Tee2072 · 20/07/2009 15:22

erm Thank you! That's exactly the kind of bag I am looking for. I have a bag, but it is much too small to hold all of A's stuff plus my wallet keys etc etc etc.

duchesse OMG that is so cute!

JJ I know for a fact that they are currently issuing 'red books' with the BF and FF charts. How do I know? Because A doesn't have a red book because there wasn't a single one in NI when he was born due to them waiting for the BF charts to be done before issuing new books. He should be getting one in the next week or so!

Speaking of A...he's sleeping in 10 minute intervals. Give me strength...or better yet, GET HOME DH!!!

johnworf · 20/07/2009 15:47

Hmm @ mrsb That sounds mightily ominous. Hope they haven't got the illness that no one dare speak the name of.

tee didn't know they were re-doing the red health books. Not that I use mine much as we don't go to the clinic. I'm a slummy mummy and proud. I guess you'll be needing it v soon for first round of A's jabs. Oh, what joy you have to come

Bags. Hmm. Any bag is fine with me as long as it holds everything. I'm very much a 'just in case' kinda woman. I bought the SilverX matching bag to the pram but that holds approx half of the things I need to take out with me. So, found a large second hand Orla Kiely messenger that is fab. Can't afford a new one though. Outrageous price new.

JJ oooh I'm intrigued already. We are currently in the midst of consultant psychiatrist that saw DSS and diagnosed, and educational psychologist that saw him in class, disagreeing on actual diagnosis. Consultant says yes, and Ed Psych says 'not sure'. What to do???

bonzo are you still at your friends house troughing? I hope you obtain a nice doggy bag for us lot that are starving. TIA.

jeanjeannie · 20/07/2009 17:53

Oooo, mrsb thank goodness they went home - fingers crossed it's not oink, oink flew.

jw well, to cut a very dull story short, we finally got a letter from the paed (2 mnths later ) just letting us and HV/GP know her thoughts and they certainly don't correlate with my notes or what I remember her saying The basic gist is 'functioning at the very low end of normal'... I've got written down from the meeting that 'she's functioning at a higher end and displaying a high IQ but with an inability to express along with spectrum traits.' Doesn't sound the same to me. Her version implies that Iris is 'slow'. I'm hoping that this isn't the start of the 'no she's just not very bright' scenario which lots of people on the SN board seem to struggle with as it means then they don't have to pay out for stuff in education/speech therapy etc....Am going to keep a keen eye on this.

johnworf · 20/07/2009 18:05

JJ our thoughts on why ed psychologist is sitting on the fence is down to funding too. If she agrees with consultant and DSS gets a statement, then it involves funding. Getting this is so hard. Sounds like you're involved in the same thing. I'd get a second opinion for Iris. One of our friends with a child in DSS's class has done so and got a completely different outcome to the first - resulting in her son being diagnosed as AS.

Don't be afraid of asking for a 2nd opinion. You are quite within your rights to do so.

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 20/07/2009 18:25

Mmm, interesting jw in that you also think some funding issue is coming into play with DSS too

We're going to wait till the nursery assessment and then when she starts pre-school. The head is a renowned no-nonsense, all-battling, statement winning SENCO! She has quite a fierce reputation so I think she's the person we'll take our lead from in a classroom situation. We've already decided that if by Xmas we're not happy with what they're saying then we'll go private/2nd opinion route. Think we may be peas in a pod when it comes to cutting through jargon/red tape/funding issues. I've paid into the pot for many, many years,,,,if getting some money out for my LOs means battering down doors - then consider them battered

Oh I'm SO, SO, SOOOOOO fed up with trying to get Iris to stop shouting 'NO!' at Verity every time she so much as looks at a toy. The concept of sharing is not an easy one to instil into a stubborn young head [worn out emoticon]

johnworf · 20/07/2009 18:35

Awww poor Verity. Not up to scratch size wise and now being told she can't play or even look at Iris' toys. Send her up here to us in a large jiffy bag and we'll let her play with K.

I wonder why Iris has got so possessive?

dawntigga · 20/07/2009 18:44

Waves to everyone.

Sam has turned into the drool monster from the black lagoon. Anyone have any ideas on how to stop his poor little chin from being spotty and the skin drying out. Am reluctant to use vaseline as it stays on the skin and makes that area hot - it's vile stuff.

TiredOfLookingAtSamsLittleSpottyChinTiggaxx

johnworf · 20/07/2009 18:55

dawn I didn't use anything on K's chin, just kept wiping with a muslin cloth and keeping it dry. Tommee tippee do some good bibs which are padded round the neck. Stops the drool getting into the neck creases and making it chapped.

Otherwise, no advice to offer apart from above

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 20/07/2009 20:14

As jw said dawn just kept constantly wiping it with Verity (who was a dribble-hound of the highest order) and then catching it in the padded neck Tommee tippee bibs.

I had heard that dummys stop it - but I've never done dummies so can't say for sure.

Oh dear - looks like DP's client has Piggy flu and he's been in contact with him today. Great

Tee2072 · 20/07/2009 20:19

Evening all.

First time, all night, A has let me put him down. And he's eating every 2 hours again. Can we say growth spurt?!?!

JJ along with getting a second opinion, which I see you have a plan for, I'd ring the person who sent you that report and say 'interestingly, what I wrote down was BLAH and what you 'officially' reported was YADDA. Care to explain?!?'

dawn paed we saw for A's SCBU follow up highly recommended Vaseline for all sorts of things, but especially for bottoms. Not sure about chins!!

mrsboogie · 20/07/2009 21:04

you can say growth spurt if you like tee but their little ways will remain a mystery to us! You would think by now D would have settled into a routine with feeds but some days he will take one bottle and others it will be four or five.

Good idea re phoning for a clarification of the discussion jj it doesn't sound lie Iris' best interests might be met if they are rewriting history for their own nefarious purposes..

Mr D has been in bed since 7! we were in the door he had some fun, ate his tea (announcing he'd had enough with one deft hand movement showering his daddy in a hail of pesto cous cous ), bath and bed within an hour.

His latest trick when he wants no more food is to grab the spoon with lightening reflexes and flip the contents all over the room

hedgepig · 20/07/2009 21:10

DT the drool will stop in a few days, I would just dab it dry from time to time.

O has been most grumpy all day, I love him to bits but it does get a bit wearing after a while.

JJ if you are worried and don't have any faith in your HVs you can always go to the GP. O is crawling and pulling himself up but if he falls backward he will not roll over onto his front so he can get going again, he just looks confused and then goes wa wa wa!! Hes a bit like a turtle stuck on it's back.

Iris stop cleaning you are just going to make yourself sore (I know I did it too )

johnworf · 20/07/2009 21:36

Ah fookin heck JJ. What you gonna do if your OH brings home the bacon (flu)?

hedgepig funny how they get one thing but not another isn't it? Poor little O doing his dying fly

mrsb 7o'clock??? I woke K up at that time cos I knew she'd be up during the night otherwise. Anyway, fingers crossed he'll be down for the night.

As for refusing food, K refuses practically anything that comes near on a spoon and is met with much shaking of head...unless I let her put her hand in the bowl of food but that is just a momentary distraction. She still refuses it after I've let her do it. She'll only accept things from her own fingers now and it's bloody hard getting food down her as it's so hit and miss. The dog is doing well out of it though

tee like mrsb says, it's all a mystery, even to us non-first time mums. I wouldn't spend too long trying to figure it out....it's a lost cause

Well I've just partook in the White Stuff sale. The site is soooooooooooo slow. Took me ages just to get one top...a nice floaty kaftan. Love it. Think it'll be nice over jeans.

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 21/07/2009 08:09

Morning all. Well, Iris has woken up hot and with a streaming nose - wants nothing to eat or drink....eek. MIL is over later to take her out - I'll play it by ear. Verity has got a slight cough and is hot too. We are officially not panicking.

jw oh the White Stuff sale....I've seen a nice kaftan in there too. I love kaftan and jeans....it's a good look

Hope everyone got good nights.

Report from JJ towers later

Tee2072 · 21/07/2009 08:45

Horrible night here. A up at 1. And 2. And 3. And 4. I finally called for help at 4:30. DH up with him from 4:30 to just now.

JJ uh oh. Hope it isn't piggy flu. Or any kind of flu, really.

I hope everyone else is fine.

iris66 · 21/07/2009 09:03

tee - your night sounds as bad as mine . Onwards and upwards though eh! How long have you got DH home for? Mine woke me 15 minutes before he had to leave for work (aaaggghhh) though he'd fed the boys and N was still asleep so I was able to grab a quick shower.

dawntigga - I second jj's suggestion of the padded necked tommee tippee bibs. DS2 dribbled really badly for months and they were the only thing that he'd keep on - and they work!

jj - Hope the girls are ok - there are soooooooo many colds doing the rounds at the mo. D'you remember those sicky bugs we were all going down with a few months ago on this thread? I reckon that was SF so we needn't worry anymore

white stuff sale? - ooh I missed that!(prepares for some virtual mooching a bit later) HV coming this afternoon to issue red book and stuff (be interesting to see what feeding chart's in this one!)

Tee2072 · 21/07/2009 09:04

Uh oh...he's been sneezing his head off. I think its just a small cold.

iris I imagine he'll be home all day. Advantage of being married to a teacher during the summer!

johnworf · 21/07/2009 09:08

Oh dear! tee sorry you've had a bad night. It sometimes goes like that I'm afraid. Nothing I can say in explanation. As Bruce Hornsby said, 'that's just the way it is'. Hopefully you'll catch up on some R&R later. At least DH is mucking in.

JJ I'm so hoping that the girls have just got a bug and that it's nothing more sinister. If you suspect anything don't hesitate to contact NHS Direct. They were very good last week and rang us back within 15 minutes. They are currently advising not taking anyone who is suspected to the GP or hospital. Hopefully you shall not be needing any of the above advice though

On a different note, The White Stuff have some lovely things in but apart from the website being slow, the stock is getting low. The kaftan I bought was reduced from £35 to £17.50 which is pretty darned good. I'll post a link of it when the site lets me on.

Have both the boys coming around today. Think DH is taking them for lunch as it's actual 18th b'day today. My other little baby is all grown up. We were sat down working out how old we'll all be when K is 18. I'll be 60 and my DD#1 will be 40. How scary is that!

OP posts:
iris66 · 21/07/2009 09:12

ps - I obviously have a major shopping need to fill today

ermintrude - love the bag! very ergonomic - think DH would actually like it ( jw* our silverX got relegated to the car for emergency stuff though I quite liked it)

duchesse - the bunny is very cute (N only has one toy of her own (caterpillar given by a friend) so I need to find her a cuddly something of her own. Good reminder.

johnworf · 21/07/2009 09:22

I ordered this one.

iris yes our SilverX bag has been relegated to the car boot for emergencies

I wouldn't worry too much about lack of toys. I doubt N will notice at that mo Although, if you are interested, I am getting rid of some toys with the intention of ebaying. Email me on FB if you're interested and I'll send you some details.

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 21/07/2009 09:33

JW can't see the thing you've ordered. Their website is down.

A is finally actually asleep in his Amby. Hopefully he'll stay that way for awhile.

duchesse · 21/07/2009 09:34

Hey ladies! Does anybody know where I can find a big lidded bucket? Most of the nappy buckets available seem to only be about 10 litres, and I was hoping for something bigger given my 7 kg washing machine...

johnworf · 21/07/2009 10:02

Duchesse I have this and this if they are any help.

Not surprised White Stuff website is down. It's been very slow for a while.

OP posts:
iris66 · 21/07/2009 10:23

I've gotthis one duchesse

bonzodoodah - are you all packed and ready yet? jus realised you're getting your LO tomorrow!!! ooohhh I can feel the excitement mounting already!

hedgepig · 21/07/2009 10:32

morning Tee that sounds like a very bad night, is the coffee pot on?

O is asleep and B is watching cbeebies, it is pouring with rain here so we will be stuck in doors all day by the look of it.

Duchess the only problem with a really large nappy bucket is if you only plan to wash every 3 days or so then you will need a lot of nappies. I just picked up some more motherease birth to potty size ones on ebay so I'm happy.

Right, I've got to go and play star wars.
