mornin all ... oops is THAT the time??/ better get dressed eh!? Had a lie-in while DH took DD to nursery and the day has crawled past me. Soooooo tired. I'd forgotten about the unremitting routine of feeding/changing /sleeping / start again in 4 hours that the baby dictates. Sigh. Fell asleep on the sofa with baby on my knee last night and then in bed during both night feeds. Good job I'm well anchored in with L-shaped pillows so no chance of baby falling.

Nothing to do today but feel I should do something. But what? Tiny sprog and no energy. Sigh. A year stretches ahead like a wasting disease.

Nearly cried reading this. Poor woman.

Hubby made us potato cakes (from left-over mash) and bacon and eggs for breakfast. At least the food is good here. Not looking forwards to him going back to work next week.

heron feel for you. Tell your DH that he has no idea the effort it takes to BF a baby and if you need to stop then you need to stop. There are advantages to continuing but if you are suffering then they dim in comparison. I love what DawnT said about the oxygen masks. Have you thought of a halfway house and just BF first thing in the morning and/or last thing at night and using formula in between? ........ Or maybe making your husband do star jumps during the time you are expressing - EVERY time you express and without stopping until you have finished expressing. And then when he says he needs a break say ... well it's for the baby's benefit!!!

Tee2072 · 03/08/2009 14:24

Whew. A just went down for his first proper sleep of the day. He's been dozing off and on in my arms most of the day. At least I'm getting a lot of West Wing watching done.

heron enjoy your spa! I'm very

I was getting into genealogy awhile ago, but had no money for signing up for research websites and the like. Maybe I'll pick it up again. Of course, can't really trace my family back very far, since it is 99% certain that most of them died in concentration camps in WWII. My great grandmother and her son, my mother's father, went to Boston at the turn of the 20th century and never really spoke to their Romanian relatives again after that. And no one knows about my dad's family. Still, might be interesting to at least try!

johnworf · 03/08/2009 15:12

bonzo I also read that story and it brought a tear to my eye too How could they miss a baby in there at each test?

JJ ah so, that's the book is it? How come you're struggling with it?

We've been to the park today and the boys went on the lake in a boat. Nice. Think the rain is about to arrive though.

Just got back from a walk up to the train station to meet DH. Its a nice little up hill walk, most likely negated by the bag of crisps I bought and ate while waiting for his train to get in. I am starving over the past few days. I am hoping its PMT so I can start my BCP!!

And grr, can't find my yoga DVD from before I got pregnant. I know I have one...

That article was indeed sad. Especially the doctor who did an internal? How the heck can you miss a pregnancy doing an internal?!?!

dawntigga · 03/08/2009 17:34

Neddie put that woman down and back away from the book now! DP wanted to take her on holiday with us but I wouldn't let him. I loath her ideas on child rearing and I think she sets unrealistic goals for you to achieve. I'd like to see the families it didn't work with - nothing works 100% of the time.

We had a sleep through from 2030 to 0420 last night - hurrah. Am trying for something similar tonight, no sleeping for Himself in the afternoon anymore!

johnworf · 03/08/2009 18:41

dawntigga can't stand the ideas of the woman who cannot be named. Can't believe people buy her dross.

Hurrah on the sleeping front

Got chatting to a fireman in the park today. He was very cheery and I was so glad I'd made the effort and put make up on Methinks I've still got it What? No idea but I still have it!

ermintrude13 · 03/08/2009 18:57

dawntigga I couldn't resist the awful pull of following JW's link to the story but was pleasantly relieved to find it wasn't an awful And Then The Baby Died tale. Nearly made me cry, same as Bonzo, because of what she went through, but happy ending. So if you do take a look don't be too fearful of ending up a wibbling weeping wreck.

JW Fireman, eh? I shall refrain from jokes about the size of his hose. Oops, I didn't manage .

(When my mum was at medical school in the early 60s she was one of only 3 women in her training group, the 2 others being a drop-dead gorgeous girl and a scientific genius. The consultant in charge was overheard discussing the female students and said. 'Well, one has the brains and one has great beauty, but the other has It.' That must be what you've got too .

johnworf · 03/08/2009 21:09

Hurrah! I've got it

Where has everyone gone of late? Are you all tucked up in bed before 9pm?

I saw pics on DM site of Ulrikas new body she's paid for. Made me a little jealous that she's got pert boobs. Mine are pancakes or as she put it...ping pong balls in a sock. Yep, that's me. No way I'd pay for surgery even if I could afford it. I am what I am, as that great philosopher Popeye once said.

See Jack Tweed is making an arse out of himself still. Who could have predicted that one?

Tony Hadley got married last weekend. I told him it was either her or me....ah well. Will have to make do with DH

Ok, I was hopping mad this lunchtime. I was listening to Jezza Vine as usual and the topic du jour was late potty training. They wheel Dr Sarah Jarvis on () who spoke such tripe I was tempted to ring in..and would have done if I wasn't up to my knees making tuna sandwiches. Anyhoo she was saying that late potty training could be down to disposables being too comfy and the child not knowing it was wet and being uncomfortable. Then went on with 'well at least I don't see nappy rash anymore now that we don't use terries'. UNTRUE! Cloth nappies don't cause nappy rash anymore than disposables! Jezza later in the interview suggested that maybe we should return to cloth nappies and she was horrified Bad, bad, bad.

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 03/08/2009 21:28

Fireman! Did someone mention fireman Cor - jw you must have the 'IT' factor...good on yer!

Ulrika - I saw those pics - it's just not real and anyway, I wouldn't want a teenager style body - unless I was like that naturally.

Nappy rash from Terries....duh....! Oh that Sarah Jarvis woman is a fool...how folk like her become GPs lord only knows. Probably the one who didn't have 'the brains' or 'the IT factor'

tee your family history would probably be a novel in itself - so many untold stories from that part of the world MIL found her great grandfather's dacha in Belarus, but most records had been destroyed in the Russian Revolution and the WW11. FIL doesn't like talking about the side of his family from Montenegro - too much of a chance they'd have been muslim and that wouldn't do at all !!!

Girls have just gone to bed They were buzzing ...such a busy day. I'm still happy from the fact Iris ate a risotto with chicken

johnworf · 03/08/2009 22:18

OOOOOOOoh well done on the risotto front. How on earth did you manage that? I picked up lots of carrots, broccoli and chicken from underneath K's highchair and am sure that none of her meal passed her lips

I wouldn't want Ulrika's body either. It'd look weird with my haggard old head/face and grey hair on top.

I meant to say last night that I finally caught a whole episode of GR Jones doing Rivers. Coincidentally it was the rivers of L'pool, Manchester and Yorkshire. Very good too. However, I'm finding him strangely attractive these days. No idea why. He's looking a bit more rugged rather than an anorak, although I quite like anoraks....

OP posts:
BonzoDoodah · 03/08/2009 22:29

I'm still up but wish I wasn't. winging little grot has been feeding on and off since 7:30. Every time we put him down he cries again. I feel like a human dummy. Starting to get fed up now. DH changin his nappy - and he's screaming the house down (as usual) - only stops when his feet are back in the babygrow. Any hints anyone??

Tee2072 · 04/08/2009 06:21

Morning all.

I actually was in bed by 9:30 last night. I was so tired I could barely speak and DH was on night duty so I crashed! And only woke up because I told DH to get me up at 5ish is he had a bad night. Sounds like it wasn't too bad but he got me up at 5:45 and headed back to bed for a bit before going to work.

I have decided to not worry about these people y'all discuss that I've never heard of, but just nod and smile.

bonzo swaddling. Swaddling is the one thing that can get my occasionally 'I am exhausted but do not want to sleep' baby to calm down and actually sleep. And he has a dummy.

JJ risotto! What a continental girl.

Today is finally my last appointment with the endos at antenatal clinic. I've actually stopped checking my blood 1000x a day. I didn't do that before I was PG, why do it after? I'm just eating the way I always did.

johnworf · 04/08/2009 07:48

Morning all.

Sounds like you and your DH at least got some decent sleep last night tee I just cannot think how you could impose hard and fast rules on caring for a child i.e. like out of a book. I've never had a manual for looking after any of my children. Half of it is common sense anyway.

Anyhoo, well done on being signed off today from endo people. I remember my last one with no fondness at all. The guy was a dork anyway but went on to tell me that 'I would be a prime candidate for Type 2 if I didn't lose weight'! Why don't you stop dressing it up and just give it me like it is? Hope yours is more cordial tee.

I might try K with some risotto. Noticed I had the rice in the cupboard last night. Never considered the little finger food, always the chunky stuff so I'll give it a whirl.

Ordered a baby gate last night from Tesco so pick it up tomorrow. She is very quick that child. Her crawling is quite funny...think caterpillar with a bit of knee crawling thrown in. She won't be getting a perfect 10 for finesse that's for sure!

Did I mention my tumble dryer packed up y'day? Well it was working apart from the door catch, which I bought a new part for. Then DH couldn't get it to fit properly. Next minute the whole thing is in pieces on the floor and he said 'ok, off to buy a new dryer!' All for a door catch And he's bought a crappy one to replace it. (lips are tightly shut and shall remain so)

bonzo can't think of any ideas I'm afraid other than what tee has already suggested. I think dummies can help unfortunately K would never have one. Still, that's another job I don't have to worry about; weaning off the dummy

Oh she's finally using the cup and feeding herself. I had visions of me still feeding her a bottle when she's 3. Next stop is the doidy but not yet, bit too soon

Btw I bought a new cd last week (yeah, yeah v old fashioned I know). North Sea Radio Orchestra if anyone likes the crap sort of things I do. Can thoroughly recommend

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 04/08/2009 07:55

JW I'm confused...where did I mention a book? The only book I even have is What to Expect The First Year and I haven't actually read it!!

YAYAYA K and a cup! Now, if she'd just eat...

Oops, my master calls...

jeanjeannie · 04/08/2009 07:55

Morning ladies. I feel grotty, nasty cough, gone to chest and didn't get much sleep...joy! Girls went to bed after 9pm and they were both up at 6

jw I too find GR Jones strangely attractive Gawd knows why she ate the risotto - I was expecting a huge screaming match...AND the chicken...me and DP were still quite shocked from it all this morning.

bonzo I was Verity's dummy for months. I found putting her to sleep on her front helped. I found with BF that their fronts get all snuggly and warm and then they're told to lie on their backs - making them all exposed - I'm convinced they don't like it. Just my theory but once I'd popped Verity on her front she at least went off like a light - rarely stayed asleep though!

good to hear it's your last appointment today tee

Supposed to be going to the farm today - but the rain is hideous so looks like we'll have to think of something else. Any suggestions?!

ermintrude13 · 04/08/2009 08:24

Morning all

Bonzo, at first Arthur screamed at every nappy change and still screams at every bath, but has just gradually become much more settled and spends longer periods being mellow and - melts my heart! - smiling. I'd forgotten how mad those first few weeks are because they have to feed constantly to build up the supply and if that bit's OK everything else is easier. But if they're colicky or windy or jumpy it can be a nightmare. It WILL pass and he'll become settled - try a swaddle as Tee suggested to help him feel cosier. I didn't put A on his front like JJ but did put him on his side in the early days which was the only way of preventing the startle reflex. He could then curl up and slept well like that.

Last night, at 5 wks old, he did 2 4 hour sleeps between 9.30 and 6.20 with one big feed.

Tee I believe they mean Griff Rhys Jones but it took me a while to work out.

JJ sorry you're feeling poorly. Grim and dull here too but DH has the day off so I think we'll go to see Harry Potter (or as much of it as baby will allow me). Not really suitable for your girls. Soft play? Many hours of making plasticene food? Jumping in puddles? Good luck.

JW Oh dear, tumble dryer incident sounds unfortunate. Very glad I've an airing cupboard and a drying rack. Sounds like K is coming on a storm with her eating.
Listened to that track and it's very lovely - will check out more of them.

How are you today Neddie? I expect the cooler weather is a bit of a mercy for the old legs.

johnworf · 04/08/2009 08:43

Sorry for confusion from my last post.

Yes, I did mean Griff Rhys Jones.

tee you and the book comment were non sequiturs. It is early and I was compiling a mini shopping list in my head at same time...so apols!

Can't help with early days suggestions as K was in her own hospital routine which had nothing to do with me. She was pretty regimental though doing every 3-4 hours as I can remember. She was swaddled just as she was in hospital.

ermintrude I have a maiden which I've been using. I use it all the time for nappies. Don't have an airing cupboard anymore. Had it removed when the combi boiler was put in.

K's eating is atrocious btw...but her drinking is fine I'm about to try her with scrambled eggs this morning. Always a worry I've had from years back and the older ones were little. Egg allergy. Only thing I recall you had to watch out for. My nephew cannot be near eggs as he's allergic and has an anapylactic shock if in contact with them. Still, she's 14 months old (11 months corrected) so she should be ok although I think in the olden days I didn't give eggs until 1 year...we'll see how it goes. It'll prolly all end up on the floor/in dogs mouth anyway !

jeanjeannie · 04/08/2009 08:47

jw oh no -a tumble dryer disaster is THIS weather Blimey. Yes, lips firmly shut on the el crappo replacement....you can just glare and go quiet when it dies.

Ah, the old stairgate ordered eh - excellent. Verity is still bum shuffling - no signs of crawling - I don't think she will. She's doing this weird thing where is looks as though she's going to stand up - holds the pose and sits down again. Maybe she's been studying Waybaloo!

erm good sleeping! I bet you really beat him with a stick and refuse boobie don't you! I bet you've got your own book of super-nanny style routines designed to get the little blighters to sleep

johnworf · 04/08/2009 08:54

JJ sounds like Verity will bypass the crawling stage. Many of them do. One day she'll just get up and take a daring step! My two boys never crawled and also bum shuffled. They'd still be doing it now if I'd allowed them to

Rain is here too JJ. Miserable. Think it'll be board games if we can get DSS off his xbox.

Btw, what's the forecast for your camping jaunt? Don't even know where you're going to be pitching the old Vango.

OP posts:
johnworf · 04/08/2009 08:56

Meant to add, don't really use tumble dryer that much. Good job as the one that the man in the shop sold him is a D energy rating. It'll chew electricity He know nothing!

Hope mrsb is ok. Not heard from her for ages. ARE YOU ALRIGHT LOVE?

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 04/08/2009 09:00

Blimey the rain is so bad here it's like being in a cloud at the top of Snowdonia !! I mean it's horrific.

jw camping on friday...MMMmm, well, according to the MET office (and we can all trust them eh?!) it's coming warm then and for le weekend. Believe it when I see it. We're pitching the Vango at a little site near the THames in South Oxford....should be nice. Taking Iris's bike and having lots of playing outdoors.......rain permitting!

Tee2072 · 04/08/2009 09:02

Oh okay, JW. I actually went back and read my post going 'what the heck did I say?!?!'

Looks like decent weather here so far. Have stuff to do around the house this morning and then popping the little man into his Bjorn for the trip to the Endo. Have to show him off!

erm I still don't know who that is!!

Better go get some chores done while A is content in his chair...I love that chair!!

dawntigga · 04/08/2009 09:23

jw Tony Hadley - swoon! I had such a crush on him as a teen. Met him once he wasn't very nice (that wasn't my first line) However, his cousin was the receptionist for a friends dentist. I'm waiting for him to come up on Chris Evans tenuous links slot

SmoochesToAllTiggaxx

Tabitha8 · 04/08/2009 09:41

Hmm. Washable nappies and nappy rash. It must just be me, then. Washing at 60 degrees, having soaked the nappies first for over two hours in a Mothercare nappy soak. I'm using non-bio powder. Aaaarrrgghh.

ermintrude13 · 04/08/2009 09:52

Tab I think rashes are more to do with baby's skin and its reaction to acid levels in wee/poo and to temperatures. Both my older DC occasionally got rashes with disposables, due to eczema, teething and tummy troubles. Thus far baby hasn't had a rash with cotton ones. I've been using washable fleece liners and recently introduced a flushable liner too, and all has been fine. Maybe experiment with liners? Or it could be - wait for it - 'just a phase'. Aaargh!

Ah yes, Tony Hadley, well of course I saw him live at my friend's wedding in January. . Turned him down, of course. It wouldn't have been right, me being 5 months pregnant and all....
