mrsboogie · 06/08/2009 21:46

all of D's jabs were two weeks behind tee just because of the timing of the first set - for no particular reason.

I didn't mind as I thought his system would be that much more mature.

johnworf · 07/08/2009 07:29

Morning ladies!

tee they do injections at actual age so when K was minus 10 weeks, she had her first lot and so on........No idea why they're delaying A's. Might be something to do with their end; staffing, holidays? You need to ask her but saying that, prolly won't make much of a difference. K's had all of her jabs now until 3.5 which I'm v glad about!

I heard on radio that the flu jab will be available from end of September. Not sure who it will be available to. We'll get a flu jab anyway be it SF epidemic or not as a) DSS gets one each year as he's asthmatic b) DH and myself get one as K has CLD c) K should get one because of her CLD. I'm sure the GP will invite us at some point.

Went to bed v early last night as was worn out. Didn't even hear K cry during the night when DH gave her a bottle.

mrsb I've had playpens and I haven't had playpens IYKWIM. None for older 2, had one for the youngest (Houdini baby). Not bothering with K. She'll have to learn that 'no' means just that. Stair gate is on top of stairs now as she's too fast by half at crawling and can't risk her falling down the stairs.

JJ not sure if we'll see you this morning before you get off on your jollies. Hope you have a great time and that the weather holds for you. Get the tent out at your end asap to dry out if it's wet when you pack it away Other than that, don't forget the tin opener

Morning all.

Poor DH was up with A last night and got the daily epic once a day pooh at 2am!!! Is it mean that I snickered a bit at that?

JW I also figure there is nothing they will do to change the date of the jabs, but I will at least ask why the delay.

JJ hope you have a lovely time and don't get too wet!!

Re playpens...can't quite make up my mind. Not an issue yet, obviously, but I know he'll be moving before I know it and like mrsb this house is so far from baby friendly its not even funny. I can and will pack up most of my breakables, but there are also about 10 bookcases that will either have to be secured to the wall or he'll have to be kept from.

Which reminds me of a conversation I had with my MIL not too long ago:

her: these bookcases are not safe for him!
me: May I remind you that a.) he's 2 weeks old and b.) that you have knives on open display on your coffee table? We all need to baby proof our houses...

DH took the day off work, so he's catching up on sleep and I'm enjoying A being asleep as well!!

heron22 · 07/08/2009 08:18

tee LO got his jabs 2 weeks late cos they were just too busy at the gp.

jw dont blame K for being scared of those lights things! thing is the ad for those things promises the baby will love it!

jj have a great time!

johnworf · 07/08/2009 08:26

Knives on a coffee table???

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 07/08/2009 08:36

Yup. FIL collects antique knives. And displays them on the coffee table. Oh, and when I made that comment? FIL's response was 'oh and you haven't even seen my new sabre yet!!'

duchesse · 07/08/2009 10:01

Tee- he's gonna have to move them within the year then whenever you visit...

dawntigga · 07/08/2009 10:26

Hola, doing the happy slept to 0500 again dance - it might not last so I'm making the most of it

I'll have to do something with the following fairly soon:

recurve bow
tonfa's
several sais
Katana's and shin gunto's 2 of which have live blades

I'll probably sell the japanese stuff to other ju jitsu people. I'm keeping my bow though!

Speaking of disposing of knives we had some domestic knives to get rid of. Phoned the police to dispose of them safely they told me to put them in the bin!

jeanjeannie · 07/08/2009 10:41

Quick dash in to say HI and BYE! We're in the midst of packing. Bloody awful weather and not even vaguely warm....huzzah???!

Knives...ah, you'll find they love 'em. Spoons are ok, forks are mildly amusing....but knives, oh heck, a knife to a 2yr old is sheer joy. Running with Knives would be Iris's Indian name of choice! Mind you - she's now discovered the joys of scissors.....

jw sorry the light thingy scared the life out of K - I've opted for the glow-in-the-dark stars,,,,they seem to be a hit.

dawnt lol@police advice! Have to say - i can beat you on the lethal weapon front. My dad found a gun hidden in my grandma's garage about 8 years ago when she was just into her 90s - then he found a bag of bullets. So - he put the two together....and shot at her bird table... Turns out my grandfather was not all sweetness and light and clearly she wasn't going nuts when some 30 years previous she'd come round to our house screaming because hubby had threatened to kill her....! Ah, old people eh, you can't trust them. And the gun, and the bullet? My dad buried them in concrete under a post holding up a fence. He told the neighbours when they sold the house....but you could tell they just thought he'd got dementia

Bye, bye, bye - have a good weekend all....

mrsboogie · 07/08/2009 10:54

hmmm...not sure what any of them things are dawntigga but they sound like they don't want leaving on a coffee table! I must say you sound like a most interesting character!

After this morning I am even more convinced re a playpen - it was v hard getting us all ready while constantly going NO! and running after D, taking baby wipes and shoes out of his mouth (he likes to eat them). His grandparents house is so much more baby friendly - there is nothing within reach in the living room really or dining room whereas we have bookcases, electronic stuff, things to climb on, things that can fall over and hard floors- it wouldn't be possible to get it all out of the way. I am only thinking really of plonking him in it while we are doing stuff but then it will take up so much space and hardly be used. Oh I dunno!

D is already learning the meaning of No. I have a very good No voice - it can stop him in his tracks at 100 paces. Problem is there is so much stuff to say no about and I can't be saying it all the time or it will just be confusing and won't work.

jj I think I missed where you said you were going camping - hope you have a lovely time and get some good weather!

When we are at the dcs I asked the hv about D getting the MMR early to avoid any SF outbreaks that might prevent him getting it in September. She said they don't do it early because a baby carries its mother's immunity to measles until it is about 13 months old (which wasn't what I was asking but never mind) I hadn't heard that before, quite reassuring though.

Interesting how the SF transmission rates have dropped off so dramatically - shows how much disease is spread through schools

mrsboogie · 07/08/2009 10:56

arf@ running with knives

johnworf · 07/08/2009 11:03

mrsb interesting re spread of SF through schools. Myself and DH have decided that on first day of school we are going to see headmistress and talk to her about DSS having asthma and see if we come to some arrangement re SF spread. Not sure what or even how this will work but have to give it a go.

Talking of SF, the lady that works next to my DD#1 has been told she MUST return to work today even though she is staying in the same house as her daughter who at the moment, is laid up with SF. My DD is expecting to get it too. She thinks it's such a bad call by Probation Service but isn't surprised.

they should keep the schools closed until the vaccine is ready, Or at least they could open the schools in stages and do a mass vaccination as the kids return. It could save the NHS toppling over mid winter, in addition to saving the lives of many vulnerable people.

In your shoes I would be doing similar jw anything to prevent K getting it.

Tee2072 · 07/08/2009 11:27

I am wondering if it is the schools being closed that has slowed the spread or if it is the fact that it isn't quite as aggressive as they thought it would be. Possibly a combination of both. Especially considering that children are still going places i.e. camps, day activities etc.

DH and I have decided to enjoy our beautiful day (sorry JJ no rain here!) and go for a walk and out to lunch. We thought we'd bring Adam with us.

mrsboogie · 07/08/2009 11:37

ohh sounds nice have a nice day tee (and famille)

I'm sure its the schools being closed- otherwise it would have had to become less agressive in the last 2 weeks- if was spreading at a rate in excess of 100,000 a week and is now down to 30,000.

Although I heard tell it did peak in Scotland before the school hols.

Who knows. I just hope it doesn't get the chance to come back nastier in winter. The country will come to a standstill.

johnworf · 07/08/2009 11:46

mrsb we're not yet officially into the flu season yet. That should start next month I think. Certainly it's an autumn illness.

I think a lot of people are away on holiday and have all stocked up on their Tamiflu to take with them hence the drop off rate. Also, before the schools shut, a lot of people were picking up Tamiflu yet testing rates showed that only 1/10 had it. So now that the panic mode has passed and the stampede has died down, I guessed that the figures would decrease.

Lovely weather here today. Nice and warm and washing out to dry. Trying to get DSS to actually go outside is by no means easy. Kids these days just won't occupy themselves or go outside and kick a football around. It all has to be supervised and planned for them I feel like shouting 'I'M BORED!' myself.

tee have a lovely lunch out. Hope A has a nice time too

goes off to find some curled up sandwiches

Why are there people called Dogface and Halfwit in the Big Brother house?

Going to Warrington to eat meatballs visit Ikea and get Sam some new harness protectors for his car seat as dp managed to lose one of them when I'd put them aside and made sure they were safe after washing them!

If anyone knows where I can get a clip protector I'd be very grateful as the car seat was second hand and didn't have one!

OffToStuffHerselfWithDaimCakeTiggaxx

johnworf · 07/08/2009 12:09

dawntigga enjoy your meatballs. I went past that store only this week.

Not sure what clip protectors are so can't help.

mrsboogie · 07/08/2009 14:30

ladies I forgot to tell you this earlier but better late than never...today we had a time and date of 12:34:56 7/8/9

how cool is that??

re Big Brother - don't watch it either but I think the stupid names (actual changing of names by deed poll) were things they had to agree to in order to get to stay in the House. The words pact and Faustian spring to mind.

heron22 · 07/08/2009 16:15

mrsb how about get a travel cot like one i got called baby dan. it is huge and collaspes easy and can use as playpen too. LO is not crawling yet. but when he does i will be using it to contain him!

love that date mrsb

i am feeling so relaxed right now. am officially off duty as mum of 2. DH is on duty with them at home. had pedicure, yummylunch and at hotel now awaiting my full body exfoliating appt at spa. then massage after. imagine all the dead skin falling off! then having room service, half a bottle of champagne and off to bed and no one to wake me tomorrow! when i was checking in, the lady said do you want a wake up call? i looked at her in horror and said no! i then told her i am a stressed out mum coming her to sleep till noon

heron22 · 07/08/2009 16:15

has anyone got an ikea high chair? is it any good?

mrsboogie · 07/08/2009 16:52

heron have a lovely time - sounds delicious! wish I was there with you!

oh and forget about highchairs and all things baby-related until you are back at home...

johnworf · 07/08/2009 17:20

Yeah mrsb we had a chat over lunch about the time/date. Next one is in another 1,000 years. Doubt I'll be seeing that one

Very hot here today and sunny blue skies. DSS off to his mum's until Monday so just the one screaming child to deal with this weekend.

Hi all
heron enjoy your time away it must be bliss.
JW I know about these indoor children, they are frustrating to say the least especially as I have 7 acres for them to be picking ragwort playing in. I think I went on the trampoline more than they did!! These tins will be shoved out in all weathers and the door shut (my partner goes swimming in the freezing cold and loves anything like a blizzard). My eldest decided she wanted to lose weight and so asked if she could ride something. Dutiful mummy said yes, but my girl groom tacked him up for her and got everything ready. She looked mortified when I said she could stay and clean the tack to help her. Little Lady Fauntleroy indeed!!! Even I would get my own horse ready and I'm paying the groom!! I think I'm actually embarrassed about having a groom as it sounds lazy but I can hardly tie my shoelaces let alone do the horses so she's a necessity at the mo.
All well with babies (boy's fluid has stabilized)and I will see consultant on Monday for the unzipping date. Hurrah!
Have a nice holiday JJ hope the weather stays nice for you.
