Hello everyone - yet another thread. I'm expecting a call anyday soon from ITV - as I imagine we'll be prime candidates for taking over the Loose Women slot when they need a break

So, for anyone interested in joining in with us - just jump in and say Hi - we don't bite - unless you're disguised as a chocolate sponge cake

Ladies..................Take it away

FloriaTosca - you're absolutely right. I'm feeling better already!
I don't mind the symptoms although they're not in full swing yet. Maybe that's another good side to being in the fab 40-plus club!

mrsboogie · 01/04/2009 15:28

welcome daisy and congratulations. I was in your shoes this time last year - every scaremongering article in the Daily Mail used to put the fear of God in me. Not helped ny having had a m/c the year previously. I had to stop focusing on the negative as it is utterly pointless especially when you are already pg. One thing that helped me was hearing someone say if you were too old to be pregnant you wouldn't be pregnant! That and knowing that until the pill was invented women used to get pregnant in their forties all the time.

I found, and I think a lot of others do too, that the medical profession won't bat an eyelid or even refer to your age. Not much anyway. They certainly won't come over all shocked that you have pitched up pregnant at such an advanced age

jw that is horrendous re your DH's cc!! at least they figured out what was going on and it wasn't you having to persuade them that you didn't buy a car on it.

Oh was going to suggest swapping tips re the Xenical on Fb if that's ok with you. I was going to ask for a warning of what I might expect if I subject my system to an exceedence! probably to graphic for on here

Off to a party tonight after work with D so won't appear again until much later. will hve to see if I can work my magic on my eyes with make up and transfer p*ssholes in snow into something approaching normality.

johnworf · 01/04/2009 15:32

Afternoon all. Righty ho, CC company say they're going to cover the loss. Jeez, whoever got the details went on a spending spree up and down the country; purchases in London then up to B'ham to buy the car. And they had the audacity to also purchase (on the card) a HPI check!!!!!! Car was almost £5k so I'm guessing it's not a new one. No idea what will happen to the payment for the car. And I don't know what happens with the details given. DH reckons they'll have sold it on straight away but I'm assuming that this will be handed over to the police.

Welcome to the new ladies on the thread. Don't worry about negativity. You just have to develop a thick skin and the ability to swear

K's grizzling to herself in her cot so I'm guessing that's my cue to go and fish her out from underneath a mountain of teddies she keeps putting on her face/head

Laters ladies.

johnworf · 01/04/2009 15:33

haha@pissholes in the snow! Good luck!

jeanjeannie · 01/04/2009 15:55

jw great news that cc will cover loses but OMG at amount they managed to do on it before it was reported Very reassuring eh?!

daisy I'm also a journo - and I reckon if you can cope with that then pregnacy and babies will be plain sailing

mrsB good luck with the transformation - I'm sure you'll look radiant. I've heard pile cream is darn good for an instant lift

Awful about DH's cc, JW, why on earth didn't the bank tell you? I'm never sure they've really got a handle on those things - last time we were on holiday in Cornwall we had to pay for the camping in cash so DH and I both tried to withdraw some from a machine. DH got his card confiscated and a worried phonecall from the bank about 'erratic spending patterns'. Then I had a go and had no problem - on a joint account. Madness. Anyway, they should be able to trace who bought the car, shouldn't they?

Have a great night out mrsB

Welcome Daisy, I'm 42 and having my 3rd (and last) DC. Like most people on this thread, I've had no age-related problems and am aiming for a home birth. As MrsBoogie pointed out, widespread contraception has made us forget that women don't usually have their menopause until around 50!

Tee2072 · 01/04/2009 17:31

Okay gang, letter from AN clinic...apparently I am anaemic. So I need to take Iron. Any old iron or is there special pregnancy iron? Also, I take Pregnacare, which has iron. I still need more?!?!?

duchesse · 01/04/2009 17:36

Ah, Tee, that might well explain why you've been feelig so bad! I always found that the tablets played havoc with one's insides. People on here rave about Spatone or Floradix, which are in a formulation much easier to absorb. Also, there is I believe a lot of iron in black strap molasses if you can stomach the stuff...

ermintrude13 · 01/04/2009 17:37

What's your blood count Tee? I'm waiting for my results and suspect it may be low. Iron supplements: there's the Spa Tone stuff JW and I discussed which is iron-rich water from Snowdonia that you take with fruit juice to aid absorption (DH: 'Right, so you're paying £7-odd for some little sachets of water?' and walked off singing 'the king is in the altogether etc.')and there are other over-the counter tablets, but your doc should advise. Some of them cause constipation more than others.

Anaemia can contribute to tiredness, lethargy, insomnia, all sorts of things, and my sis had a dramatic improvement when she was on iron - went from being a limp rag to a blooming 3rd trimester lady in a matter of days - so I'm kind of hoping that's what I've got.

heron22 · 01/04/2009 17:47

hi all! such a gorgeous day today
i am feeling especially good because i had a lovely haircut, totally new look. easy style to handle myself and i feel like a new woman!

i told my stylist i need a cut that is wash and go cos i have 2 kids! the second one being only 11 weeks old!

daisy when i was preg and feel like everything is just too much, i went for a pregnancy massage. it really helps. come to think of it, i can do with a massage now too!

Tee2072 · 01/04/2009 17:48

ermintrude the letter says 10.6.

It also says to take one tablet a day. I was reading about Spatone, and apparently you take it in fruit juice? How much fruit juice? I am only allowed 100mls of juice a day, due to the diabetes!!

I guess I'd be best off ringing my GP and seeing her next week.

sissy0928 · 01/04/2009 17:54

Welcome Daisy! I'm 39 (40 in May but not ready) and 6 wks pg! I'm new here too, these ladies are wonderful!

Tee, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia back in '01, then told by another dr that it's a "trash-can" diagnosis. Do you have support? I would love to know how you handle it.

Johnworf, my partner's younger brother and my best friend's nephew both have Asperger's...I read the book "Look Me In The Eye", an autobiography, very interesting and helpful in trying to understand some of their strangeness and quirks!

Triggles · 01/04/2009 17:59

I use the Floradix for iron. It's not bad. Didn't want to take the tablets as you can get constipated. The Floradix is liquid and is absorbed better (or so I'm told). Which reminds me, I need to buy another bottle tomorrow or Friday.

We have our scan tomorrow. Hopefully LO will cooperate this time so they can get all the measurements. I told DH I was having them confirm that it's a boy as well, as I thought it wasn't horribly clear when they showed us last week.

Tee2072 · 01/04/2009 18:00

sissy I haven't actually been diagnosed yet. I was under investigation for it when I became pregnant and it became a moot point because I couldn't tell what was a fibro symptom and what was just pregnancy!

I go back to the clinic about 3 months after the baby is born to see what else they can see. I do have early degenerative disease in one knee and one hip for sure, but there isn't much they can do about that. Not a candidate for replacement until I'm about 60!!

My Mum has Fibro, which is why it was thought of when I first starting having problems. She copes by doing lots of physical therapy, and she had both hips replaced in the last 2 years. But she's 69!

johnworf · 01/04/2009 18:21

tee a small amount of orange juice is enough. Say half a glass. It's to aid the digestion of the iron (that's if we're talking Spa Tone here). It's great stuff.

tee 10.6 btw is considered below normal. I think 'normal' Hb starts at around 12. Anaemia can leave you feeling lethargic and breathless though.

sissy yes, Aspergers can throw up very strange quirks indeed! All the ones DSS has are very typical; obsession, time, routine, doesn't understand jokes, non creative etc etc.

heron22 · 01/04/2009 18:24

triggles were you hoping for a girl?

iris66 · 01/04/2009 18:41

Just trying to catch up before putting DC to bed..
Tee - it's the vitamin C that helps the iron absorption. Biocare (and others probably) do ascorbic acid drops and powder you can take if you didn't want the sugar from the juice. Dark green leafy veg have the iron and vit C in (and calcium) so may also help boost your stores. HTH

jeanjeannie · 01/04/2009 18:47

Evening all - quick leap in while the girls are brainwashed by Charlie & Lola!

tee I can vouch for FLoridix tablets - I was low on Iron too...and i craved it....wanted spinach really badly! And as jw says - a small glass of orange juice should do it - as I believe it's the vit c the iron needs for absorbtion...i think!

heron I'm very of you having a nice new haircut - mine's all dry and nasty

Oh gosh - Verity is wailing again - I can only think it must be her teeth...either that or she's about to bring up the moussaka she's just demolished...

ermintrude13 · 01/04/2009 18:48

Tee normal haemoglobin levels for women are between 12-14 but in pregnancy can often reduce owing to the increased (30%!) blood you have flowing around your system. 10.6 is not bad going but you will benefit from an iron boost. As JW says, you only need a little bit of orange juice for Spatone just to mix it with, but I'd talk to the doc anyway just to see what they advise.

JW There was a prog on R4 this afternoon about how we are redefining what is 'normal' in relation to children who would have been seen as 'a bit eccentric' even 10 yrs ago but are now diagnosed as having spectrum disorders. I didn't catch much of it but it will be on Listen Again if you're interested.

Heron I'm saving my next hair cut and colour till a fortnight before my due date!

heron22 · 01/04/2009 18:51

ermin when are you due? sorry if you have posted all this info already, there is so much to read i cant catch up! do you know if it is a boy or girl?

Tabitha8 · 01/04/2009 19:02

Evening all and welcome new ladies.
I'm hoping to have my hair done just after I've given birth. I'm sure it's a service that the NHS offer, isn't it?
As for credit card fraud, in my experience, the companies never report the matter to the police. We just made sure that we didn't pay the bill as we thought it would take years to get the cash back.

ermintrude13 · 01/04/2009 19:03

Due 17th June and don't know what we're having - DS wants a boy, DD wants a girl; we're just holding off the point at which one of them is disappointed

sissy0928 · 01/04/2009 21:04

I'm off to my scan, and was wondering, can I get my hair colored still? I've read yes and no, that maybe highlights would be better...I'm horribly gray too early!!

Tee, then I hope it's the pg and not FM! One dr told me it's just early signs of arthritis...My sis is a RN and she told me it's all in the head for "people like" me, she's not a nice person!

johnworf · 01/04/2009 21:33

sissy I'm also going grey and have my hair coloured on a regular basis. I didn't have it done at all during my pregnancy. They do say that small amounts of the chemicals enter your bloodstream through your scalp. I'm told it's safe but I just didn't want to take any risks as I'd already had a mc.

Not sure what your sister thinks is all in the head. Was she referring to arthritis? I'm sure you get it in your fingers, toes, joints etc I think they are going to tell me I have arthiritis when I go for my test results. My neck is v bad tonight

mrsb hope you've had a great party. Did you and D dance to the birdy song and agadoo (soon to be re-released)?

Triggles · 01/04/2009 21:38

heron we weren't horribly fussed one way or the other - would love a girl, but honestly big concern is health - I just was frustrated as it wasn't a very clear picture, and I'd like to see it clearer if possible, that's all. The tech was saying before "oh yes that's a boy, see?" and it was grainy and such and I was like "um, ok"
