You should all also consider/take a look at the Mutsy 4 rider light (google it) - fantastic make from Holland, excellent quality! I had never heard of Mutsy but they had them in stock in a small baby shop near me and it's beautiful to push, has carrycot for the first few months and then turns into a very nice pushchair!

TheNatty · 10/05/2009 11:24

i got my Chicco Trio4me on ebay for 300, brand new.
includes carrycot, which is big enough to use a crib for at least 6months if you get a good mattress for it.
carseat (the early one group 0 is it?)
a brilliant stroller which faces in and out
luxury seat liner and foot muff
changing bag and raincover

my DD uses the stroller atm, not much bigger then a maclaren.

such an under rated pushchair, it really is a brilliant design, and needs more publicity!

ladylush · 10/05/2009 11:42

Oh no STOP Too much choice. Will check out your suggestions.
H is a bit superficial and it's more about the looks but as he says, it'll be me pushing it most of the time.

Scorpio - two bugaboos Now that's greedy

MoBea · 10/05/2009 15:45

I have always thought John Lewis was a god of a shop but I am more convinced than ever. Book a nursery appointment and they will talk you through everything you need. We spent two hours in their Bluewater branch and feel so much more informed. They will create a list for you (bit like a wedding list) but there is no obligation to buy and they are not pushy at all. The staff know the products and couldn't be more helpful.

madmissy · 10/05/2009 18:21

lush are you talking new or used?

personally i think bugaboo have got big for their boots now and the prices recently went up which is stupid, however i loved the cam from birth up to say a 16 months old after that both my daughters heads were on the hood which fro a pram of that cost is nightmare..... ok if you are getting used one at cheaper price however. each time i get (cant for sure now) a cam i fall in love with it and then my dd looks huge lol

frog was lovely ive had 3-4 of them now cant rem but these are underated tbh shame they stopped these as they are better than the gecko imo

gecko is tiny

but honest opinion cam great lovely with cot on but over priced and realisticly wont last long. whether you buy new or used you will get a good resale price on ebay however think of it like a car lol they hold their money well

ladylush · 10/05/2009 20:26

Madmissy - if I get a cam it will defo be used as I could not justify that price especially when I have a perfectly good Maclaren in the garage, which will be fine for 16months +

madmissy · 11/05/2009 20:29

go for it then have fun choosing colours lol

ladylush · 11/05/2009 20:47

Madmissy - you said you like the frog. Do you think it would be more dodgy buying a second hand frog - given that it isn't being made anymore?

Also re the cam - are there any particular models (year of manufacture etc.) that should be avoided?

Sorry for all the questions - but you do seem to be an expert in this field

lastboxoftampons · 12/05/2009 11:53

Hi there - can I crash? Due in July and thought we had the pram situation sorted, but now DH is saying he thinks we should look around more

Looking for something that can lie flat/use from birth (preferrably without a carrycot as don't have the space to store extra bits), can face me or out, light enough for public transportation, but rugged enough for long walks in the park. Would also love for it to fold with seat unit on and to take a carseat directly onto the chassis (we don't have a car, but if visiting with family will likely be picked up from train station and will need something), but fear this is asking too much!

Top choices were:

Britax Vigour 4 2009 model - this is what we were basically set on

Icoo Targo - looks ideal, but I've yet to be able to find it in a shop to take a look at it

Bebecar Ip Op - again, have not seen it in shop

Bugaboo Bee - DH and I feel it's a bit too small for a toddler and flimsy

Micralite Toro - Love it, but doesn't face me and requires a carry cot

Bebeconfort Streety - seems a good alternative to the Bee, but I know the quality is just not the same.

Any thoughts or other suggestions much appreciated!!!!

madmissy · 12/05/2009 13:43

just a quick reply

frog not not a prob you can still order parts new from say j.lewis should you need too or again loads on ebay and without confusing even more so lol some cam parts fit the frog.

with regards to cam 08 onwards you have the newest model in which the handle adjustment is different (it doesnt twist on new) and the wheels are now foam rather than the ai r filled.

09 onwards you have the new choice of fabric base colours but the buggy is basically one big build up so you can always get new if you say erm you got a £260 bargain older one (which i juyst sold mine for)

hope that helps off out will be bk later

ladylush · 14/05/2009 18:15

Very helpful MM
Do you think it makes much difference to get an older model?

madmissy · 14/05/2009 18:32

the last cam i had i slowly built up in spares that were sold on ebay lol

but tbh i dont think so the only advantage i can see with new 08/09 is the foam wheels and you can always order some and sell the ones you get on ebay and then the buggys like new

secondhand you can get a good deal there is always a package available with lots of extras have a good nose

ladylush · 14/05/2009 20:35

Yes there seems to be a lot of frogs on ebay for good prices. That might be the way to go. Phew think we have finally decided - either a second hand frog or chameleon

madmissy · 15/05/2009 09:19

cool good luck on your search!

ladylush · 15/05/2009 19:18

Have seen a couple of frogs on ebay. Both have 2 days left to run. One is going for about £150 so far and the other about £180. The cheaper one is in good condition and a car seat is included. The more expensive one does not have a car seat but is in mint condition. Do all of the frogs have reversible seats?

ladylush · 15/05/2009 19:20

MM I should pay you really I think with all of this technical knowledge you could be an engineer (hell, maybe you are!).

madmissy · 15/05/2009 19:28

lol

yes all the bugaboos have reversible seats
link me will tell you what i think lol

ladylush · 15/05/2009 19:34

Hmm, will try - bit behind the times technology wise

ladylush · 15/05/2009 19:48

this page

and this page

madmissy · 15/05/2009 20:09

go for the second one it hardly used still has extras and tbh better to buy a new car seat so you know its safe. that one looks new which fro a blk frog is hard find as the hoods can fade. prob will reach £280 ish may go for tad more

good luck

Fruitpastels · 15/05/2009 20:36

I will be using my Mamas & Papas Pliko Pramette again. It lays flat and faces you when baby is very young. Collapses down neatly and fitted in my Nissan Micra, which is a diddy car. It converts to a pushchair and faces away from you when baby is a bit older. I had no problems with it with DS. I do drive so don't have to walk very far, and can't remember how well it pushes. This was nearly 4 years ago and It looks in great condition so I can't really justify buying another pram. Also, my DS was a winter baby and by the summer he was sitting up and able to go into a Maclaren, which was far easier to move about as he got heavier. I can't believe how expensive some prams are! I've also found out I can by a M&P rear facing car seat thats fits on the pram, which really helps. I had the maxicosi car seat and had to disturb DS each time we needed to get out of the car.

ladylush · 15/05/2009 22:46

I agree MM - thanks

staylucky · 16/05/2009 01:27

Fruitpastels Hey, I've stayed away from this thread because in all honesty I have never heard of any of most of these pushchairs before let alone seen them so it's nice to see the one i've just bought mentioned!

My DD is 5 and I swore I would never have any more babbas so I threw everything out. Going looking round the shops at baby gear again was very bloody frightening, I don't know what half of this stuff is meant to do! I am very pleased with the pram though, got it a couple of months back and got it out the box right away. Me and the boyf were pushing baby annabel around the living room in it for a good half hour...

Maclarens are wicked for zipping round the shops am just waiting for the right moment to break it to him indoors that we'll probably only use the fancy new Pliko for about 6 months

Fruitpastels · 16/05/2009 16:49

Have fun using it Staylucky. My Pliko fabric has been discontinued. But I found they still have the nappy bag and footmuff at half price on the M&P website - happy about that.

naomi83 · 16/05/2009 21:12

fruit pastels, don't get the mamas and papas car seat, it's really terrible- heavy and newborn's head flops in it for first 4/5 months! i would stick with your maxi cosi, most people i know with M&P's one sold it and bought mxi cosi/britax before the year was out!
