I am getting the Quinny Buzz 3 in black. It looks good, isn't that heavy and has good reviews.

We don't have a car, so it will be baby's main mode of transport!

Go and try a load of different ones and see which you like. Everyone raves about the quinny for example, but I don't like it at all - I found it very difficult to get my hands around the mechanism to fold it. It would have proved very annoying! So we went for different one.

It is very individual.

Thinking of getting an Out and About Nipper 360 for a dc3. Looks to be a fairly inexpensive, lightweight 3 wheeler. Before we used a Maclaren Techno + sling from birth but the techno has gone a bit mouldy in the shed. Am thinking a 3 wheeler with more suspension will be good for the new one when we are dashing around from school to nursery with his 2 siblings! (Good for shortcuts across field ).

Can anyone recommend an off road buggy/pram suitable from birth? I am expecting my third, already have a dd and a ds. We have horses so i need something to get across muddy show grounds etc. Thanks x

BikeRunSki · 06/04/2009 13:44

Please don't get a Quinny Buzz - they are too wide for a lots of doors/aisles in shops, handle badly, feel flimsy and annoying to fold. When my second hand one fell apart after 6 months I was delighted and am now very very hapy with my Phil and Ted's Sport. If you do get one, get the 4 wheele which handles a bit better.

Rachel4 My DH does a lot of mountain biking and I walk miles and miles off road. The P&T Sport is quite happy in muddy woods, fields, race tracks, bridleways etc. You can get a "cocoon" insert to use it from birth.

I'm currently obsessing about this...

I've been given a car seat, and a moses basket, so don't really need a travel system with carrycot and carseat. They also seem very bulky and kind of over-engineered for carrying a tiny baby.

So, all I need is a buggy that can go flat, so suitable from birth, and that faces me. At the moment heart is set on a Stokke Xplory, as I love the way the baby is up high, but the PRICE! Even on Ebay they go for £400. An alternative would be the Bugaboo bee, as that looks really compact, has one handle, and folds down small.

I'm also a bit of a design freak, and a lot of the pushchairs just seem damn ugly!

pop1973 · 06/04/2009 15:21

I have been looking into this too. I have been advised against a Quinny as they are great for town but not good for the country.

I will try and get a Britax Vigour 3+ suitable for birth with the pram feature and a three wheeler.

But I haven't been able to get one second hand, so might have to shop around and buy a new one in a months time.

lastboxoftampons · 06/04/2009 15:56

I'm considering the new Britax Vigour also (but probably the 4-wheeler instead of the 3)

Ohters in the running at the moment are
Bebecar Ip Op
Icoo Targo
Bugaboo Bee
Micralite Toro

But each has something that makes it not perfect... Which I imagine is just how it goes. Plus, I'm having a not so great time locating some in shops so that I can test them out. Big pram shopping trip is Saturday.

Leannabanana · 06/04/2009 15:57

i saw a stokke today....they look gorgeous but i can't get over the price....i actually really like a Graco one - i can't remember which one but it is called lemongrass....i want one that is comfortable and has tall enough handles. I am pretty tall as is DH and lots of them just seem to damn small to be comfortable.....its sooooo difficult....

Not a mum to be but the mum of a 15 month old and I have just bought a second hand Bee yesterday and I love it. It lies flat so with the newborn insert it would be fine for a baby. It also takes the Maxi Cosi so is a travel system. I love it and would definitely buy it straight away if I had my time again.

jltnw3 · 06/04/2009 18:06

I just got the Stokke Xplory. The price is stupidly high, but my in laws very generously bought it for us. It can be a real pain trying to figure out how to put it up and down, and extend handles etc, though once you have the hang of it it's not bad - but then I haven't had my baby yet, so that view may change when I actually have to use it rather than prance around the living room with it!

Everyone in my neighbourhood has Bugaboos, so I wanted to avoid them, plus I've heard bad things about their wheel mechanisms. I tried out the iCandy apple, but the hood wouldn't stay up, and hubby didn't like the wheels (I think that's a man thing...). However, we only tried it out in John Lewis, so I don't know if it was just because it was a display model and had been tried by so many people it was a wreck.

I think it's true that they all have their flaws, and it's just a case of picking one that you like the look of and doesn't require a PhD to use.

bozette · 06/04/2009 21:25

Rachel4 the out'n'about nipper 360 lies flat and is suitable from birth and with a head hugger is very cosy and goes across fields very easily. Its very light as well. I should be claiming comission from them as i'm always raving about it but i do really think its great!! Sating that, DC2 is due soon and i'm going to have to get a p&t's as ds will only be 22 months but will keep the nipper and use in preference when only have one child with me.

herbaceous · 06/04/2009 22:07

I just got outbid for an xplory on ebay. Bah. However, I think this is the way forward. My mum said she's 'pay for a pushchair', but has refused the pay the whole price of an Xplory. I think she was imagining a £99 McLaren. Kchaw.

TaleofTwoCities · 06/04/2009 22:10

Hi bozette - you sound like an expert on the nipper - do you know where the best place is to buy one? Thanks

bozette · 07/04/2009 22:02

Hi TaleofTwoCities I'm no expert merely amateur enthusiast!! I think www.practicalpushchairs.co.uk is quite good, my friend bought hers from there. I bought mine from a local baby shop (A3 baby barn, near kingston, should also get comission from them as i rave about them too!!)as it was only about £10 more expensive and i wanted to be able to easily take it back if there was a problem. Happy shopping!!

TaleofTwoCities · 07/04/2009 22:20

Hi bozette, hmm well this would be our 6th buggy/pram so guess I must be an enthusiast as well - there's always another buggy that will meet current needs just that little bit better... we are quite near Kingston, oh dear I can feel a trip to the baby barn coming on...

Sorrento · 07/04/2009 22:25

I am so glad somebody mentioned the Bugaboo Bee, I think that would be my first choice, would love the Stokke but the price is just ridiculous.

Pinkbump3 · 08/04/2009 00:11

I bought the mutsy urban rider and i cant wait to use it (1week to go)

it has steering, great off road tyres and has 4 handle hight adjustments im 5'7 and the handle goes up higher than i need also the carrycot is high so your not having to bend over low to sort baby this is one thing that won me over with the pram, as i found the bug, icandy and others like bebecar are quite low when you are a tall person!

BumptasticIn09 · 08/04/2009 17:25

I have a Bugaboo Bee & a Stokke Xplory
The Bee is second hand from a mn'er.
My Xplory is a gift from my very kind MIL - it will be my main pram for walking to school, going shopping etc, the Bee is for dh's car & walking the dog etc. (3 weeks to go until I can use them)

I actually have 2 Xplory's I bought a 2nd hand one & then my MIL informed me she had purchased a new complete system which was supposed to be a surprise - how was I supposed to know not to buy one?!
I'll have to sell my other one! Oops!

herbaceous · 08/04/2009 17:44

Bumptastic. Sell it to me! I give you very good price. Well, ish.

BumptasticIn09 · 08/04/2009 17:51

Haha herbaceous, loving the 'ish' there
It's orange with brand new wheels btw. Lol

herbaceous · 08/04/2009 17:55

Honestly - if you do want to sell it, email me at sherbert3 @ mac. com and tell me how much you're looking for.
