Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It was W Churchill who said that the civilisation of a society can be judged by the way it treats its prisoners, and I'm with Winnie on that. I get sick to the stomach hearing of what some people do. and let others do, to children. But I get the same sort of sick feeling when I see the ugly mob gathering to tear them to pieces. Whether the victim is a guilty repulsive child-killer or an innocent baby, the urge comes from the same place within us and it's not pretty in any of its guises.

So sure, keep such people - those who perpetrate apalling acts and know what they are doing - separate from other prisoners to avoid further violence; feed, clothe and educate them, but don't release them. If they come to any sort of real understanding about what they have done they must also, surely, see that they have forfeited their right to freedom. And if they don't - well, they'll end their sorry lives in ignorance. But we - this society - won't have blood on its hands.

johnworf · 11/08/2009 20:39

I read that the stepfather and his brother tortured their grandmother to get her to change her will and this was when they were minors. I know that they had a brutal upbringing. I am unsure how you can rehabilitate someone to whom violence is an integral part of their personality.

JJ that poo story will stay with me. In her hands? By the bookcase? Blimey.

heron22 · 11/08/2009 20:40

hi ladies, been very busy but need to say that i want those 3 people hunted down and killed. since there is no hanging/firing squad in this country.

some crimes are just too heinous. they do not deserve to breath for another second.

mrsboogie · 11/08/2009 21:10

I know that the worst punishment of all is for them to be locked up forever and to spend ever day watching their backs and that is what I hope for them.

well we found out that the £300 quote for windows was a mistake -thought as much. the bloke was on his first job and measured up wrong!!! I will say no more...

jj yucky poo story -not looking forward to that type of shenanigans!!

jeanjeannie · 11/08/2009 21:20

Blimey mrsB you could have got windows for the same price as jw's curtains Mind, they're not just any old curtains....they're M&S curtains

johnworf · 11/08/2009 21:30

You know JJ I was thinking the very same thing!

johnworf · 11/08/2009 21:32

Did I mention that the out of stock kaftan I ordered from White Stuff came? Well it did. I wore it on sunny Sunday. I felt like Margot Leadbetter swanning around the place. heh.

JERRY!!!

hedgepig · 11/08/2009 21:44

OH dear does this mean the measuring up man is looking for a new job MrsB??

Is the Kaftan all floaty and comfy JW Floria good luck on the diet, I had great intentions in January and am still scoffing biccies . My fiend has joined weight watchers and is doing well with it but she has to work aout what she can and can't eat with a calculator which seems a bit odd to me. My hairdresser swears by slimming word, and she is thin which is good I suppose.

jeanjeannie · 11/08/2009 21:51

jw LOL@Margot Leadbetter.....I just don't see your DH as JERRY!! On the other hand, I reckon given a flowing maxi-dress I could do a very good Miss Mountshaft

mrsboogie · 11/08/2009 21:52

we don't yet know the fate of the measuring man...

johnworf · 11/08/2009 22:00

No, DH is def not a Jerry. More of an Alf Garnet.

I keep seeing Robert Peston popping up. At this rate he is going to have to join my list of shaggable men. Blimey, I have quite a big list now. If only I had the energy for one of them.

hedgepig · 11/08/2009 22:16

JW the window man may have some time on his hands top travel over to you so you won't need as much energy

I'm trying a new trick with O to get more sleep tonight after he had had his tea (which actualy he ate reasonably well for him tongigh) I gave him lots of baby cereal so hopefully he will be full up and not wake up (fingers crossed) . If this doesn't work Tee you may find A swapped for a 10 month old .

johnworf · 11/08/2009 22:37

Nah hedgepig The window man isn't clever enough for my liking. He can't even price up how much a new window costs.

Well done on getting O to eat. K is still waking around 1am topping herself up as she eats like a sparrow.

She can now stand up in her Tripp Trapp so I think the time has come to take the baby set bar off the front and put the harness on instead. She's like a bloody meerkat up and down in it

hedgepig · 11/08/2009 22:45

Ollie stated that as well, I'm going to keep the baby set on but lower the foot plate a notch or 2, so he can't push himself up as high. I have just put some normal baby reigns (I don't think that is the right spelling) on the little shrot straps on him. He has actually grown quite a lot since I put it together 1st time.

FloriaTosca · 11/08/2009 23:08

Crikey Bonzo I do hope M is better very very soon.

LolJW at Miss 'meercat' K. You have no idea how the name Margot Leadbetter makes me cringe, the misery of going to school when that was the best programme on Telly....
oh and If you haven't actually ordered your curtains from M&S then pop up here...Musberry Fabrics is 20yds from my house...can't promise it will be cheaper (if you are like me you'll fall for the most expensive fabric in the place)but there'slots of choice and they do a lovely job...might be worth a glance (and there is a fab coffee shop next door!)

JJ if it makes you feel any better the currently being potty trained dd of one of the women on my antenatal thread actually used the potty but then brought her mother a poo, by hand, asking "what this mummy?"[aaarrgghh emoticon]

johnworf · 11/08/2009 23:14

floria I didn't even think of that place! Praps I can pop up this week, fraid it'll be just me, with all my measurements and price it up? What you say? Coffee and cake (ooops!) in it for ya

Hunts around for the fag packet with the numbers on the back.....

hedgepig guess I could lower the foot plate but then it's all about posture isn't it and that diagram they give you with the knees bent and all that palaver? I'll put the reins on her anyway and keep the little madam still

Off to beddies.............floria let me know.

g'nightxx

Tee2072 · 12/08/2009 08:01

Good morning all.

A slept from 2130 to 0400!! 6 hours of sleep for me!!! He stirred and contemplated waking up at 0200 and 0300 but didn't actually do it. So that's two nights this week he's done this.

Off to the supermarket and Boots this morning. Anyone need anything?

johnworf · 12/08/2009 08:10

'ello all.

Up at 4am this morning, again. Sigh.

Well done tee on your nights sleep.

Hair day today. Woot!

My DS#2 is donating bone marrow today. He always gives blood too. Bless him. Not sure that many 18 year olds would be bothered.

jeanjeannie · 12/08/2009 08:21

Hump day Wednesday everybody

tee blimey SIX hours - you did better than us! Get me some matchsticks to hold my eyes open would you!

jw OMG your ds is such a top bloke....there aren't many people (full-stop) who'd do that.

Enjoy your glossy new locks Mine's like straw again. LOL@meerkat reference! Verity is yet to discover the joys of doing that. She does stand up on her rocking lion and then go so fast she topples over the top of his ears!

floria I feel the poo on the hand is the very next step!

bonzo how is M doing?? Did she have an ok night? x

SIL round today. I think we're going to check out the new Sainsburys superstore...whoop de doo!

johnworf · 12/08/2009 08:55

New supermarket is always good for a nosey but never a cheap day out!

My hair is so greasy I should by rights have a bag over my head. And to top it all, the only day I'm going out in public and K has pinched my neck so it looks like I have a love bite I really have pushed the boat out and gone for the chav look.

Yes, my DS#2 is very altruistic unlike his brother who is the total opposite. He gets his results next week too so I might get him a little something as a well done gift. Saying that, I think he'd rather have beer money to go out celebrating with his friends

We were working out the other day that when I'm 60, DD#1 will be 40 and K will be 18. That's going to be a good party!

heron22 · 12/08/2009 08:55

hi all morning ladies how are you all?

barely caught up with all the posts

bonzo hope M is better soon!

it is grey and about to rain here today! hope the weather where you are is better

jeanjeannie · 12/08/2009 10:18

jw Well, you've got just over 16 yrs to sort it out - I reckon you should get your famed forward planning hat on

heron looking dodgy here too - although it's SO humid.

Tabitha8 · 12/08/2009 10:40

It's raining here. Yuk. May I have the sunshine back, please? Thanks in advance.

johnworf · 12/08/2009 10:42

Not at the planning stage yet JJ. Even I'm not that anal! Was merely a think out loud moment with the kids saying things like 'what?! I'll be 40!' and such like.

It's just plain wet and grey here but it was like this y'day and brightened up during the afternoon before more rain came during the evening. Forecast says wet and windy for the weekend though

heron22 · 12/08/2009 10:43

jj humid here too! tab i want sunshine back too!
