Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of really premature rutured membranes ?

My waters went on monday as a result of an infection i picked up having an emergency stitch put in last week.

Babys fine and the stitch is still holding, i've not gone in to labour but obviously this is a grim situation and we're likely to lose our baby boy.

I'm on some wacking great antibiotics which are making me feel hideous but i have been discharged from hospital, there is nothing mroe they can do there apparently so i am home on bedrest praying babys lungs develop and he stays put for a few more weeks to at least give him a chance.

Does anyone know anyne who has been though this ?

Not to well really. There are no pools of fluid around the baby atall which isnt good. I knew i'd lost a lot but didnt expect there to to nothing left atall.

Babys ok, his movements have slowed right down though because of lack of space and hes breech with no room to move too... his estimated weight is 1lb5oz which is ok for his gestation but they found it hard to get the measurements because of the lack of fluid so we have to hope that that is accurate.

I had a good cry today for the first time. Ive been running completly on auto pilot and all the emotion came out in the waiting room at the hospital.. I was one of those women sobbing while all the other women looked on obviously thinking 'thank fuck thats her and not me' .

Anyway, had a good chat with my consultant who is lovely and he managed to put a bit of positivity back in my mind. He said baby could be fine but there is no way of them knowing untill he's born. We also talked about termination but i dont feel that that is really an option to us if he could be ok. The worst part of it is the not knowing, if we knew we'd have options but as it stands we're in limbo.
He did say that baby is in the right place now to give him the best chance, even with no fluid and no space.. I'd been wondering if he'd be better out but cons asured me that my crappy womb is doing a better job than an incubator even at the moment. I just feel so useless.

We spoke about the section too and he said if i go before 28 weeks i'll have a vaginal breech birth and after then i'll have a normal section. He said the classic section would be to much and what i think he meant was that it'd be to much for me to go though for a baby thats unlikely to survive for long.

fucking horrid situation, i am so fucked off with being me.

Oh Worsel I am so sorry that the news from the scan wasn't great . You've been through more than your fair share, and lesser women would have cracked before now! It does sound like you have a great consultant though, and it's good that he is looking at the positives. There are so many inspiring stories on here about babies doing well when born after PROM, and as you say your baby is in the best place for now. Really thinking of you xxx

my cousin's wife had her DD at 24 ish weeks. she ws in hospital a long time, and was on oxygen for months after the birth. she is a fine and strapping almost 4 year old now. she has suffered no apparent ill effects from being born so early, she can see, hear, walk, talk and is perfectly ok. i hope that gives you some more positivity to hold on to

i can't imagine what you are going through, and wish you and your baby all the best, and every extra day he is in utero is a good thing

just found this thread worzsel and wanted to send you lots of hugs. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. Try and keep your spirits up and keep talking to your baby and tell him how you know he is doing a good job of staying where he needs to be. Im sure the red wine and chocolate will help to relax you. Its good that you managed to have a good cry and chat today at the hospital it will do no good to keep things bottled up and worry yourself stupid.

Hugs to you Worzsel. It's so hard to be in this situation.

They also told me the baby doesn't need hardly any fluid to be happy and keep growing. I had virtually none. They said the only time the baby would be better off outside is after 36 weeks so he really is in the best possible place.

Every single day more counts, it really does.

Worzsel - so sorry it wasn't good news at your scan, but at least baby is still ok and definitely in the best place. I'm sure every day counts and will make him stronger.

I also know a few 24 weekers who are now happy and healthy children and teenagers - and 1lb 5oz sounds like a good weight for your baby's age.

Good luck

Sorry to read this WM

When my DD was in NICU there was a 24 weeker in the next incubator, she was 800g, very poorly and it was looking unlikely she would survive. However, 9 long months later she has been home for about 2 months and in recent weeks has finally stopped needing oxygen.

There is hope.

Have you read the thread by johnworf on here? Here if you haven't seen it.

I really hope this is what turns out to be the case for you. Positive thoughts and prayers coming from thsi direction
