Far too bloody laid back for its own good, this baby... It's still moving around just fine, fluid levels building up again during the day, but I lost a load more again in the night (not as much as the previous night but still...)

morning all! how are you all? all ok here. panicking slightly because summer club ends this week! eeek! have to think of things to do with DS1 next week. he does not start school till 9th sept.

DH left for business trip this morning away for 2 weeks!

bonzo it will get easier as your LO gets older. it is tough i know!

duchese all the best! hope the baby comes soon!

summer hols is coming to an end and i am feeling slightly sad!

BonzoDoodah · 24/08/2009 12:06

crap weather here - desperately trying to dry my clothes for my holiday (tonight) on a clothes horse ... sigh.

good luck Duchesse .

neddie hope the legs stop swelling - so uncomfortable isn't it.

Well I had pumped the milk earlier in the day and stuck it in the fridge then sprog looked hungery (had been yelling his head off at mum's 10 mins earlier) so i decided it was a good time to try his bottle - but like I said - by the time I'd warmed it from the fridge he was asleep [grrr]. Still I gave it him at bedtime (midnight) and he glugged it. A bit too fast actually - he was gasping as it came out - do I need to get newborn teats for his bottles? (They are avent ones from lasttime with M - who never bloody used them). So we seem to be okay with him taking it (phew) - just the speed. Actually it made me wonder if that's why he fusses when he feeds sometimes - if the stuff is coming out too fast for him. He was doing the same jerking head chicken impression. Does anyone know what you can do if the milk from the boob is too fast?

Tabitha8 · 24/08/2009 13:04

Bonzo the teat we used for B for the first 3 weeks had a number 1 written on it.

johnworf · 24/08/2009 13:28

bonzo you need the slowest flow teats for newborn.

No idea how you can stop it coming out of your boobs too fast. Express a little bit beforehand?

FloriaTosca · 24/08/2009 14:31

Hi Ladies!

Bonzo I agree with JW about expressing to slow let down, a pal of mine did it...

JWglad you have found somewhere with familiar faces for your fil.

Duchesse cant believe you are still with bump! Sincerely hope things get moving today.

Neddie ahh, you poor love... at least you can start counting down the hours now.

I've not had time to catch up on more... still cleaning after a busy weekend (dog show in Wales on Saturday and still preparing the b*^&$y garden Sunday!)..back to doing the windows and trying to keep Alex out of the bucket.

mrsboogie · 24/08/2009 16:35

is it the weekend yet?

BonzoDoodah · 24/08/2009 16:44

Right - I'm off for 3-4 days so I want to see new babies when I come back (please )
I'll get some new teats while I'm away to try -thanks folks.

Tee2072 · 24/08/2009 16:49

Oh noes, mrsB...that bad already?

Have a great trip bonzo!!

Got A's passport pictures taken today. Now just have to get the paperwork signed, countersigned, cheque written and off it goes!

One more thing to check off my list!!

johnworf · 24/08/2009 18:46

Evenin' all.

Hey floria sounds like you're having fun in the garden and with the dog! My curtains might be ready next week so I'll give you the nod and we could meet up for coffee (and cake if you're allowed). I'll tip you the nod when I have word they're done

bonzo have a great time in Angle land. Hope this rain stops and G gives you some peace

tee are you planning on using A's passport in the near future? I'm not bothering getting K's yet as we're not planning going overseas until at least 2011.

mrsb you need emergency cake!!!! Console yourself with it's a short week next week

duchesse any news yet? Want me to come round and do a James Herriot impersonation and help matters along?

neddie another tick on the calendar ....YIPPEE!!!!!

Tee2072 · 24/08/2009 19:44

JW we will be going to California for either Thanksgiving (end of November) or Christmas, provided all of his paperwork is done by then. And the US won't even start his US birth certificate or passport until UK is done. Once I have his UK passport in hand, I have to make an appointment to see the Consular General, or rather her staff, to get him sorted. Luckily I can do it here in Belfast.

duchesse ???

Wait, they get smellier???

jeanjeannie · 24/08/2009 20:09

Evening all....Here I am jw !what a day. Poor Verity has shrieked through most of it because of her teeth....she's so tired. Her top, leggings - everything is wet and she can't settle. Went to the park and she was happy on the swing but I think we're in for a rough ride tonight. The weekend mrsB ....I wish - we've got a whole baby-free day on sat

Have a great trip bonzo and yep - express a bit before you stuff the nork in his mouth!

floria hope Alex stayed out of the bucket and had a nice dog show. I forget you have a big dog!

tee yay! to your organisational skills! Oh and at the idea of going to California (and thrice !!!!) I have a lovely friend who is in San Diego and is making the girls some quilts...I really, really want to pick them up personally!

heron hope the final countdown (cue Europe!) to the end of the hols isn't too bad.

jw washing for a teenage dirtbag - nice! Ooooo, if only I had the excuse of curtains...then I could meet you for cake!

Loads of boring stuff to do this evening

Tee2072 · 24/08/2009 20:22

Well, JJ I am, by profession, a personal assistant after all! And we'll be going to San Francisco, so the weather won't be much different than it will be here in NI, only a bit warmer, but just as rainy that time of year!

Poor Verity. I hope her teeth come through soon.

johnworf · 24/08/2009 20:24

You get a US birth certificate as well? How does that work - you have 2?

JJ poor Verity. Teething sucks. Literally.

Teenage boys get much, much, smellier as they get older I'm sorry to tell you. It's mainly in the feet department

I was in Vegas for Thanksgiving 2006. Not that many had a turkey dinner as I recall...too busy on the slots

mrsb you alive after Monday at work?

Tee2072 · 24/08/2009 20:28

JW its actually a Consular Statement of Foreign Birth. Just easier to say birth certificate!!! He will have two passports, he is automatically a dual citizen. He could, actually, have 3 because anyone born in Northern Ireland is automatically a Republic of Ireland citizen as well and entitled to an Irish passport. So UK, US and Irish!

johnworf · 24/08/2009 20:54

Blimey tee. Not sure what you'd need 3 passports for though! I'm confused about the Irish ones though. I thought that NI was part of Great Britain and that ROI was seperate (hence different currency). Didn't realise that NI automatically gives a ROI passport as well.

I'm easily confused about Irish politics though.

jeanjeannie · 24/08/2009 20:58

Wow tee that's plenty of passports to chose from! Imagine what an accent he could acquire!

jw I have such a vision of you busy on the slots in Vegas.....in a sort of Gary Larson'esque' kinda way All of the US sat down with a turkey while you are engrossed in one-arm bandits!!! I went to Vegas once - for a shoe convention...it was truely as bizarre as it sounds.

mrsB you ok....Monday all been too much?!

duchesse Please, please let you be delivering your LO xxxxx

I've eaten FIVE small Twix fingers....bad jj BAD.

mrsboogie · 24/08/2009 21:01

I am alive jw but "we" are going through a bit of a phase at the moment of not wanting to go to sleep on our own he is knackered but wails every time we leave the bedroom. When you go back in its like the NSPCC advert - sobbing in the dark. I have had to leave the light on.

Survived work I s'pose.

not had time to catch up yet though.

Tee2072 · 24/08/2009 21:02

JW the way I understand it, that was part of the agreement when the island was split NI and ROI. They are separate countries but you can drive from one to the other with no border crossing, and NI citizens get ROI passports. Not the other way, though!!!

Since we will go from UK to US on a regular basis, having both will make his life easier. He'll probably never have an ROI one.

duchesse · 24/08/2009 21:06

I'm still here... Sister arrived and has booked herself into B&B.

Seems nothing short of hauling this baby out looks like working. Went for monitoring earlier and had talk with rather too straight-talking obstetrician lady who promised all manner of dire outcomes should I refuse to be induced there and then.

jw- you got ropes ready?

OP posts:
johnworf · 24/08/2009 21:19

What they promising to do to you duchesse? Stick you on the Iron Maiden? thumb screws?
I'll grab a rope and a large jar of vaseline.

EEEep mrsb @ crying. We've been through that phase already and thankfully she's come through the other side. V trying indeed I just used to keep going back in to her in her cot. Patting her back to comfort her and then leaving the room. I kept doing this until she finally wore herself out. She's also come through the crying at anyone apart from myself and DH. The only one she screams at immediately is SiL Actually, SiL was here tonight and as soon as she saw her she shreiked. SiL asked me if she was still doing the crying and I told her it was just at her now. Think she has a complex about it. Ah well.

FiL has been to see his new care home and is delighted with it and can't wait to go on Wednesday. Aint it lovely

Tee2072 · 24/08/2009 21:30

JW that's great about FIL.

And no one try to mess with K, she knows who to like and who to shriek at!!

duchesse uh oh...shall we try oil as well as vaseline?

mrsb oh no, poor wee mite. I am so not looking forward to any of these stages.

A is once asleep at 2130. If daddy is lucky, he will once again sleep until 0330. Mummy is sleeping in the spare room.

And on that note...night all!

jeanjeannie · 24/08/2009 21:31

duchesse could this be why your sister is really here...this is her purpose to help deliver the LO - so it can come out and slap her round the chops with a handy rubber chicken it's been holding onto up there.

mrsB blimey - that sounds hardcore Verity would get in a right old tangle but I'm with jw on the gentle back-patting and going in and then out - blinkin tiring though.

jw excellent news about the care home. Awwww - that is nice that he's happy.

Righty ho - I think it's nighty nighty.

duchesse · 24/08/2009 21:34

jj you just made me smile for the first time today.

The dire outcomes promised were mostly to do with DEATH. Of the baby! Or me!! Or both!!! Due to the highly infectious nature of the uterine environment once the waters go. I'm getting rather jittery at the moment.
