hi all jj so sorry about your bad night it is just the pits. hope it is better tonight. i agree with ermin about CC. did it with DS1 and now LO cries before falling asleep. luckily it does not take that long, about 3-4 mins. but it is so upsetting.

as a mum, i feel i am always wiping something. from both ends at the same time at times!

DH has gone off for a bike ride as it is such a nice day. i am ok with it but at times like now, i am a bit pissed off. i am left holding the baby and doing all the other things that need to be done at this time of the day! trying not to get worked up about it cos it will just make my afternoon even harder.

rainbowdays · 10/05/2009 17:28

Are you ready for a newbie!!!! I have just got a bfp, and will be nearly 42 when this one arrives all being well. I had my last dc at age 40 too.

Tee2072 · 10/05/2009 17:55

Welcome and congratulations rainbowdays!!

johnworf · 10/05/2009 18:00

Afternoon ladies. Quick post as the children - older and younger - are still here, feeding their faces

I managed to finish off doing my little compilation of K's first year, adding a snippet of the video we found of her aged 2 days. It's here. For the ladies that don't see my Facebook, then some of these pics will be new. For those who do see my FB then you'll have seen many of these before

Must run...welcome rainbowdays Congrats on your BFP.

Speak more later.

heron22 · 10/05/2009 18:27

omg jw i am in tears, so beautiful...

Wonderwitch · 10/05/2009 18:35

rainbowdays
Wow congratulations, any idea yet of possible due date?
Great to have a newbie I'm a sort of newbie too, only been here a couple of weeks now. huge hugs xxx

JW
I'm the same as Heron, was crying my eyes out, K is just so gorgeous, you must be so proud, thank you for sharing that xx hugs xx

mrsboogie · 10/05/2009 18:58

aahh jw you made me cry too. Its nothing short of miraculous how well she has done.

Really resonates for me how tiny and vulnerable she was as she and D were conceived, I seem to remember, on the same day and he had so much longer to go on the inside at the time she was born. She looks like a doll in some of those early pics and she looks so healthy and bonny now.

Tee2072 · 10/05/2009 19:41

Crying here too, JW. How far she's come and how big she is now! A true miracle baby!

iris66 · 10/05/2009 19:50

...another in tears here jw did you mention earlier in the thread that she was born at 24+3? Unbelievable! She's done so, so well hasn't she - talk about fighting spirit!

Big sis went back home today after a lovely (albeit brief) visit. She hasn't any children herself but adores mine, and the feeling's mutual - they wouldn't leave her alone!. She cooked me a fab meal (one of Delias cheats, braising steak in marsala, mushroom & cream sauce. It was delicious, and so nice not to have to cook for a change It really made me wish we lived nearer my family sigh* - one day..

rainbowdays congratulations and welcome (though I'm fairly new too)

jj - disturbed sleep is just about the worst thing you get being a parent. You have my deepest sympathy. Just to buck the trend if you don't want to do CC... (yes, I'm a confirmed, co-sleeping, bf, babywearing, non vaccinating happy clappy hoopy jumper wearing - but reasonably well educated former C2 ).... Elizabeth Pantley - The No Cry Sleep Solution is an excellent book. It takes longer than CC but is a more gentle method.

Neddie congratulations on the foal and enjoy collecting your new car tomorrow.

*Tee - happy mothers' day hope your LO gives you some rest too.

wonderwitch if it's any consolation I went through a period of ridiculously early waking during the first few months (Tee - didn't you too?) but it's all settled down now [fingerscrossed emoticon]

Triggles · 10/05/2009 19:53

rainbowdays congrats and welcome!!

jeanjeannie · 10/05/2009 20:42

Evening all. Well, I've limped through the day. We did get out, so I don't feel too bad and DPs brother and sister (plus their partners) all came round - so there was entertainment for the girls!! Thanks for all your sympathies - most welcome

rainbowdays welcome and congrats...we love a newbie here! Sounds like you're no stranger to babies in your 40s....excellent! I didn't even start until I was 40 and now at 43 have two DDs So how far along are you, do you think?

jw Oooer, I did come over a bit teary! Cor, you can really see her 'taking off' around the time she was actually due, her little face really fills out. She's one heck of a little star. Ah, what my mad FIL would call...."a little cracker!" Hope you had a nice day with the family - t'was a lovely day here....sun has been blasting out.

neddie congrats on the gorgeous foal. I think you should put a picture up! I agree, foals win on the cute-stake every time. Then again, I'm a bit soppy with horses, they make me feel all happy - like most people feel when they see dolphins!! It's that soft bit around the nose that does it....oh and the soft, firm, pointy ears!

iris am PMSL@ your description of yourself Awwww, bless you, you probably have to stick your fingers in your ears and go "lalalalalala" when some of us get on our rants! That's what I love about our happy little 40s thread....we all very different....and don't care!! Actually I'd read about that Elizabeth Pantley book on another discussion on MN....I'll look it up, thanks for reminding me

OK....reckon I'll get through another hour and that'll be my lot! I'm digging into a bowl of frozen fruit with low fat bio-yoghurt...not fattening but surprisingly pleasing!

Tee2072 · 10/05/2009 21:06

iris yeah I did get up way early, but I am not a good example since I've been an insomniac for years!

neddie I agree we need pictures of new horse baby!!

JJ I hope you get some rest tonight!

BonzoDoodah · 10/05/2009 21:29

Awww lovely video jw ... makes me think how can someone so tiny actually make it. So amazing that she did.

Am with you all on the lack of sleep. Poor you jj ... and you other preggers ones. It's so frustrating isn't it.

I've just come back from my mum's house where we were invited to visit for a half hour slot in her busy schedule (!). She amazes me sometimes ... how un-mother-like she can behave. she decided at the menopause " no more Mrs Nice Guy" and has taken it to heart with everyone and everything.
She was moaning today that she's been shattered the last couple of days. I said "oh its hard isn't it but welcome to my world - I've felt like that for the last 6 months! She snarked back "YES I HAVE been pregnant before" (I mentioned she was a lot younger then) " And I had a toddler too " She stropped back ... .FFS She was in her early 20's when she had me and my sister and early 30's my brother!!! And that was a bloody long time ago. How can she have so little bloody sympathy and be so flaming defensive about everything. This is the mother that offered to help babysit on New Year's Day when we were having 10 people for a full christmas dinner (and we had 1 day to prepare) ... when she hadn't turned up by 12:30 (dinner was at 4) and I phoned her - she was out walking the dog instead ... her explanaintion ... " they'd decided not to bother" (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Sorry - I should be an the AIBU thread ... but she really winds me up a lot sometimes [climbs off soapbox]
Ah feel better now. [slumps into chair] where's that Toblerone I saw in the cupboard?

ermintrude13 · 10/05/2009 21:54

Ooh Bonzo take some Toblerone NOW! I found that I had to step back from my mother many years ago because she could wind me up with all sorts of manipulative little tricks. Not all of my sisters have learnt this trick so some of them are constantly being wound up by her self-centredness and it takes up so much time and is so upsetting. If she gets too much I just change the subject now and never ever get into a disagreement because I just duck it. Maybe don't take your mum up on all the offered half-hour slots and don't rise to the bait when she tells you how tiring her life is? Good luck.

JW That video got me blubbing before Ronan had sung 2 bars. What a little dot, and look at her now. Thanks for posting it.

JJ and Iris I tried several methods before CC and tried the Sears/Pantley method with DS but it just didn't address the precise problems we were having and didn't work for us. The CC was a very short-term fix with long-term benefits so after she 'got' it after 3 nights my DD no longer cried on being put down and bedtime became delightful and calm. If it had gone on with her sobbing for weeks that would have been a different matter.
Iris - I'm a co-sleeping extended b/f sling-wearing mummy as well but, as someone who can never become immune to German Measles no matter how often she is vaccinated, I am particularly keen on public health vaccination schemes and dread the words 'of course, he's not going to have the MMR' because that decision doesn't just expose the speaker's DC to potentially harmful illnesses, but also me and, more importantly, my unborn LO. So, unlike how we give birth to, wean, dress and educate our DC it has implications for other people....

Neddie congrats on your newborn foal! I don't actually find them very cute - their legs are so thin and bendy I find it rather worrying - but they are beautiful. [happy]

mrsboogie · 10/05/2009 22:06

ooh yes, a piccie of the baby horse please!

ermintrude yes, wholly concur.

my little man is still up! not tired he reckons..

duchesse · 11/05/2009 07:46

Hello ladies!

I just spent the week in France with our village exchange committee. I was billeted in a household that included a 13 month old baby, who sleeps 8pm-7:30am every day, plus a three hour nap in the afternoon. I was there for 5 days and heard her crying twice- the rest of the time she crawls around investigating things, and never seems to get into a fix the way my oldest did roughly very 1/4 hour. Very pleasant it was, and I will certainly be asking her mother for advice!

Tee2072 · 11/05/2009 07:52

Good morning!

My least favourite way to be woken up? With a mouth full of acid. Man being pregnant is such a joy!

duchesse when you find out the secret of perfect baby, do share!!

4th to last day of work.

heron22 · 11/05/2009 09:07

morning all! so very windy out there, but blue skies. so DS1 wore his shades out today. he looks so grown up - all of 5 yrs old

tee you must be getting so very excited ! i remember i was!

about perfect babies, i think it is mostly due to the personality of the baby ? us parents we try our best and things like sleeping is mostly due to luck!

iris66 · 11/05/2009 09:10

morning all

Tee - yeuck poor you not long now (hackneyed phrase I know but all I can think of right now)

Bonzodoodah - what were you doing with my mum!? She's a nighmare isn't she lol. There was an interesting article in yesterday's Times about the mother/daughter relationship by the way here.

ermintrude - If the way I posted yesterday caused offence, I apologise, it was unintentional. Though thee issues are contentious aren't they and probably best avoided. I'm sorry you are vulnerable to German measles but there can be medical reasons not to vaccinate too and I certainly don't subscribe the dubious "vaccinations are an abuse of the child" bo&&ocks. Also, as demonstrated on this thread - each child is different. I used CC to good effect with DD, as a baby, and the boys when they were older, but it didn't suit either of my boys before they were about 14/15 mths, they just became totally hysterical. I agree with you that there is no "one style fits all" solution in any aspect of parenting.

Got some fab news this morning. As DH is away for so long some of the guys from his work are coming over to mow our lawn! The boys will be able to see each other playing again yay!!

ermintrude13 · 11/05/2009 09:59

Iris no offence taken at all, I just added my two ha'porth (is that where the apostrophe goes? ). We're very mature on this thread - we must be cos it says so in the title - and can take someone else's differing opinion without getting uppity or taking it personally. Mostly.

I thought Bonzo had my mum! Will check out the article and hope it's not depressing reading.

Duchesse that baby sounds impressive. I bet she'll speak French fluently too, which always sounds clever to me .

Tee mmm, what a lovely waking. Now I'm on Ranitidine I don't have the problem at night, although I do need to have Gaviscon gloop after meals. But am sleeping better.

MrsB hope your nightowl dropped off and is giving you a lie-in this morning.

The sun has come out!

heron22 · 11/05/2009 10:16

the sun is out here too but so windy!

mrsboogie · 11/05/2009 10:45

mornin

the nightowl didn't go to sleep til 11pm! he stayed up playing nicely and ate some broccoli florets and lemon roast potatoes when we had dinner.

He wanted a lie in this morning though and didn't wake til 9am! made us late for work and we had to drive. But nice

lovely day here too,
