Don'tPostWhenYou'reTiredTiggaxx

johnworf · 09/08/2009 19:50

dawntigga must admit, I didn't have a clue what you were on about (arms? mobiles?)

mrsb we were going to go to JL but couldn't find it Not even the satnav had success. I'll have to ask bonzo when she's next on here as she lives close by to it. I wouldn't mind but I even had the address and put it in the satnav...but it just took us round...and round....and round....

mrsboogie · 09/08/2009 20:03

you could look online jw

I just bought mine online without seeing it. Too good a bargain!

johnworf · 09/08/2009 21:02

I'm totally confused now. Looking around on the net at the stuff we've already got (Gplan) that is dated it seems that it's so retro, that it's worth having. The dining table/chairs is this and the sideboard is this. The tops are a bit scratched so now I'm thinking maybe just have them polished up instead. GAH! I dunno what to do now.

Anyway, pin up of the week is on telly (griff rhys jones). TTFN.

mrsboogie · 09/08/2009 21:10

jw they look seriously du jour unless you hate them I would tart them up and maybe redo the room decor and get a whole new life out of 'em!

jeanjeannie · 09/08/2009 21:15

Hi all we're back - new thread too - am LOVING the title Duchesse

Not had any time to catch up (sorry) as we've just sat down. Totally lucked out with the weather. Very lovely in South Oxfordshire - lots of pretty cottages, horses, cute places and CAKE! Iris loved playing with her little friend who is the daughter of DPs step-sister and Verity (cue drum roll) FINALLY learned to roll over And over - and over, and over!!!! Plus, she's really started to talk..with two joined words. At this rate she'll by-pass Iris Now it's the glamour of clearing up, washing and putting away

Just quickly flicking through - neddie are you due for C-sec soon? duchesse hope you're coping in the heat. heron good to hear time away was fun. jw OMG I LOVE, love, LOVE that sideboard

Right - catch up tomorrow...BYEEEEE!

mrsboogie · 09/08/2009 21:27

welcome back jj glad you had a lovely time and that V has been giving herself a mental and physical workout! must be the change of scene.

is hedgepig back soon? she seems to have been gone ages.. s'alright for some people

Tee2072 · 09/08/2009 21:30

I really like those JW. Especially the sideboard.

johnworf · 09/08/2009 21:46

jj welcome back dear. Sounds as though the girls had a ball. Nice weather ALWAYS helps with camping! LOL @ Verity rolling consistently.

hedgepig must be back soon. She went on a Saturday and I don't think it was a week ago, so I'm guessing very soon.

My dilemma with the furniture is that it's nice wood. Proper wood as opposed to veneer or particle board that a lot of furniture is these days. How can I chuck it and buy stuff that isn't wood and costs a blinkin' fortune? I'm gonna phone a french polisher tomorrow and see how much it'd be to get the tops redone. No more homework or even worse, card making on it! New carpet and new pics/soft furnishings???

ermintrude13 · 09/08/2009 22:08

Welcome back JJ and hurrah for sunshine, rolling and a generally lovely time

JW If you don't like the G-Plan I wouldn't feel obliged to keep it just because it's now got a retro cachet. Looks like they sell well so why not flog it and put the proceeds towards something you do like? You have to live with it and just knowing it's good quality doesn't mean you have to keep it. The sideboard is great but trying to fit a whole room around that sort of period piece if you're not into it in a big way might backfire...

Hope G R-J gives a pleasing performance

johnworf · 09/08/2009 22:23

It's not so much the retro feel of it, it's the fact that it's good, solid furniture and we'd be changing it for something not so solid - my DH test drives chairs very well. Too well. the sideboard is huge and houses so many things (junk).

As I said, it's a dilemma. I think if we change the carpet this may be enough to transform the room. It's a horrid green with roses and swirls. We were holding off until the dog died but now he's gone anyway.

Also, we only eat in there when all the children are here which is roughly once or twice a week at the very most. We eat at the kitchen table the rest of the time.

I'll sleep on it and see what head says tomorrow.

G'night all xx

Tee2072 · 10/08/2009 06:36

Morning all.

Adam slept from 930 to 520. Dare I hope this is the beginning of him doing this constantly? Oh, and he's back asleep after a bite to eat...

Welcome back JJ. Glad you had fab weather and that Verity is rolling and speaking!

JW maybe if you want a change, you could sell the sideboard for enough that you could buy something equally well made? There is still such a thing, it just costs the earth!

Planning a quiet day at home today so I am available to get this darn phone thing sorted!!

FloriaTosca · 10/08/2009 08:33

Good morning ladies

Lovely shiney new thread!

Sorry not to drop in yesterday...Dh started rotovating the garden (prep for the turfing)first thing to try and beat the predicted rain (that never came... first time I've ever wished for rain on a Sunday!))and I was dragged in to picking out the stones and old shrub roots he unearthed and then breaking my back raking it all flat, all the while watching A. making sure he didnt head dive down the concrete steps/ run into the rotovator blades/ eat any poisinous plants etc etc...and then refrain from clobbering Dh when he complained how exhausted he was . Consequenty suffering aches all over today, not helped by a night tortured horrendous reflux/indigestion brought on by my Mums Sicillian Lasagne and a son who thought 3.45 was time to get up ... and the bloody rain has finally arrived with a vengance too!

jeanjeannie · 10/08/2009 08:39

Morning all. Gosh, it was nice to sleep on a memory foam mattress and not on an air bed!

tee your phone debarcle sounds most annoying but good news on the sleeping....fingers crossed eh!

jw Mmmm, I can see what you mean....thing is if you don't like something enough is it worth investing in getting it spruced up? I love it - but then again we have a 70s leather swivel chair so I think I must have a thing for stuff like that! I know what you mean about quality though; G-Plan is uk-made and well made - a rare combo. Oh, I saw the video of K on FB - OOooooo, sweet....and that's just the excitment on your DH's face He clearly likes a nice park!!!

Think it'll be the park for us today as it's beautiful and I hear that the weather is taking a turn for the worse tomorrow Have period pain though so can barely be bothered to move from the sofa!

FloriaTosca · 10/08/2009 08:53

Me, me, me rant over....
teehope they sort your landline out soon... the sleep
jw I like the furniture too, but as erm says, if you don't love it anymore let someone who does pay for the priviledge and use the money to splash out on something you really want...have you been to 'housing units of hollinsworth'?(sp?)they had a lot of good solid stuff last time I went (many moons ago)
duchesse not long now....how exciting!
JJ glad the weather held out for you and fab that V. is rolling and talking (two words together..wow!)
dawn sorry cant help with the cot mobile spec., As didnt have a movable arm but I'm sure one of our shopping gurus will come up with a suggestion or two soon

johnworf · 10/08/2009 09:29

Morning ladies.

Rain is here as promised. Not a surprise though.

tee I would enjoy the nights that he sleeps in long blocks. I wouldn't pin my hopes on it being for good or a routine. Us mums with 1 year old and older are still getting up in the night! You've got the teething hurdle to come next too.

I don't hate the furniture, no. It does need some attention for scratches. We could sell the table but the sideboard would have to be smashed up to get it out of the room. It must have come in through the bay window to get it in. It's over 7 feet long. Both myself and DH have agreed that we'll put new carpet in the room and we think that will brighten the room. Practicality wise, the GPlan stuff ticks al the boxes. I'm to phone a french polisher this morning. floria do you know of a local one?

I've had a look in Housing Units and they cost even more than M&S and M&S would be best part of £2k.

jj make the most of the nice weather where you are as I think it's gonna change to the wet stuff we have.

flora men are all the bloody same! I'm fed up of hearing 'I'm tired' from mine Aren't we all darling????

Tabitha8 · 10/08/2009 09:47

It's lovely and sunny here!

mrsboogie · 10/08/2009 10:24

Rain here

I would hang onto that sideboard - I think its fab!

D has started waking in the night again.

Hmmm can't remember what else I was going to say...

oh well must get on, got another meeting with a different economist today...its gonna be a long one.

Tee2072 · 10/08/2009 10:26

Rain here as well.

JW I am not in any way shape or form counting on A ever sleeping like that again! He is, apparently, a very sleepy baby today anyway. Woke up one more time for more food and a huge pooh and is now back sound asleep. At least I am getting lots of stuff done around here!

johnworf · 10/08/2009 10:39

Sounds like a growth spurt tee (lots of milk and sleep).

mrsb sounds like life in the fast lane for you today Still, mine isn't much racier I'm afraid.

I'm toying with the idea of doing some baking today but haven't got to the planning stage yet. All hangs on what madam dictates.

Anyhoo, off to carpet shop to see what lovely things they have...meh.

mrsboogie · 10/08/2009 10:55

well we have now got three quotes for the 2 double glazed windows, one for £320, one for £800 and one for £1500

/scratches head

johnworf · 10/08/2009 10:57

Lordy mrsb where do they get their figures from? They are not even close to one another. Are those prices for exactly the same job ? Do any of the firms come recommended?

mrsboogie · 10/08/2009 11:04

actually the cheapest one does come recommended by a few people.

I don't know - I asked for 2 basic white double glazed windows and thems the quotes I got...

FloriaTosca · 10/08/2009 11:39

JW sorry dont know a french polisher I can recommend...know one from the Urmston area to avoid...but he prolly went out of business years ago (or retired on the proceeds of swindling old ladies like my gran for doing an appalling job on furniture not worth money he charged to 'restore')

MrsB go with the recommended one...we saved almost 2k on the top price for our patio doors by using the local, recommended and so much cheaper guys...2+ yrs on, we are still happy.

johnworf · 10/08/2009 12:43

Just chuckling at one to avoid floria !

I'd always go off a recommendation any day of the week. Have a look at their work if you can mrsb from the recommender.

Has anyone seen the state of Victoria Beckham? She's skeletal. Very unattractive look methinks. She looks as though she has an eating disorder to me.
