Tee2072 · 25/08/2009 20:18

JW we have one of the ear digital ones. Takes about 2.2 seconds. So far, no temp!!

Only problem seems to be extreme sleepiness, which is fine, he's just sleeping a lot!

johnworf · 25/08/2009 20:28

Yeah tee K used to sleep a lot. I think it knocks them sideways for a couple of days while their system is building up it's resistence.

ermintrude13 · 25/08/2009 20:36

Glad jabs went ok Tee - not looking forward to A's tomorrow - and sounds like Adam's reacting like my other two DC did. A bit under par and sleepy but no temp and never needed Calpol. I'm like JJ - wait for the symptoms to come before you start sending them away - the magic strawberry syrup works quickly anyway. Not that it would cause any harm if there was no temp, I'd just rather not give drugs unless necessary. Heard an interesting prog on R4 - where else? - last year about how we're a bit gung-ho about lowering temperatures these days and it makes minor infantile illnesses last longer than they should because it's not being 'burnt off' with a fever. Trouble is, we're all worried about meningitis as soon as they get a bit warm.

We have a cheapie thermometer that you put on their foreheads - not v accurate but can identify Too Hot just fine.

FloriaTosca · 26/08/2009 08:19

G'd morning ladies.

Miserable heavy rain here is Sth Lancs.

Tee I hope A is chirpier this morning.

JJ We are having similar probs with A., he didnt nap until 4.30 yesterday and was dopey and bad tempered when we woke him for dinner at 6.00, and then of course was charging around way past his 8.00 bed time (I work until 8.00 so it became his bed time) and I didnt get him to totally fall asleep until 10.00!! However he only woke once during the night (4.00) though he was up at 6.00... not sure which I prefer; late night and only one wake up or proper bed time and 2 .

Erm I hope As jabs go smoothly today... we had/have the forehead thermometer too but found it impossible to read in a dimly lit room (A had a nasty flu type virus at 7 months) so ended up buying a more expensive digital that we have never used since.

Spent most of yesterday cleaning for my Mum and am off today to try to rehabilitate my friends pug ... it is trying to dominate their 3 yr old ... I need a cleaner to keep up with my own work!

johnworf · 26/08/2009 08:38

Morning ladies.

Got the same weather as you floria. Snap!

Hope you have fun with the pug. Btw, my DD#1 loves those dogs and has told me that when she buys her first house, she's also buying one of those dogs as her 'fur baby' Not my choice of breed I must admit.

Eeeep @ the wakenings/early risers. K is waking at 6am for a bottle/change but she does go back in her cot afterwards. She's still there now

DH is moving his FiL this morning so it's just me and the LO's to entertain ourselves (no change there).

ermintrude good luck with A's jabs today. Not that you'll need it. If you don't know the score by now ..........! I wouldn't leave a baby with a temperature as I still have vivid memories of my DD#1 aged 18 months with measles having a febrile convulsion. Terrifying. (no MMR back in 1987 - thankfully it was introduced a year later).

jeanjeannie · 26/08/2009 08:52

Moaning all. No idea why I'm tired - slept well apart from the cat trying to nest on my arm.

floria have fun with the pug - they're odd little things. I knew one called 'Herb' most perculiar creature with illusions of granduer about its size.

It is annoying when they're just at that nap-dropping stage - like you we find it really hard to keep to a rough bedtime.

erm fingers crossed that A is ok and not too troubled. Have to say that both girls barely reacted to any of them - especially not the first ones.

Rain is hammering it down here. I'm hoping that my Boden frock and Verity's new rug will arrive today as we're in - but it's not going to happen that way - never does.

jw good to here FIL is off to his new abode today. At least you lot can amuse yourselves round the piano! Who plays? you? DP wants one - not sure why as a) NO space b) we don't play! His mum donated hers to the church down the road from us - so if the girls want to play they can find God and a nice keyboard!!

Think it's going to be painting, playing with water and Cbeebies for us today.

Tee2072 · 26/08/2009 09:16

Morning all

Well the first part of my night was normal. A fell asleep about 8:30, woke up about 1245. Then it went downhill. He would not settle after his 1245 feed (usually back asleep within 20 minutes!) until after 2. YAWN. Then, starting at 330ish, kept half waking up, whining, falling right back to sleep. Every.20.minutes. Now, I am blind as a bat without my glasses, so every time he did that, I had to sit up and put on my glasses in order to see him. By the time I had done that? He was back to sleep. The few times I said 'ah ha you won't fool me!' he kept whining until I had sat up and looked at him. And, I swear his eyes were never open so I have no idea how he knew if I was sitting up or not!

Needless to say, I am knackered. It is also pouring down rain here, so I am eating pancakes while he's in his bouncy seat and then we are going to cuddle in the big chair and watch West Wing for the rest of the day!

johnworf · 26/08/2009 09:51

JJ sounds like a plan. Water never fails to amuse.

I play piano - badly. I do have a piano course to work through but I would like some time to do so. At this rate, K will be able to play better than me in a few years (not difficult). Agree that they do take up space although unsure about finding god AND playing.

Not up to much ourselves. Might walk to the library later.

mrsboogie · 26/08/2009 10:21

morning all

'orrible 'ere too. Think I would choose tee's day out of the selection so far!!

D is definitely going through a phase of not wanting to go to bed on his own s I was up and down the stairs doing stroking and shusshing till 11pm again. And he sicked up a bt of milk in the car on his new winter jacket on the way into work - o wipes with us so had t use done of his squashy books to clean it up. What an organised mum I am!!

I'm sure the jabs will be fine erm the early ones are easier as baby has no idea what 's going on. Not looking forward to D's next lot next month as he will throw a tantrum I'm sure.

I had some new stuff from Next delivered this morning - it's been ages since I had a courier at the door - have been curbing my spendaholic ways. Still, payday on Friday thank gawd!

mrsboogie · 26/08/2009 10:22

no sign of duchesse??

is it today for neddie?

jeanjeannie · 26/08/2009 10:28

Oh gosh YES! neddie Oh goodness me - the tins will be here any minute - or NOW I do hope we hear something soon. x

And duchesse where are you my dear??? How is it going? x

jw oh you play Even badly would do me. I have got a flute back at my parents - thinking it should be in ok enough nick should the girls want to take it up one day.

Where are my deliveries. Not fair - mrsB has got hers Squashes nose up to window looking for courier

dawntigga · 26/08/2009 10:40

We live in the UK ladies - you were expecting sun?????

tee boo on the broken sleep. Sam does the mizzle thing without waking up. I've learned if I don't talk to him he'll stop - this morning Robing decided to speak to him big GRRR face! So that was it wide awake

We've got our 16 week jabs next week - Sam will be 19 weeks old. Am VERY annoyed at this as they had all his details very quickly and now he's had his vaccinations delayed as they are useless. Have made Robin take the day off to be with me as I can't face 3 on my own I have zero trust in my local health 'professionals'

Am currently bidding on a jumperoo for HRH Samual please wish me luck!

Neddie · 26/08/2009 10:52

Hi all
Sadly not today but tomorrow AM. Less than 23 hours to go. Butterflies...........I think Duchesse must have had hers by now.
Will let you know what happens.

johnworf · 26/08/2009 11:12

Not long now eh neddie?

dawntigga why is Sam having 3 jabs?

The MMR is indeed fun as they get a jab in each leg. You need stealth jabbing for that sesh.

I have had a lecture from scrooge DH re spending habits so I am to curtail. Coincides nicely with a different offer each day this week from Boden Envious of you ladies that can order.

Shelved walking to the library as it's far too wet. Instead listening to madam kick her cot to pieces as she doesn't want to go to sleep

mrsb I keep a bag in the boot of the car with bibs, nappies, wipes etc so that I don't have to scour around each time we go out. Just throw a bottle in there. Much easier and you can just forget about it until you need something out of it

Tabitha8 · 26/08/2009 11:13

Ermintrude I've heard that about fevers, too. That we should keep the child warm rather than try to cool them down. The fever is the body's defence mechanism.

Tabitha8 · 26/08/2009 11:17

Good luck Neddie!!

duchesse · 26/08/2009 11:52

Hi ladies. Still no baby yet. If you want to follow the saga I have a thread on the childbirth topic that is turning into an epic. Am in hospital trying to entice the baby out. Am struggling to load thus thread as am on my iPhone, and not sure how to do links on it either...

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 26/08/2009 12:14

OMG duchesse just looked at your thread of 'childbirth' ....the whole on MN is awaiting news Keep up the good work....keep that pessary in there...keep bouncing on any birthing ball they may have! xxxx

neddie Just one more day. Hope you've got your BIG (huge, enormous) knickers packed

May go off to soft play area in desperation. Weather shocking...girls moany...Iris is refusing lunch and keeps hurling the potty at the french windows I think I may be flogging a dead horse here. Oooooo, a nice pot of coffee - that'll keep me awake!

johnworf · 26/08/2009 12:32

Oh dear duchesse just read your thread How about a ton of dynamite to blast the blighter out? Hoping that LO takes the hint and appears sooner, rather than later.

JJ yep, we're going a bit stir crazy too. Can't even put the children in the back garden as it's too wet. I feel like chucking something myself.

I'm thinking that once DH comes back from sorting out FiL then I'll take the children out somewhere. No idea where ...but they need some fresh air.

mrsboogie · 26/08/2009 12:36

lol @hurling the potty @ the french wondows...

off to look at duchesse's thread

/cringing in anticipation

Tee2072 · 26/08/2009 13:04

Just read your thread duchesse. Hope things are moving along!!

Weather has turned nicer here. Still continuing with WW and baby cuddles plan. See y'all later.

dawntigga · 26/08/2009 18:41

UnrepentantTiggaxx

ermintrude13 · 26/08/2009 19:18

duchesse, I so hope things get moving for you. Maybe they already have!

dawntigga the 3 jabs at 16 wks surprised me too, really not looking forward to that.

Tee, West Wing and cuddles on the sofa sounds lovely - the kind of thing only first babies get lots of. Although I'm glad we've all had this holiday time together I'm looking forward to just being mummy and baby during school hours.

I had to get over £500 cash out of the bank today then go up to the comp to pay it over so that they'll order her new clarinet and recharge it to us minus the VAT. Saves £83 so well worth it. Expensive hobby though - if she doesn't practice we can always sell it; they seem to hold their value pretty well. I got lost in the school - her sense of direction is terrible so I hope they get a floorplan or something when they start next week...

johnworf · 26/08/2009 19:39

I honestly can't remember the 3 jabs at 16 weeks. Brain dead I am It's usually just a couple of minutes crying and then they forget all about it. They'll be fine. Or maybe I've just become slightly desensitised against needles going into her, I've seen so many.

K has taken it upon herself to drop down to 1 nap per day, just after lunch for about 1.5 hours. Just means she'll go to bed at 7.30pm but I'm wondering if that's why she's waking up for a nocturnal bottle. I'm trying to get as much milk down her as possible before she goes up!

duchesse any news yet?

dawntigga · 26/08/2009 19:48

I got my jumperoo
