Totally echo bonzo's sentiments re the Dr Spock-like baby care

The only thing I've been strict about, if you can call it that, is that they have a proper bedtime time. And are in bed at this time. Everyone knows where they're up to then

I am a HUGE fan of PCO bonzo And where they finished....North Sea Radio Orchestra seem to fill the little void they left

OOOH new sofa time How exciting! Would be for me anyway.

JJ dunno if it's the same thing. Mebbe? It's here so you tell me. And does it work?

its a very unexciting sofa I'm afraid.

Tee2072 · 04/08/2009 22:13

A hasn't had a full bottle since 6:30. He had a brief snack at 8:30. And is now sound asleep.

I think its going to be a long night.

Night all!

Tee2072 · 04/08/2009 22:14

I should mention, he hasn't been asleep all that time, but up and about and sitting in his chair and with his daddy and babbling at me. He is apparently just not hungry.

I still think its going to be a long night...

MUM41plus5 · 04/08/2009 22:16

Morning...from coughing jjtowers UGH!

jw they look the same sort of thing - I think it says on my box something about the 'dophilus' being a range - so it's probably a generic name. Yep, I swear by it - but don't take it all the time. I took it (recommended by fab, 70s hippy GP!) after my c-section when I had lots of anti-bs as it helps your stomach fight back - stops it being drained off all its natural bacteria. Yes, I've got WAY more faith in those than those Yakult drinks which are expensive and because of the way the bacteria is contained in the drink ends up dead before it gets there!

mrsB new sofa I'm making do with new cover from IKEA!

mum41 FAB to hear from you - where the devil have you been??? Are you all well?? What news?

tee was it a long, dark night?

Off to Oxfordshire for a picnic - so see you later

dawntigga · 05/08/2009 08:18

neddie shall we say the stricter regimes that are prescribed by LV etc. in my opinion set new mums up to fail - big time. It may work with some people and good luck to them, I simply think that babies have needs not wants and they need those needs met when they have them not when somebody tells them they should have them. It makes me angry to think that somebody could pick a book up of this genre and think that's the only way to bring up a child. Good luck if it works for you but I'd love to do a study and find out how many people it actually works for. I'm betting the drop out rate is higher than for breast feeding! (I have no facts to back that up and it's a personal opinion). I personally loath this way of bringing up a baby and could never follow it - again I would never tell anyone else how to bring up their child (unless they do what DP's sister did but that's a whole other story!) I'm glad you found a way that works if it works for you.

BTW why do we say DS/DD rather than the names of our children? I'm getting a bit bored with it and might become a rebel

On another topic Sam (oops used his name) slept right through to 0500 again. Hurrah!!!!!

johnworf · 05/08/2009 08:52

Morning ladies.

dawn agree with you on the book/regime treatment.

I've never questioned why we don't use the real names or our children/husbands. On some occasions we do...e.g. for all of our babies their names are known and we simply use their initial for ease. Maybe with many of us already having other children it'd become too complicated (e.g. who is this Brian she keeps writing about?) I think DD/DS simplifies it. Also I think there are some ladies that like their anonymity. Fair play.

I'm about to sort out the dog 'going on holiday'. At least, that's what we've told him (like he cares). I have such a mix of emotions today. I look at him and feel huge guilt and then change my mind but then think of K and her coughing and think no, I have to be firm. Need to go and write a couple of pages to take with him ..'All About Me' sniff

Morning.

Actually, not too bad of a night after all JJ. He slept until 0145 and then went down about 0215 and slept until 0415. Then he wouldn't settle again, but I got DH up at 0645 and asked him to take over. DH just let me sleep until about 10 minutes ago!

mum41 Great to see you! How are you? Yup, Adam was born on 11th June by CS. He's doing great! Some pics on my profile and more at here.

dawn personally? I use A or Adam. I rarely use DS! Its supposedly to protect the child. I am not sure from what...

heron22 · 05/08/2009 09:17

morning all
jw so sad you have to let your doggy go
hope he finds a good home.

sounds like my DCs are the exceptions, DS1 was on GF and so is the LO now. i must say tho that the feeding times are only suggested times. so it can be plus or minus whatever! most of the time tho they are more than ready to eat!

it was very restricting during the early weeks. i was not able to go out spontaneously. but once the baby gets into the routine. so for eg right now LO is napping and will wake in about 30 mins. then we can go out if i want to. and the nights are restrictive really. meaning we need to be home at around 5pm. cos he goes down at 6pm. or he gets too tired and then wont settle.

it is definitely not for everyone. for us it works because i like knowing roughly what to expect when. so i can plan my day around his feed/sleeping needs.

BonzoDoodah · 05/08/2009 09:46

MUM41 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was thinking of you yesterday and was going to put a call-out but thought you'd gone for good. Where have you been? What have you been up to? I've had my boy too (10lb 6oz! - 2 weeks old today) since you've been gone.

aw jw how sad to say goodbye to the dog sniff.

Dawn I think as jw says we use DS or DD as it saves confusion when people don't really know you. I use M (for Matilda) a lot of the time. Bit stuck now I have a hubby and son who who are both Gs but tough ... hubby can stay as DH.

Tee sounds like tough sleeping. Glad your hubby is so helpful. G sleeps wonderfully at night (not bragging just grateful) fed at midnight then slept til 4:30 and then after a feed til 8:30 when he was "helped awake" by his darling sister.

It's M's second birthday tomorrow - eek where did that all go??? We're having a hoard of sprogs to play in the garden. So we have a mega shopping trip planned for party food, presents etc and then off to ikea - wwoooooo the excitement!!

Neddie · 05/08/2009 10:56

Hi
Thanks for suggestions- I hope no one got into trouble for their comments. I am always open to ideas, mainly because I was so random with my other children. I have always had to take them to work with me both at the stables and at my textile store and they just had to fit in. I now have less work and more help and 2 at once so I was going to try something different as I feel I was far from perfect. At least with e-bay I can see to the babies rather than rocking with one foot whilst cutting fabric or serving a customer at the same time. I most certainly didn't do the regime thing for the last 2 but if I was busy they had to wait a few minutes till I could see to them. I'm not sure you can do this with two which is where the dilemma comes.......I don't want to book myself into the local funny farm because I am feeding and changing and burping etc every minute of the day

dawntigga · 05/08/2009 12:05

Neddie you have a textile store?????

I need a link

It could be that I'm a fabric stasher or it could be that I make stuff. Not saying

ello all

hard to get on laptop as Mr D is whingy, hot and clingy again. Has a bit of a temp again and cough is more rattly so we are off to docs for an emergency appointment this afternoon.

off work again today - v glad I decided to stay at home with him.

I use the DP , DS malarky as it is the convention, plus D's name and the spelling of it makes me v identifiable, thereby restricting my ability to bitch and be indiscreet - which is no good!

Tee2072 · 05/08/2009 12:32

Sorry to hear that JW. Maybe she'll outgrow the allergy and you will be able to get another one in a few years.

mrsb oh no! I hope D feels better soon.

A seems to have this little cough, but its only once in a great while. So I think its just mis-swallowing...I hope.

He fell asleep at 9 when I got up and just woke up at 11:30! Meant I got to do yoga and have a shower after!!

mrsboogie · 05/08/2009 12:32

aww jw poor mutt.

wish I could say "cat is gawn"

johnworf · 05/08/2009 13:17

mrsb hope that D isn't too bad with his temp. Hopefully it'll be either something his body can fight off very quickly or the GP can give him something to alleviate it.

I won't be getting anymore pets now. That is it. I hadn't told my DC I was taking him as I knew what they'd be like (we've had him since a puppy and he's 8 now). Anyway, they do know now and they've been ringing me v upset and DSS is upset too. Even if she does outgrow it I won't be getting another. It's like having another child (well, almost)

tee great that A is back into the swing of sleeping

bonzo meant to say 2 already?! Blimey

My life is going too bloomin' fast these days matey peeps.

We're back - had a lovely time and were smart enough to hear on the radio that the M40 was closed, so cruised back the scenic route...hurrah, could this be the end of baby brain?!!

jw awwww, poor you - but you've done what's best for the family. Sorry doggy but there'll be another home along soon. Never had a dog so I can't know what it's like to get attached but I can imagine it's not easy

tee good to hear the night wasn't as bad as feared last night.

dawn I name my LOs - but only as I've been on hear so long that i've got used to it now.

neddie so you have another business in addition to the horses????? I won't ask where you get the time

bonzo OMG is M two....already? Blimey, well, have a lovely time.

mum41 had a lovely picnic and got just back before the heavy rain. Now it's hot, sweaty and the air is full of flying ants. Oh wow - your brood really have shot up! Your boys are SO handsome (makes mental note as possible suitors for the girls ) they look lively!!

Right - dinner to sort out - cuppa tea to be made and nappies to change. As you can see I lead a life so similar to that of 'The Beckhams'.......

Neddie · 05/08/2009 17:23

God I'm tired. Just got back from an appointment at work with a group from the local adult education place. They spent quite a bit on embroidery bits and bobs and shiny fabrics for their collages. We used to have a massive shop with several part-time assistants but with the internet it took the pleasure out of it. I have 4 City and Guilds so that I can sell the products and explain everything and then they go and buy online......I have a small warehouse in town and open 2 mornings a week and by appointment and I have an e-bay shop (which hasn't much on there at the mo. due to the tins). Dawntigga my mum and I have a saying 'the one who dies with the biggest fabric stash wins' but to be fair whoever doesn't win gets the fabric stash!!!!
I have about 50 cot quilt top designs alone.
My house is full of UFO's (unfinished objects)-the current one is the tins mobile!!!

Neddie · 05/08/2009 17:29

Ps. johnworf so sorry about your dog you must be really sad, especially having him for eight years, the little blighters become part of the family. Sends out hugs too.
