Neddie, I still think that yours will come before mine...

Just seen oldest child (barely 16) off for his first transatlantic flight alone. He's going to spend 3 weeks in LA with my brother. He has to change in Toronto and everything, and yet is completely unfazed. I can't believe they get to this stage in such a short time. It seems only yesterday that he was a baby, then demon toddler, and now he's basically virtually independent enough to go it alone... sniff...

ermintrude13 · 30/07/2009 11:01

Happy birthday Bonzo and hurrah for a 5 hour sleep, Gregory must have known it's a special day for you

Neddie hang on in till DP gets here - not long to go - how exciting. I wonder if you do get them out before duchesse's LO turns up. Transatlantic flights, yikes. Mind you, DD has walked to and from school for 2 yrs, now goes down to the park to meet her mates by herself and so I suppose the stages of indpendence will develop. Joining you in the sniffing about it.

JJ I've got a rotten cold and am trying to feel glad it's only a cold but I so rarely get them that I resent it strongly . DD and DS1 had it mildly but fortunately Arthur hasn't started snuffling yet. Glad you went out last night and had a good time.

Tee 2 wakings here too, went back to sleep pretty well but I think I'm feeling the accumulated sleeplessness today - totally wiped out.

A couple of girls I go out for a drink with are coming here tonight instead (DH out at a meeting) and I was going to zip to M&S for some wine and nibbles but it's started pouring with rain and I'm really relieved I don't have to go out, how lazy is that!

Have good days all.

jeanjeannie · 30/07/2009 11:03

Yes, where IS jw today? are you on school holiday duties with DSS?

mrsB oh poor D - that sounds really rough

dawntigga yes, you were missed! I shall indeed avoid St Agnes! Pray what bike will the boy be riding? My friend has a Laverda Joto - with I'm rather partial to for classic styling and orangness!

heron cold is feeling a bit better - throat is ruff though.

MIL late - grrr and now the rain is pouring down

jeanjeannie · 30/07/2009 11:07

Oooo, a duchesse and neddie sweepstake.I'm going to put a fiver on neddie Sorry duchesse Gosh - what an amazing adventure for your DS!!

erm wine and nibbles with friends sounds very pleasing. I know what you mean about resenting a cold. I was the healthiest person before LOs...they're little packages of germs!

johnworf · 30/07/2009 11:23

Morning all (it is still morning methinks).

Been busy with my chauffeur hat on this morning. Dropped DD#1 at work as the rain is so bad. We had thunder and lightning too. Then on to get DS#2. Settling K and about to start on some housework.

mrsb poor D At least the tooth is through now and the horrible pains/dribbling might subside. K was up around 4am here for a bottle. Think it's to do with feeding, which I will come to soon.....

duchesse yes they get their independence in bits and pieces and then bam! they're gone. Before you even realise it they're grown up and off. I think that is probably what prompted me to want to have K so much.

Hippo birdies two ewes bonzo Enjoy your cake.

On the subject of cake, I have had to have a serious talk with myself about eating crap. Back to the grind and I'm ensuring I'm taking the xenical 3 times a day again now.

Ok, to K's feeding. She will simply not have, and is totally refusing, anything on a spoon. She's baby led weaned herself (after all I said about what tosh it was). She will only have what she can put in her mouth by her own fair hands. End of story. No discussion to be had. Screams ensue if the spoon comes out Tbh not sure she's getting that much inside her which is why I think she had a bottle during the night as she never wakes for one.

neddie hope that you hang on until at least the weekend. I had the steroid injections for K although not many as didn't have much time. By my guestimations you're around 34 weeks? Well that's not too bad and babies shouldn't need help with breathing by then

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 30/07/2009 12:33

I had a full pack of Xenical and I can't find it anywhere - must look properly tonight - am deffo on the slippery slide too jw homemade chocolate muffins on a Wednesday night indeed
speaking of which they were yummy and v chocolately and OH ust emailed me saying they are fab and he is on his second one - I will have none of course...

I know what you mean about resenting the colds - before D I hadn't had one for years - ever since I stopped smoking 6 yrs ago they were few and far between. Now they are regular and nasty and it ain't funnny. Like I say First Defence can work.

jeanjeannie · 30/07/2009 16:49

Afternoon all - back from shopping - Oh, the excitment!

DOn't talk to me about the slippery slope or I'll have to confess to the pack of fig rolls (they're good for you aren't they? that's fruit!)I've just eaten Not all by myself of course....Verity helped me

jw Verity also refuses a fork now - was a spoon before that. Now I have to watch her smash a weetabix all in her mouth or flick it about with a spoon. Warning all....clean weetabix or Oatibix immediately as it has the drying time of 60 second nail varnish and once set, all the properties of concrete

Seriously though I now what you mean about get stuff inside them. Sausages tonight - but it'll be with rice as she enjoys stuffing that in her mouth! Can't face the mayhem of mash!

mrsboogie · 30/07/2009 17:19

D started off wanting to do the finger food thing but will now only accept food in his hand if it is hard and crunchy (like chips or biscuits ) anything soft, moist or squishy gets dropped to the floor instantly and mashed about with a look of great disdain.

johnworf · 30/07/2009 18:02

Oh I love fig rolls. You are the only person I know that likes them apart from myself and my DD#1 (whisper: I believe they are good for you, yes.)

Ok, seems that those of about that age are all doing the same thing with food. We had sausages and mash tonight (I didn't. Stir fry for me). Glad I spied on your shopping trip

K ate a little bit of yoghurt that DH gave to her then lost interest and wanted the spoon instead - which promptly goes on the floor. Then a banana. Smashed into the table then smeared over her face in the mouth region (sometimes). Cheese and apple for lunch and most of it went to the dog.

She's also squealing/screaching/yelping most of the time she isn't 100% occupied. It's really got me down today I must admit. The constant cacophony from one so small I left her with DH and mopped the floor to have some time out. Don't really like getting DH on the case as by day, he is working....gawd I needed it though. These are the days I envy working mums.

We're in discussions re getting a new(er) car. Did a quick reckie today and everything seems so expensive. We're downsizing. We only got the Doblo when we were heavily into camping, before babies came along. We won't be getting the tent out for at least 2 years so seems silly to have such a big car to get around in. However, the alternatives are so pricey. EEk. May have to just put up with what we've got.

Tee2072 · 30/07/2009 18:26

I'll get caught up later, just wanted to tell you my storey from today...so remember I was going to sit around and watch TV? Instead:

10:30 loud pounding on flat door. 'there's a smell of gas, get out of the building'

Cue me running like a madwoman around the place, getting food for him, diaper bag, etc. More banging on the door.

Stuff Adam into baby Bjorn, since I can't use the lift.

Call DH at 10:45 from the street, leave voicemail.

11:00 Phoenix Gas arrives.

11:30 Get told it will be hours. Head to City Centre.

12:30 finally get DH on the phone. Eat lunch at pizza express. Go shopping.

1:00 DH rings, he's coming home from work, can't concentrate worrying about what is going on at flat.

1:50 DH rings, from flat, no sign of gas co, no sign of anyone. Grabs pram and meets me at City Centre. We shop a bit and come home.

3:00 Tee falls into bed until about 20 minutes ago and is now going to make dinner.

Please note: When knock on door came? I was still in PJs and unwashed. Forgot to brush hair before heading out. Who did I run into at City Centre? My hairdresser, who said 'good thing you're coming to see me on Saturday...'

How was everyone else's day?

duchesse · 30/07/2009 18:27

D'you think that baby brain is catching?

Husband drove oldest to Heathrow this morning in the family diesel jalopy (07 reg). He filled it up with petrol after dropping boy off, and then drove down the M4 until it broke down. He's had it flushed but it still doesn't work, and it looks like he's done something to it inside, so he's being towed back by our breakdown service the remaining 200 miles. The twit.

Just as well they put a giant bloody sticker inside the petrol cap reminding you before you fill up that it's DIESEL, not petrol, you utter nincompoop, isn't it?

I am serene, I am serene, I am serene...

mrsboogie · 30/07/2009 18:28

D's thing isn't so much noise (although he does that too) as wanting to be stood up All. The Time. So you either have to let him stand between your legs to watch him or he will clamber upright using nearby furniture and get giddy and fall over. He will refuse to be sat down most of the time and you can't physically get him to bend in the middle to sit down. I think they find it a bit wearing in the nursery too because we sometimes get remarks about him throwing wobblers if they try to make him sit or do anything but stand.

It's great that he is healthy and strong of course but don't think I would be very good with that 5 days a week. It's a case of grass is greener sometimes whether you are SAHM or a WOHM but personally I think working three days a week and at home the other two would be the ideal situation for me.

johnworf · 30/07/2009 18:44

Can sympathise with you on the standing. K can't stand on her own without thinking she can walk and reaching for something before toppling over. Then she'll scream as she wants to be on her feet. If I leave her sat on the floor of her bedroom for 20 seconds to put the nappy in the bucket, I'll hear her cry as she's tried to climb to standing against the cot and banged herself.

It must be frustrating for them but it is for us as well. I don't remember all this stuff when my older ones were little. I think I've had my memory wiped in the intervening years (or it's dementia).

duchesse ouch @ car. I must admit it's one of my biggest fears when I'm filling up as we're diesel too. I check about 3 times before I press the pump to start to fill. My stepfather once did exactly what your OH did...buggered up the engine totally. No idea of the technicalities of it all but he ended up with a different car.

I thought that petrol pumps were made smaller so that a petrol nozzle wouldn't fit in there? No idea. Might have dreamt that up.

tee did you end up roaming the city centre in your pj's?? That's one of my recurrent nightmares btw. Glad to hear that all is well but why didn't the gas company think to let you know that the coast was clear? Now if I was you I would be sitting down tonight to write a letter of complaint about said communication botch, stating I had a tiny baby etc etc etc. Writes itself really

OP posts:
duchesse · 30/07/2009 18:47

jw I just googled the effect of filling a diesel car with petrol and wish I hadn't. A four figure sum to have the engine rebuilt entirely (not covered by insurance) seems to be standard. I'm really worried now.

Apparently it's easy this way around, but diesel nozzles are too wide to fit into a petrol engine fuel tank, so very rare the other way around.

duchesse · 30/07/2009 18:48

And as we have one of each I always make trebly sure as well that I'm filling up with the right thing. I can't think what he was thinking of. I can't say anything to him though- he'll be feeling crap enough about it as it is.

Tee2072 · 30/07/2009 19:17

JW No I managed to throw some clothes on while getting his diaper bag together. Luckily I keep the diaper bag pretty much packed at all times.

I am not only writing a letter to Gas Co, but to management company of building, as very badly handled.

heron22 · 30/07/2009 20:12

tee what a day for you and A!

DH offered to give LO his 8pm feed. so off DH goes and next thing, i hear this piercing screech from LO. i think he knows if it is me feeding him. naughty! how can i go away if he wont feed from DH?

johnworf · 30/07/2009 20:14

Good for you tee Hope you get some joy from BOTH of them

duchesse don't know what to say. It's just one of those things that any of us could do in a moment where we're not thinking properly. Go easy on him

Has everyone fallen asleep early tonight?

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 30/07/2009 20:30

Okay, now I can get caught up!

neddie glad you checked in. Sounds like it won't be long now!! Do keep us posted as you can.

dawn I have to know..what did St Agnes lie about? And how were your scones? mmm scones...

mrsb yicky what a bad night and yikes with the saliva chokage. Hope that tooth comes through soon.

heron I've been on Xanax for anxiety for years, only going off of it when I wanted to become pregnant. I was also on Trazadone for depression, but it makes me very sleepy, so trying to get by without it, since I have to take care of A. So I am back on my Xanax, thank god, so glad of it today or I would have been a total wreck.

duchesse sniff for you. I can only imagine how fast it all goes. Adam is 7 weeks today and I can't believe how fast that has gone! And OOOPS to your DH!

JW interesting that K won't eat from a spoon, but will cuddle one!

After sleeping from 10:30ish to 2:00 in his Baby Bjorn, Adam was then awake until about 5 minutes ago. Poor DH had him as if I hadn't fallen into bed after the morning I had, I was going to kill someone. Baby Bjorn very handy, but is exhausting to carry that much extra weight for that long. Kinda like being pregnant again!!

jeanjeannie · 30/07/2009 20:34

I'm awake...just!
duchesse oh cripes.....and on the M4 too...blimey. Thanks for the warning though - as it's easily done and I'd not realised that it was easier with a diesel...must remember that, next time I'm half asleep and filling up.

mrsB it is knackering and I can tell you - with two under three there are some days when I wonder what the heck I've done!!!

tee your gas drama certainly was more dramatic than a day slumped infront of the TV

jw Verity may not be able to cruise or pull herself up yet but heck, she's learned how to scream until I give her a ride on her rocking lion! It's amazing that she doesn't fall off ...I mean she goes like a daemon!

MORE fig rolls....passes them round

Tee2072 · 30/07/2009 20:38

Oh I forgot to say...the Chocolate Fudge Cake with Vanilla Gelato at Pizza Express? Pure bliss on a plate...

mrsboogie · 30/07/2009 20:56

yum

johnworf · 30/07/2009 21:15

tee you're a meany teasing us with thoughts of nice cake-i-ness

Have had antiD's years ago for PND. Did what they said on the tin. I've now come to realise that no pill will cure my old age grumpiness

Heck, it's friday tomorrow. This week has flown by. Is that an sign that I'm enjoying myself too much?

Both DD#1 and DS#2 have offered to babysit for me. Wonderous news! This is what having kids is really about..when they start doing things for you Oh! I thought the day would never arrive. I'm seriously considering their offer.

DD#1 has a new b/f. He's loaded. That girl can sniff out loaded men at 10 paces. After the last one (who started off well and went downhill fast) it's a relief that someone else can burden the taxiing service. Apparently he has a Morse-type jag. I haven't seen it but DH twitched the curtains when he dropped her off y'day.

OP posts:
dawntigga · 30/07/2009 21:17

jj he will be riding any bike he likes as long as he can strip the engine down and rebuild it himself

jw I love BLW - what put you off? We shall be flashing the food around the room in about 9 weeks!

jj/jw loving the fig rolls over here

tee remind me to tell you about when I had my one and only false tan then the fire alarm went off!

tee St Agnes said in the village that the beacon point was half a mile, 1 mile later there was another bloody sign that said it was half a mile. Liars!!!!!

Want to hear about my holiday?

Sam slept right through until 0500 Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. We get home Wednesday and he wakes up at 0100, it's not ruddy fair!

At 0100 Wednesday morning after listening to the Sugarbabes from the Watergate Bay Holiday Parks cleaners caravan I finaly get up and tell them to turn it down. Next day no apology from them so I complained - this was their 3rd strike apparently so goodbye cleaners. I'd like to say I'm sorry but I'm not.

It rained, a lot. Our tent is still wet but we'll hopefully get it up this weekend and dry it out.

Got sunburned on the only really nice day we had dispite factor 50 suncream, fair skin is a curse!

Overall had quite a nice time although I didn't get much of a break, DP has had what he needed.

DP has been informed that if he complains about being tired at all I will stab him with a spoon until he bleeds to death on the carpet

To knackered busy to make scones today will try again tomorrow!
