heron stop when you feel ready! Consider it the same as putting your oxygen mask on first - you have to be safe, sane and happy to have safe, sane and happy children!

heron22 · 02/08/2009 14:25

dawn not sure when i should stop. thats the thing i have so much guilt about stopping, i cant work out what i feel about it. will have to work it out!

tee both my kids always wore disposables as well.

johnworf · 02/08/2009 14:28

heron I really would have to sit your DH down (if I was you of course) and tell him you'd done your best and that your LO will be fine without BF, if that is what you have decided. You need to start thinking of yourself dear and being a bit kinder to yourself. Your DH ought to dip deep and find a bit of empathy for all the work with the 2 LO's you're doing. I'm sure you'll find a way to sort things out between you and you'll not be so 'bull at a gate' like my good self (I'd tell him where to go if it was my DH)

Wow tee that LO of yours is keepnig you on your toes. I'd like to console you by saying that it doesn't last but there's so many of us on here that are still getting up when they're months or even a year old....IME you just get used to walking around in the dead of night like a zombie and doing things for baby automatically.

Sat out on the patio today with laptop, cup of coffee...calm before the storm and the locusts descend.

Hope you're all having a good afternoon ladies

jw thanks will have a talk with DH. and wont respond to guilt!

ermintrude13 · 02/08/2009 17:44

Didn't make it to the beach yesterday - it was peeing it down so hard even hardy types used to the Brit seaside would have stayed away. Meatballs were yummy though

Then today we spent a lot of money: firstly booked a week in a caravan park near Edinburgh so we can all go up together, if DH needs to go and see things/have meetings I can take older DH to the pool etc and his work will contribute what they would have spent on his hotel, so we all benefit .

Then we went and bought a new car . 2nd hand Zafira, lovely dark blue colour and 9000m on the clock. Gulp.

I've never met an able-bodied reception child in nappies - can't believe they're on the increase. Playgroups round here insist on them being out of them at 2.5 yrs or they won't take them. There must be some very slow parents around but then we kind of knew that.

heron the b/f decision is yours and yours alone. The main nutritional benefits are certainly in the first 6 months, although some antibody transfer does continue I think, but if you'd be happier f/feeding and you've done half a year of b/f I don't think it's fair for you to feel under pressure or agree to carry on if you don't feel you want to.

We're doing OK with the washable nappies so far - I'm getting better at folding the boosters and putting the liner in correctly so they seem as good at holding in the mayhem as disposables. But A will be out of the Tots Bots size 2 soon and I'm not sure what to buy next - will check Ebay.

heron22 · 02/08/2009 18:06

ermin yes, it is my decision. so have to really put some thought into what i want to continue doing.

lovely car!

mrsboogie · 02/08/2009 19:01

'ello all

have I been missed? been in a heap on the sofa all day again. headswimming.

I am v puzzled by ermintrude's market square beach. never heard tell of such a thing.

disgusting re the ebaying of tamiflu - thing is it is illegal but ebay doesn't police it so if you want the satisfaction they will only take action if you report it to them. All you have to do is trawl the auctions and report everyone selling it. They will also get their ebay accounts suspended.

heron you have done your duty and now it is weaning time, really there's nothing to actually feel guilty about. Continuing after this point is simply a matter of choice for you - do it if you want, stop if you don't. The baby will suffer no ill effects. And if there is any residual transfer of antibodies at this stage well, so what? he will make his own - it makes no real difference unless you are in the third world. Children are meant to get sick - that is how the immune system develops.

heron22 · 02/08/2009 20:00

mrsb yes u have been missed! have u got a cold?

johnworf · 02/08/2009 20:24

Hi all.

mrsb are you still suffering with the dizziness? You need to get some meds. While you're seeing your GP ask them to check your ears. Could be a silent ear infection that's sending you off kilter. Hope you are literally back on your feet v soon

ermintrude well done on the new car I expect with the newness that everyone will be wanting a little trip out in it I guess you'll get to put it through it's paces on the way to Edinburgh. Hope you have a nice time there and that the weather bucks up.

heron pleased that you've decided in your own mind what you want. Baby will be fine. V resilient and robust those little ones are you know

Just got rid of rent a crowd. Dishwasher full to the brim so need to sort out cleaning before bedtime.

K has been in a vile mood all day. She's tugging her right ear so think it may be teeth related. She's flounced off to bed which is prolly a good thing really.

Can't think about Fleabay and Tamiflu. It is actually against Ebay regulations to sell prescription drugs so I have no idea how this person got around it. I can't even sell my second hand nappies on there without them removing them!

ermintrude talking of nappies, check out the used nappy threads on here. Much better deals than brand new ones and the girls that sell are v honest

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 02/08/2009 20:34

D in same foul mood all weekend jw unhappy and whingy constantly. Two tiny bottom teeth protruding.

I have vertigo heron I get it once or twice a year. most unpleasant.

its what I said below jw ebay doesn't police the listings but relies on people reporting illegal listings. Then they take them down.

Tee2072 · 02/08/2009 20:51

What a day. A has not slept for more than 20 minutes in a row all day. Not even in his pram while out at shops with DH or swaddled in my arms. At least it is Sunday and we could trade him off!!

mrsb of course you were missed. Sorry you're feeling rough. Feel better soon.

erm ooh new car. How I sometimes miss my car owning days.

JW have this image of a small girl flinging her hair over her shoulder with her nose in the air as she headed to bed. Hope she's feeling better in the morning.

I am not so sure the Tamiflu thing is illegal. They haven't been writing 'scripts for it, but vouchers. It is certainly immoral, however.

johnworf · 02/08/2009 20:57

EEEEp tee. What a naughty LO you have there. Cannot offer any suggestions as I have a little git monkey of my own.

She's a bit young for swinging hair over one shoulder (and not enough hair) but she can screech as loud as any of the big ones. They thought it was very amusing the filthy looks she was giving to everyone over dinner. She almost looked like her big sister. What a thought

Naw, we now have flinging arms out, struggling to get off your knee (like an eel covered in grease), smacking you in the face, pinching etc etc. It's very tiring. I'm sure she's suffering with the teeth though.

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 02/08/2009 21:11

Hello all - we're back and all in one piece - just! Gosh, the traffic - I've really forgotton the driving situation in London - it's mad.

tee sounds like you've got one wilful little monkey there!

jw we've got head-butting, squirming, shrieking (how loud??!)and constant crying to be held or played with. SOunds like you had a nice full, family day.

erm this has been an expensive day! Oooo, a Zafira...V nice. And Edinburgh too.....

Please don't think too badly of us who haven't potty trained yet... It's not for the lack of trying.... We got off to a good start but Iris still hasn't got the verbal skills to tell us when she's having a wee - so it generally goes everywhere. The paed said that we weren't to keep pushing it as LOs with expression language delays often retreat further if you keep pushing it. However I think we are very different from people who just can't be arsed. God, I'd love to drop one set of nappies!

Early night - very tired and have a dry cough that is keeping me awake and it's V annoying.

Tee2072 · 02/08/2009 21:42

I think we're all agreed JJ that we are referring to children without special needs of any sort. Obviously a child who cannot communicate will be harder to train.

A actually went down for the past hour! He's murmuring in his sleep, which usually means he'll be up in a bit. So I am hoping for Grobag, Bottle, bed for hours!!! [optimistic emoticon]

ermintrude13 · 02/08/2009 21:56

Tee opposite problem here, Arthur has been napping all afternoon after a 2-hr sleep this morning. Not sure the night will be as restful... good luck with yours!

JW I suppose we should be glad at signs of our LOs' growing independence . The hair-tossing image made me laugh - that's what my DD used to do when she was a grumpy toddler. Now if she's grumpy she glares sullenly through her hair exactly like I used to do

JJ Of course you are not included in the general tutting about potty training! Aside from anything else Iris is not yet at school, and it's not the same sort of situtation as a family in which parents can't be arsed to potty train. I still think there can't be that many of them though - wiping bums and changing nappies takes effort too and becomes increasingly yucky as the child grows and expands its diet... I was so shocked when we began weaning and the poo becomes normal poo. Blleeurgh.

We're still on the yellow mustard effect now, and I believe there is a nappy to change this very moment. And then, I hope, to bed. night night.

jeanjeannie · 03/08/2009 08:10

Morning. Gorgeous sun here - think we're going to try and make the most of it I see there is rain on the way....fingers crossed it drys up before camping on friday

Oh I forgot to say - we had our first trip yesterday to the Golden Arches of Maccy D's Anyway - I've not been there in years and is hardly on our radar as a place that sells fodstuffs. Needless to say it was an interesting round of nappies this morning

What excitment lay ahead for everyone else today?

Tee2072 · 03/08/2009 08:30

Morning all.

There was much joy and hosannas sung to the goddess when the Small Boy, Adam, finally fell asleep around 9:30 last night and remained asleep at 10:00 when he was moved to his bed. There was even more praise sung when he didn't waken until 1am. And then, tragedy struck (name that cheesy TV show that I am quoting...)...didn't settle again until 3. Then up at 4:30. Back down at 5. Up at 6:30. At 7 DH got up to start his day, A was put down and I went and slept for another hour. And now? He's asleep.

I did have many plans for today, including some more shoe hunting (can you call it shopping if you never find shoes worth of trying on, never mind purchase?) and clothes perusing. Instead, alas, it is pouring from the heavens here. So I think we'll stay home and finish our thank you notes and do some other around the house type things.

JJ shock horror that you would go to that place of clownish evil!!! I go about once a year myself, enjoy it at the time and regret it later. I see you've had the same experience.

Neddie · 03/08/2009 09:24

Hi all still alive!
Tins? - I'm definitely having a c-section if that's what they are going to be.
I am ringing midwife this morning to check that legs swelling to Michelin proportions is normal. I feel such a baby- I never have time off work and will even go with my leg hanging off (or nails through feet as earlier in the year)but this has got me beaten. I have also discovered that I have a reaction to Cheshire cheese with mango in it which has twice left me projecting in both directions (TMI)and definitely not what you want to be doing with tins! Shame the cheese tasted lovely.
Have read as much as I can without fainting of Gina Ford twins book- Oh Lordy what a regiment I will have to accomplish- lucky I have a German partner (excel sheets here we go).
Speak soon
Soon to be seen from space Neddie X

Tabitha8 · 03/08/2009 09:32

JJ Researching family tree? My dad's done a lot of ours. How exciting. A lot of people look at a Mormon website, I think. In the days before the internet, he had to go and look at the old parish records.

Anyone on here using washable nappies, do you find nappy rash is worse than with disposables? Any tips? I've tried olive oil and it seems to help, as well as a barrier cream.

duchesse · 03/08/2009 09:58

Depends what size they are Neddie- they probably won't be catering/ cash and carry size- probably not the little diddy baked beans ones either though!

johnworf · 03/08/2009 10:07

Morning all...lie in until 9am. Pure bloody luxury

K had me up at 5.30am and DH up at 1am. It's def due to not eating enough food in the day.

tabitha K hardly ever had nappy rash apart from teething times. It's not due to the cloth nappies as that is all she wears. If anything, she gets a rash from the odd disposable she wears. Are you washing at high enough temperature?

I've given up my Ancestry.co.uk subscription as they upped the price and I was already paying out £87. Managed to get back to 1823 on my dad's side before I left it though

Sun here too and we're off out for a drive and the park while the weather is good. JJ didn't know you were off camping this week. Hope the weather holds out. Packing up a wet tent isn't fun...neither is getting it out again at home to dry it out.

I've bought some more Dr Browns bottles last night and gone for the BPA free ones. No idea if it'll make a difference seeing as she had the ones with BPA in them for so long.

neddie question: why are you reading the book by the unmentionable one? She's no better than Dr Spock in my mind (no ladies, nothing to do with Star Trek...that's Mr Spock ) You've had babies before. You don't forget you know

tee sorry to hear that A is sleeping no better. It's best NEVER to mention to routine word as it just tempts fate! Sounds like his night and days are back to front.

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 03/08/2009 10:21

I am not even sure its that, JW since he isn't sleeping during the day either!! I think he's just being nearly 8 weeks old and there is nothing we can do about it!

duchesse its not so much the size of the tins that would worry me if delivering naturally, but the shape.

Trying to scurry around doing stuff while A is content in his bouncy seat...be back later!

heron22 · 03/08/2009 10:50

morning all! nice sunny day here today hope the dreaded rain does not come!

i am a big fan of the R word - routine
and our routine is based on GF routine i know it is not for everyone. it suits us mind you, i do not follow it to a T. have adjusted it to suit us.
now that LO will take bottle from DH, i am booking myself into a spa hotel for this fri staying for 1 night. DS1 will not be happy cos i tuck him into bed everynight. BUT mummy needs a break!

jeanjeannie · 03/08/2009 13:00

Blimey, there I was, scouring the DM for gossip and came across a HUGE pic of one of my oldest mates and a wacking editorial (advert in wolf's clothing!) for her new book Still haven't got past page 10 mind you !

heron I got on far better with a lose routine when bottle feeding Iris then I ever did with BF Verity. @ your spa night away!

neddie bless you and your widening girth and I'm sure trying to establish some sort of routine with two isn't such a bad idea!

jw cor, that was a fab lie in - well done you. I'm most disappointed in my family tree and that I'm clearly related to no one interesting. That is apart from the less-beared one in Chas & Dave....do they count?

Off to friend's house for a cuppa - back later

ermintrude13 · 03/08/2009 13:22

Well little A is still just doing the one wake between 11 and 7. Maybe my breastmilk goes like Slimfast in his stomach? . During one of his morning kips I expressed 1oz milk just to reacquaint myself with the old hand pump, and to start a little store ready for the time I need a haircut and he'll need to try a bottle of the stuff. DD couldn't stop watching even though she said it was 'mank'. (which reminds me of DS the other day - DH and I were cuddling up on the bed, more out of exhaustion than passion, and DS ran into the room, stopped at once and ran out again saying 'That's just soooo wrong.'

JJ there's a fancy friend! I didn't realise it was non-fiction, that's totally different from giving up on a story at p10 .

JW and Tabitha my ma is obsessed with genealogy - she's done all ours and now offers to do everyone else's. She was always good at Cluedo and I'm sure she brings the same skills to bear

heron I don't like routines when I read them from a book - that's just me being contrary - but in real life it's very reassuring to know that your LO will sleep from round about x to y most days, will need a bigger feed at z etc. At only 5 wks I'm not imposing anything on A right now but a few little habits are already forming naturally. Have a lovely time in the spa! (and take your pump, just to avoid discomfort!).

Neddie are you practicing that b/feeding hold for twins when you get them both into a half-nelson? .
