Hello everyone - yet another thread. I'm expecting a call anyday soon from ITV - as I imagine we'll be prime candidates for taking over the Loose Women slot when they need a break

So, for anyone interested in joining in with us - just jump in and say Hi - we don't bite - unless you're disguised as a chocolate sponge cake

Ladies..................Take it away

haha ermntrude I have been having an internal debate about whether I should do naff all on Father's Day but, like jw's DH, he wouldn't give a toss and reckons its all a load of commercialised bollox - which of course it is but that doesn't men you can't buy or make a feckin' small card surely?

On the other hand I think I will go out of my way to make a fuss and buy Fathers Day cards and pressies just to make a point.

When is Father's Day? I must get planning...

jj hopefully you are off being spoiled rotten and not sat on the loo all day...

tee Your friend's labour? I'm sorry but that's just showing off!

ermintrude13 · 22/03/2009 20:46

JW I think that as long as your DH is consistent in his unwillingness to mark occasions, there are many worse faults in a man. I'm sure my DH only plays along to avoid grief, and privately thinks it's a waste of time and money (although this year he spent neither since DC did their own thing, but he did make sure they were doing something). Whenever he doesn't buy flowers/ a thoughtfully chosen CD/ something other than slippers for me I remember one acquaintance whose DH used to buy her gorgeous presents - really lovely clothes, a fab handbag - and turned out to be gay, and a friend's long-term boyfriend who was great at the big gestures and weekends away - with both her and his mistress. We can't have it all...

Doomed is right. Second date, both just arrived in England (her from Spain, him from Brazil) and didn't know anybody, both having a reflex Catholic reaction to the situation with pressure from their parents who didn't want the child born 'in sin'. The marriage never really worked and was over after 2 yrs but the parents lived in the same house to bring up the child, who is now 9, so although he moved out to be with my sis and finalised the divorce then, it wasn't strictly an 'affair' so his ex has directed most of her venom at him rather than my sis (who was by no means the first girlfriend). But it's slowly improving especially (weirdly) now my sis has had a baby, and her little DSD is a lovely girl.

Right, I'm off to bed with a crossword and my beloved giant cushion . Hope everyone sleeps well, sweet dreams.

hedgepig · 22/03/2009 20:49

evening all. What a lovely sunny day we have had here. I did a 10 mile cycle this morning with the girls, I haven't stiffened up yet but my bum is rather sore . As I was cycling along I was thinking of lots of extra things to buy for my bike, so I now have a new retail area to explore

JW good luck for tomorrow I am sending lots of positive vibes. I'm with your DH of the baby on board signs I'm afraid but for a slightly different reason, because people don't take them down when the child isn't in the car it make's them pointless to identify to rescuers there is a child in the car because they are left in all the time if that makes any sense.

I got a nice card from B but no choccie, but I don't need it do I??????

Tee although an hour labour sounds great, fast labours can be very painful. I was speaking to someone last week who was about 2hrs and she tore rather badly because it was so fast.

jeanjeannie · 22/03/2009 21:23

Hello all.....

Weird, weird day. Felt like crap - went to bed - poo'd loads then went out this afternoon to a posh place to look at climbing frames. at the cost! Then.....as a special treat......wait for it.....wait for it..........(worries that they'll hate me cos the treat is SO special) .... DP took me to the NEW Beaconsfield Services at the Junc 2 on the M40 - all of about 3 miles from here. Apparently, it is a vision that John Prescott had...and it's now come to life. So, needless to say that it has a MacDonalds, a KFC AND a Pasty Presto plus a Starbucks. How lucky am I?????? Can't wait to go back next week as there's an M&S opening there plus a casino.....Wooo Hoooo!!

triggles hope all goes well tomorrow and they find no soft markers- do keep us posted. I fully understand your stress x

jw I'm pleased DH is going with you - good to have support. And, tackling things head on - it's the way forward. Funeral tomorrow so shan't be able to check in...but sending you I'm totally Healthy vibes x Good Lord - a shell suit...that's distressing

Hope everyone had a nice(ish) day - despite men being men, blokes being blokey and having to hose down previously buried OHs from under the patio. hedgepig hope your bum doesn't cease up tomorrow. I'm off to bed - as feel a bit dodge and need to set off early tomorrow - so getting head down soon

Sorry to hear that not only my Dh is usless in the mums day dept...though I shouldnt complain because when he finally got up he did cook breakfast and had bought me some choccies and a card from Ds (a major improvement on ziltch last year)...its just that being so wrecked from a rough night and having such a busy day ahead, the pampering of a cup of tea and a lie in would have been so much more appreciated....[ungrateful bovine that I am emoticon]
My Mum said I had had my expectations raised too high because my Dad used to lead by example and always made mothers day very special as a thank you for her giving him his children and all the things she did for us all every day... Shaming Dh by doing a fab first fathersday for him last year obviously didnt sink in...(and I did the full cooked breakfast in bed, card and ceramic mug with Ds's footprints on thing)..oh well, we can but hope my sour face when he got up sticks in his memory for another 12 months.

Off to bed late again...just wanted to say goodluck tomorrow JW and triggles....I'm sure everything will be just fine...and JJ thinking of you too

FloriaTosca · 23/03/2009 10:35

OMG!!!! Have I managed to kill the most prolific thread on MN? 11 hours since I last posted and not a word

johnworf · 23/03/2009 10:38

Morning all. Been and surrendered a vein for testing. Nurse said results back on Wednesday afternoon with me jabbering on saying 'What if it's something bad...I mean really bad. When will I hear?' Think she thought I was a loon. Still, K proved a wonderful distraction for all as the nurse cooed over her So that's that for now. I asked what the blood tests were for and she said full blood count and ESR. I don't know what ESR is (the nurse said it's looking for inflammation) and I'm NOT going to google it! I won't sleep tonight otherwise.

triggles hope all is good for you today dear Will be thinking of you.

JJ the weather has turned and is now officially crap inclement so hope that you're not stuck out in the elements in the rain and the wind too long at your funeral. I'm having visions of your beautiful skirt with a Motherease underneath...tee hee. I tell you what though, your DH really knows how to show you a good time. Surprised he's not under the patio with tabitha's OH.

johnworf · 23/03/2009 10:39

floria I'm here, like the proverbial bad penny

FloriaTosca · 23/03/2009 10:49

Hi JW Thank heavens I haven't chased everyone away with my whinging. ESR is a common blood test ..something to do with red blood cells which stack up faster when there is inflamation in the body..my late grandmother had decreased levels when she had heart failure

Tee2072 · 23/03/2009 11:10

Morning all.

Floria don't worry, you didn't kill the thread! I was ahem busy with DH last night.

I am back at work and wishing I wasn't, as I still don't feel great, especially after a really horrible nights sleep.

JW Try not to think about it. Yeah, like that's gonna happen!

Neddie · 23/03/2009 11:40

Hi all
Been a bit lapse posting on here. Sorry to hear of your posterior problems JJ you do seem to have had some nasty bugs recently.
Good luck with blood tests JW hope all is well with the results.

Good luck with your scan triggles I am about 5/6 weeks behind you and have scans about every 3 weeks at the moment because I am higher risk. Hopefully all will be well-try not to worry too much.

DP was over this weekend and it was lovely. He was a bit shocked at how large I am becoming as I was quite skinny and now I feel like a sausage stuffed to capacity.

I am looking at the icandy pear for the little darlings but I wonder if anyone had tried it out. I like the double car seat fitting which means I can get them in and out of the car without changing them to a pram. (I know lazy).

johnworf · 23/03/2009 13:19

Hi neddie Glad you had a good weekend with DH. Getting large comes with the territory I'm afraid. You're prolly larger than most seeing as you're carrying 2 passengers Never had experience of the icandy I'm afraid so can't offer any valuable advice.

tee you filthy wench! Hope your DH knows that'll have to last him until LO is at least 1 year old

Thanks floria for the info. I'm still not gonna investigate further. Ignorance is bliss. I can cope with laymans terms though

Tee2072 · 23/03/2009 13:31

JW He's well aware that's the last for awhile! Well, maybe once more before LO is born...just so long as he doesn't expect my legs to be shaved again until the kid goes to University!!!

johnworf · 23/03/2009 13:49

Shaved legs as well? Bloody hell tee you've really pushed the boat out! I can't remember when I last did mine. That's the beauty of having a DH who doesn't get conjugals very often.....he's not bothered about any of the little details he's that desperate

mrsb I take it by your absence that you're back in work today? Bah!

mrsboogie · 23/03/2009 14:39

yup at work jw

Glad you got the blood tests done ok and don't have to wait too long for the results.

Take it you got away with the Thronton's choccies? I had some chocolate last night too - first time since the Crimbo Thorntons.

still feel well below par although the little man slept last night from 11pm til 4am and then went back to sleep and had to be hauled out of bed at 9am so we could leave for work

*Tee stop showing the rest of us up you saucy minx!

johnworf · 23/03/2009 15:19

Aye mrsb Got away with the 2 choccies I had. Woot! Btw Thorntons have got a special offer on eggs every day this week. Each day offers a different half price egg.

Mr D's timing is well out of sync! He thinks it's Sunday still. (don't we all just wish?)

And yes, tee is just showing off. Although I've had to pull out all the stops for this iphone and I'm still getting nowhere

mrsboogie · 23/03/2009 15:34

hmmm rice cakes bad Thorntons good - I'm liking the sound of this Xenical more and more - have made an appointment for next week (soonest I cd get) to beg for my own fatty pills off the quacks...

Still no joy jw - Good Lord is the man made of stone??

Tee2072 · 23/03/2009 15:46

Sorry, didn't mean to brag...too much.

Forget Thornton's...I want THIS!!

mrsboogie · 23/03/2009 15:49

"smooth and textured pralines with cinnamon, orange and macadamia, chocolate brownie, fruit and nut, caramel truffles, macadamias and brazils panned in smooth milk chocolate and more"

Triggles · 23/03/2009 16:33

Good grief Tee I can practically feel my blood sugars rise just looking at the picture! But it does look yummy - especially since I've been avoiding chocolate recently.

jw hope you get good results back soon. I hate waiting for results!

We went to our scan today, what measurements they could take were good - but baby was being a bit uncooperative and wouldn't move the way they wanted to get all the measurements, so we have to go back in two weeks to finish it up. So far, no soft markers, but again - they'll double check when we go back. And it's a boy!

ermintrude13 · 23/03/2009 16:43

Hi all

Woke up at 2am and projectile vomited my (v modest) Mother's Day curry - mostly but not all into the bucket. Still, as I pointed out to DH, spending the wee small hours scrubbing repulsive stuff out of carpets is good practice for June. That was 10 days without puking, but it came out at such force I've got those little red dots on my eyelids .

Sorry to put you off your choc fantasies ladies - Tee I reckon you'll have to turn a few very special tricks to get one of those. Might be worth getting a Brazilian as well as shaving legs... .

Triggles congrats on having a little boy in there; and I'm glad all looks good

JW hope they get those test results back soon and that they put your mind at rest.

JJ thinking of you at the funeral and hope your little problem doesn't affect that lovely skirt...

DS has a friend round so must sort out the spag bol. Am still feeling peaky tbh, but have been cheering myself up with donuts, not a good idea.
