claps hands mrsb what a lovely afternoon you have had discussing economics. How I wish we could swap places

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 29/07/2009 17:02

looks on forlornly I wish I could swap too. No, seriously...I need adult, non-child conversation even if it is about ...(what was it again?) cost benefit analysis......

jw good to hear that the AS and cats book has gone down a treat. I spend some time lurking on Special Needs and had such great tips and hints. Even posted a few times and everyone is uber nice! Not so on property and DIY anymore - it's been invaded by the gobby, cliquey lot from Chat threads. Shame as it was always reasonably intelligent I shall flounce away from that one and stick with us

johnworf · 29/07/2009 17:14

JJ just wait until the only things that come out of the girl's mouths are a) can I have £XX b) can I use the car? c) I've had my nipples pierced d) I've had a tattoo e) Can I go on the pill?

I've had all of the above. You'll be wishing they were toddlers when they do. Cue your OH pulling his hair out at the thought of 'some lad with nothing but sex on his mind'...raging and shouting 'I was his age once you know!' (surprise there). Expect your OH to invest in a shotgun and stand on the doorstep waving it around shouting 'get orf moi land'. I've had all these too (ok, not the last one).

It's different for boys so mrsb and tee won't be having these traumas.

Know what you mean though about adult conversation. K has done nothing but cry interchanged with screach this afternoon. I gave her straight to DH once the client had gone. Now she's all smiles and good as gold.

She's a witch that child

Tee2072 · 29/07/2009 18:02

JW Adam was cranky boy...until daddy walked in the door. BABIES!

And yes, I am so grateful he's a boy. Between seeing the girl's with their uniform skirts rolled up to there and the 'can I pierce my ears/get a tattoo/go for a date with this lovely boy named Killer who rides a harley' questions, having a girl would kill me!

mrsb economics shudder.

JJ THWAP for the Bjorn pun.

ermintrude13 · 29/07/2009 18:11

Hey but Tee, what if he IS the boy called Killer on the Harley?

jeanjeannie · 29/07/2009 18:16

PMSL@erm's comment Posted it just as I thought it!

jw both girls are like K then - because the moment DP swans in saying "how are my lovely girls" they suddently turn into 'lovely girls' Wind back 15 mins prior and it was a kicking, screaming wailing fest

It's like a wild late autumnal night out there...and i've got to go to a friend's house - couldn't feel less like it if i tried

heron22 · 29/07/2009 18:17

jj my LO is 6 months old and cant sit up properly yet without toppling over!

i am desperate for adult conversation !

mrsb so am of economics talk!

will try either beanbag or bouncing chair (will ask friend if i can borrow hers)

jw tee who knows why babies do the things they do!

Tee2072 · 29/07/2009 18:33

Well, erm then I'll send him to JW's house to meet up with K.

johnworf · 29/07/2009 19:45

LOL tee. What a couple they'd make!

Seriously though, enjoy them as LO's because as soon as they enter teenagehood (or younger if what the press say about tweenagers is correct) it all changes and all bets are off. When my boys were younger but in their teens I remember finding crockery with a lot of mould in it underneath beds. Severe lack of personal hygiene (until girls came along), and hours spent on a games console. Hopefully most of them grow out of it.

Btw, I'm not saying girls are any easier. They're a PITA in other ways (see previous post).

mrsboogie · 29/07/2009 19:48

phew, home bottle, bath, bed, just time for a cuppa and the little man is already awake and ready for up again!

I am fancying summat a bit cakey so might make a batch of chocolate muffins - doesn't count if you don't buy it in a shop...ahem.

johnworf · 29/07/2009 19:54

Cor mrsb you must be superwoman. No way would I be up for playing with K after a hard day at the coal face. She's in bed and I'll be following her in a couple of hours.

OP posts:
heron22 · 29/07/2009 20:03

jw i think i need you to remind me how lovely this age is - when they are little.
when do boys become challenging?

johnworf · 29/07/2009 20:20

If by challenging you mean wear you out heron, then I would say that boys as toddlers are little balls of energy that need lots of exercise (a bit like dogs). However, as teenagers, you'll be lucky to get them out of bed during daylight hours and even if you do they won't do an awful lot. My theory is that all their energy is expended as children Adult males have no get up and go ime.

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 29/07/2009 20:33

jw it's not as if I have any choice in the matter...I wouldn't mind if he was his usual cheery self but he is being most ehm.. challenging. Very tired and miserable but doesn't want to go to bed. Same as last night.

johnworf · 29/07/2009 20:34

Hope you have a vat of Calpol to hand mrsb

I know you don't have a choice....hard going though.

mrsboogie · 29/07/2009 22:04

I remembered the baby coke which I always forget about but every time within 15-20 minutes the mood has completely changed and he is all smiles playing happily. Dunno if its co-incidence or not I would normally be v sceptical about these type of things but it seems to work.

BonzoDoodah · 29/07/2009 22:58

Hey all - I've had a reasonably good day so haven't been able to get online. Wife of bloke at work called round with her 9 month old and THE MOST GORGEOUS chocolate cake! Light as a feather and decorated with divine icing and flakes and maltesers. YUM!! Have had a slice but saving the rest til tomorrow - my birthday (so DH doesn't have to stay up til 2am making his usual Nigella's sour cream chocolate cake).
M wasn't at nursery today and we were dreading it but she's actually been pretty good. I think seeing Mummy 1st thing makes her realise that all is well - DH has been talking her straight downstairs and I think she's been thinking I'm missing again and fretting. DH took her swimming after the visitors went and they were gone for 2 1/2 hours! Then Her friend came to play and she was an angel. Really wonderful having her in a good mood as I cried myself to sleep last night wondering what we'd done to our happy little girl (after yesterday's demonic performance).
Baby G has been good - gave me a 5 hour sleep from 2am til 7:15 this morning BLISS. But then has been worrying my boobs to bits all day. God it hurts.

jj at the price of the Eames coat hooks. When we sold my grandma's house I unscrewed all the coat hooks and took them - I have about 5 sets of the original ones. [rubs hands in ebay magnate stylee]

jw I?m reading The Time Traveller?s Wife right now ? I?m a slow reader at the mo but I love the story. I love the time travel aspect and how he's feeling about determinism. It's really well written from a scientific point of view. I'm only reading it now as my friends banned me from reading it while pregnant last time as they said a hormonal woman shouldn't read it. Don't know what they mean yet but I'm hoping I'm safe.

erm woo hoo at the film rights being renewed! Someone big has faith in you - super! Can I be in the film as something wicked?

Tee glad you found out what the bump was and it is something that is fixing itself and not something more sinister.

jeanjeannie · 30/07/2009 07:41

Morning all. I feel dreadful - throat like glass, snuffles and so tired. DP was up and gone by 6.30 - delivered me my coffee and popped Verity into bed with me as she was mithering - so maybe I'm just tired. Nice night out with my friend though.

bonzo HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! HUZZAH! sound of balloons popping and people cheering That cake sounds yummy Bless little M - I think you need to expect a bit of a change in her as she adjusts; Iris certainly did. Iris could walk - but wouldn't as soon as Verity arrived. She temporarily changed for a few months, pushing the boundaries and learning how it all fitted together. She'll be fine and probably give you a few tears along the way - they're like that!!! Have a lovely day and well done G on some good sleeping

Hope everyone else had an OK night. mrsB the thought of making muffins after a hard day's graft wouldn't even enter my head!

MIL has Iris today - phew - a bit of a rest!

Tee2072 · 30/07/2009 07:49

Morning all.

Not too bad a night, up twice but not for long and he's back asleep now, after waking up at 7 for about 2 sips of a bottle!

bonzo Happy Birthday!! Enjoy your cake.

JJ I hope you feel better later. Colds are the worst, I swear they are.

Trying to decide what to do today. I am thinking sitting around watching TV sounds like a plan.

Neddie · 30/07/2009 09:04

Hi all
Still alive but can't sit at computer for long as elephant legs really bad.
Happy B-day Bonzo.
I am having to go into hospital a lot as little boy is leaking fluid- had steroid injection yesterday and have to get another this afternoon- worrying but not drastic yet. Braxton Hicks all day long so I hope that they will hang in there till my DP comes over next Saturday.
Reading Gina Ford and Alice Beer's book on twins for some advice. Interesting.......some exactly what I would do other bits are a little regimented but I may give it a go.
Hope all well....speak soon.
Neddie XX

jeanjeannie · 30/07/2009 09:50

neddie thanks for checking in - I was about to put a call out for you!

Good to hear you've had the steroid jab - I had that with Iris. I'm sure they're keeping an eye on you for infection too. Don't go mad now - keep calm and hang on in there. Please, please, please keep us posted and thinking of you! xxx

dawntigga · 30/07/2009 10:37

mrsboogie · 30/07/2009 10:40

hullo all

hi neddie how many weeeks are you now? hope the leaking resolves itself soon.

bonzo happy birthday! am v
of the cake! hope you have a nice chilled out day.

Another rough night at ours - D wouldn't go to bed till well gone 11 and OH was grumpy and D had a restless whingy sleep. He is producing somuch saliva with the teething that he is half-choking on it some of the time which is unpleant and aking him retch. The tooth is out now though so hopefully we will soon get back to normal.

jj sounds like a cold - hope it isn't. If you are out get some of that first Defence - it worked for me recently - I ended up with only a very mild version of the cold that had OH off work for 2 days. You squirt it up your nose and it prevents the viruses from attaching to your cells.

where's jw this fine morning? lying in? hospital isn't til Friday I thought?

heron22 · 30/07/2009 10:47
