Hi folks,

Anyone gone private for an early scan? you can't get an early reassurance scan in my area but there is a company - healthcarenow ltd in Edinburgh - that offer early scans from 7-11 weeks for £55.

Anyone been for something similar or know of another route?

I am also having HcG levels done next week but I would like the reassurance of an early scan since I m/c at 8.5 weeks (discovered at 11wks) last time.

Hope you're all having fun , I've got a cold too and have just had a delicious nutritious bowl of supernoodles for tea [self-pitying emoticon]

Vio - there's not a bad dim sum place here in Edinburgh (probably not a patch on HK) - Rainbow Arches on Morrison St. We often take dd there for sunday lunch. DH is half chinese so keen to teach her to like "proper" chinese food! Last we went she was tucking into squid - not bad for a 21 month old .

Glad to hear you had a good, if rather sedate night last night!!! Am at you all being dolled up and sparkly.

D'you think we need to start a new scottish thread in the ante-natal section, so other scottish mums-to-be can find us?

weewishyouamerryonion · 09/12/2006 21:30

Vio · 11/12/2006 13:31

hi everyone!! Had a great time Friday nighte, was lovely seeing you all again..

Finally bought a pram after speaking to you girls. yes, nursery is the next thing now..got to get started...went to Glasgow Pram centre, staff was excellent, very nice...finally bought a chicco Trio enjoy...its a pram, with a car seat...can be converted into a push chair, comes with a changing bag as well...just thought it ticks all the boxes and also tried if it fits the car, it does so we paid the deposit...they said will arrive on 15 Mar , my due date is 22 Apr so i guess that should be fine.

Any idea bout nursery furniture? i saw a M & P set from the Pram centre...thinking of getting them..3 piece of nursery furniture...have compared the price with the M & P catalogue..Pram centre is about £100 cheaper so think we are likely to buy the set.

geordiemacmincepie · 11/12/2006 14:18

Thats the pram that I am going for too...

As regards to furniture, just my opinion but I dont really think these "nursery sets" are worth the money... we are going to buy a cot, but are going to get a set of drawers from a normal furniture store... ikea, mfi or somewhere.. I dont think we are going to bother with a wardrobe, firstly cos we have a large cupboard in the nursery to put things like nappis and other stuff in and secondly... more importantly how much baby stuff, even more so baby boy stuff actually needs hanging up? None that I've seen... which means you have a huge big wardrobe with tiny little trousers hanging in.. probably as much stuff as you could fit in a drawer?

Not sure what people with children think but lots of people have told me that they very rarely change the baby on the changing table thats on top of the drawers... the floor is much handier, or bed.

Just my thoughts mind you, I might be completely wrong.. but we are going to wait a while before we buy a wardrobe... and use the space we are going to save to have one of those gliding chairs that they had in the pram centre... which they sell on e-bay for half the price btw... and are sooooooooooo comfy!!

weewishyouamerryonion · 11/12/2006 17:22

GMM - agree with you about nursery furniture. i think that whilst it all may look lovely - it is way overpriced for what you get and more importantly what you will actually use it for. we are going to do more of a mix and match ourselves to get what best suits us and the space we have.

vio- good news on getting yrselfs sorted with the pram - dos it all feel very real now??

Vio · 12/12/2006 13:04

hi girls, GMM-shared your view with my hushand, he thinks you've got a good point about the wardrobe...so we have to re-think about it....one thing i know i will definitely get is the glider chair..think we are going to Babiesrus to have a look..

The Chicco pram we've got ( its a blue & White colour one) it comes with a carrycot...as it has a carrycot...it can be used as a moses basket i suppose....i am now thinking if i should get a moses basket ?? i love moses basket ( just love the look really, maybe i am not being realistic)...

geordiemacmincepie · 12/12/2006 13:41

They have the glider chairs direct from the manufacturer on ebay for £100, as opposed to £350 in Mamas and Papas... yeah, its the same as the one we have decided on, only we are going for the green and grey I think? We were thinking about a moses basket but will probably use the carry cot.. moses baskets are lovely but usually only last for 3 or 4 months before baby gets too big?

There is a thread on here somewhere about things thats were invaluable for a baby, lots of posts from mums giving opinions about what stuff they found useful and what they didnt.. might be helpful?

geordiemacmincepie · 12/12/2006 13:47

thread is called what to buy/avoid buying for a baby.. the last post was on the 19th Nov so its quite far down this page

Anjo1 · 12/12/2006 13:54

hi everyone ! great seeing you all on Friday, had a lovely evening .
Manchester was great as well , Panto was a laugh !!and dinner was lovely , honestly ate so much!!!
GMM- how was Newcastle ? hope you had a nice time .
Vio - great about finding the right pram ,have to say I agree with the others about the furniture , you are better off buying ordinary furniture . moses baskets are really cute aren't they , so hard to resist !

off to get my Christmas tree today yay!! maybe that will get me all christmasy ,which I've been finding hard because of all the anticipation for February , so i'm going to get mince pies and put a christmas CD on and get all Jingly bells with it

trixymalixy · 12/12/2006 22:57

Hurray, our nursery is finished and we've just put up the nusery furniture.

Got this range from gpc:

furniture

we were just going to buy a separate cot and chest of drawers, but didn't work out much cheaper than just buying this set.

Was in the day unit yesterday getting my blood pressure monitored and it's down thankfully and I can fit my shoes on again. Bad news is that I have to go back to work tho .

Also got my first stretch marks appearing .

BTW I saw an advert in the back of a pregnancy magazine for glider chairs for £84.99. I'll try to find it as it had a web address. We don't have room for one unfortunately.

trixymalixy · 12/12/2006 23:01

glider chair

bananasarny · 13/12/2006 14:23

Hi all,

Glad you all had a good night out!

That glider chair looks very good and good price, I've seen a very expensive one similar around £300! which is mad! Cant remember the brand, but looks exactly the same.

John Lewis seem quite reasonable no more expensive than anyone else for cots etc, their customer service is good.

How long is everyone planning on working till?

Is Lolly in hosp?

I've got 2 pregnancy magazines and bought 1 book so far detailing the first year and its a really small book - wonder if I'll have a panick attack all of a sudden and go on a spending spree!!

I've done nothing, got to decorate nursery (well whole house really) get furniture look into prams the lot, only a few prams have the pushchair part that faces inwards towards you, not really keen on outward all the time especially when too young, cant see whats going on.

Hope the need to get things done kicks in soon, prob will after Xmas!!

geordiemacmincepie · 13/12/2006 14:34

Was reading a post on here yesterday about the glider chair, apparently its not great for breast feeding once the baby is a few months old as the arms get in the way and make it difficult to get the right position... having said that - I have sat in it and it is soooooooooooooo comfy, it would be worth getting for relaxing and getting the baby off to sleep in...

Can throughily recommend the glasgow pram centre near the barras for prams and nursery furniture.. a lot more choice and better priced than m&p up at the fort!!

I have only just started buying stuff now I know I'm having a boy...its starting to feel very real!

I bought a magazine from WHSmiths called "I'm pregnant" its really good and covers everything from conception (bit late for that now ) to feeding and such like... also bought dp a book called "your'e pregnant too mate" which is aimed at men and is quite funny!!

Weather is really awful at the moment.. most depressing!!!

Have you started to feel the baby tickle yet?

Vio · 13/12/2006 17:18

hiya,........weather is extremely bad!!!!

yes, same here, after the scan..knowing its a boy...it starts to feel v.real..!!!

Start thinking about nursery now...honestly..have to have everything ready by Mar..3 months from now..

My boy kicks me harder than he did before...his big sis said..baby will be a Man utd footballer!!! hope so..

lollipopz · 13/12/2006 21:24

Hiya no am still here but definitely gonna be soon, having contractions still, saw midwife today, and they wont let me go past nxt wed, as baby is already roughly 8lbs!
Just gonna see how things progress till then, at least the end is in sight!!

Vio · 13/12/2006 22:50

goodluck, lollipopz!
