Gingermummi Welcome back...I know how horrid it is to go through m/c (I had 6 of them...due to a genetic translocation and a blood condition I hasten to add, nothing to do with age)but had my first at 43 and would at the drop of a hat go for it again if only dh would agree. As the others have said, if you are healthy and there is no danger to you and you are willing to either accept or do something about the increased risk of genetic anomalies then I would definately say go for it.....
...just a passing thought; a pal of mine had a disabled daughter at 35 (microcephalus.. she sadly passed away aged 12) but had a perfectly normal son at 48 and is trying for another now at 50.

Tabitha8 · 22/05/2009 14:03

Wonderwitch Have you been to your local council to discuss housing benefit for rent and council tax payments?
Ginger I'm 43 and due to have my first baby in less than two weeks!

gingermumi · 22/05/2009 16:56

wow, lots of positive messages! A baby at 48 thats fab!

mrsboogie · 22/05/2009 19:44

evening all

Have been rushing round all day so no time to post. Day off work but haven't stopped. Mr D does an exploding poo after every bottle or meal so am thinking he has a bug. Thought it was a milk protein thing first but even a banana had the same effect.

wonderwitch I am so sorry to hear of your troubles. What a nightmare. I hope you find out what help is available soon and get sorted.

gingermummi welcome back! you're only 43 - loads of women have babies at that age and yes there maybe a few additional risks but there's not much evidence of it on this thread! With all due respect to your mum and sister its not really their business! So long as you can accept those risks you should go right ahead.

tee I ordered one of these handy for attaching to buggies and a bargain. D goes mad when the sun gets in his eyes when we are out and about.

ermintrude13 · 22/05/2009 19:55

hello gingermumi, I'm 42 and expecting DC3 in just under 4 wks (yikes). Also have a DD (11) and DS (6). It took me longer to conceive this time around than my previous pregnancies but that was due to endometrisis and as soon as I had that treated it took about 3 months. If you decide to go for it, just practice A LOT and don't get too anxious about specific dates because stress is no help at all.

hedgepig · 22/05/2009 20:11

evening all (do I sound like Dixon of Dock Green?)

Wonderwitch how C* is all I can say. I hope you can sort something out. We have bailed the blooming banks out for so much but the little people just end up having to deal with it themselves, it is just so unfair.

Gingermumi If you want to keep trying go for it and have some fun and I agree with MrsB it is nobody business but yours and DHs.

Fun day here, another teacher training day so DS1 was at home and had a little friend over to play which all went rather well, no fallings out or anything like that.

jeanjeannie · 22/05/2009 20:17

Evening all.

gingermummi I second all the positive comments on here...Oh, and welcome back BTW! I just think that the more practise you get - the better! Don't be fooled into thinking about your 'fertile' time; I diligently kept a calendar so as not to get preggie as I'd only know DP a few months...OOoooo and what do you know? Hahahah yep, conceived both times (40 and 41) on my 'safe' dates I walked around with the stick and its blue line saying "I can't think how this happened?!"

mrsB that does sound like a bug At least all is in good working order - he's clearly getting rid of it...and everything else!

DP now has a mouth full of red spots and swellings. Went to the chemist and she said it's bacterial...so it's anti-bs for us next week

DP is cooking dinner Second time this week

Where is JW ??? "Hello dear...and you alright? Are you swamped under boxes with bows and all things non-christening???"

hedgepig · 22/05/2009 20:51

no snogging in the JJ household tonight then!

DH cooked Bs tea tonight too (well put the pizza in the oven which is almost cooking)

iris66 · 22/05/2009 20:54

Hi all - no time to post as had klingon DS2 attched to me nearly all day (apart from the visit to an accident repair place to get a quote on my bumper) my childseat (aka bump) is particularly sore tonight as a result.
I did manage to order my frock though. I went for the full length black on in the end as the do is apparently a full on formal one. DH couldn't get into his jacket (according to him it's shrunk ) so more expense there too. I almost wish we weren't going! On the up side though my mum's coming up to babysit and my (not so) little brother is going to visit that weekend too which will be a) useful help for my mum (I was a bit worried about whether she'd be able to cope with the two as she has a bad knee)and b) he's going to cook her a lovely meal (he's a fab cook) which will be a real treat for her

mrsb am with you in spirit on the sickly child front - pants isn't it. I had to call the Dr earlier as DS2 wouldn't even drink water. He suggested flat sports drinks. Thankfully it worked and he had about 300ml in the end. He hasn't really eaten for 4 days and I was getting really worried when he went on fluid strike too. I just hope he and D are over the worst now

Gingermumi hi I've become pg 3 times by not trying! (I'm 42 and expecting No.4 - No.1 is 20, then 3yr old & 19mth old)

wonderwitch - no wonder you're stressed!!! You poor thing . I hope you manage to get some good advice from CAB. Do stay posting (library internet is free )as we're all here for you if you need us. Take care

jeanjeannie - I'm really pleased for you that Iris is all ok

Tee - brilliant news about cowworker - that must be a weight off your mind even though you're on mat leave! - fab!

johnworf · 22/05/2009 20:55

Appears. As if by magic.........

hullo all. Nowt to report. Just been running around all day like mad person and inbetween, ordering DH to do things around the house. You'd think the queen was coming for tea.

Anyhoo, patio finished and new furniture assembled outside in the rain! Huzzah! Actually, Beeb weatherman has promised me, 100% sunshine for Sunday OOOOh.

gingermummi don't believe the hype that us oldies have shrivelled up walnuts as eggs. I conceived, quite unexpectedly, aged 40 but had a MC and went on to conceive again at 41 having K when I was (almost) 42.

JJ how on earth did you get spots in your mouth and then pass them on to OH? Sounds very painful and unpleasant. Love the line

I walked around with the stick and its blue line saying "I can't think how this happened?!" Do you mean that you don't know yet? Would you like me to draw you a diagram?!

mrsb hope that D is ok after his exploding bum phase. Not pleasant for the poor little man. At least he's still taking food and milk so he shouldn't lose much.

Am slightly worried that food is arriving tomorrow afternoon whilst I am having my mani/pedi and DH will be left to organise it into the fridge I have visions of the dog having a very nice time with all that drops on the floor. i.e. most of it. Ah well, a quick wipe and what they don't know won't hurt them.

Having a nice relaxing evening tonight and off to bed for an early night. Am expecting to be up early tomorrow as more things to do and......my Anya Hindmarch bag is coming. But shhhhhhhhhhhhh I haven't told DH about this one. I'll quietly put it at the back of the wardrobe and say 'oh this old thing' if he asks A plan.

just realised how liberal I am with emoticons - is it a reflection of how much I use my hands when I talk I wonder

hedgepig · 22/05/2009 21:35

Iris I love a few smileys they brighten up the page I think they should do a scoffing chocolate one too

Tee2072 · 22/05/2009 21:48

Oh, sheesh, why do they not warn you about BH contractions? Just so uncomfortable.

Baby's been really quiet today too, but every time I start to fret it kicks me. Horrid child.

JW tell DH that any that falls on the floor, he's got to clean up and make it look okay for your guests.

iris I like smilies too!

JJ I can help JW with the explanation, if you'd like.

mrsboogie · 22/05/2009 22:12

I never had a single BH in either pregnancy

lazy uterus I reckon - prob why my labours took forever

tee did you see my link to the parasol?

Tee2072 · 23/05/2009 07:02

Good morning.

Bad night, now up at 7 so I can eat and be at hairdresser at 9. Ugh.

mrsb somehow I missed the link completely! That is a great idea. But I am not so sure about the colour. Personally, I love black, in fact my buggy is black, but a black parasol? Aren't they suppose to be pink? I will bookmark the site. I think I've spent enough money this week on baby.

johnworf · 23/05/2009 07:03

Morning ladies. How are we all today?

I'm up before even baby this morning but I've got a fuzzbox to do list, and I'm gonna use it

The weatherman has promised good weather starting today but methinks he's joshing as it's grey and overcast. Again.

mrsb can't believe you've never had a BH. Maybe you just didn't notice them? You'll have to pay more attention next time around

JJ sounds really nasty that lurgy you and your OH have got. Are you both at the docs next week for some sheep dip? Have you any idea how it got there?

Brilliant that another tick for Iris I was telling DH y'day about the suspected AS and he reckons it's very uncommon in girls. I'm not so sure. I think it's either misdiagnosed or not picked up in girls.

So next week brings jabs on Wednesday and the 8 month check up on thursday (her b'day). I said to HV it would be day after jabs but she's coming anyway. Think unfair myself as most LO's are off within the following 24 hours of jabs. I know she'll fail as she isn't sitting on her own yet but I'm not worried and if the HV starts and song and dance about it then I shall have to show her to the door. Otherwise, I know that K is doing fabulously for one born so early

tee any more news on the induction/CS?

I think anytime from 37 weeks is possible so both yourself and ermintrude better have those towels and hot water at the ready!

johnworf · 23/05/2009 07:08

tee sounds like a crappy night to me. We're both up with the lark, although not always by choice.

Have a nice time at the hairdressers though. Always cheers me up. I'm there tomorrow at 9am myself. Today is manicure day

Funnily enough I have a UV shade for my pram that is black. Mine goes all the way over the pram though, a bit like a cat net, and reminds me of a burka for a buggy.

I had a look at those Leebruss Take Off pushchairs that were on The Apprentice last week. They were selling them for around £100 and the cheapest I can find is £140

Morning All xx

Thanks for all your well wishes you are such a lovely bunch

I got the phone put back on yest, not sure how long it will be for though

I tried all day to get through to CAB with no luck, so infuriating and you have to pay 5p per min for the privilege as it goes through to answer phone everytime
Will probably go and camp outside on tues to see them, then again it would probably be easier and quicker just to go straight to council and benefits place. SO helpful these places!!

My heads just all over the place, cant think straight but at least I slept last night, slept from 9.30pm until 5am which is a good long sleep for me at the moment. only been gettin at the most 4 hrs for ages now.

once again thank u all

xx huge hugs xx

Wonderwitch · 23/05/2009 07:25

Ooops.. I know what I was going to ask and getting away from my other probs for a bit...

Anyone have any good ideas of what to do with my boobs when I am trying to sleep?? they are so painful and as i have gone from a B cup to DD it feels like i just want to take them off at night!! i have tried every position possible, iv tried wearing a bra, tops etc nothing is helping

I naturally sleep on my side but lean over so sort of more on my front, and these pesky boobs are so in the way.

any ideas anyone???

iris66 · 23/05/2009 08:07

morning all

wonderwitch - I'm so pleased tht you sound a little more positive. Sleep makes such a difference doesn't it. Have you tried lying on your side to sleep and wedging a pillow between your boobs? (it's the only thing that works for me - oh, and wearing a bra to bed!)

DS1 wants bum wiping... back later

jeanjeannie · 23/05/2009 09:19

Morning all.

We're all off to A&E Well, the out of hours doc bit....we're in agony Not sure if we'll be in time for the wedding...may have to miss the 'I do' bit....but it's hardly a cliffhanger is it? I mean we know they're both gonna say 'YES!'

wonderwitch good to hear you've got a bit of a plan....it's always better to feel as though you're doing something. And although no consolation now...people have come back from horrendous events to have happy, successful lives once again...just keep focusing on getting out of the hole one step at a time. FWIW I was made redundant SEVEN times in five years, all while having a big mortgage hanging around my neck...and on my own so I have a teeny insight into the stress you're all under ((((hugs)))) NOw, onto practical matters...huge norks and what to do with them. Yep, I put a soft pillow (not too large) to the side I slept on, so it sort of cushioned the impact. Not ideal but by the 2nd trimester it calmed down x

tee sorry you didn't sleep. T'wasn't much fun here either...so hope the hair appointment makes up for it...a bit of pampering.

jw we got out jabs through for Verity - 2nd June. Oh lordy, got no idea what pressie to get Verity...what are you getting K?

OK....we're off....if I get chance I'll let you know what lurgy we have. Enjoy the sun if you've got it....we're flooded with it here in Bucks Oh and an extra one for hedgepig, cos she likes them x

johnworf · 23/05/2009 09:54

wonderwitch glad that you're feeling a little bit more positive about things I'll second the pillow on the side too. I remember mine feeling so tender it almost hurt to cough They do calm down though after the 12 week mark.

JJ you're having a right old time of it aren't you dear? Hopefully the walk in clinic will sort you out with some anti-b's and you'll be shoving your sunday best on this afternoon for some vol au vents Can't think what red spot in the mouth could be. I know that thrush is white and frothy so it's not that.

No idea what we're getting K tbh. She's got pretty much everything I need for her and it's been hard when people ask what to get her for both NC and her b'day. I've asked others for money for her child trust fund or John Lewis vouchers. From us, I'm thinking I'll get her something very cheap but with a great box and wrapping paper. She'll love tearing it up She's happy with her wooden spoon banging it on the table...how can I beat that?!

Let us know how you get on with the quack. xxx

morning all

wonderwitch great to see you are more positive today. and that you had a good sleep makes all the differece

jw i agree that most kids love simple toys that are for free! for eg DS1 loves twigs and sticks he finds in the gardens and he runs with them pretending to be slaying dragons!

for 2 mornings now, LO been waking up crying at around 6.30am. he had never done this, he normally wakes by himself around 7am and happily cooing. he is a very big baby and i think that he needs more food. he is only 18 1/2 weeks old so really want to put off weaning for as long as possible. saw the GP yesterday and she said that as long as there is no food allergies in the family, with a big baby there is no need to wait till 6 months for weaning. she said with all her 3 kids, they were big babies and needed solids before 6 months.

opinions ladies?

heron22 · 23/05/2009 10:34

anyone fed their babies HIPP organic good night milk?

mrsboogie · 23/05/2009 11:19

morning all

heron I got that Hipp milk for D when he was around the same age and seemed not to be getting enough milk in - he absolutely refused to drink it. Its quite thick and I'm not sure whether it was coming out of the teat properly - but he didn't like it at all. No harm in trying it I reckon. The docs advice about not waiting 'til 26 weeks? well solids don't seem to make much of a difference to their sleeping patterns - certainly hasn't for D. They get more calories from milk anyway so a few spoonfuls of purée or some fingerfood won't make much of a difference. I waited until 25ish weeks with D.

jj that sounds horrendous - I hope its not something the girls can catch. Hope you get something to make it better from the docs.

jw enjoy your pampering today!

wonderwitch have you had a look on that benefits website that tells you what you are entitled to?

tee my OH was turning up his nose at the parasol as it was (think he thinks it looks silly) so black would be the only colour I would get away with - he does all the wheeling of the buggy y'see.

oh toys
I love the tambourine and maracas and will be getting for D. I don't understand how they could be age 3+!
