Good morning
Welcome Wonderwitch and congratulations.
I'm 45 and had my very much planned pfb son, Alex, 19 mths ago after 3 yrs of trying and 6 m/cs (all due to a genetic condition and a blood disorder nothing to do with age)..and but for the genetic prob I'd definately be trying for another. I joined this thread after A. was born because although I was, and still am, a regular on a fab ante natal thread I needed to feel a little less unusual in waiting so long for motherhood. I hope you have a wonderful smooth 7 months..and enjoy lots of virtual cake.

JW we are letting this nasty bug take its course.A hasn't been sick for 48 hrs now and hasn't had an 'explosion' for 20 hrs...I have let him have some dry toast this morning and so far so good....as for me...'loperamide' is a miracle cure!. The weather seems to be changing up here the sun is breaking through those grey clouds, so perhaps you will get a chance to don your lovely new sandals later.
JJ I hope that things are better for you and yours today...what a fab mil you have!

Dh is finally rising from his pit...time to do the ritual sunday Dog walk enfamillee...have a lovely Sunday everyone.

heron22 · 03/05/2009 09:22

morning all! congrats wonderwitch yes you are a mere spring chicken! i am 43 and have a nearly 4 month old DS2 and DS1 is nearly 5.
like jw said, this thread moves very fast! we are all very friendly here bet you're looking forward to your 12 week scan!

it is dark and threatening to rain here. going out shopping with DS1 later for summer sandals, not for me, for him!

DH says that he does not get to spend enough time with DS2, so today we are swapping kids

just had a lovely breakfast, pumping milk now!

mrsboogie · 03/05/2009 09:53

morning all and congrats wonderwitch You will be one of the youngest on here!

weather nice enough here but I don't expect it will last.

jj hope all are feeling much improved.

jw I think you'd find that if the benefits depended on it most girls would be able to remember who they had sex with...

heron22 · 03/05/2009 10:06

anyone here on twitter?

johnworf · 03/05/2009 11:00

heron I'm on twitter but hardly ever get time to tweet these days. Sigh.

mrsb think you're prolly right re the benefits and memory recall

iris66 · 03/05/2009 11:13

morning all
It's a beeeeeeeeeautiful sunny day here. I've got my lovely sparkly white sheets blowing on the line, prepped the roast lamb for lunch and even the boys are playing nicely in the garden. 'tis a good day

Congratulations wonderwitch there are a fair few of us on here having a second stab at motherhood. I only recently joined the thread too (DD 20, DSS1 16, DSS2 15, DS1 3, DS2 18mths and I'm due at the beginning of July)

Hope everyone with the D&V bug is feeling a bit brighter today. I can't think of anything more hideous to have as a household . The only thing that's doing the rounds here is a particularly nasty strain of chicken pox. The boys had it before DH went away (thankfully).

I do agree with the single mum/education thing. My exDH left when DD was 1 and, even though I worked full time and only qualified to claim child benefit, I was paranoid about being viewed as a benefits sponger (oh the joy of the Thatcher years!) To be fair though - I only had one child, I don't know how I'd have coped with any more.

The benefits system is such that those who actually need it most, are those who don't get it. The spongers with time on their hands know how to screw the system I'm vaguely hopeful that the credit crunch shift in attitude to what constitutes success may bring about a change in people's views - though It will, sadly, take a very long time (there's a lot to be said for real communist ideals IMO)

johnworf · 03/05/2009 11:33

iris methinks that if this policy comes into play, that those on incapacity benefit (many, many, milking it) have to work - paid or voluntary - then that'll shake some of the scroungers up. DSS's mother claims the above and I know for a fact she knows every little thing she can screw out of the system. Btw, there's nothing wrong with her but I'm told by DH she's taken to using crutches (probably when she signs on). I'm sure that a medical and a job would sort her out.

rant over

iris66 · 03/05/2009 11:41

jw - trouble is, the spongers will just get more inventive and even more of those who really need it will suffer On a brighter note however, if they have to do voluntary work then at least society will get something back maybe they'll push some resources to the thousands of charities that our darling gov't can't be bothered to suppport anymore

jeanjeannie · 03/05/2009 13:26

Afternoon. Well, everyone seems better....apart from me DP is back doing the garden with his brother and I'm just on my last legs...soooo tired and my stomach keeps tightening...but I have lost 4lbs in three days

Welcome and CONGRATS wonderwitch lovely to have such a spring chicken in our midst! I'm 43 and didn't have DD1 till I was 41, swiftly followed by DD2 at 42 So how are you feeling ....has the sickness crept in yet?

iris I do worry that so many charities pick up the pieces of people left out of the system through no fault of their own. Many of our wonderful charities are shamefully cast aside - I would love to think that folk who can't be arsed to do anything and expect to get paid for it, would benefit charities (and themselves) but I fear way too many are like jw's DSS's mum....and be too stupid or too emotionally defunct to understand what contribution means. i have a real problem understanding the extend of the wealth that the top wage earners have amassed in relation to their tax payouts....yet charities so often struggle.

I would love, love, love to see a government in power that spends money as though it were their own; not throwing enormous sums at NHS/Education/employment and say 'what a good boy and I' because yes, that money also gets creamed off. There has been just too many rushed through polices. My mate across the road is a government lawyer....I shan't tell you half the stuff that's illegal but gets through.....and as for Europe...well, that's a whole different topic of wasted cash!!

Who mentioned communism as being principled at heart? MMmm, yes, well, everyone has to have a job! Hahah listening to Radio 4 and it's talking to people in my parent's home village - think they're a revolt on in the provences!

Sorry - ranting - but I don't feel well and it makes me feel better

jeanjeannie · 03/05/2009 13:27

ps. sorry didn't re-read any of the above, so please ignore spellings/content etc

johnworf · 03/05/2009 14:00

goes through JJ*'s last post with a red marker pen

I dunno if there is an answer to the state of the benefits v scroungers argument. I doubt there is.

Glad that the clan are back on their feet but as always, you'll be the last to get better and receive no sympathy nor support (that's how it goes at Worf Towers anyway).

K is playing the 'I can go for hours on 10 minutes sleep' game. Oh what joy! It was only a couple of weeks ago I was worried that she slept too much. That'll teach me. I can't complain at her being awake in the day though as she sleeps right through. She's not even woken with her teeth! Jeez, my older 3 never slept when they were teething and had every symptom going.

Well today she has shown me how she rolls over so she's already cleverer than the dog. Not difficult. I think we're nearing the sitting up alone as the hands are out for balancing.

Just been finalising this menu for the non-christening. I asked DH if he was ok with canapes and he gave me a withering look and asked me what they were Uphill climb all the way............I'll just order them and he can stick his face in the sausage rolls as they are more up his street.

Any ideas ladies on the drinks front for a daytime soiree where there'll be kids, teenagers, twenty somethings, most of the adults driving so not drinking? I was thinking couple of bottles of champagne, some beers and the usual tea/coffee/juices. Any suggestions or additions?

Oh and also your comments on this and this dress? I love them but a bit pricey as I hardly ever go out so will hardly wear them....oh but they are lovely and would be perfect for the day.

jeanjeannie · 03/05/2009 14:27

jw BOTH are gorgeous....and i don't think they're that $££$$ Blimey, what can you get for under £100 these days...that isn't on ebay?

Oooo,an afternoon soiree. Well, I'm VERY partial to cordials....I really like Luscombes' Elderflower...I think big supermarkets sell it still. And Belvoirs is nice too. Then you can get some big jugs on the go...people could help themselves!

How about making loads of ice cubes before the day...with cherries, or rasberries, or half strawberries inside them. They just look special and kids love them. Also if there are kiddies you could do some nice lollies before hand too. I'd run through a couple of the mags online like Delicious and Good Food...both of which I think are great for ideas.

Cup cakes are BANG on TREND And may please your DH and DSS! Also jelly....can't be doing with it personally - but hey, if there are kids about and there is a tower of the stuf....everyone's a winner!

I'm so sad, but I love coming up with party/gathering menus. I'm making some little tiramisus in tiny IKEA glasses for our christening. SO easy and done a day in advance [must get out more emoticon]

iris66 · 03/05/2009 14:34

jw really like both dresses but prefer the second, multi-coloured one as I think it would suit your colouring better - and very "bang on trend" too if may say so

jeanjeannie · 03/05/2009 14:40

Hahaahah - I think BANG on TREND! is the new CAKE!!

Less calorific but general more expensive

iris66 · 03/05/2009 14:40

jj wow! - if anyone has a calling to be an event planner....! I've made a mental note to pick your brains when we do our next non-christening - your ideas are great!!

mrsboogie · 03/05/2009 15:05

jw THEY re both lovely - reckon you should try them on and see which suits best as the fit looks quite different in both.

johnworf · 03/05/2009 16:45

My thoughts exactly ladies...I'm off with DD#1 to John Lewis on Tuesday evening to try them on and see how they look/fit. I know they're not that expensive in the grand scheme of dresses. I think they look as though I'll have spent much more.

JJ many thanks for the suggestions. I already have elderflower cordial in the fridge as I drink it myself but I like the ice cubes with fruit idea. Will def give that a go. And I have big jugs too Oooh matron.

heron22 · 03/05/2009 17:35

jw i much prefer the second one but like mrsb said try them on to see whichone fits and looks better on you.

heron22 · 03/05/2009 17:36

am madly looking all over the house for this folder which has DS2 & DH birthcert! i hope it is not lost. i had photocopies made cos embassy needs certified copies to be sent to them plus the originals. now i dont know where they are! trying not to panic. i hope i have not lost them out of the house!!!

Tee2072 · 03/05/2009 18:13

Afternoon all.

heron I hope you find them! And I hope you realize that a photocopy is not the same as a certified copy. A certified copy has to come from the place where the births were registered!

JW I really like the second one, but agree that you need to try them on!

Have had a fairly busy day of laundry folding and now have lamb joint in the oven. Some day I hope to make a proper lamb leg, but its just too much food for DH and myself! But baby will make 3 in a year or so.

Today I am also lamenting my lack of flexibility as I grunted and groaned my way through a self pedicure. My feet so needed it and until we know more about DH's job, I don't dare pay for one.

OP posts:
FloriaTosca · 03/05/2009 18:14

Heron; I hope they turn up soon
JW Both are lovely but I love the colour of the second one but as everyone has said, only the trying on will tell..enjoy Tuesday night.
JJ What fab party ideas.

Well the birthday party we were expecting to go to tonight has been cancelled and I have nothing in for dinner...no choice for it , we'll just have to go to a restaurant...what a shame

Tee2072 · 03/05/2009 18:33

Try to bear up, floria I know its tough!!

OP posts:
Tabitha8 · 03/05/2009 18:39

JJ you have to tell us all the illegal stuff now that you've mentioned it! Such a tease .

heron22 · 03/05/2009 19:22

arggghhhh, still looking! cant find them anywhere!!!!

giving up for now, taking panadol and going to lie down.

iris66 · 03/05/2009 19:42

Heron - worry yourself to death over their whereabouts all evening and then go to bed - chances are you'll wake up at around 2.30am knowing exactly where they are it happens to me all the time

Tee - am very of your pedicure. My feet are like hooves at the moment (and I used to be so happy with them too one day.... sigh) Giving myself a pedicure has been on my list of things to do for a while now but if I bend over one more time today I think I will actually vomit.

Floria - enjoy your lovely dinner

I'm still trying to decide what to have here and on that note I will retire to eat and sleep. I've felt so tired today I could cry. I'm really missing DH too which isn't helping Been invited to a picnic tomorrow though so at least I'll have some adult company night all
