaughter i had an early scan at about 9 weeks on NHS to check everything and it def eased my mind a bit (well until i came home that is )

Hope Blondie is doing ok, when do you start maternity leave?

TTFN

vinocollapso · 20/11/2009 12:59

Thak you, Middledaugher, Ciara and Alana, that's put my mind at rest.

At only 5 weeks I'm not expecting any major nausea, but hopefully a little bit will creep in, if only to reassure me! Tiredness, yes, that's a definite!

I shall keep my fingers crossed for you (and everyone else) until you hit 12 weeks.

xx

cornflakegirl · 20/11/2009 14:08

Just popping in to say congrats to Scarlotti and alana - fab news - well done both of you. alana - hope you get more settled on the sleep front soon.

Good luck to everyone else.

MaHobbit · 22/11/2009 20:15

Good to see new people. My scan was OK but not as great as I hoped. Couldn't see heart or face properly - which is no problem just need a re-scan.

Unfortunately my placenta is quite low down. The most likely outcome is that it will resolve by itself but if not it will be a bit of a bugger for me. The thought of knicker watching for bleeds in the second and third trimesters doesn't bless me one bit.

Ho hum.

vinocollapso · 23/11/2009 07:21

Sorry to hear that, Mahobbit - hope you're feeling ok and am sure all will be ok.

blondieminx · 24/11/2009 10:16

Hi all

Aaaah congratulations to Scarlotti and Alana on the new arrivals, well done It's fab to hear of KC's actually having thier babies - gives the rest of us hope that it will hopefully be ok this time!

Vino welcome to the thread hun

Ciara I think by the sounds of things we're packing up at the same time - Friday 18th Dec? I'm doing 4 day weeks as from this week though which is nice!

NCT classes are going well and we are slowly but surely getting the nursery ready. Just off to post a query on the Employment board though - my dept are looking to make a promotion within the team, in my speciality but with applications due in 3 weeks before my mat leave is supposed to start so I somehow doubt my application will be considered seriously so I'm not sure whether to bother . But i guess in about 7 weeks time I'll have much more important things to work on if all goes well . Oh and BlondieBaby has FINALLY turned, yipee

MaHobbit · 25/11/2009 11:58

In my happy place today.
Vino hope you're well and just about having the right number of symptoms to reassure you.

Midwife much more positive about placenta moving than sonographer was - and I've chosen to believe her.

Been getting lots of wiggles but having a quiet day today.

I might even be enjoying this pregnancy lark - but don't tell anyone in case it makes things go wrong.

blondieminx · 25/11/2009 14:02

Ah glad to hear it MaHobbit

A girl I work with had a low lying placenta with her first, and it moved round quickly. It might even move in time for when you are scanned again with any luck!

How is everyone?

Ciara11 · 27/11/2009 12:49

Blondie Glad to hear that LO hs finally turned, thats good news for you.
And sounds like you are sorting things out with the nursery, mine is now done, just need to wash the clothes/bedding etc

I finish on Wed 23rd December, at our christmas lunch, so am looking forward to that.

Had my 34+3 week midwife appointment today and LO is right up to my ribs now and had still down by pelvis, so she reckons that he hasnt got anywhere else to grow, so will engage early - not sure if thats good or bad - any ideas anyone?

Although she said that doesnt mean he will come early as can be engaged for weeks before he turns up.

Glad to hear you are feeling better Mahobbitt

Big hugs to all on this thread

Ciara11 · 27/11/2009 16:55

I cant believe how quiet this thread is now, what with everyone now having their little ones.

Good luck to all of you, new and old

blondieminx · 29/11/2009 23:05

It is getting quiet on here eh.

Oh Ciara it's ovely getting the nursery done isn't it. DH just has to fit our blackout blind nd put up the new lampshade then we are all done! . Have fun washing all the clothes and bedding, I got all emtional the first time I did a load of babygros etc, I couldn't believe that after all this time we are really having an actual baby , and the smell of that Fairy fabric conditioner is LOVELY! It won't be long before we're joining the others over on the postnatal thread eh!

How is everyone?

Well good news over here at BlondieTowers, we have (as the weekend posting will show!) finally got BT to sort out our broadband. Well, in the sense we can now get connected and get a speed of 2.5MB, woooh! Only thing is now the house phone is up the creek so I think we'll have to have the engineer back again. Am pushing for a refund as we've had so many problems with it over the last 3 months.

Oh and I got got really brave and posted on the breastfeeding board. Am wondering if the thryroid medication I'm on will affect things (does that make me a boob-fretter as well as a knicker-checker)?

alana39 · 30/11/2009 10:42

Hello everyone, sorry it is much more difficult to waste time on MN with a baby with permanently open mouth!

Well done Ciara and Blondie on sorting out nurseries - after 3 years of the older boys sharing and having a junk spare room we still haven't got round to sorting it out for the baby. Just as well you need to keep them in with you for 6 months, that should give us just enough time to work out where the washing, ironing, every random thing that doesn't have a proper home can go.

Hopefully a quiet thread means lots of happy secure pregnancies going on out there

blondieminx · 30/11/2009 11:03

Hi Alana, lovely to see you! Hope things are going well and that if the baby has a permanently open mouth he's thriving

I don't know about Ciara but I am hoping to put the baby for his/her naps during the day in the nursery but overnight the baby will be in a moses basket (which is all set up) next to our bed.

Got on the scales last night - no wonder turning over in bed seems a massive effort - I've gone from being 9st to 11 and a half stone and still have 6 weeks to go! Eeeek!

Ciara11 · 30/11/2009 16:38

I can imagine that it is Alana what with your little one after feeding/changing all the time. I was just thinking that we have very few newbies on here, maybe they have started their own threads

Blondie Im like you and will have little one in moses in our room, although nursery is ready for as and when required.
But your right, it does seem lovely washing the small clothes the first time, although we might get fed up with all the washing required when little one is here - nah maybe not
I have 5 weeks to go (tomorrow) and have put on about 1 and half stone but its all bump - people keep asking me if its twins and am now getting to the very tired part.
But your right not long now and we will be on the post natal thread - i cant wait

Hope things are going well for all those on the postnatal thread and warm wishes to all the newbies.

scarlotti · 30/11/2009 19:30

Hi all

Glad to hear all the good news with scans and late pregnant ladies

Like alana am not getting as much time to mn although it sounds like I've been lucky as am getting a little more sleep. Ioan does 3 hour stretches between night time feeds so am managing around 6 hours a night, just in 2 chunks!

Ciara I put on 3 stone in the end! Madness. Luckily a lot was fluid so now at 3 weeks I am only carrying an extra half a stone from when I started. Sadly I was already carrying more than I'd have liked then so it's still going to be an uphill struggle!!

Blondie I used to put DS1 up in his nursery for naps with the blackout curtains. He slept brilliantly there ... but wouldn't settle anywhere else then, like his pram etc. when we were out. So with DS2 I'm putting him in his pram in the hallway for naps as then I can get out and about still if I want. Night time is the hammock in our room in the dark.

Rosa333 · 01/12/2009 13:45

Hello all - great to hear that everyone is getting on well.

This is a bye bye post from me as I am headed overseas for the next few months and, while there is the internet where I am going, I will probably not have access to it very often.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU to all for all the support and encouragement you have given me over the past 18 weeks (18 + 2 now. Things were really tough in the beginning and while I am still guilty of knicker checking occasionally I would say by in large I feel confident in this pregnancy now.

So, thank you!

I hope that things continue to go well for everyone and that 'oldies' have wonderful births/times with their babies and 'newbies' make it through those first few scary weeks that seem to go on forever.

Good luck and take care !

scarlotti · 01/12/2009 16:10

Rosa good luck with your overseas trip and am so pleased that your knicker checking is now a lot less I think the 20 week scan was the real turning point for me in terms of gusset watching!

Look forward to hearing from you when you get back

alana39 · 02/12/2009 11:53

Rosa glad you are feeling confident, will you be back here before the birth? Hope everything continues to go smoothly

Scarlotti we're almost up to 6 hours sleep, or would be if I could force myself to go to bed at 10 but however tired I am there is usually something to watch on TV until 10 and then have to get showered as there is never enough time before getting to school.

Is the feeding going better now? I'm still having random problems with latching on to the right side for some reason. All fine so far today, but yesterday was hard. Can't quite understand what's going on but at least it's not all the time!

scarlotti · 03/12/2009 11:03

alana I head upstairs at 10 and tend to manage to get to sleep around 10:45 once I've topped him up and got myself sorted. Last night I ignored the 3am muttering and he slept through until 4am. He didn't even wake up properly then for feeding so am wondering if he could have made it through a bit longer. Not sure at what age you can just let them sleep - surely nopw he's 3.5 weeks I don't have to keep waking him to feed?!

Feeding going well and he put on 12oz last week so he's getting enough I guess!

Had to do the nursery run this morning - don't know how you manage that every morning. DS1 up at 6:15 and I just felt like it was all so rushed to get out of the door
