I'm looking for something like this but I'm only 5ft 3" (just) so full length is usually trailing on the floor - even with heels

johnworf · 20/05/2009 10:00

iris Mamas & Papas website have ££££££'s off their maternity clothing at the mo. some real bargain. However, if nothing posh enough on there, then 25% discount code for Isabella Oliver (DRESSES).

K is now up and chatting away as if to say 'last night? what you talking about woman? nothing happened last night...now be off with you and fetch me some breakfast'.

JJ you sound like you've had a similar night to me. Poor Iris and her teeth

So your OH is like DSS! lol. Oh great. Does he keep asking you what time such a thing will happen/come/end/start?

We've decided to have the patio extended to all the way around the side of the house - where the wheely bins live. Continuity seems logical. More £££ of course but DH has sanctioned it so nothing to do with me spending

Must go and sort out K. She has a chandelier hanging from one of her nostrils....bleugh

Tee I'm very that you're likely to see your LO before I get to see mine. I'll prob still be waddling about at 42 weeks begging random passers-by for donations of pineapple and semen . Have a great pampering day.

I love maynonnaise at any time and last night ate quite a lot of baby new potatoes dipped in sea-salt and slathered in the stuff. Put some on my salmon too, and barely resisted dipping asparagus and sugarsnaps in it . But I'm with you on the ciggie smoke JW, I never like it anyway but it really turns my stomach at the moment.

That baby girl's highlights look pretty subtle on the photo - as JJ says it will prob fall out and be replaced soon. Other tabloid news although of course I got it from the BBC website - I hear that 12 yr old Alfie is not the father of that girl's baby. Surprise surprise - not. It's some 15 yr old lad which makes it marginally better. I think

iris apart from the usual Isabella Oliver, Serafine, Crave, Blooming Marvellous sites etc. I can only think of trying Debenhams - I got a great winter dress from their Red Herring label earlier this year and they are also cheap! Or H&M maternity had some summer stuff in - I didn't look closely enough to see if there was anything posh enough for a wedding, but worth a try?

Sorry to hear of so much sleep deprivation. I know you're all far too nice to think of it as consolation, but pretty soon I'll be joining you...

Tee2072 · 20/05/2009 11:53

Back now. Had a fab 2 hours being plucked waxed rubbed and polished! My eyebrows especially have never looked so good. Definitely worth every penny I spent.

Also sorry for all the sleep deprivation. Soon enough both ermintrude and I will be right there with you!

heron22 · 20/05/2009 12:03

morning all! how is everyone? how are you tee? 24 more days! wow! i had gestational diabetes and had a planned section at 38 weeks. it went very well. and recovery was really good.

iris66 · 20/05/2009 12:16

jw & ermintrude thanks for the tips even DH has been tapping away on his laptop looking at maternity sites for me (bless) what do you think of this or this
I'm not exactly sure how "black tie" it is yet

heron / Tee - why as CS for GD and not induction?

Tee am of your pampering but glad you're having a bit of a chill out at last! hope you have a relaxing afternoon.

going to bung DS2 in the car and hope he sleeps whilst we do a quick recce of M&S (and I book my blue rinse )

heron22 · 20/05/2009 12:21

anyone else keep getting problems with this website? it either hangs or i get some kind of error that i have to log on again and my post is lost.

johnworf · 20/05/2009 12:36

iris love both of the dresses. Prefer the blue one though as I'd take silk over jersey anyday! I find jersey can be a bit clingy when really you want to skim all those lovely curves

Glad you had a fab time tee. I love having neat eyebrows. Mine look like little badgers burrowing into my forehead at the mo.

iris I had to pretty much beg at the clinic for an elective CS and I had GD from 16 weeks. In the end they relented but only because my previously delivery resulted in a third degree tear. They wouldn't give me one on the grounds of the GD. On this basis, I'd say all hospitals have their own policies on CS and GD.

Mr patio man just lifted up one of the old paving stones in the back and apparently we have an extended family of frogs living under there. He's set them free to roam - or do whatever it is frogs do.

I was gonna go and have a look at the m&s penny bazarre but I'm too tired to even brush my hair today. Let us know how you get on iris

johnworf · 20/05/2009 12:39

heron I've lost too many long posts so now I ctrl and C to copy all of my text before the darned thing self implodes. At least I can then post it all 3 hours later when MN is up and running and when none of it is then relevant to the current conversation

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 20/05/2009 12:43

Well, both girls are sicking for something Both in bed! This doesn't bode well for the wedding on Saturday (a friends, not mine)

iris have you tired H&M? or perhaps a look at jojomaman bebe (discount with MN) Sorry, as a former fashion editor that was pretty rubbish advice Have to say maternity wear may be better but it's still quite aimed at the work market and not for going out on the razz!

tee how lovely, glad you had a nice time and eyebrows are all in good order. Hahahaha, are you going to get DH to do your bikini line before the C-section? DP did mine - he was so nervous - but did a grand job that even got commented on in the Op theatre....he was so proud

JW sounds like it's gonna be a patio to be proud of....hope you're not watching Chelsea and getting carried away! DP doesn't want to know times, he just has a very literal take on things, doesn't see the finer subtlties, he's quite happy not to speak to anyone for days (including me!) and he's rigid about the way things are done, all has to be done in his order etc...yet he's a messy creature He did the 'Are you Aspergers?' test online, which although is funny is actually a real test. Top score was 40....he got 37

Tee2072 · 20/05/2009 12:47

iris I don't have GD, I have Type II and have had it for about 3 years. I don't know why they don't induce but it is almost always a CS at 38 weeks. Personally, after some of the induction horror stories I've heard, bother here on MN and elsewhere, I'd rather have the CS if they insist on delivering me early. I don't really get the 'ON NOT A CS' vibe that goes around, anyway. I just want baby out of me healthy.

Forgot all about the blue hair penny sale at M&S. Too tired to go check it out anyway! I don't recall seeing any signs for it on ours though, and I walked past there twice today!

heron the sites been awful for days. MN HQ claim they fixed it, but 5 minutes after I read that, I couldn't get on the site.

onehitwonder · 20/05/2009 13:50

Finally on maternity leave so time to catch up - well try and catch up .

Iris, JJ and JW, sorry to hear about your poorly little ones - hope they all stage swift recoveries.

Tee I am scheduled for a c-section too and have been busy gathering very positive stories from colleages and friends in fact no negative experiences reported at all. And I also have yet to pack my hospital bag. I have bought stuff for it, I am washing baby clothes and muslins for it, but I just hate packing.

I was lucky enough to get a really lovely send off from work. Big bunch of flower, big box of chocs and big wadge of cash. Which I am planning on spending replacing the GHD straighteners which I dropped in a dopey PG moment and broke last week . I just can't face the next 6 months or more with frizzy hair and happy mum, happy baby I say.

Looking forward to more time to post and get to know you all over the next few weeks before the new arrival.

heron22 · 20/05/2009 16:32

hi onehit i've had 2 scheduled sections and it was all ok! the second one was better as i knew what was going to happen. in fact, my obgyn (who is just lovely) checked out my ovary (i only have one, the other was removed due to tumour) and she told me that my ovary is looking good and i should hurry up and plan #3! sense of humour

Tabitha8 · 20/05/2009 17:19

Tee I'm refusing to be induced. The medics don't want me going past my due date. Perhaps we'll compromise on a c-section? I have also come across too many people who are induced and end up with an emergency c-setion anyway.
Heron For how long were you in hospital after your c-sections?

duchesse · 20/05/2009 18:26

Hooray, at last I have work! Only a day's worth, but better than a poke in the eye...

mrsboogie · 20/05/2009 18:34

hullo all

Been v busy all day so no time to check in or read posts. Second the view about CS over induction - my induction was horrible and failed at the crucial point- nearly ended in a EmC/S but had to have a ventouse delivery. Never again. Would def insist on a C/S if I ever do it again.

There is a piece on the bbc website today where a top obs doc says that CS is a totally rational option and its a load of female macho crap about having to give birth naturally.

Jeannie5194 · 20/05/2009 19:18

Evening all,

I've had not a second to spare since my post garage door encounter on Monday .

My head is healing nicely though a few people at work have commented on the cut on the size of the graze. I'm sure they're all really just trying to distract me whilst surrepticiously glancing at my tum.

I'm certain that I already appear to be sporting a "bump". Has this been created by post pregnancy test shock induced ice cream and chocolate consumption or do you always look pregnant quicker with second and subsequent pregnancies? To be honest I'd have thought that after 10 years everything would have pinged back as if from new but I'm sure that my elastic has gone already!

I've really enjoyed reading all of the chat on here - demon health visitors and breast feeding - ah its all coming back to me

hedgepig · 20/05/2009 19:27

evening, I have been mooching around "Site stuff" apparently mumsnet has been under some sort of cyber attack which is why it has been flaky for the last few days. MNblog, just in case anyone was interested.

I must admit I preferred the induction to my previous cs, but I did have an epidural with the induction and read the paper while I was waiting for things to happen so it wasn't really a natural birth experience.

O has been wailing today, went to see the HV (who was my old HV from 5 years ago lovely to see her again) about trying to get him to eat more. She thinks he is having too much milk (I hadn't realised the follow-on milk was higher in fat than the normal) and so he is not getting hungry enough to be bothered by food. Poor O hadn't a clue about what was going on as I reduced his milk, maybe he will get the idea tomorrow.

iris66 · 20/05/2009 19:40

Hi all
Well, M&S was a resounding failure on the penny bazaar front (apparently it's mornings only) but we investigated a new one recently opened and it's huuuuge so ended up (hormonally) buying lots of lovely stuff anyway (and yea so it came to pass that my HIP grant was verrily gone in one shop )I did get some birthday prezzies though so don't feel too bad.

Tee I know you're a "proper" diabetic, as it were, but was curious as at my hosp the policy seems to be induction at 38 wks (that's what I was supposed to have with both the boys anyway - managed to get going just on membrane rupture with DS2 thankfully, 2hrs 40 from waters to birth). I'm a total wuss when it comes to surgery so think it's really brave of anyone to have a CS.

jeannie - I think your body remembers and just sags & sighs (well mine did anyway) I feel bigger each time and it certainly takes longer to get any tone back - unless you're superfit to start with (I'm allergic to gyms so, as you may tell, I never got back to being toned at all)

onehitwonder - sounds like you're ready to relax now. The question is, will you????

DS2 still very miserable - he only had a 15min sleep today (and that was in the car) and has been a total klingon - wont even go to DH . Thank goodness he's been ok in the sling on my back but is soooo heavy! All tucked up now so am off to finish cooking some grub.

Tee2072 · 20/05/2009 19:41

mrsb I am right there with you on the female macho crap about natural birth.

Of course, I just got off the phone with my dad who is 'I'm not happy your having a CS! Its surgery!!'

Yes, Dad, it is. Under a spinal, not a general. Oh and about 1000000000000 of them are done every.friggin'.day. And if its the best way to get my baby safely out of me? I'm all for it.

And I'd rather have a scheduled one, over what happened to my SIL who was labouring well, then BAM baby in distress, emergency CS.

heron22 · 20/05/2009 20:04

hi tabitha for both sections, i was in for a week. my section scar is healing really well. i have been religiously applying bio-oil on it. i have olive skin and my scar dont heal nicely. i normally get keloid. but this time, the bio oil has really made a difference. instead of the "purple worm" i get ( i call it purple worm cos the scar is raised and purple in colour) my scar is rather flat and no bother at all.

mrsboogie · 20/05/2009 20:05

who was a after a nice dress for a do?

the greyish one on here is lovely

ermintrude13 · 20/05/2009 20:33

I wouldn't describe choosing natural labour over a CS as female macho crap - for me, choosing to have an operation and spend a week in hospital for something that I can do on my own at home with no cutting or drugs would just be plain weird. But as I've said before Tee and mrsb if I had to choose between an induction or a CS I'd prob opt for the latter because if your body doesn't go with the induction it can be a horrid experience - and there's nothing natural about being attacked down below by a pair of forceps or a ventouse . My 'honeymoon freshness' doesn't bother me, but hanging on to my pelvic floor is pretty important...

But if mum and/or baby need a CS - well, of course a safe delivery is the most important thing and the hows and wherefores don't matter a jot.

jeannie the elasticity was definitely there for me despite an almost 7 yr gap. Your uterus just knows, I'm afraid.

heron22 · 20/05/2009 20:38

ermin what do you mean by "honeymoon freshness"?

Tee2072 · 20/05/2009 20:48

ermintrude I don't disagree with you. What I disagree with is the attitude the if you don't deliver normally, you are some how a failure as a woman.

And I will only be in hospital for 2 - 3 nights, even with a CS.

heron as in virginal down below.
