I think I have something similar jw will fish them out. Must also start getting to bed a bit earlier.

good luck with the dye testing - it is important-I never really react to things but I did have a hairdresser which changed the brand of dyes they used and I had t go elsewhere because it used to make my scalp itch like hell and feel tight and swollen.

johnworf · 11/08/2009 11:21

Going back down my family lineage, on my father's side, they were all cotton mill workers. My dad has a diary that his uncle wrote when he was in a Japanese POW camp and he goes over his life as a small chid living in the slums of Manchester. He died quite wealthy and my dad's side isn't short of a bob or two. My mother's side were also cotton workers but they started at the bottom and seemed to love it as they're still there

Social mobility these days is almost frowned upon. I think some people are horrified by it. Still thinking in their naive world that we live in a classless society (whoever coined that phrase was clearly delusional). I'm happy to have moved up and my children reap the benefits. So pleased that they have aspiration and ambition. To have none must be a very bleak life indeed.

And now, I really must pack away my Daily Mail spin and large case of pomposity and be orf.............!

hedgepig · 11/08/2009 13:09

is it lunch time already? where has the morning gone?

Well done Miss V on the pulling up. When should you get them shoes? O is pulling him self up every where and moving along the sofa standing up (is that cruising?) and loves to walk if you hold his hands so should I get some shoes or can it wait a month or so 'til it gets colder? (not that I'm tight or anything )

Sorry you are feeling crappy MrsB I have given the nursery instruction that O had to get all illnesses before Christmas cos I have a whole years leave to use up by the 31 Dec and so can use it up looking after him, from January he is not allowed to get anything

dawntigga · 11/08/2009 13:44

I think it's got more to do with a culture of I deserve x, y or z than anything else. I absolutely blame Margaret Thatcher.

mrsboogie · 11/08/2009 13:48

hmmm...the first part of that should be easy enough to arrange hedgepig- not so sure about the second

not massively looking forward to the winter myself if we are catching this many viruses in summer gawd only knows what level of disease will abound in the winter

I don't think they need shoes at all at this stage - hedgepig not unless walking outdoors. I think at this stage the bootees are purely for decorative purposes/keeping toes warm. Bare feet better for learning to walk.

FloriaTosca · 11/08/2009 13:53

Hello ladies!
That was an interesting read, catching up on the mornings banter...makes me grateful for my parents; Salford Slum raised son of a prewar widow father who got himself apprenticed as a plumber and was the first in his family to have a mortgage and an ok council estate daughter of a road worker mother who trained as a nurse then nursery nurse then Drs receptionist who again was the fist in her family to own her own home...they had me reading at 3 and into the Grammar School at 11 and I was the first in either family to go to university...none of that would have happened if I had been raised by any of their siblings... I am sooo lucky.
JJwoohoo on Vs standing up! Ornaments up on the top shelf now!
Hedgepig I held off on shoes as long as poss...A was cruising at 7 months exactly and walking at 8 months and 1 week but didnt get his first pair of proper shoes until he was 13 months.. Dh has flat feet and I asked a lot of drs/podiatrists etc and general consensus was bare feet as much as possible...(saves you a fortune too!)

Well I bit the bullet and rejoined Slimming World this morning ...if I lose 8.5lb by the end of this month I'll only have 3stones to get rid of ...
...on a positive note however, if I lose the 8.5lb I'll treat myself to a professional de-hoofing....the next stone will be a shopping spree in La Senza (nothing like nice lingere to make you feel good...or is that just my pecadillo)...and if I get down to a size 12 Dh can get me the sapphires he should have brought back from South Africa!!

ermintrude13 · 11/08/2009 13:57

JJ We are going up to Edinburgh to stay in a caravan park next week - DH has some meetings, we will all see some shows and if it rains we are at least off the ground and within walking distance of food (probably chicken in a basket ). The DC will love it. Anyway, it will be a good long run-in for the car which has only done 9000 so far!

JW Ooh a change is as good as a rest, so they say - new hairdresser who actually bothers to patch test sounds very posh, are you going for a new look?

Like lots of ops, my parents were from hardworking families who valued education and they were both the first in their families to go to uni. Karen Matthews et al are not working class - they don't see work as part of their lives. There are still many decent, productive and thoughtful working class people in this country but they don't get much airtime..

(My parents' 6 DC have been a bit of a disappointment on the career front - their son is an opthalmic technician and daughters are a writer, a social housing manager, a university registrar and 2 website managers. None of us earn a half of our dad's salary. That's what comes of being a bit arty/lefty (the girls) and less bright than everyone else (the boy) .

BonzoDoodah · 11/08/2009 14:34

hi all - lovley new thread... sorry had a hectic weekend and only just caught up.

M was coughing and wheezing in the night on Friday night after a couple of weeks of a cold. Sent to the emergency Dr on Saturday and they immediately referred her to the paediatric Dept in the local hospital to be assessed. DH said I'll just call home to get some nappies etc and they said "no go straight there" . She was then put on an oxygen monitor and given ventolin and monitored for 4 hours. All the while I was stuck at home with the baby stressing. Anywayyyy they think she has a virus chest infection and not asthma (like me and DH) but is on the inhaler until she is better. She is getting better but did wake up coughing and shreiking last night but was better after a cuddle and her inhaler. Sheeesh. They're a worry aren't they! Meanwhile her brother has caught her cold and is coughing, sneezing and snuffling and feeding like a demon.
DH has gone back to work after his paternity leave (sob) but his lovely mother is here from Scotland to help out until further notice - phew!

So what's been happening?

jw The Cheadle John Lewis is about 2 miles from where I live so if you're going there you MUST let me know and we can meet up ... come to the house of tiny whingers or I'll meet you there in the cafe! For the satnav put in "Schools hill" or "etchells rd" and it should take you there then as those side roads are just round the corner.

Florida I'll join you in the slimming in a month's time! I have the same amount to lose almost exactly! But I'm having a month of BF and eating what I want first ... then I'm going to get down to losing some weight with the BF this time.

Tee2072 · 11/08/2009 15:56

Oh no bonzo glad M is doing better now. How stressful for you all!!

My mum just got back from holiday and so saw Adam on the webcam for the first time since she left. Her exact words? 'My god, how much does he weight?!?!'

hedgepig · 11/08/2009 16:20

just showing B the smilies

hedgepig · 11/08/2009 16:27

Bonzo poor M hope she is on the mend soon. It sounds like the Dr was on the ball and got you seen quickly, I love the NHS .

BonzoDoodah · 11/08/2009 16:47

Arg - M up from her nap and still coughing and temp of 38C. Waiting for Doc to ring back ... tum tee tum tee tum. [drums fingers]

So go on Tee how much does A weigh?
G was back above his birth weight (at 10lb 10oz) last wednesday so we're not worrying about him fading away.

jw I keep meaning to say about K and her feeding - M was a pain when I weaned her - hence me going on about the baby led weaning -as that's the way she went. Plus she hardly ate anything and went all skinny (and I mean skeletal) . The Health Visitors said she'd eat what she needed and not to stress but to give her food rich in fat if I could so the little she ate was high value. Things M loved were:
breadsticks dipped in houmous, slices of avacado pear, pasta spirals cooked and then cream cheese and pesto sauce stirred into them (excellent finger food) - also spaghetti the same - she looked like a baby OOd when she ate that. Plus really good finger food for sprogs is that frozen mixed veg with it all chopped into pea sized pieces - M loved the peas and sweetcorn, oh and shreddies are good too - I let them soak in the milk till eatable then poured the milk off so they didn't get any more soggy. Hope you don't think this is teaching you to suck eggs - is just stuff that helped me.

johnworf · 11/08/2009 16:49

Crikey. Been busy today ladies haven't you!

ermintrude new hairdressers with new rules. That's all I know. I'm now trying to imagine what hairstyle I can get out of the birds nest on top of my head. I do hope this young man I've got tomorrow is called Jesus.

bonzo bloody hell what a mare! I'd have been frantic not being able to be there too. It's hard when you've got more than one isn't it? We've done this one when K had to go to hospital in the ambulance. DH had to stay here as DSS was in bed. I really hope M is on the mend very soon. Doubt I'll be going to JL for a while as we've shelved the new furniture (see previous thousand posts with the word GPlan in it). Tbh I order most of my stuff from them online which is prolly why I couldn't find the bloody place! The address it gave me was Wilmslow Road but that just took me through the centre of Wilmslow with no JL in sight (I thought it was in Cheadle myself). Hey ho.

floria well done going to Slimming World. I love all your stages of treats. Well, you have got to have some perks of denying yourself.

Don't think babies need shoes until they're properly walking..good job as I remember, they cost a fortune.

johnworf · 11/08/2009 16:50

hedgepig meant to say, I love your pics on FB

johnworf · 11/08/2009 16:52

Oh jebus, my head is not working today. I meant to ask you ladies what are your thoughts on these vile animals being given new identities once they are released? Those being the convicted murderers of the child, Peter.

I was listening to the debate today on R2 with the divine Jezza Vine. There's always one bleeding heart liberal they manage to wheel out to supposedly, balance out the discussion

Tee2072 · 11/08/2009 16:53

He's 12.5 pounds bonzo!! Probably closer to 13 at this point. Who needs weight training? All I have to do is pick up my 2 month old son!!

mrsboogie · 11/08/2009 17:23

gosh he is going to be a big lad tee D is 20lbs at 11 months and is very bleedin' heavy!

jw I'm afraid am able to cast aside my normal liberal attitudes when it comes to those three animals. I was all for the Bulger killers/Maine Carr etc being allowed to rejoin society under new identities but NOT these 3! I don't see how that woman is any different to Myra Hindley (she seems to have been relatively well raised and even has GCSEs) the two men on the other hand are clearly mental and very mentally deficient. Anyway it shouldn't even be an issue because none of them should ever be getting out of jail. If they do get out I sincerely hope they are tracked down and murdered.

bonzo D has had this cough and temperature thing - not sure if it is the same - it vanished when we took him to the doctors. Hope M's turns out to be nothing as well.

floria snap re amount of weight to be lost. its a long old road ahead...

Tee2072 · 11/08/2009 17:39

Well, in the US they would most likely be killed in jail. Baby killers often are. And if they aren't, they do not deserve any new ID or anything else if they are ever released.

mrsboogie · 11/08/2009 17:42

there is certainly a chance of it happening here too tee

duchesse · 11/08/2009 17:58

Well, putting on my legal training hat, re Baby Peter's so called parents- once they have served their time, they are deemed to have repaid their debt to society. The criminal justice system is there to exert a civilising influence on peoples' urges to be uncivilised.

However much we may feel that they do not deserve less than being chopped slowly into little bits, our criminal justice system has decided what an appropriate punishment is for them. We delegate this punishment/ restoration duty to the criminal justice system and trust them to behave fairly and evenly across all the cases they are asked to judge. Adding to this the risk that these people will be hunted down and killed/ lynched when they are released after serving their sentences just drags us back to the Middle Ages, slaughtered in prison by people with a (misplaced if they are prepared to take a life as well) sense of moral outrage and self-righteousness.

So in my (legally trained) view, allowing them to change their identity after release is fair. As long as they are then monitored by the justice system to ensure any subsequent children are not endangered and that they do not end up in a situation where they could repeat their crimes.

OP posts:
johnworf · 11/08/2009 18:56

bonzo I'm sorry I've only just seen your post re BLW and skinny babies. My consultant paediatrician said the same thing; all things high fat value and don't worry about piling on the high calories. I haven't tried the foods you suggested apart from the shreddies but will still keep going with them all.

I'm pretty much resigned that that's the way she is and will be. She's energetic enough so I guess I shouldn't be worrying about it. Weight doesn't mean that much anyway unless they're ill with it. I mean, how many people do you meet as an adult and they say to you 'I was 9lb 5oz when I was born'? shrug

duchesse I believe that when they get out they will have new identities ...in Canada. No idea how they will be monitored there if at all.

bonzo really hope that M is ok when she sees the doc.

M&S have given me the quote for the curtains in the dining room...£300. gulp

mrsboogie · 11/08/2009 18:59

yeah, its all very civilised and fair we are judged as a society by how we treat these people. But I can't help feeling that the woman who walked into the room while her boyfriend was raping her 2 yr old daughter and said not a word to him, and allowed him to do what he did to that baby boy while she surfed the net, and moreover now apparently feels no remorse, and the man who did these things, have no humanity deserving of fairness.

dawntigga · 11/08/2009 19:30

Erm, bleeding heart liberal over here. I don't want to live in a society where we reduce ourselves to the level of these people. I think they should have got life and that should mean that they spend every second of their goddess forsaken lives in an 8 by 4 cell with just themselves for company. No tv, books etc. and minimum food requirements to keep them alive. Being humane can be much more cruel than not.

NowSheKnowsBonzoLivesNearCheadleWonderingIfBonzoIsToPoshToTalkToTheLikesOfMeTiggaxx

johnworf · 11/08/2009 19:41

LOL@bonzo being too posh to talk to dawntigga. dawn you don't sound much like a bleeding heart liberal to me

jeanjeannie · 11/08/2009 20:15

Well, if that's your idea of being a bleeding heart liberal dawn then I'll join you!! I worry that our/Canada (wherever)system will NOT function effectively to deal with these wiley, slimy creatures. Sadly, I think these people are prime candidates for re-offending in their middle years - all under the guise of new identities....and then we'll truck out that well worn phrase..."lessons have been learnt" Ah, but they never are. The road to hell is indeed paved with good intentions.
Personally I think life really needs to mean just that for certain individuals. BTW: can you imagine what those three scumbags have actually cost the tax payer over the years...I bet it's eyewatering....mutter,mutter, mutter

bonzo any news on M? Poor thing - how scary for you all. Let us know how she gets on with the doc...and I'm sure you're not too posh to talk to us at all x

hedgepig yep, I also thought your FB pics were fab. I see you've got the same baby backpack carrier as us...Verity loves snoozing in it.

Knackered again....quelle surprise. Iris decided to have a poo this evening - quietly in the corner..looked round and yep, it's on the bookcase, on her hands....I'll spare you the details......ugh!
