heron22 · 01/08/2009 18:47

oh god, this is so stressful! listening to LO cry!

jeanjeannie · 01/08/2009 18:53

Ooooo jw will you be having WHITE wine with that dry chicken curry ????? Hahahah, I'm such a wine lout - you've rumbled me. I'd be hard pressed to tell a Lambrusco from a Chardonay

I really should try reading more. I tried to read my mate's book last night - I was asleep by page 10......not boding well.

mrsB oh that sounds horrid - and sounds a bit like Minieres which I know is a shocking thing to have. Poor you. Did you get your moussaka made?

Your neighbours sound awful - sound like they should live on our road

Well, it's a dark, rainy night - bloomin cold too. THe girls are not looking remotely tired. Think it's going to be a long old evening.

Tee2072 · 01/08/2009 19:33

Um I had red wine while cooking chicken quesadillas...I'll go sit next to JJ.

heron no suggestions, sorry. This might just be one of those things that you have let them cry it out and get over it!!

johnworf · 01/08/2009 19:34

heron sounds like you're gonna have to feed your LO if you want to get the milk down him. Babies are peculiar creatures sometimes and we parents don't get a say in the demands they dictate. It is awful listening to them cry but I'm sure he'll drink when he's hungry. You might just have to take your breaks when he's sleeping

JJ marking your card now and arresting you for crimes against appelation controlee Bad girl!

I've been on a few wine tasting courses and even a champagne one (very nice). Alas all wasted since I gave up on the vino. Still, I know my Blue Nun from a Chablis

.......hands JJ a nice bottle of warm Black Tower.

DSS's mother has Menieres disease and you would think she was at death's door with it. I can only wish.........

OP posts:
heron22 · 01/08/2009 19:34

ok 90 mins after DH first started to try give LO his feed, LO is finally accepting bottle from DH

or at least i think he is, cos it is all quiet in the room.

heron22 · 01/08/2009 19:37

yes jw they are peculiar creatures. looking back, i was really glad when DS1 got old enough to be able to talk, listen and reason with (up to a point!).

today is DH's bday and as much as it was nice to have both boys with us (as usual), DH and I found ourselves wishing that we could have the day together, just him and I. talking, eating in peace, relaxing.

it is hard not having family around us.

heron22 · 01/08/2009 19:38

hmmm, wine...

Tee2072 · 01/08/2009 19:39

heron I have the same problem, not having family around us. How nice it would have been to be able to pop into a relatives' house on Thursday when we were evacuated!!

johnworf · 01/08/2009 20:06

No family here either. No grandparents to speak of (or are dead). Just us and the kids.

Just the way I like it

aye, we are lucky having DP's parents close by, they would happily take D for a day (and they do, twice a week) but he loves them both madly and doesn't cast a backward glance when we drop him off there. We hardly ever ask for babysitting per se as I would hate to take advantage. Definitely planning to dump lovingly deposit him there and abscond to the Edinburgh comedy festival when he is older.

Speaking of cultural matters - I like the look of the Hilary Mantel book that was reviewed on News night review last night - its about Thomas Cromwell - I love her writing. I keep seeing books I want to read but must read the ones I have bought and not read first. Must get back into it instead of idly watching shite on telly at night

if only the child would go to bed before eleven at night .

heron you have the patience of a saint If I had bf'd I would have been expressing and getting DP to feed him from the off. But then earth mother I sure as hell ain't.

There's nowt wrong with red wine with chicken. Nowt.

jeanjeannie · 01/08/2009 20:55

Gosh - I'd be run ragged into the floor if it wasn't for the fab breaks I get from my MIL! It's nice for Iris too. And it'll be Verity's turn soon.

mrsB you're way too cultural for me! I've not read a sensible book for years. Closest I've got to it was Mark Steele's book on the French Revolution!

heron good to hear LO is taking feeds from DH. It's probably because he just wants a bit of comfort and perhaps he's not as hungry as you think? Clearly though it sounds as though you got it licked.

Going to be another early night Me thinks. Off to 'Sarf' London tomorrow to see fabulous friends and their DSs. FIngers crossed for at least a snippet of sun.

johnworf · 01/08/2009 21:23

Oh get you the gadabout town JJ. Hope you have a lovely time

flicks through her diary and sees months of empty pages ahead of her..........

An upside of staying in all the time is that I do have a backlog of books that I'm slowly getting through. I can't believe I haven't watched Corrie or Eastenders for weeks now. Just not bothered with them these days. Can't be bothered watching tbh.

As for grandparents...well, what you've never had you never miss. MiL died last year, FiL is in a nursing home and my parents I don't see from one year to the other. No, they don't live in a faraway country. They both live in Manchester. I don't ask and they don't offer

Just bidding for stair gates on Fleabay. Looking for 2 good ones. K can now crawl all over the house at speed. She zipped out of her bedroom tonight and into DSS's while DH was getting a nappy Good job she didn't go near to the stairs. Phew. So that's that. She's mobile. It's official. Next step will be walking I guess. DVD player has been switched off as she thinks it's a toy and can now reach it easily.

My world is getting smaller by the day Boo bloody hoo!

Got waylaid by going back to doing my family tree. I've been researching it for my dad - who has never got to the bottom of his lot. They all lived within spitting distance of each other along the waterside in SE London. But it seems that they came down from Glasgow via Durham and Kinsale in Cork - a good evenings detective work - I think he'll be pleased.

OOOooo jw And shes....OFF! She;ll be getting under your feet, you won't know if it's the dog or K!

Nighty night.

ermintrude13 · 01/08/2009 22:43

(makes mental note: even a book by JJ's mate only keeps her attention for 10 pages, sounds like a v demanding reader, gulp)

MrsB If I went to Edinburgh with DH and DC I suspect he'd go to see lots of shows while I sat b/feeding baby whilst older 2 had pillowfights in a grim Travelodge room.

I prefer red wine so drink it with anything. Or nothing. Tee I think drinking red wine whilst cooking anything is pretty much vital

We did Ikea and I ended up eating meatballs using my left hand (I'm r-handed) whilst b/feeding A so we are both stained with gravy and lingonberry . The rain was so hard in the afternoon that we gave the beach a miss, so still can't report back on it.

Managed 2 episodes of The Wire this evening, joy! Night all.

johnworf · 01/08/2009 22:57

It's started already with the Tamiflu How many days ago did I predict this?

This man is scum. I hope he is arrested. Ebay should also be prosecuted for allowing this to be advertised.

Off to bed in a huff...annoyed at arseholes...

g'night x

Waves to everyone.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother with MN then I come onto this thread and the post-natal thread and remember why

There are some judging/cynical harpies on here! And yes, they are some of the first to jump on others should they percieve judging.

ConfiningHerselfToAFewThreadsAndStayingAwayFromChat/AIBUTiggaxx

johnworf · 02/08/2009 07:50

Morning ladies!

Ah yes dawntigga there are many to judge on here

You know we were talking about BLW the other day? Well I dares ya to go on the BLW thread and say you don't agree with it...go on...double dare That would be a prime example of harpies

Yes, we're all warm and cuddly on this thread, I must admit. Actually don't remember any fallings out on here since we first started going (guestimation February 2008? Correct me if I'm wrong). We're either very like minded or so old and weather beaten we can't be arsed challenging. LOL

Good night last night and K slept until 7am. Think it's because she actually ate something semi solid for her tea. It's proving to be really difficult getting her to eat solids now. She wants to do it herself but usually swipes everything off the table before her onto the floor (into waiting dogs mouth). If I get the spoon out then lips are tightly pursed. Anyway, I persevered and pretty much made her eat last night.

On a lighter note, I love the lego house that James May is building and planning to live in for a couple of days. Think it's a follow up to his plasticine garden that he made for RHS. Brilliant man who moves up my shaggable list to Number 2

Saw this story this morning re children starting primary school in nappies. Why is this? Do parents these days not know how to do it or can't be bothered?

Back in the olden days when mine when into reception class, they wouldn't take your child if they still wore nappies. It was as simple as that!

OP posts:
dawntigga · 02/08/2009 08:56

jw Hurrah for the good night with K - you should let her take her spoon to bed she'd sleep right through. Have you tried using her spoon to feed her? Imagines mess that would make

Have to admit to having a soft spot for James May myself He does Thundersprint in Northwich - yum Oh god, he's a guilty pleasure isn't he!!!!!

I think that children start primary school in nappies because the majority of children are in disposables and are comfy in them. We currently have Sam in disposables but intend to go reuseable fairly soon to help him recognise when he facilitates his bowels I couldn't be arsed being a new bf'ing mum and having to scrape/wash nappies from the get go! I make absolutely no apologies for it

As for the rest, I think there is a lot of sparrow/budgie mentality on here. I think this thread is warm and cuddly because frankly we've all been there and done that and now we know that it's hard enough concentrating on your own life without judging other peoples.

heron22 · 02/08/2009 09:18

morning all! hope you all got reasonable rest last night

jw well done K for sleeping so well!
mrsb i am fast running out of patience. told DH that i am thinking of stopping expressing milk. he then went on about how breast is best etc. i said LO is 6.5 months old now, how much longer should i do it for? he then went on about how LO is getting antibodies etc from breast milk.

help!!!

heron22 · 02/08/2009 09:21

i got my first period since LO was born 4 weeks ago. can i expect the next period to be regular ?

jeanjeannie · 02/08/2009 09:29

Morning all - it's SUNNY
And we're off - wish us luck as we're heading into deepest, darkest south London...OOOOooooooOOOOOOOOoooooo!

heron stop if you want to. As we all say, a happy mummy is a happy household. You, my girl, have walked the walked.....and more with all your expressing. Soon be weaning full-on and then, quite frankly most of the nutrients will be gotten from solids. Breast milk changes and once weaning starts it becomes more of a drink and less of a food. It's an ever-evolving substance. I think (without checking with the BF harpies!!) that anti-bodies only really work for the first few months - after that they have to start building up their own immune system.....as they can't go on getting immunity from you! Don't let DH take you on a guilt trip. You are in the tiny 5% (think it's about that much!) of women who even get to 6 months....and their babies aren't all lying in the gutter suffering. Lecture over - pat yourself on the back and do what YOU need to do xx

James May - yep, totally get it....even DP occasionally like his shirts!

LOL@ K eating her food off a big wooden spoon!

OK ladies, have a good one - BYEEEEE!!!!!

heron22 · 02/08/2009 09:39

jj have a great trip to deepest darkest south London!

thank you for your support! will check with BF harpies

johnworf · 02/08/2009 10:05

JJ have a good un in the outside world

Anti-bodies from BF run out at 6 months if I remember rightly.

dawntigga cloth nappies are really like anything new..you get used to them. I wouldn't be without mine now and even DH can do it without any problems (that's saying something). If you're after some cheap ones to start with look on the resuable nappy thread on MN. I've bought a few (and sold a few) on there. If you're after any advice there is always here (natch) or there is a cloth nappy users thread (more like fanatics!). I think cloth nappies are addictive though. Prolly explain why I have so bloody many

Ok, off to get DS#2 then to pick up a rocker I bought from Fleabay. DS#1 + g/f this afternoon and finally DD#1 landing sometime afterwards. It's her dads b'day today and she's coming here for her 'second tea'. I'm not kidding either. And she weighs about 8 stone. Makes me sick

Tee2072 · 02/08/2009 10:12

Ug. Down at 10. Up at 1230, 2, 5, 7...got DH up at 7 and went back to bed.

JW I know in the States, unless they have special needs, a child must be out of nappies before starting school. I think anything else is ridiculous.

dawn I don't think that's why. I think it is lazy parenting, myself. Adam wears disposables and always will. Believe me, he lets me know when he's wet or dirty, even at 7 weeks!

heron I agree with JJ. Do what you think is best. DH isn't the one feeding him. I usually think parenting decisions should be joint, but no this particular one!!

JJ enjoy deepest darkest south London! I hope you've had all your vaccinations.

Once again, I had to look up who the heck James May was. Thank god for google! Shaggable? Maybe.
