johnworf I can only think those varicose veins can be irritated by baby's position as well, as I have actually lost weight during this pregnancy (just over 5 lbs at this point) and haven't had any fluid/swelling problems at all.

Neddie · 07/05/2009 18:37

That is interesting- I didn't know that and will bear that in mind as I will hopefully have 2 of the little suckers this time. With DD1 I gave her a bottle at 7pm and boobie when she woke at 6/7am the next morning (yes I know how blessed was I with that from 7 weeks old). DD2 however slept from 7pmish till about 1 am so i did the boobie thing then (too lazy to get up)and rolled her out of the moses basket onto me for feeding. She had a faulty valve which made her sick quite a lot of the time through no fault of her own and so sometimes I felt that the churn had run dry and had to resort to formula. The combo system worked for me because I had to go back to work immediately (farming waits for no woman!)and it meant that I could get on with things some of the time but still feel I was providing some natural nutrition as well. I don't feel at all guilty for compromising. I think I might try the electric pump this time as the hand one was a bit rubbish.

heron22 · 07/05/2009 18:42

bonzo v vericose veins sounds hideous! never heard of it before. we women really put up with a LOT!!!

neddie i hired an electric breast pump from NCT and it is really good. it is double pump. like the ones used in hospitals.

are you having twins?

heron22 · 07/05/2009 18:44

neddie i agree, there is no need to feel guilty. my LO has reflux which was diagnosed at around 5 weeks. breastfeeding was a nightmare. so i pump milk all the time. but i dont have enough for him so he has 2 feeds out of 5 breastmilk. the other 3 feeds are formula.

we do what we can !

Neddie · 07/05/2009 18:55

Yay Heron we sing from the same hymn sheet! Yes I'm having twins 21 weeks today and balooning. It's kind of like the real nappy thing- I am a real eco freak in many respects and I will give them a try but if I have to put a disposable one on at night to save washing and child waking up (God those pampers are good aren't they?)then so be it and boll**cks to the environment. I don't have my heating on most of the time drive 3 miles per day and wash my clothes only when they really need it. Ohhh I'm a bit feisty tonight. Sorry.
I think it's that poor lady in America- I hope it wasn't the pressure to be a perfect mum that drove her to it.

ermintrude13 · 07/05/2009 19:41

Vulval varicose veins! I don't know whether to feel happy I don't have them (yet) or distressed that they exist and some of you ladies have suffered. Ouch!

I never understood the thing about giving babies formula top-ups. The basic theory that the more they suckle the more milk you make alway made sense, and if I'd substituted formula for any feeds I'd have been giving my boobs the message not to fill up so fast and would have produced less milk - so the mixed feeding would have had to continue . Having baby in bed with me or in the crib next to the bed, and feeding in the night without waking up properly, like a huge milk sow, is one of the things I'm really looking forward to with this LO . Mind you, I can imagine that farming hours don't allow for much lounging about in bed...

I'm a bit scared of electric pumps, although I know people who swear by them. I'm hoping to rarely need one so will just use the old Avent hand pump.

ermintrude13 · 07/05/2009 19:42

PS Neddie meant to say hurrah for having one of each! I'm always a bit freaked out by identical twins - in terms of how you should parent them, whether they should wear the same clothes, be in the same class etc. With one of each you don't have that problem. And you can have pink AND blue. Cute!

Triggles · 07/05/2009 19:48

I'd be more freaked I would mix them up and not be able to tell them apart as newborns. Terrified I'd have to bring them back to hospital to verify which one was which.

jeanjeannie · 07/05/2009 19:54

Oh the pressure to be a good mum....it is daft, isn't it?! I think i shall buck the trend....and embrace my slovenly side. Oh, I already have....ho hum

Couldn't agree more about Breastfeeding, there is SO much pressure...and much of that comes from ourselves. With Iris, by the time she'd got any latch worth talking about she was angry with not being able to get the milk out quickly enough. Subsequently my supply literally shrivelled. This time round with Verity it's been a piece of cake.....but now I want to know where the STOP button is

neddie "farming waits for no woman"....I hope it lets you at least give birth and have a cuppa

Oh I SO, SO, SO want cake. I want a coffee cake - even an el cheapo Mr Kipling and if there are walnuts on it, then all the better

mrsboogie · 07/05/2009 20:25

cake....

sigh.

johnworf · 07/05/2009 20:49

I'm with mrsb on the sighing front. I'm nursing a diet pepsi and trying not to go into the kitchen where food lurks.

DH off out galivanting with the Bridge freaks.

I think there's too much pressure on mums to do EVERYTHING...efficient, best, supermum! And that pressure, as JJ pointed out, is from ourselves mostly. Daft innit?

On the BF front (and most other things come to think about it) if you go in with a 'suck it and see' approach (pardon pun), an open mind and see what happens, then you're not setting yourself up for a fall. Or in the mums case in New York, a jump. Sorry. Very bad taste. But that's a clear example of someone who had very high expectations that came crashing down...sorry, did it again.

One of the mums on the NICU had twin girls born at 28 weeks and successfully BF both of them (expressed first then to breast when they got older). So it can be done - if you are that brave!

johnworf · 07/05/2009 20:50

triggles my sisters are identical twins. My mum used to paint nail varnish on one of their little fingers so she knew which was which

OP posts:
hedgepig · 07/05/2009 20:56

JW sounds like a great idea of you Moms that is until they got older and found the nail varnish remover ..fun and games

Triggles · 07/05/2009 21:09

johnworf sounds like a good idea! thank goodness I'm not having twins though! One at a time is plenty for me!

And may I say rats phooey and just in general grrrrrrr! My evening blood sugar has been 7.4 and 7.9 last night and tonight. I'm so annoyed. (although tbh I'm pretty sure the sweet and sour pork chinese takeaway I had tonight was not helpful to my blood sugar cause, was it?? ) Okay - tomorrow I'll be good and see what happens, and if it's still high, I'll have to call the diabetic nurse and let her know. sigh. At least the other readings during the day are fine. They wanted to know if I had same time readings consecutively high 2 or more days in a row. argh.....

johnworf · 07/05/2009 21:18

7.9 isn't that bad really triggles. It was probably the sweet and sour...I think there's a lot of sugar in Chinese food.....mmmmmmmmmm chinese food. I think if you have consistently high readings then they'll review your meds.

Just thought, this time last year I was jabbing myself with insulin too. Oh how I long for the good old days. NOT! I wonder which one of us that sprogged last year is going to be the first to get up the duff again? Clue: It won't be me

Just ordered K's NC dress from here. I'd actually bought her a lovely voile white smock dress that is beautiful but she can wear it as a normal summer dress. I'm afraid I couldn't resist the pull of a (semi) traditional dress.

Oh, mrsb I thought of you today in Next. They have some really lovely boys things in at the mo. Funky tshirts too. Would look perfect on your little heartbreaker

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 07/05/2009 21:30

Won't be me sprogging again either jw. Gah, I don't like being preggie....doesn't agree with me. The first time my joints virtually fell to pieces and the second time I thought I was going to be killed by heartburn AND I ended up wearing dungarees

Nah, 33 to 1....on the nose....each way.....that it'll be mrsB who gets up the duff again

Can't get the link to load for a shufti of the frock

Off to bed....shattered. Here's hoping for a lie-in past 4.30

Triggles · 07/05/2009 21:36

johnworf that's my concern - I'm not currently on meds and don't want to be! Shame on me for eating the chinese takeaway, I suppose! But this diabetic team is ULTRA harsh and critical and will make a big issue of it, I'm sure. (I daren't tell them I haven't switched from my regular corn flakes to their recommended Special K! )

johnworf · 07/05/2009 21:37

Link works for me but Next website has been all over the place the past couple of days.

Hope you get some decent sleep tonight JJ. Glue the girl's pj's to the sheet

Nite dear xx

Tabitha8 · 07/05/2009 22:04

JW That's a lovely dress. I wasn't going to buy one for Little Tab, but you've got me thinking now. Hmm. I wish we had one in the family, but we don't.

mrsboogie · 07/05/2009 22:15

triggles when I was diagnosed with GD one of the nurses told me that Chinese takeaway was one of the worst foods for blood sugar. She said "I think its the oils they use" which makes no sense whatsoever but I suppose she had anecdotal evidence.

jw waiting for Next to upload - taking ages.

/steadfastly ignores mentions of me getting pg again...

johnworf · 07/05/2009 22:23

I think you'll be THE ONE mrsb. You've got another baby written all over you

Next website is pants of late.

I wasn't going to bother either tabitha but couldn't restrain myself. Btw, don't look on the Monsoon website at the gowns/dresses..they're adorable. However, I wasn't prepared to part with £50+.

There's a tube of Smarties in the fridge and I'm trying to not think about them. Instead I'm thinking about how lovely I'll look on K's NC photo's in my lovely new outfit...PMA

Tee2072 · 08/05/2009 07:46

Good morning all!

triggles 7.9 isn't so bad. My diabetic team is happy if I am under 8 before bed. Of course, I shoot up 4 times a day already!

I will also vote for mrsb for the next LO. Based on the way I feel? It will never be me again. Nothing wrong with an only child.

DH is still a bit disappointed that we're not having twins.

5th to last day at work.

jeanjeannie · 08/05/2009 08:19

Morning all. Just off to do the nursey run but need to find a wheelbarrow to carry the bags under my eyes Have NO idea how I'm going to stay awake at a blinkin hen 'do' until midnight.

jw hope you resisted the smarties. I did NOT resist the toblerone that FIL bought round OK, I didn't eat it all......but I failed in the face of temptation.

Right - off to the shops later to see if I can find anything cheap and chearful for this posh restaurant/bar tonight. All my dresses are a size 10 and that's not going to happen in the next 10 hours

tee YEE HAA for the 5th to last day

Wonderwitch · 08/05/2009 08:33

Good Morning All xxx

Im Lmao@ the.. who will br the first to get up the duff again lol

johnworf I have just looked at ur profile, that pic is just soo sweet awwww ( teary eyed AGAIN) lol
My Patrner's 11 yrs old son is Autistic so I know what you mean about can be challenging, I also work with adults with learning disabilities, so sometimes it feels like I haven't left work, but, I adore it.
We haven't told his son yet but we have sort of dropped hints over time slowly, hoping it wont be too much of an ordeal for him, its just finding the right wording and the right time, we just don't know how he will react. Time will tell eh???

How did you find it starting all over again? I'm excited but also anxious too.

Glue the girl's pj's to the sheet bloody brilliant must remember that one lmao

whoever started the V varicose veins thanks for that thought, goes down sooo well with nausea [throwing up smiley] lol

last bit... I would so love to have twins always have wanted them since I was very young, now I will probably regret saying that if they find twins or more when I go for 12 week scan lol unlikely seeings I have had an early scan but u never know!!!!! lol

Have a good day all xxxXxxx

johnworf · 08/05/2009 09:01

Morning all.

wonderwitch you've just reminded me to change the profile pic today as it's way out of date! She's bigger and I'm smaller

I'm off in an hour for K's 8 month hearing test. She's targetted as she was on SCBU (automatic 8 month targetting). There's nowt wrong with her hearing, of that I'm convinced.

DSS isn't so bad with the AS. It's just a case of getting used to his obsessions and more importantly, setting routines.

We're all off swimming tomorrow to the Aquatics Centre. First time for K so we'll see how it goes.

JJ good luck on your quest for clothes. Next have some nice stuff in at the mo and isn't too pricey (when you get down to your size 10's ) Sorry to hear that you feel so poo I take it nocturnal fun and games were had by all - apart from you?

tee nothing wrong with an only child. A lot of my friends have just the one and are happy with things as they are. JJ's an only child so I'm sure she'll agree
