Hell, I've just found out I'm expecting No. 3 mid November, and am very excited. A bit scared too - I can't remember a thing! How can I possibly have done this twice already??? Hope more of you can join me soon!

grommit · 30/07/2003 15:57

Im am 22 wks and must admit to getting a wee bit excited now. Found out at the 20 wk scan that I am expecting a ds which is good as I have a dd already. Unfortunately this has delighted MIL who is desperate for another just like 'my boy' to carry on the family name! I am rather huge but feeling healthy and not worrying too much about my low lying placenta!

tinyfeet · 30/07/2003 16:04

Good to hear it, Grommit. I'm a wee bit excited too even though we believe that we are having another girl. Oh well, DD and she will be good friends, I hope. At least I also know what to expect. Poor DH, surrounded by girls.
Anyway, I'm at 18 weeks and am very visible. I wish I had a tiny bump like you all at 20-22 weeks!

elliott · 30/07/2003 16:46

tinyfeet, no 'tiny bump' here, I'm afraid!!
I have to say I suspect this one is another boy and I am very excited at the prospect of two little boys!!
So grommit is your edd close to mine then - 3 Dec?

Rachael17 · 30/07/2003 19:18

lots of new boys then im expecting a ds too jus tryin to think of sum names now
so far have
joshua
jake
matthew
ethan
ewan
but huge prob with the surname as me and my partner split so my family think it shud have my surname and him and his family want theirs
and double barreling sounds stupid

WideWebWitch · 30/07/2003 21:29

Rachael17, I'd go with your surname, definitely. Don't let them bully you. Like your names too. Glad everyone else on this thread is doing well and also glad to hear that we're all getting big now. I'm so happy to be feeling lots of kicks a day, it is beginning to get exciting and to feel like I'm getting to know her IYKWIM.

sis · 31/07/2003 14:32

Rachel17, you didn't say which surname you wanted to give. You could do what we did, try out both surnames with the first name once we had chosen the first name and go with the surname that you think sounds best with the first name.

grommit · 31/07/2003 15:10

Elliott - I am due a day after you - 4th Dec! Isn't it nice not to be going through this alone!

eefs · 31/07/2003 16:08

Rachael, i'd give the baby your surname. DS is double barrelled with two surnames that don't really go. Poor child has a total of 17 letters in his surname now but it was the only option for us. I wanted my name and obviiously DP wanted his. I reasoned that I'll be the one filling in forms/dropping off at school etc so why should my son have a dufferent surname to me. I reckon DS can choose the surname he wants when he's older.

susanmt · 01/08/2003 23:44

Not been around much but quick update as I'm going on my holidays tomorrow (3 weeks in Canada - pretty excited!)
My kidneys have been giving me a really hard time, and the urologist has recommended I have a stent (little tube) put in from my kidney to my bladder to allow them to pass without pain. This means a general anaesthetic and 2 night in hospital in Inverness, miles from my family. But I think in the end it is a ggod idea as I am really struggling with the pain. It's to go in on 11th September.
But I had a scan on Monday and the babe looks fab, waving and kicking and rolling around, and all its important bits seem to be there (couldn't see any gender specific 'bits' though!) and it is growing well which I was worried about as I havent felt much movement.
I had an awful couple of weeks when I was really struggling to get my head round it again, but I think I'm feeling more positive now. Dh has been referred for his vasectomy which makes me feel a lot better - at least this will never happen again (we hope!!).
Looking forward to my hols and a bit of a rest. Hope you are all OK. ((hugs)) to Rhubarb - I had pre natal depression with my ds and am still on the tablets now! Take care.

WideWebWitch · 02/08/2003 10:08

susanmt, I was wondering how you are, good to hear from you and not so good that you've been feeling awful. I hope the operation makes a difference and you have a lovely holiday.

grommit · 04/08/2003 18:30

just thought I'd let y'all know that there are still great bargains to be had at the Next Sale in maternity werar - just bought trousers and 4 tops for £35....

sylvester · 05/08/2003 13:18

Hi all. Hope you don't mind me adding my name to this thread. I'm due in December, Xmas Day! (Couldn't have planned it better!). Feeling very well after the horrendous morning, noon and night sickness! But a little bit anxious at the moment as waiting for another scan on Thursday following my 19 wk scan where a choroid plexus cyst was picked up which can sometimes be a soft marker for genetic conditions. (You may have seen my message on another thread). However, feeling more positive after getting some reassuring messages and fingers crossed all will be well. This is my first pregnancy. I'm really excited and it's great to find such a great website like this where you can exchange help and advice with others.

tinyfeet · 05/08/2003 14:19

Welcome Sylvester! I'm also due on Christmas. This is my second, and we believe that it is a girl from my scan a few weeks ago.

StripyMouse · 07/08/2003 10:21

hi Sylvester, Christmas day! Wow - not sure if that sounds like a brilliant idea or really awful!! Whenever your baby arrives, though, the calender will be the last thing you are thinking about so I guess it doesn?t matter at all! Glad to hear you are feeling better now - morning, noon and night sickness is no fun.

I am now about 26 weeks (i think - rubbish on dates) and have just noticed one of my boobs is leaking milk like creamy fluid - already?!! has anyone else had/having this? Can?t totally remember, but don?t think this happened so early on last time.

Also I am having terrible nightmares at the moment about early births, all leaving me waking up in a cold sweat. Last night I dreamt the baby literally stretched its legs out and pushed and pushed until (rather reminiscent of Alien) it literally erupted out of my stomach! The dream then became chaotic with Dh and I desperately trying to get to a hospital with this tiny baby....Another one that takes similar form is where I give birth on the toilet.....very disturbing. I think I must be suffereing sunstroke.

elliott · 07/08/2003 10:27

stripeymouse, I'm 23 weeks and have been able to express a little clear fluid for many weeks, and just recently the fluid has been creamy. I think this is a lot earlier than last time (though it may not have occurred to me to check so early...sorry to be a bit gross, I'm just one of those people who likes to be familiar with what their bodies are doing...) I never leaked last time or this (so far) though, but I don't think what you're experiencing sounds unusual.
the dreams are weird though....I'm certainly getting lots of strange birth/bfeeding ones too! Must be the hormones and being able to feel the movement during the night...

eefs · 07/08/2003 11:45

Stripymouse - the esp. vivid dreams are one symptom of being over tired. Are you sleeping well lately? If possible a mid afternoon nap would help (I wish, easier said than done). I'm generally not sleeping as soundly as I usually do. It's also a sign of general anxiety over the birth being expressed through your dreams. Nothing to worry about, I'm getting them sometimes too, but not if I'm rested. They are definitely food for thought though.
I'm also able to express a little, and definitely don't remember this happening so early the last time. Mayby our bodies are a little more used to the process now.
Congrats and welcome Slyvester, you certainly won't have trouble remembering your due date!
Mine keeps being changed depending on the midwife/doctor looking at my notes at the time. Very fustrating.
I'm planning a week long trip to the far east in a months time and have just realised that there may be an issue over travelling long distance while so far pregnant! Hopefully it all turns out ok and I can manage to fit in a bit of bargain hunting while I'm there.
There seems to be a lot of people on this thread who haven't posted in a long time - hope you guys are doing ok? I made a list of names but think I could insult people then if I forgot to mention them so you know who you are!
With regard to finances - Have you all worked out

  1. how long you are going to be off work (if working) and
  2. how you are going to pay for it? I'm just curious - we are in the predicament of having two healthy wages coming into the house but throught bad management of loans/credit cards etc we have very little disposable cash so seem to end up in more debt each month. It's a nasty trap and I think a complete overhaul is required.
sprout · 07/08/2003 13:41

eefs, just realised I'm one of the people who haven't posted for ages! Always check up the thread when I log on, but haven't had much to say recently.
Pg progressing fine - must be 26 wks now. Baby is apparently going to be dd2 (if you can believe the scans, but the dr seemed convinced), and is currently practising to be a footballer . Work, especially combined with the heat and resulting lack of sleep, has been tough this time round so I'm really looking forward to the next 2 weeks when we will be on holiday in the UK. Warning: shops, here I come!

You asked about work. I'm working full time til the end of September, then 2 weeks of mornings only, then I stop mid-October (due date 11th Nov). I'll get half pay for October, but am then off work on full pay until the end of March - partly because I've managed to save some leave from this year. I'd love to go back to work part time (75%?), but that will depend on finances as dh is a SAHD, so it's a bit of a luxury even thinking of it. I guess, not being in the UK, that I'm in quite a privileged position anyway.

Good luck to all of you others on this thread - and I'll catch up with things when I'm back.

StripyMouse · 08/08/2003 08:54

Glad to hear that you are ok sprout, eefs and others.

Nice to hear that I am not the only one able to express a bit - feels so strange and brought back all my old stresses about breastfeeding last time Maybe this (along with a seriously active kicking babe) is affecting my dreams. Good idea about the afternoon naps - will give it a go today, eefs. Yesterday I was so tired that I sort of dozed on and off (with bad headache) from about 6pm to 5ish this morning. Can?t say it was a lovely long sleep though - lots of waking up and more weird dreaming. I must establish a better sleep routine as these are the sort of dreams that linger on into wakefulness and haunt you all day. Oh well. Roll on November....

Rhubarb · 13/08/2003 13:21

How is everyone? The baby is kicking away happily inside me, quite uncomfy really.
Am starting to feel a bit p*ed off, wishing it was all over. Got a dull, blank feeling too. But that's about what I expect to happen with me.

Hope everyone else is doing ok. Susanmt, how are you finding it?

elliott · 13/08/2003 13:24

Oh Rhubarb, it doesn't seem fair that you're not able to enjoy it at all...
I am doing well (24 weeks). I've got used to having a proper bump now and just trying to enjoy it while its still not sooo big and uncomfortable! My bad back of a few weeks back has fortunatly got lots better. Lots of kicks as well. I like this bit

monkey · 13/08/2003 16:59

hi everyone - just back from my 'break' in the Uk. was hoping it would be much cooler, to get a break from the heat, but then you go and get a heat wave! Still, it was better than here - 42 degrees today & I am starting to get fed up with it.

anyway, had another doc visit & all well, I think. ,I did ask him to make appt for me at hospital to discuss delivery, but while he was happy to do so, he did say that they very very pro-natural birth, and very anti c-sections, so wouldn't get a balanced conversation, so now I'm wondering if there is anyone I can have this converstion with, just to help me go through all the pros & cons & make a decision. I realise only I can make the decision, but need help & now don't know where to get it.

Had heartburn a couple of times, and sciatica getting really bad, but apart from that, and the heat, feeling really well - this pg is definitely going easier than last one.

Haven't had a chance to catch up on what you've all been up to, but hope it's generally all good.

OP posts:
mears · 13/08/2003 17:07

Monkey - you are entitled to a balanced discussion. I think it was wrong of your doctor to say you won't get that. Discussion has to take place around personal experiences and history etc. I personally am very pro natural birth but I can understand why, for some women, that is not an option. I do think though, that the risks of caesarean section need to be made explicit. It is rare for the risks of natural birth to be greater. The problem is that natural birth may be a greater psychological risk and how do you measure that. In my mind, women need to feel safe with the care they receive.

Grommit · 13/08/2003 17:42

I just saw my consultant this afternoon who discussed all the options with me and was very helpful and reassuring (I expected him to be very anti-c/sec but he was not). I was induced last time and it was all very unpleasant and the birth was difficult so it was good to know there are other options. I plan to have a natural birth if possible but if I go over 10 days late and no sign of labour I may opt for a C-sec. I have another appt at 38 weeks to discuss again. Of course as my placenta is low I may not have the choice!
Monkey - it is a shame you were not given unbiased advice - ask to see a consultant at the hospital or discuss with your midwife - they are usually much more undertanding than GPs!

monkey · 14/08/2003 11:59

My doc himself has been very good, understanding & unbiased. He's given me pretty much all the info I need (except a clearish idea of the likelyhood of my 3rd deg. tear re-tearing, or how likely it is that it'll hold together or only tear a bit. He's just vague - it might, it might not, probably won't be as bad. Maybe that's the best anyone can tell me).

But he won't actually be there for the delivery, sort of my fault really, so he had suggested I speak to the hospital where I've chosen to go, but then there's no way of knowing who'll be on duty when I give birth.

I'm really happy with my doc, he's not a gp btw, but a 'woman's doctor and birth help' is how it's literally translated, he would normally deliver the women who see him for ante natal care, but I guess I messed up, not really au fait with the system, so I don't have a midwife, so I'm not sure where to go. He himself was unbiased I think, but as he won't be doing the delivery said the people to speak to were those at hospital, but then told me that in his opinion, they would not be unbiased, but heavily weighted towards a natural birth. I am not nec. against this, this is what I desperately wanted for both ds1 & ds2, but now I just don't know & don't really know where I can have this discussion. Mears I know I've already gone on at length, but if all else fails, could I bend your ear? Sorry to ask, I know you're busy with your own women, job & assignments.

mumbojumbo · 14/08/2003 12:20

Hi all, I'm new so I hope you don't mind me joining in. I am 28 weeks with my 2nd pregnancy, I already have a ds who is 19 months old. I've just got back from the hospital where I had an anti-D injection (in my bum!) and I have to have another one at 34 weeks . This is because I'm a rhesus negative blood group.

I have been suffering with the heat big time, so glad its cooled down a bit now.

I had SPD when expecting number 1 son and have all the signs that its back for the rest of this pregnancy. I'm waiting for an appointment for some physio. Last time I had to wear a support belt and was on crutches for 6 weeks. In addition, I've got carpal tunnel in both wrists - OMG I'm falling apart!!!!
