Yet ANOTHER thread. Like it says - those of you who've waved bye bye to 39 come and say Hi to us instead.

We think that 40 is the new 20, cyber cake is the new weight-watchers and older mums rock

So, if you fit that description come and play with us. We like cake, gossip an occasional luke warm debate and a good moan! Oh and we're also very friendly and supportive!

OK everyone.....take it away x

BonzoDoodah · 06/03/2009 16:33

What was it about 4 am last night? M woke at 4 shouting "MUMMY" (lovely Hubby went and found the dummy), three of you were up last night ... and two blokes here at work were up in the night with their babies crying at 4am. Was there an unreported "incident" or something? Bizarre.

Glad your Scan went okay today Tee ... excellent news.

Oh and Heh - I'm always late but am sure I'll be on time next time ... I'm an Optomissed [hmmm} {maybe not]

MUM41plus5 · 06/03/2009 19:08

tee really pleased scan went well, hope you didn't see any dangley bits or lack of to give anything away, I know with DT's the later the scans got the harder it was to hide the little hotdogs the sonographer did comment at one scan that she was glad we already knew as if not we definately would have known then

bonzo at your house too last night hey, definately something in the air

Tee2072 · 06/03/2009 19:54

Did everyone go to bed early?

mum41 this was only the heart, didn't even look at anything else, so no chance of giving away the sex!

tootsieb · 06/03/2009 21:30

Thanks for the kind welcomes everyone

Tee, it's great to know there's someone else here from my neck of the woods - what do you think of maternity services in Belfast? I imagine things have changed a lot since I had my youngest almost 14 years ago!

Tee2072 · 06/03/2009 21:40

I think they are great, tootsieb. I am diabetic and am getting excellent care at the high risk clinic at the Royal.

tootsieb · 06/03/2009 23:14

I'd like to deliver at the Royal too Do you know what scans etc are offered as standard? Hubby and I have discussed things and we'd like to have the nuchal translucency done, but we're not sure if we'd have to go private for it.

Tee2072 · 07/03/2009 07:29

Well, I am probably not the best to ask, since I am high risk, but I was not even offered a nuchal translucency. I was offered (and given) a triple test instead. That included a scan, but not a very detailed one, and a blood test.

I do know that you get an overall anomaly scan at 20 weeks. And a booking in dating scan!

The only reason I don't like the Royal is that their private rooms are limited. Ulster apparently has nothing but private rooms with en suites and such.

johnworf · 07/03/2009 07:47

Morning ladies. Had lovely early night last night. K grizzled until 9pm and finally went to sleep, very overtired.

tootsieb not sure of individual hospitals policy on nuchal, but most don't do it. You'll need to ask at your booking in appointment. Mine didn't do it and I was to have a private one but in the end didn't bother

My sister went into labour last night. Coincidentally she was going to be induced the very same night so saved them a job. No idea if she's had him yet. Going to ring my mum in an hour or so and find out what's happened. We already know she's having a boy and she's calling him Finlay. Or as his sister has told everyone at school 'Finlay the fire engine' or 'Fimble'. Hehe. Another nephew to add to the list. Crikey.

Email war broke out at Worf Towers last night. DH mentioned to his brother that SiL was a big mouth who promptly went and told her what he'd said Anyway, irate phone calls ensued. I told DH I was staying well and truley out of sibling wars as it's just not my thing. I get on with my family from a distance and it suits us all round. I can't bear interfering and neither can they but DH's family love poking their noses in, which really pi$$es me off. Anyhoo, it's probably all calmed down for now.

I've seen a lovely bouncy chair in M&P in the sale. I think my sister needs one so what a fab excuse to go in there

jeanjeannie · 07/03/2009 08:48

Morning all. Didn't really manage any communication yesterday what with shopping (food - boo) and looking after hot, crying LO's. Poor Iris - so ill. She's rallied round today

tee so pleased the scan went well. You can lay back and enjoy the home stretch.

jw On lordy - you SIL saga continues. She needs a hobby.........or a quick slap with a wet mackeral.....perhaps both

Well, we're off to the Opera tonight - 'up west' as they say in Eastenders. DP's brother and girlfriend are babysitting and we're escaping about 4pm - so hopefully the girls will feel a lot better by then. Am off to dye my eyebrows!

OP posts:
johnworf · 07/03/2009 09:54

OOOOH JJ I'd be so excited. In fact, I am excited on your behalf! I'm very envious as well. A night out. I can't remember what one of those is

Meh. The SiL is a long runner I feel. I'll just keep a low profile methinks.

Poor Iris. Hope she's feeling better soon. Poor thing

I've just been LOL @ Keith Lemon (aka Leigh Francis) and Paddy McGuinness doing Dirty Dancing on the Beeb news. Very funny.

Nothing as exciting as opera at Worf towers. I'm just waiting for DH to get the pram out and then we're off for a quick promenade before it rains

tee great news on the all clear for the scan. Another hurdle. Tick!

jeanjeannie · 07/03/2009 10:23

jw I am excited but there is SO much to do before DP's brother arrives. But DP has announced that we're going to this mad Eastern European restaurant that we've spied a few times in Kensington - so that'll be like - a date! THen we're going to walk to the Royal Albert Hall....OOOooooo.

Hope you get out before the rain arrives. Oh I love Paddy McGuinness. Is that the Webb Dirty Dancing thing?

mrsboogie · 07/03/2009 12:17

hello all

went for a quick drinkie with workmates after work last night before having the child delivered home unto us so no time to post. Note to self (yet again): dieting and drinking are not a good idea at the same time.

Unbelievably it seems I am coming down with another lurgy already -have swollen glands and sore throat. Can't take any more sick leave.

jj hope you have a fantastic evening - you deserve it!

We have decided to get a proper cot asap - thinking we might get the one tee is getting from Ikea. Did you actually see it up tee? jw you do right to stay out of it - wise woman!

Tee2072 · 07/03/2009 12:32

mrsb yes I did. Very sturdy and well made.

mrsboogie · 07/03/2009 12:35

good - it looks it!

MUM41plus5 · 07/03/2009 12:56

good afternoon

jj have a lovely evening.

ermintrude13 · 07/03/2009 12:57

JJ Carmen is fab, nice that it's a rare mezzo partbecause heading straight into a major soprano can be a bit off-putting for your first time! Have a lovely evening.

JW that was subtle of your DH's bro, wasn't it? . I thought the mad SIL was his sis, didn't realise it was by marriage - makes her sound like an even worse mentalist. You do well to keep out serenely and think about gifties for your new little nephew. Findlay is the spelling I know but I suppose it's easier to say without the D. Finn is a nice shortening anyway.

tootsieb everyone over 35 gets the NT scan at 12 wks here in the midlands - on the basis of which they say whether or not it's worth having the blood test too. But since Tee wasn't offered it it sounds like it's not mandatory in NI (although she was a mere 39 yrs old at the time; wonder if they offer it post-40?)

We're having the usual Sat morning (segueing into afternoon) homework battles with DD, who appears to have forgotten every last thing she ever knew about percentages. DH and I are v impatient with her, because she does know it but is lazy and wants us to lead her through it by the nose. She was told v clearly that she wouldn't go to play at her friend's this afternoon if she didn't finish and looks like I'm going to have to make that phonecall -

johnworf · 07/03/2009 14:46

ARRRggggh ermintrude don't you just hate that? When you issue an ultimatum you think 'ha HA! that'll do the trick'. Then the little buggers go and shrug their shoulders and slump in front of the tv.

Bloody hell JJ Kensington huh? Never been there myself but I guess it'll be swanky. Better put your best leggings on

My SiL is indeed my DH's sister. And it was their brother that has stirred this particular argument up (there are 3 siblings). None of the respective spouses are involved as we've seen it all before.

mrsb how could you!? Going out and enjoying yourself, indeed. There should be a law against it Good idea on the cot front. You may find Lord D starts to sleep better with his own space to sprawl. I know K sprawls all over the place. Sometimes she's at the opposite end of the cot to where she started.

My HCT doesn't offer the nuchal and I haven't heard of any neighbouring ones that do so you're lucky ermintrude

Tee2072 · 07/03/2009 16:22

ermintrude I don't think they offer it here at all. I say this because most of their services are listed on the wall of my clinic and NT isn't even mentioned. Just triple test. So my being a mere babe of 39 probably had nothing to do with it!

Had a good days shopping. Primark has tons of cheap onesies etc, so I stocked up. And got some nicer stuff at Pumpkin Patch.

Tabitha8 · 07/03/2009 16:24

Tee Great news about Baby's scan. It seems as though it's hurdles all the way. We have a growth scan next week. Haven't' asked what they are for on the basis that ignorance is wonderful bliss.
Re nuchals, we had to pay for ours. Seems daft they can't just take the measurement at the scan at 12 weeks.

ermintrude13 · 07/03/2009 16:37

JW it's the first time an ultimatum hasn't worked - she was stubborn as a mule, and not allowed to do anything except sit in front of the homework so did just that ALL MORNING. Then once she applied herself she realised she did know how to do it, by which time she'd missed dancing and play date. Grrrr! Bodes badly for her teenage years; she's obviously getting in some practice.

Ah, now I realise it IS DH's sis who is your bugbear, and the BIL is your DH's brother rather than her husband. Phew. So your DH's own brother stirred the Sh1t with their sister - naughty man. Us 5 sisters don't get on with our older brother so we just have nothing to do with him unless we have to see him at family get-togethers, when we are polite but unaffectionate. It's sad really, but any contact with him ends in arguments so we just don't bother. He was nice till he was 7, then he was a pig to us - probably not all his fault at that age, but he's very unself-aware and bullying even now

I didn't realise so many HAs didn't do the NT for over 35s. Since it's during the standard 12 wk scan that everyone gets and only takes a little more time you'd think it would save them time doing unnecessary bloods later - not to mention providing the earliest possible alert for parents.

Glad you enjoyed splashing some cash, Tee. I'm waiting till we've painted the soon to be erstwhile spare room a jollier colour before I wash and iron these huge bags of 0-3 month clothes I'm collecting. It's be great fun putting them in the drawers and knowing everything's ready

johnworf · 07/03/2009 17:13

ermintrude that's one stubborn child you have there. Is she reaching the 12/13 mark yet? I think that's when the first signs of being awkward kick in. Gah. At least when they're little they pretty much do as they're told.

I agree that it's a shame when you don't get on with one of your own but hey, as they say, you can't choose your family (more is the pity in some cases )

All quiet here. Had a quick outting to the local garden centre but not with the intention of buying anything. I wanted some inspiration for patio stone but didn't find any. Anyway, had a cup of tea with DH but K hated the noise of the hustle and bustle of the tea room so we beat a hasty retreat. Obviously she's not versed in the ways of the (outside) world and so far, led a very sheltered life. Maybe ease her in gently I think. I'll take her out to some shops during the week when it's a bit quieter.

mrsboogie · 07/03/2009 17:49

no nuchals in this area either - it's the triple blood test or go private which I did.
And I've never heard of it being done during the 12 week scan - but not everyone gets a 12 week scan either! I didn't - I had an nhs scan at 8 weeks because a private scan at 7 weeks had shown no heartbeat and there was a worry about ectopic pregnancy (same doctor). So no 12 week scan for me. You must live within the catchment of a particularly progressive HCT ermintrude

peachyfox · 07/03/2009 18:42

Hello can I come in?

I'm 41 and 15+3 with my first baby (it took me that long to negotiate the commitment phobes and barren patches). I'm a bit wobbly today because, and I know this is a bit of an old chestnut, I don't feel pregnant although I have had some nice little twinges. I'm very paranoid because we had IVF and after fighting through the stats (10% chance of conceiving, 40% chance of miscarrying, etc.) I'm feeling a bit weak at the knees (and not the nice way!)

Is/has anyone else been 15 weeks and felt normal ?

Looking forward to getting to know you all,

Px

MUM41plus5 · 07/03/2009 19:21

evening

We went private for our IVF treatment (because by the time we would have gotten to the top of the waiting list I would have been over 40) so assumed after they found only 1 embryo had implanted that we would also have to go private for the nuchal scan as in our area it is the triple blood test that is provided bearing in mind we had 2 scans prior to the nuchal scan we were then shocked to find during the nuchal scan that 2 had actually implanted and that we could have had the nuchal scan no charge as the triple blood test does not provide a result with twins but it would have to have been at a different hospital so we still had to pay but we were more than happy to have to pay any fee after walking away with the results very good for both babies

MUM41plus5 · 07/03/2009 19:26

Hello peachyfox congratulations
pretty much the same chances they gave us, I know how you must be feeling, we just felt it was a miracle, and it is!
