We bit the bullet and bought an Xplory. Best decision we ever made. It's a fantastic thing - my mother got him a Mountain Buggy as she does serious off road walking (has done Lands End to John O'Groats, the Spanish pilgrimage, you name it) and I hate it - low, hard to handle, not all that comfy for my son, gives me backache. The Xplory is narrow, feels light, keeps him out of the fumes, and alert and interested in the view/fast asleep in turns. Faces all ways, copes with all weathers, takes a huge amount in the bag and has a nifty changebag clipping to the "stem" that's also a backpack, so you don't need to sling anything onto handles. I have a bad back and am recovering from SPD, and the MB hurts my back severely - the Xplory works like a walking frame and actually supports me. Stokke make products to avoid back strain so there's also no kick plate to made you hobble, and the footrest for the child is adjustable to help their posture, too. The handle adjusts more than any other buggy, which is important, given there's well over a foot between DH and my mother. It's just a wonderful buggy IMO, and using another has confirmed it. I am a total cheapskate as a rule - buy most of his clothes on Ebay second hand - but a new, guaranteed Xplory from Lullabys is under 500 quid, with a resale that edges 400. That makes it a £100 buggy in the end, and the convenience and brilliant design makes it so, so worth it.

Qally · 09/04/2009 00:50

Should add that the MB is a million times better than the Xplory off-road, which is what it's designed for. I just hate using it in town, where the Xplory is, in turn, a million times better.

herbaceous · 09/04/2009 09:48

Qually - are you in cahoots with Bumptastic?

Mumzzi · 09/04/2009 11:56

I've ordered a Silver Cross Sleepover, which is a pram and then is also a pushchair!thought i'd get my moneys worth!!
I know i really didn't realise how expensive prams were!!
O and thats if my pram ever turns up!it's taking ages!anyone ordered from bambino direct!? x

Leannabanana · 09/04/2009 12:25

We bought the Bugaboo for our DS1 - the pram was lovely, very light and it fit just right in our small boot. DS1 didn't stay in the buggy for long, we started using a M&P lightweight stroller when he was about 1. However, we will be using the bugaboo again this time round.

babycat · 09/04/2009 14:20

I'm thinking about getting a new pushchair for when DC2 arrives in August. DD1 will be 2.7 & rarely uses the M&P Pliko that we have had since she was born but I think I might struggle with holding onto her and pushing a newborn. I'm fed up with the Pliko & it looks tatty now so have been trying to justify getting a Phil n' Teds Sport with doubles kit & Cocoon. The best deal I have seen is online from a company called Precious Little Ones. Anyone bought from this company? Would you recommend it? What do you think about the Phil n Teds Sport?

Qally · 09/04/2009 20:18

ROTF, no, I actually thought Bumptastic was a shop (another name for Lullabys maybe?) and was getting all sniffy!

Honestly, I love mine so much. Though tbh I'd always buy new and sell on, as the guarantee is very worthwhile on an expensive item like an Xplory, if it can't be fixed by a bike shop as a MB can.

Mummzi and anyone else - it's always a good idea to google a company name and "customer service", or to run a search on Mumsnet, as there are some awful, awful companies out there. I've heard dreadful things about Bambino Direct, and Two Left Feet have been on Watchdog 2 or 3 times. It's a lot of money to risk.

Leannabanana · 10/04/2009 16:24

i have just been to the mamas and papas shop near me and fallen in love with their 8-in-1 pram set....big bouncy wheels, gorgeously soft fabric and a proper smart looking pram....595 tho....more than i wanted to spend....is second hand ever any good - i am always sooo disappointed when i buy off ebay....

Just for information, I was in mothercare today and they had a notice up saying that Two Left Feet are out of business.

nappyaddict · 27/04/2009 11:33

traxx ecuador, maxi cosi mura 4, pliko switch, mutsy 4 rider or light rider as it is sometimes called (not urban rider that's an arse to push), any of the teutonia pushchairs, mamas and papas skate, m&p joolz, gesslein f2, gesslein future, gesslein vision s, mothercare maiu, bebecar ip-op, bebecar vector, mia moda allegria, mia moda atmosferra, bugaboo bee, jane solo, luna, petite star whirl, petite star dot, petite star zia 4.

Effielou · 27/04/2009 11:43

We are thinking of the Mutsy Urban Rider in either black or grey we like the red but my DS and DD are redheads and would want to clash!!!lol xxx
Has any bought one?? and what do you think of it-- we did think of the iCandy Apple- but DH loves the wheels on the urban rider??? Due to buy on sat??

nappyaddict · 27/04/2009 12:11

I had the urban rider but when the lite rider version came out i bought that chassis as it is much easier to push.

Effielou · 27/04/2009 12:19

Thank-you for that its good to know we have tried the lite rider, as they didn't have the urban rider chassis in the shop-- so I will bear that in mind.
Thanks again xxx

Effielou · 29/04/2009 15:34

Hi All.

After considering the Musty range then reassing budget I've been researching again for another travel system!!! My only must is a carrycot!!

I like the Maxi-cosi mura 3/4 and one called sproggs-- which I have never heard of before. We are off to test drive on sat- does anyone have any opinions!!! Help xx

nappyaddict · 30/04/2009 00:27

Is the Maxi Cosi Mura not about the same price as a mutsy? The thing with the mutsy is cos it's been out a few years you will probably pick a bargain one up on ebay, whereas the mura is quite new still so will still be quite expensive second hand.

Longtalljosie · 30/04/2009 07:50

See my earlier thread here - and all the advice I had

DH is now very set on a Bugaboo Chameleon but I'm still trying to get my head around the price. Best friend has recommended a Teutonia Spirit S3 but would like to see one in the flesh (or the canvas?)

chaya5738 · 30/04/2009 08:35

We just bought the Bugaboo Gecko/Frog, which is basically a more affordable version of the Chameleon. It seems excellent although they are no longer stocking it in the UK (even though it is the most popular model it was taking sales away from the more expensive Chameleon apparently) so you have to get in quick to buy the remaining ones. We boughts ours online.

Effielou · 30/04/2009 10:20

Thanks for that I'm a bit of a worry guts when it comes to ebay I like the smell of baby puke to be from my own baby- IYKWIM lol!!
We go to a nursery shop near us for our prams- they make sure the carseats fit properly and advise you to a different one- if its not right!! They quoted 650 for the mutsy ( chassis, seat, carrycot and carseat ) and fot the maxi-cosi- from there website it was 520ish for the came package then I looked on kiddicare- and it was slightly cheaper!! So eventhough its not a huge difference it makes my DH sweat less!!

Thanks for advice--looking forward to test driving them on sat xx

oopsacoconut · 30/04/2009 10:41

Effielou - We have the Maxicosi Mura 3 and I'm in love with it, DD is now 8months and still fits in the carrycot - just - it fits in the boot of my Vauxhall Aguila. The frame is quite heavy but we bought it because DH liked the sturdy feel. I walk miles with it and it is not heavy to push and it comes with all the carseat/pram/carseat attachments and is really to take apart put together. Any questions just ask!
