Not a word, ermintrude. School year officially ends 30th June. Maybe we'll know something then....

mrsboogie · 26/05/2009 17:54

Well, I think we know the reason for the week long runny bottoms. D was making a new grinding sound this morning - took a quick gander into his gob and there are two new top front teeth just broken through. ermintrude wins the prize!

he was also rather whingy earlier so I gave him of that baby coke and blimey he didn't half chill out after it.

managed to get through a whole tube of metamian this week - bought a new one and some other stuff in boots and managed to lose it out of the basket under the buggy! grrrrr..

right, that's the end of all the arse and teeth talk from me.

Tee2072 · 26/05/2009 18:02

At least you have a reason now mrsb! And two tooths!!!

Oh I so overdid it today, but I got so much done. Baby's room is about 99% ready! And now we have to head out to hospital for antenatal class! I would so skip it but we are (hopefully) getting out tour tonight.

It was suppose to be last week, but they cancelled it. I think because of these guys!! Yes, I am going to be in the same hospital! They weren't born until Friday, but rumours have mum and dad at the hospital from at least Monday.

mrsboogie · 26/05/2009 18:07

I bet it was all hands on deck for that little lot tee . I wouldn't have wanted to be in there waiting for an induction or c/s at the same time as them.

johnworf · 26/05/2009 18:14

Oh I read about those 6 babies. I bet their NICU is full now. Glad I'm not having a premmie around Belfast.

mrsb at least you now know why his lordship was fed up. Two big gnashers eh? Fab.

floria just saw your message. Many apols. For some reason it completely slipped my mind. I think it was because of all the weekend hoo hah. Darn it. Can we reschedule for next week? We'll sort out on FB or I'll text you?

Loads of chat on here to catch up with but alas, not at the present moment for moi as The Boss is screaming her bloody head off

Laters.

Wow - Iris ate a whole portion of lasagne, and carrots on the side....I'm in shock First time in a year!!! Very chuffed. Oh and Verity is mastering the art of the bum shuffle - she's got as far as the telly and is making her way over to the window.....very odd-looking....very amusing

neddie Awwwwww...too cute and a great name! Have a nice time at the scan. Good luck with the job search...if he has transferable skills then you may well be in luck. FIngers crossed. And for you too tee gosh - I find in this economic climate it is hard to believe that work can be so slack about letting people know what the heck is going on

Have a lovely tour tonight though and yes, it must be a very busy hospital ATM.

mrsB teeth...it's teething, well at least you know now. Blimey, it's amazing what horrors it inflicts Hope you're soon going to be looking at a much happier chappie

Off to try and put the girls to bed although i think it's going to be futile...!

Tabitha8 · 26/05/2009 19:49

Neddie A beautiful foal. They are all so cute. We have little lambs next door to us. The mummy sheep all seem to give birth without any fuss at all.

Jeannie5194 · 26/05/2009 20:25

Evening all.

Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. DP dragged me round Jonh Lewis's baby department to look at prams yesterday(despite the huge 10 year old baby carriage I still have languishing in the spare room!)

And I came downstairs this morning to find my 10 year old crying and the first words out of his mouth were "Mum, are you having a baby? Please don't..." Apparently he had wandered into the spare room too ( a room he never usually ventures near) and spied his baby car seat out of its plastic for the first time in almost a decade.

I was lost for words but just side stepped the question (want to wait til after 13 weeks to tell him) and gave him lots of reassurance about how much I love him and how important he is to me etc. Any tips on how to deal with telling him when the time comes?

First midwife visit on Thursday afternoon - just filled in the questionnare - don't seem to recall so many questions about potential drug habits and abusive partners last time round. A sign of the times I guess - sigh

johnworf · 26/05/2009 20:47

JJ bloody marvellous! Iris done good eh? Probably gave her an appetite being frightened to death by a clown Meant to comment on that incident in previous post. I would have smacked the stupid bint personally.

jeannie I think your DS will come round once you tell him but sounds like you'll get a few tears first. Anyway, not a lot you can do now as you don't get refunds ! My lot were a bit stunned but they're older than your DS. Once they see it when it's born, then things are different It's hard to imagine for him what it would be like having a baby around the house. And not forgetting that his life will change too. Good that you were gentle on him...poor little love.

I never filled in any questionnaires about abusive partners or drugs, only the ones that ask how many fags you smoke or units of alcohol you drink. Mind you, hospital I went to for my antenatal appointments is smack bang in the middle of a really rough bit of Manchester. Mebbe they take it as red that all the women there take drugs and get beaten

Ok, bad mother time. Not bought anything for K's b'day and it's in 2 days time. Can't think what to get her apart from a big box and something to whack it with. Any ideas?

Thinking that K will miss her jabs tomorrow as her nose is streaming and she's fractious. Will ring and see.

Where is hedgepig hiding?

mrsb so glad the sore bum turned out to be teeth. Which reads oddly but you know what I mean.

Tee When times get tough in the next few months I think I'll try to think of that woman having 6 at once and count my blessings - only having one screaming waking pooing teething baby to deal with at a time.

JJ Good news that Iris likes Italian cooking. Sounds like she'll be troughing spaghetti meatballs in no time

Jeannie aw, poor little fellow. My DD was 10 when we broke The News and she was thrilled from the off - having a 6 yr old bro probably helped. But he has expressed the odd little doubt and anxiety over the months, so I tell him things like he'll always be my baby (to which he objects, but he likes it really ) and that the reason we wanted to have another one was because we love having him and his sis so much, and because I'd have loved to have a big bro like him etc. Doesn't take much to make him skip off quite happily, and the rest of the time he's very positive. He also has just about free access to The Bump and loves feeling the baby move - even kisses it goodbye and hello at school times. I'm sure your DS will get used to the idea.

JW we didn't buy anything much for DC's bds until they got to an age they'd notice. I have a big family all of whom are v generous, and it seemed daft for us to spend money we could ill afford on even more stuff the DC didn't need. Even now my mum spends far more on them than we do . And long may that continue

jeanjeannie · 26/05/2009 21:49

Aww, jeannie I'm sure he'll come round. No pearls of wisdom I'm afraid - as with only 17mth between my two, Iris was way too young to even notice! Yes, I got asked strange questions about abuse got asked them all again at Verity's 8mth check...which I didn't get asked the previous year with Iris. Mmmm, me thinks it smacks of SS gone mad!

ermintrude I too say YAY! for folks buying stuff for the kids...so allowing mummy here far more spare cash to spend on shoes

jw well, we've only just decided what to get Verity....as we weren't going to bother and then thought about the photos....how would we explain all the pressies for Iris and nowt for her We're getting a little piano thing, a small hand-held bubble machine and some stacking cups. Not loads but she got a walker for Xmas....may re-wrap that as she's only just decided to move about

Verity is asleep on DP upstairs...her teeth are really giving her trouble...and DP has nodded off...awww, they look so sweet. Gosh, SIX babies....dear me...would you ever sleep again?

Tee2072 · 26/05/2009 21:59

Finally had the tour of the delivery suite. Too bad nothing they spoke about had anything to do with me, since its 99% sure I'm having the scheduled CS. Very nice delivery suite, though.

Yeah, 6 babies...YIKES!

jeannie no words of wisdom from me either, I'm afraid. This is my first baby!

JJ ha on the re-wrapping. Go on, she'll never notice!

And with that, I think I am off to bed!

Night all.

mrsboogie · 26/05/2009 22:29

tee I hope you took note of the internet facilities while you were there - we will be requiring a prompt announcement of the new arrival!

Tee2072 · 27/05/2009 07:55

Good morning!

mrsb there are none! No Wifi or patient available internet at all at this hospital!

johnworf · 27/05/2009 07:55

Blimey, MN server offline for maintenance. Maybe it'll work now without me having to bang the side of my laptop

Rains back again here. Knew it wouldn't be long

Ah bubbles sound good. Very entertaining too for little ones until they decide to drink the solution (yes, been there, done that one). May have a trip out today and have a mooch. Not too worried though if don't find anything. Don't forget, K is developmentally 8 months old and not a year yet so she's really not that fussed. Talking of which......

....it's jabs day and I think I'll be taking a raincheck. Her nose is still running and she's coughing so will leave it until the cold has gone. Tomorrow is 8 month check up day and the HV is coming in the morning. I may as well not bother as I know she'll fail it. Mind you, she's brilliant at rolling now and does it all the time Shame she shows no inclination of sitting and instead, pushing herself backwards.

tee glad that the delivery suite was to your liking. Did they polish the iron maiden and the rack especially for your tour?

JJ poor Verity. Hope that those little pegs poke through soon and give her some peace. Soon be chomping on everything then.

OP posts:
johnworf · 27/05/2009 07:57

tee you'll have to nominate someone to log in on MN to announce it. Get your DH to do it Or send a tweet from your phone and someone on there can announce it for you.

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 27/05/2009 08:07

JW no iron maiden or rack, but there was a judas-cradle...

Oh and DH will be given a list of logins and passwords to spread the word!!

jeanjeannie · 27/05/2009 08:49

Morning all. Back to horrid nights again. Verity wailing, some loon whistling a tuneless song outside the window and the cat hurling up a furball (loudly) in the bedroom WAH! AND it's raining Oooooo, I'm seething!

jw I always leave the jabs if there is snot. And I'm dubious about the 8mth check....I'm dubious about all this charting, ticking etc. We all wonder why kids/parents are under increasing pressure - it's as though we can't put our finger on it. I mean, we've apparently got the best health system ever, we've apparently got affluent lifestyles and we've apparently got children who leave school with fantastic results. So how come we're all stressed and constantly feel under scrutiny...MMMMMmmmmm, maybe it starts the moment they're born I think we're no longer allowed to be trusted with our instincts if we feel that's right for us. The lowest common denomenators in the pack have meant measures for them have spread to us all and common sense and gut feelings are worng And well done K - Verity doesn't even think to roll over

Moan over. Just that I feel I've been stuck in a system with Iris since she was born and it is very tiring. If only we all felt confident enough with education at the present then I think we may all relax a little.

So - another day in then. School hols, so no activities and soft play will be full of scary 6 yr olds with pierced ears!!

Where is hedgepig? Oh she may be trapped by the hols!

tee Bless your DH - I've have visions of him, all over-excited about being a new Dad and getting stuck on MN with us lot

iris66 · 27/05/2009 08:50

morning all - blimey! so much to catch up on and so little time

tee glad the tour went well. It's comforting knowing where you'll be isn't it . I'm amazed there's no internet access at the hospital though Definately get DH to tell us as soon as he's caught his breath - if not sooner!

neddie lovely pics and good luck with the job hunt for DP.

wonderwich - I sent you a message on FB re a body pillow (if you want it!)- it may help the discomfort.

Tabitha - are you still with us? [watching with a beady eye emoticon]

Rainy and miserable here too. DH pootled off to Lincolnshire at 5.30 this morning and I fell back to sleep dreaming that my freezer door had been left open and it had frozen the inside of the house, it had been snowing really heavily outside, and there was a bear roaming the house that kept trying to chew my arm every time I steered it out!! (wierd)
I'm not going to be venturing far today that's for sure.

hedgepig · 27/05/2009 12:16

morning all, I'm back. (JW thanks for the FB message, all is OK we went away at the weekend at the last min and I'm trying to juggle the demands of B & O as it's 1/2 term)

Tee I wouldn't worry too much about no internet in the hospital, there was some in mine but I never could get it to work anyway. Cripes six babies that would be a handful.

well done MrD on the teeth, still none here.

Do you think it is OK for a baby to watch Mario Karts, the game his brother is playing? My standards have slipped between children B did not watch any TV except baby Einstein videos when he was a baby and poor little O is sat watching Mario

johnworf · 27/05/2009 15:06

hedgepig glad all is well. We do panic on here you know if you don't check in or go awol

All I can say is welcome to the bad mother's club I'm chairman, JJ is president, and we're looking for a secretary so you're it! I really wouldn't worry about him watching Mario as long as he's not parked there for hours. I think 10 mins in front of the telly isn't going to damage any child. I often put K in her Galt ring with toys and sat in front of Ballamory while I try and fold the washing or nip to the loo. I'm sure social services would forgive me.

Talking of bad mothers, here's an article I saw on DM.

Just got back and bought K a bath toy for her b'day. It won't be a surprise as she's half chewed the box going around the shop Not sure that LO's know what a surprise is anyway............oh and ordered her a new fisher price bath. The one we have on the stand is getting too small for her now so got her a toddler one. Go and pick it up tomorrow. So, she's having a bath for her b'day! And rightly so.

Men with freezer due to arrive anytime now and so far DH still hasn't sorted out the utility room to make space for it I left explicit instructions before I left the house. Ah well, I'm not helping. This one is his baby

OP posts:
iris66 · 27/05/2009 15:34

jw - good DM article . I always find it refreshing to see threads on here that descend into a sort of competetive bad parenting theme - which then begs the question are we merely a generation of competetive mothers full stop?

I've done virtually nothing today DS2 tried feeding himself his lunch through every facial orifice except his mouth but at least everything was too big to go into his ears!! I've had really niggly BHs all day too so I'm going try to have a sit down for a while and plug the boys into Waybuloo, to which I'm becoming strangely attached

johnworf · 27/05/2009 15:37

Dare I ask what waybuloo is?

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 27/05/2009 15:45

JW Ooo, yes, President....I like it....I want a mayor-like chain of office Just read that article...am PMSL....especially at the bit about "a good mother doesn't hide the paints" Hahahah, I've just had to do that....had to hide them away because Iris has unfortunately painted our white walls purple. I was making a cuppa and came back to find about 2 foot of wall covered in a Jackson Pollock-inspired doodle According to DP it'll wipe off

Good to hear that K isn't sans pressie. Actually we're in dire need of bath toys but I fear Iris would just take over - she IS the ruler of the bath and all those who float in it

Off to clear up the mess and attempt some aptly titled dinner... breaded pollock anyone?

jeanjeannie · 27/05/2009 15:53

Oh Waybuloo - it's a new Cbeebies prog and it is odd - but it's growing on me too It has a Japanese feel about it - Verity particularly likes it! I try and zone out if CBeebies is on unlike DP who gets right into it all. His fave is Nuzzle and Scratch "we're alpacas from the Andies with hooves instead of handies" Ah yes, they're the Peruvian animal equivalent of the Chuckle Brothers....and DP is a BIG fan of theirs
