I've never had prune juice.

my weight loss stopped dead at my pre-pregnancy weight after I lost a stone and hasn't shifted for 4 weeks. i am gutted. I ate normally for a week to see if would get me out of the plateau so can't weigh myself in case I find I have put the stone back on. Have started again since yesterday.

According to the article I read on the DM website the other day (which was about new research that says that crash dieting does work) it also says that exercise counts for very little in terms of weight loss. That one pound weight is equal to 3500 calories (or is it 35,000??) and takes 7 hrs to work off!
well done jj

don't know about the anti-histamines jw as I have no experience of hayfever - I just looked at his pale sweaty face yesterday and his eyes were puffy and full of water and he is sneezing and nose running and I thought that's bloody hayfever!

How do you know if it is hayfever?

BonzoDoodah · 02/06/2009 14:16

jw I'm sure little ones can have Piraton - but best to ask at the Docs. Hope she doesn't have it - it's miserable isn't it.

jj i am going to start drinking low fat milk

FloriaTosca · 02/06/2009 14:53

Hi All!
Kept trying to post and then being kicked out and blamed first MN and then our internet provider but a new wireless modem seems to have sorted things so hopefully I'm back...hey!...stop! ...why are you all running away?

Tabitha I hope all went well yesterday and little Tab is nestled in your arms as I type.

Ermintrude fab news about the book. Congratulations.

HeronI'm glad your pendant turned up.

JJ such good news to hear about Iris. Ouch about Veritys' attack on your nip...only advice I can give (after a similar eventuality last year)is lansinoh and nipple shields...hope it recovers quickly.

Bonzo I hope your sis' dp is recovering. Your bros' ex sounds like my bros ex...it took him 2 whole years to shake her off (he should have known from the start..she already has 2 restraining orders on neighbours and a suit against being bullied in the work place court case pending when they met!)...hope she's stupidly trying it on with the pg scare. (she's not from Ashton-under-Lyne is she?)

Neddie at your 'friend'! So sad to have your generosity repaid in such a dreadful way.

JW I Hope K is better soon poor darling.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who wept when they heard of thet poor couple.

Lets pray the new modem works and this post gets through

heron22 · 02/06/2009 15:20

mrsb i think 3500 calories equates to 1 lb weight loss. so that is 500 cal deficit per day.
why is it so hard?

heron22 · 02/06/2009 15:22

floria ur not the only one who wept me too

mrsboogie · 02/06/2009 15:43

I don't know heron I have at least a 500 calorie deficit 6 days out of seven but it makes no difference.

I cried too - in fact I'm having to stop myself thinking about it or I would cry at work. It seems an extreme reaction but you can understand why they did it.

BonzoDoodah · 02/06/2009 17:11

Hey Florida glad the modem's doing its job now.
My Bro's ex (claire) is from North Manchester somewhere ... (gulp) ... sounds very similar to your bro's problems. Scary really. He always said she was intense ....

bonzo so she's from my neck of the woods then? Fab.

floria glad you got your pc sorted out.

K is seriously not liking this weather at all. I think it's going to change tomorrow - thank goodness. Might get some peace.

Wonder how Verity got on with her jabs?

hedgepig · 02/06/2009 17:38

afternoon, O is not liking the weather either JW he wants to be held all the time but then is not settled if you hold him. I took him to the Drs this morning to check he didn't have an ear infection because he keeps rubbing his head, but he was fine. I did ask the Drs is babies can get hay fever but he didn't think so, I'm not so sure the runny nose and eyes look like hay fever to me, but I'm only a plant biochemist so not really qualified on babies

I hope all the LOs are feeling better soon.

Tee2072 · 02/06/2009 17:57

Okay, so we decided to skip class so we could spread this news......

Little Tee will be born Thursday 11th June 2009 by c-section.

jeanjeannie · 02/06/2009 18:06

Hiya - just dashing in - between yelps, wails and a very ill-timed trip to the supermarket!

Verity is not happy - but I think it's mainly the weather - she just can't settle. Iris is pretty similar too - very grumpy. Stuck them both in trolley in Morrisons and it was chaos.

Now ladies - I hate to add my non-theory re exercise, but it really doesn't seem to work on a purely input over output kind of way. My MIL is a size 10 - but goes to the gym 3 times a week and swims almost everyday; if she didn't she readily admits she'd be bulky. She is 61 - looks amazing and it way fitter than me - but she say it is harder to keep off the older you get. When i walked just over a mile to work (and back) I went down to a size 8 But I weighed myself, i wasn't that much lighter - I was just remarkably leaner. There comes a point where, if you exercise it will help as it carries on over to the next day. As you get older it get so much harder to get slim without the exercise - or at least to obtain some muscle tone. I used run seriously at a club in London - back in 2005 and the difference in my body shape is unreal Memo to self - must join the Wycombe runners....if only I could be arsed to get to the club at the top of the hill

hedgepig a plant biochemist ??!! how marvellous Are you the person to advise on my failing blueberry?!!

Sorry O isn't good either...strange you say that about rubbing his ear - exactly what Verity has been doing all day. She wants to be held but then wriggles away.

floria was beginning to wonder where you'd got to. Greetings and hope the new modem holds out!

wonderwitch are you about???
tab come come, come on.....what have you got? is it a baby? a foal (oh, that's neddie) Oh you simply must tell us Hope you're all good x

johnworf · 02/06/2009 18:48

oooh tee so it's next thursday. Make the most of this weekend then. It'll be your last peaceful/restful one for a while [wink[

How exciting. New baby on the thread. yay!

johnworf · 02/06/2009 19:12

Just saw jeanies post on the old thread. She's miscarried Don't think she saw that we'd moved but she probably has a lot on her mind.

ermintrude13 · 02/06/2009 19:37

Good job you checked JW, poor Jeannie. In case she looks back in a few days, do you think somebody should leave her a msg of sympathy in case she thinks we don't care? There's only 1 slot left on the thread so I wouldn't want to jump in and do it solo...

johnworf · 02/06/2009 19:39

You go for it ermintrude. I was thinking about leaving her a message but then thought she probably won't look in on that thread again as she said in her post. I have her on my facebook friends list so I'll email her a message tomorrow

duchesse · 02/06/2009 19:44

Poor Jeanie.

Yeay! Baby Tee coming soon! Did they hazard a guess about the size of this infant?

We need to hear from tabitha- it's a little worrying to hear nothing...

Well, I have to say I feel slightly dirty this evening after earning a rather obscene amount of money doing a very last minute but not especially challenging translation. The only problem (apart from feeling dirty) is that I seem to have landed in the midst of an end-client/ intermediary tussle. It turns out that I was doing the translation because the chap who usually works for this client was otherwise engaged and had to pass it on. He is trying to muscle in on the deal, whilst the client has now asked me to invoice them directly. Am not quite sure whom to send the invoice to now. Hope it doesn't turn nasty. At least I am a fairly long way from Paris...

jeanjeannie · 02/06/2009 20:09

Oh gosh - poor jeannie thanks for letting us know jw (((hugs)))) if she sees this X Good idea Ermintrude.

tee OMG I TOTALLY missed your last post OMG...it's NEXT Thurs Look at me - I'm ridiculously excited! So - the bag is packed - but have you guys settled on a name yet??????

Duchesse all is fair in love/war AND, I think you'll find - In translation Like they say, it's a dirty job but Duchesse got to do it

Been a very tiring day - roll on cooler weather...moan, moan, moan...mutter, mutter, mutter...

Tee2072 · 02/06/2009 20:13

Huh..my post just didn't post...let's try this again...

Poor Jeannie. Do post ermintrude I don't have the previous thread marked anywhere.

duchesse weighs about 7.5 - 8 lbs at the moment! OB thinks it will be up to 9 by end of next week!!

JJ Either Adam or Zoe!

And I agree...roll on cooler weather!

ermintrude13 · 02/06/2009 20:24

Looks like duchesse has left the 1000th post on previous thread already. I'm sure jeanie would like to pick up your FB msg at some point JW, even if she's hibernating a bit for now. M/c happens to so many women and is always so horrible but important to remember that we can and do get over it.

JJ I think you're right about exercise - if you do that and keep a close eye on diet it's amazing how your body can change, but it does take time and effort, and more of both the older you are. When we moved to Nott from London, we proved our estate agent had lied to us and refused to pay his fee. We decided that rather than let this house eat up all that unexpected cash we'd buy gym membership for a year. DH and I each lost 1.5 stone, looked really fit and had to buy new smaller size clothes. Once the money ran out we didn't keep up the exercise and hey presto, we put it back on over the next 2 yrs. I find exercise so boooring though - am looking into that new research which suggests something like 4 sets of 4 mins strenuous cross-training can burn as many calories as 90 mins of steady cross-training. It's the moderation I can't stand...

Hope we hear from Tab soon and how lovely to know we'll have Tee's LO out in the wide world just next week . I would so love to join her!

mrsboogie · 02/06/2009 21:13

evening all

Oh poor jeannie I hope she will be ok.

tee hurrah we have lift off!! (nearly) how excitinnngggg!!! love the names, I reckon it will be a Zoe not an Adam .

ermintrude what's your EDD again?

Mr D had a better day today at nursery - I dressed him in a very thin Verbaudet short pyjama thing with no vest. I could see him out playing happily most of the afternoon in the little playground 2 floors below my window. Couldn't resist jumping up to have a peep every few mins

Its cooler now so hopefully they will all get some sleep tonight and be in better form tomorrow.

jeanjeannie · 02/06/2009 21:17

tee they're lovely names. Adam was one of our front runners for a boy and I don't know any little Zoes either

ermintrude I've got a small stepper that goes up and down (au naturellement!) but also side to side....it's been excellent. I find I can pop onto it and easily do 20mins and it really hits the side of the thighs. I'm not big on the cross-training...it's not hard-core enough for me on upper body - not convinced by them m'self! Ah, the gym......sighs wistfully

mrsboogie · 02/06/2009 21:24

we have a small gym at work - just your basic equipment nowt fancy but it has just been done up and is £9 a month to use. Am being shown round it on Friday afternoon with two chainsmoking colleagues.

A very unlikely trio of gym bunnies we will make

duchesse · 02/06/2009 22:08

Yes, sorry, didn't want to give her the link straight here, nor mention that we are to be found on the "pregnancy" thread as seemed a little insensitive. Particularly as two little babies are about to be born here.

johnworf · 03/06/2009 07:35

Morning ladies. Thank goodness the weather has gone cooler. K seems much happier already and slept through the night

We already have Adam as a middle name for my DS#2. Didn't have it as a first name as his uncle is already an Adam but I do like the name. Nice and unfashionable. Classic name. Similar to DS#2's first name of Richard

mrsb sounds like a fab day at the gym with the smokers ! hehe. Have a comical mental image.

I've just turned on BBC news and they're discussing MMR vaccine becoming compulsory. Very topic du jour for me as K's is coming very soon. They're proposing that mothers who don't have their children vaccinated have their benefits cut and their child cannot attend state school. Fair enough. I believe from my HV that there will be a measles outbreak due to lack of uptake some years ago. They're now having to go around primary schools to vaccinate the children who didn't have it done and their parents have changed their minds. Mammoth job I'm told. I discussed the single jabs and I'm just having the 3 in 1 after consideration.

Anyway, have the boosters to get through today first! JJ how was Verity last night after hers y'day?
