Hi folks,

Anyone gone private for an early scan? you can't get an early reassurance scan in my area but there is a company - healthcarenow ltd in Edinburgh - that offer early scans from 7-11 weeks for £55.

Anyone been for something similar or know of another route?

I am also having HcG levels done next week but I would like the reassurance of an early scan since I m/c at 8.5 weeks (discovered at 11wks) last time.

Do you have a due date yet, I've been given 10 May, I know its not a definate tho.

geordiemacmincepie · 06/12/2006 16:39

She'd be handing out the cigars!!!! No, your'e right though - she is lovely - unless I am dying I wont go and see anyone else!!!

Been given 3 different dates - 29th April, 1st May and 4th May.... like you said, it'll come when its cooked!!!!

I think May is going to be a lovely time to have a baby!!! Is it your first too?

bananasarny · 06/12/2006 16:44

She's so fab, yes and we would be smoking the cigars not the men!!

Yes this is my first, after being told slim chance!! I took agnus cactus for ages, I'm pretty damn sure that had something to do with it! HOw about you, this your first bub? I worked out 4th or 7th May for myself (with my long cycles that is!) but yes, when cooked!

geordiemacmincepie · 06/12/2006 16:53

Awh thats really nice, I had a m/c in june so was extra pleased to concieve too!!!

Yep, first one for me, although my dp has a dd and ds from his first marriage!

weewishyouamerryonion · 06/12/2006 19:27

hey bananasrany - hello to you. sorry if we confused with the change of names - festive fever has hit us!!!!!!

like the sound of yr doc - bit more realistic than the "this si teh most precious bundle you will ever carry therfore do not have a life nor a need in 9mths" kind. a pal o fmine had a baby last year and she brought her champagne into the labour suite. had a glass o bubbly about 1/2 hr after birth. i think i'll want gin!

weewishyouamerryonion · 06/12/2006 20:52

Really pleased for you Vio.... I was really excited about my scan but now its today I'm absolutely sh*tting myself... everyone at work keeps asking me about it... told them all that we arent allowed to talk about it as it just makes me even more nervous!!!!!

Have you thought of any names yet vio?

lollipopz · 07/12/2006 09:31

Hi all, glad you are all getting lovely news at your scans, Geordie good luck tonight!
Well just wanted to let you know am fed up! 38 weeks now and really ready for baby! Its kinda hard planning for xmas when i dont know if he'll be here or not!! Tried a few things, seem to get contractions for a couple of hours then they stop!!
Any way have a lovely night on friday x

geordiemacmincepie · 07/12/2006 09:36

Good luck too, hopefully he'll make an appearance soon!!!!

lollipopz · 07/12/2006 09:45

I hope so, because dd was 9 days early I had convinced my self I'd have my baby for xmas, now am not so sure and panicking a bit as went mad and bought some my 1st xmas clothes, that obv wont fit next year lol! also dont want to be sitting eating xmas dinner with the whole family and my waters go or something! lol. x

bananasarny · 07/12/2006 11:57

Hi all, thanks merryonion, I get confused with all these threads! I think I might have to start taking some omega 3 for the brain - my cousin told me eat walnuts - (better with a beer!!) Yes we've got cool doc, they're pretty rare tho! Dont like the ones that are so ...formal you cant talk to them.

Lollipoz, awww , have you tried any alternative stuff like reflexology or accupuncture etc - my husband does shiatsu massage and there are certain points that trigger labout?? Want me ask him for you? Have you tried raspberry leaf tea?

Good luck with your scan Geordie , think the scary thing is when they are quietly looking and you think, god have they seen something! But you'll be gobsmacked! Look forward to hearing how it went. And have a chat about Viewpark - my next appointment with C (MW)is 18 Dec with Consultant - McMurray - Have you met him?

Vio, thats lovely about your scan, I'm waiting for surprise, I'm pretty convinced its male tho for some reason!

Excuse the blunt question, but are you a Hong Konger and your hubby from here? I lived in HK for 6 years, god I miss the food!! You just cant get a good chinese here - better to make yourself!! Are you settled here? Or are you Home sick? I was in HK in September as a stop over, I ate like a pig! I used to live in Wanchai then Tin Shui Wai.

A friend of mine who is Scottish, his wife is HK and the children are gorgeous, lovely complexions and one of the boys had blonde and black hair with greenish eyes, fine features, he is stunning, will break a few hearts that one!!

Just a query for everyone, I had a scan at 17/18 weeks at Wishaw which is basically the 20 week scan, were you all offered this or not or did you opt go for private + 3D scans - sorry bit behind!

Also just a tip, but if you go to a search engine and key in 'Student Midwives Sanctuary', theres a debate and discussion forum on it. You can learn so much!! Some of it is a bit of a scary read , but if you want to get some inside info is very good!! They probably dont appreciate nosey parkers but its there for all to look at!

lollipopz · 07/12/2006 12:04

Hi Banana thanx, would be good, i have heard there are certain pressure points that can help start contractions, ie the ankle, but can't find anything on the internet that doesn't want you to pay for the info, so anything you know would be great, meanwhile i am back to scrubbing my floors and walking up and down the stairs for no apparant reason!! Lol xx

geordiemacmincepie · 07/12/2006 12:14

Ooooh questions questions questions!!!

I'm with McMurray too, but no, havent met him or her... dont suppose I will until d day....

We have all had to pay for private scans here I think... mines is £150 which is a lot but worth it for the peace of mind.. hopefully!!!

Oooh shiatsu massage? Thats sounds like something I could do with at the moment... had a car accident a few years ago, still get pains in my neck and shoulders.. also since about 12 weeks I have been getting shooting type pains in hip leg and bum... I mentioned on here a while ago and someone mention scaitia?

Really starting to worry about scan now, I know I shouldnt but cos I havent felt the little one move so much today am just thinking the worst.. typical me!!

The chinese take away in Bothwell is nice, although sure it doesnt compare to the real thing!!!! I'm more of an italian foodie!!!

God today really is dragging....

bananasarny · 07/12/2006 12:15

Hi Lolly, are you nesting? Friend of mine who is a midwife, unfortunately in Australia, told me, last month, sit on straight back chairs, scrub the floor as you are doing, watch the tele on all fours! This is to make sure that babe is in good position! Wonder if will power will do it??

I will ask my husband for you no problem, he is in his final year shiatsu (3rd year of study) and has to work on so many bodies to qualify. We have people trekking through the house at the moment for treatments! No charge as he needs bodies! Usually these points are specifically avoided because can cause miscarriage, but usefully to bring on labour - will try to let you know today if not tomorrow - will ask him.

I know there is a window of quite a few weeks isnt there, so you could be awaiting another 1 or 2....husbands friend was 3 weeks late!!

bananasarny · 07/12/2006 12:20

Hi Geordie,

Yes well hubby is very good at sciatica neck, shoulder head aches, better than paracetamol! I think he's doing a 'pregnancy' course in Feb, but he did something on that already ...I can ask him for you, welcome to come over to house for treatment, you cant be far away, we live on Moorlands estate by the two schools. I will ask him for you too! [wink.

PS I know I hate flippin work at the mo, I dont want to be here, when are you thinking of mat leave?

bananasarny · 07/12/2006 12:41

Geordie, how come you havent met the midwife yet? I've been for 2 appts now, saw stand in midwife, then Cathy. I have to say I came out of that appt and felt sorry for the people behind me......mmm treat wating for you. Wishaw told me that McMurray was good...will see

geordiemacmincepie · 07/12/2006 13:36

I've had 2 midwife appointments but neither were with my midwife - both stand ins!!!

That sounds wonderful. Thanks!! Not sure where moorlands is, I'm just off spindlehowe road on the way up to tannochside.

Yep, with you on the work thing.... I'm just so bored!!! I'm a contractor so will be working as long as possible as I wont get maternity pay, having said that, I've had my contract extended until the 31st March... might be a nice time to stop then I think.. just chill out a bit.. hopefully the little one will be a wee bit early!!

Do you drive into town or get the train? I'm quite lucky, as I work on the busines park at high blantyre so its not much of a drive!!

lollipopz · 07/12/2006 13:39

Yeah it could be up to another 3 weeks, I have my last antenatal on the 19th, and she told me they would consider induction if she thought i was going to go over xmas!
That would be great if you could ask him banana!
Yeah I am really nesting taking abucket of hot water and fairy liquid all round the house scrubbing at everything!! Think I might put the tree up later! take care xx

geordiemacmincepie · 07/12/2006 13:46

Hey you can come round and clean for me if you are bored!!! Serious case of cant-be-bothered-itus at the moment!!!!!

I was born 4 days after xmas... nut you probabaly dont want to hear that!!

bananasarny · 07/12/2006 13:49

Geordie - dont worry re your scan, I feel movement then none - prob kipping, some people have no movement at all until 20 something weeks.
Have asked Hubby re shiatsu, no prob to work on what you have, but he wont work on you until you are well past 20 weeks (heading for that arent you) but he's fully booked until after Xmas, New Year, so after that if you want.. also a bit safer with stage of pregancy prob.

PS: We wont get same midwife/consultant on d day necessarily, think get who given!

Lolly - Husband happy to work on you to kick start - can do it, but no guarantee like anything else. Are you mobile? Are you house bound struggling or can you travel? Need to find that out first before suggesting. We are in Uddingston, otherwise there are people in Glasgow who are good and can do it for you - although they will charge you £30-40. Do you live in Glasgow?

geordiemacmincepie · 07/12/2006 14:03

I know, I'm just a born worrier... I was looking forward to it until today!!!

20 weeks on tuesday, so by the time we get xmas and new year over and done with will be well past 20 weeks... oooo that sounds a bit scary!!!

Have you got anything nice planned for xmas? Do you both have family up here?

bananasarny · 07/12/2006 14:04

Lolly - I was told by midwife that at Wishaw they dont like inductions if they can avoid.. but of course depends on circumstances - but it sounds like the nesting means that you could be there - maybe your waters will go when the champagne cork goes at Xmas! My sis in law was born Xmas day! I'm a Dec baby too (you get joint Xmas/B'day presents its CRAP!

Geordie, do you know Uddingston train station and High Street, I'm 5 mins from there. Yes I get train into Glasgow in morn...only ones with seats tho!!
